Great zoo! Quiet in the winter but there's still plenty to see. It's a great place to safely let kids run ahead and experience a bit of autonomy when it's not busy.
Best place to take the kids. Liked it so much that I became a member.
Love revisiting the zoo with my family lots of walking great time
Same as all the other zoo's.... nothing really made it different then any other zoo. I was alittle disappointed after watching your show for a year or more.
I was impressed with how large this zoo is! The large animals are in very large enclosures. There is a huge variety of animals. The monorail tour was very informative!
This is the best place to spend a day outdoors with your family
Everyone should go at least 1 time! It's really easy with the subway.
Organized great! Wonderful exhibits designed well. Tons of different species!
The lanterns made it worth it. If they had not been there it would have been way overpriced for some lights on trees in a small part of the zoo.
Great experience for animal lovers. This place clearly has conservation as its number one priority and understands the importance of getting the public educated and involved in the conservation process. Great educational information available at all exhibits and a superlative staff of handlers on hand who are genuinely excited to share their knowledge with the public. LOVED the Wild Asia Monorail - a great way to take a quick tour and see a whole section of the park while comfortably seated on a hot day! The only detractors of the experience were minor maintenance issues - signage that is clearly being destroyed by time and weather, bathrooms that arent functioning, or sections of walkway that are crumbling away. Overall an outstanding experience and one for which you should budget an entire day.
I have not gone to the Bronx zoo in 20 years so I don't know how it is
Always a joy to visit the Bronx Zoo. I was afraid to be honest due to Covid 19 but felt better when I saw the precautions and sanitizing happening on a regular basis. Reservations needed so book in advance.
Beautiful zoo in the town. I think the zoo needs more collection of animal.
It was great for the kids. There's a lot of animals to see and areas to explore. Only down side is that we were really tired at the end
I am not approving Zoo concept.
Animal should live in nature!
I ve been coming here my whole life and it completely transports me back to my childhood when I walk in. The animals are so cared for and the people who work here are great. I will be back with my family every year.
Great place - I have had a membership there for years! Kids love it every time. Great activities for the kids, and a nice, park-like atmosphere. Yes, it can be crowded during holidays.... but if you go early you can avoid that.
Best zoo top rated once inside you will see what a real zoo should look like
Awesome, one of the top zoos we've vited ,habitats were top notch.
I'm a frequent visitor and I'd recommend visiting the Bronx Zoo to everyone no matter the age or the time of year. Plenty to see and do and right next door to the zoo is the Botanical Gardens which is also an excellent visiting attraction! !!
Loved it so much fun more then I can handle it is better with kids
It was a great experience and it is best to get there early so you can see all the animals.
This zoo was not worth the money my children did not like it at all more than half the animals were not out and almost all the concessions were closed the Columbus zoo and Cincinnati zoo and Louisville zoo were all better jack hannah takes care of his zoos way better wouldn't recommend anyone to go here by far the worst zoo I had ever been too
Love the Bronx zoo especially for the holidays.....
Wonderful and beautiful place. I love this place. Good sitting arrangements and clean atmosphere.
Beautiful place, I love the animals, a great place for the family.
Huge place with lot of things to explore. Its hard to see the entire place in a single visit. IMO regular tickets are over priced..however the free admission Wednesdays are a good deal.. all special exhibits are a must at least once except the butterfly garden..they don't have a lot of them flying around..most of them sit on the plants and it's very hard to differentiate and identify them.. overall it's a good day(s) trip.
The bronx zoo is kool to go to and its a all day event
I am not a fan of zoo's, captivity is captivity. But my son loves the Dinosaur Safari... So here we are.
I went to the Bronx Zoo on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. It's not like I remembered it. I hadn't been there in about 25 years and my parents used to take us when were were kids and that's when only entrance was on Crotona Avenue. Anyway, the exhibits were not all that exciting. A lot of them were closed. I had hoped to see the lion exhibit, but was told on entrance that it was not open. Neither was the Gorilla House. The prices were very high and I found that I had to pay to get into certain exhibits. I had a soda, fries and a hamburger for lunch - $15.00. A lot of the exhibits were not worth the price of the admission. Call me old-fashioned, but when I was a kid and a young adult - you paid the price of admission and you could see any exhibit you wished, without having to dip into your pocketbook each time. Sorry, but I doubt I would go back. There are a lot of ways I can think of to spend my money, and it's definitely not throwing it away to view animals. The Bronx Zoo still has a lot of growing up to do.
