I work at the Brian Center, and I chose to work with our therapists when I had some back pain. I was really impressed with the knowledge of the therapist I worked with, and my back pain has become much more manageable. Working with our therapists as a patient made me feel much more comfortable with recommending them to others.

Good rehab center, but nurse or CNA response to requests for aid take far to long, they show up to turn off the call light but leave without assisting. The promise to return often takes 45-90 minutes arrive or in one case 5 hours after 3 calls.
Nursing hygene proceedures of IV PICC lines is inadequate and in one case required me to go to ER following day.

Mom checked in today. She is a fall risk and they gave her a bed without rails. When I asked about rails from the staff, staff said my Mom did not ask for rails. My Mom said she asked for them and they said it was a lot of paperwork for rails. I arrived too late to have them installed because maintenance was gone. I can