Wonderful visit as usual except for when we found out that they no longer offer kids meals anywhere in the zoo. Feeding the kids is now much more expensive and wasteful since they don't finish an adult serving.
Going back this week. Then off to City Island for dinner .
Best place on earth. If your coming to NYC, your coming to The Bronx. Wednesdays are free for all ages!
Still a good place to visit jut dress appropriately because you will be walking a lot.
Great place to be with family plus they have yearly membership benefits many things to do at this beautiful Zoo highly recommended place to visit
So I have been living in NYC for 15 years, work in the Bronx (off the 44 line which comes straight here) have friends who have season passes to NYC zoos and am finally coming here. Though I must say I am glad I waited until my daughter got older (she is 8, that will come into play for me).
But finally decided to come here on a Friday morning with my daughter to check out the zoo. And I have to say it is way better than I thought it would be, and I typically find zoos boring. First the landscaping is great with lots of trees to engulf your stay you easily forget you are in the Bronx. I opted to get the total pass, which I am glad I did. As many others have said come prepared to walk and walk alot. We came at 10 when it opened left at 3:30, saw 90-95%of the exhibits and ended up walking 13000+ steps. The exhibits are clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and even though we came on a Friday during the summer (prime camp time) it never felt overly crowded. I would imagine on the free day it would be, but today was perfect.
As some have said bring your own food, though with me and my daughter I opted to just buy there and not lug around food. But if you have a lot of people it can get very pricey.
And with the total experience, I would really only get for kids like 4+ IMO. It is already so much to see without that, so to add that much more walking with a toddler would be torture to me. But again just my 2cents.
Hands down the best zoo in NYC and one of the best I have been to! Just this zoo alone may make the yearly pass worth it.
Huge variety of animals, something for everyone in the family!! Had a great time and pricing was very reasonable.
Great experience at the zoo 7/22/18 Pregones Theater presented Bodoma Garifuna Cultural Band and Celebrated Central America. Awesome performance from Bodoma & The Marimba group. Thanks for a great cultural afternoon.
I was really excited to visit the Bronx Zoo since it is so famous. However, when I got there I was a little disappointed. All the animals were sleeping and never woke up. It was a bit of a bore. The Central Park Zoo, though tiny, is much more exciting. The Bronx Zoo is also far away, more than an hour commute on the train. In the winter, they have a light show all through the park. It s still not enticing enough to get me to go back.
its a great place to see animals family friendly place
Love the Bronx Zoo as much as I did when I was a kid especially the Congo!
Zoo does a great job..everything went well...to much to enjoy in one day...back again for sure..nuff said..
Beautiful place my son and I had a wonderful time. Just wear comfortable sneakers on your trip there.
Fun time seeing all the animals. Worth the time to go
The light festival is so boring. Nothing special and it s waste of money. We were so disappointed!
I have very fond memories of my grandfather taking me to this zoo some 50 years ago. I recently spent a day with my wife and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. We both felt, however, that many of the animals did require larger accommodations. We strongly feel that one day a week should be for adults only. We would gladly pay twice the price of admission to see the zoo without the screaming kids. Kids are great but they really diminish the beauty and peace of the natural environment!!!
Great experience. Fun activities for kids, free on Wednesdays so very full but definitely worth it. The map can get confusing and the lines are long for certain attractions but overall a great experience.
I have been to almost all the zoos in the tri state area and I have to say the bronx zoo is number 3 (white post farms on Long Island is #1, Turtle back in New Jersey #2). Bronx zoo is humongous and spread out. Lots of animals and the petting zoo is decent (don't forget to bring change or dollar bills to purchase animal food to feed the goats, alpacas and donkeys). A great family day can be held by all.
Get there early lots to see be prepared to get your steps in
I grew up going to this Zoo! I have bought all my children. And for those that feel like they are too high priced... go on a Wednesday, it s free and just give them a donation. What other zoo has free admission for all one day per week?
If you ask nice they will let you pet the grizzly bears.
probably safest place at Bronx ;) A must go zoo with it's variety of animals. Just keep in mind there's a ton of walking which isn't bad but just a consideration for anticipating how much time you'll need.
The zoo was easy access with the BxM11. It was crowded, as expected for Good Friday. I had a fun day and saw a huge variety of animals, which was great. I was especially impressed with the house of birds building though unfortunately the first floor was closed today.
I'm knocking stars for a few reasons. (1) I think beyond helping preserve animals, zoos have a responsibility to teach. This was a missed opportunity multiple times at the zoo. Panels were outdated and faded. Animals in exhibits were often just not labelled. Information that was provided was too basic. The new dinosaur experience opened today and there was "raptorman" a paleontologist entertaining the crowd. He was unable to factually a simple question about dinosaurs. (2) The dinosaur experience was a waste. Half the animatronics didn't work properly and again the tour guide didn't provide any information beyond what was in the little printed guide. The younger kids liked seeing the dinosaurs, but not a high quality experience overall. Not to mention we waited in line 90 minutes for a <15minute tour.
(3) I expect park food to be over priced, but the variety was dreadful. (4) the gorillas just seemed really depressed.
My daughter was excited but we didnt get to see most of the animal as there were not at the locations listed on the map.
Seen all the animals and exhibits...best Zoo in the Northeast
I've been going to the bronx zoo since I was a little kid. Still just as amazing and they even have the map accessible through an app.
I went with some family members that do not live in NYC and we went in and spent an arm and a leg for tickets and food.
We searched and searched for animals and only found a few.
WHERE ARE THE ANIMALS?
This place is for the birds...and lions and tigers and bears...oh my! Had a great time. Some of the animals need to have better viewing angles (rhinos) but overall it was great to see the various animals. Park and facilities were clean. Some bathrooms could use a refurbishment.
There's so much to see and do. Worth getting the membership
It was great but we had to pay for everything that was good
Love the Bronx Zoo I am a member and we visit often.
Giraffe exhibit seemed small and cruel for the animals themselves. I hope these animals also have an outside surroundings to roam and not just the small room several of them are stuffed in.
What a great time our family had here. We went on a colder day in the morning of a monday. There was no one here. It felt good to be able to roam freely without a crowd. The prices are slightly expensive. They did not have all the attractions to do this day. Some of the animals were not out due to winter weather. There is so much to see here. The animals are a wonder to see. Every kid should visit this amazing place.
The animals are in a very bad state, it is horrible to see a polar bear in a city that can reach high temperatures in summer.
Holiday lights with the family at the Bronx Zoo was amazing!
During the warmer months, definitely come and see. Around the time of summer, it's gonna be so crowded on Wednesdays ( free admission day) . We took the 5 train then 2 train . Then walked a little while to get there. Not very far from the entrance. If you are a large group and has kids, probably get someone to drive.
The bronx zoo is a great place to stroll and view animals you wouldnt be able to see anywhere else. There are many animals who are going extinct and something must be done. Did you know the only predator of the gorilla is us (people)?
I had a great time and although I've visited before i learned many new things and saw a new part of the zoo i never seen before. I recommend going into the gorilla congo, the bird house, see the amazing giraffes and grab a nice cold drink or icecream before leaving.
This pristine review comes with a caveat:
Be sure to visit after May 1st, lest you miss out on some of the more grandiose of spectacles.
Otherwise, it is a beautiful escape from the bustling metropolis , full of wonders to behold.
One of the best zoos I've been to. Great place for a family trip. Kids will love it.
The best 2nd to none. You will not be disappointed. The land that is devoted to the animals is amazing. I love this place. I have no problem flying to the Bronx just to visit the zoo.
The Bronx Zoo is just as good as everyone says it is. It has so many animals that are not easy to see on the East Coast, and it is huge. There are so many exhibits and so many unique animals that I've never seen before like dholes, Nubian ibex, Malayan tapir, and many birds. I am not a big fan that some exhibits cost money to go into but if you pay ahead of time to go wherever you want or if you are a member, you can go into those exhibits.
I forgot how huge this place was. Definitely would be better during better weather. But it was cool being there for Boo at the Zoo. We'll be back next year.
Was a great day at the Bronx Zoo .
The place is very organized. All the animals are very well taken of.
I recommend everyone go there with friends and family.
Wednesday its free. They ask for a donation but its optional.
Me and my kiddos love it here, especially free Wednesdays
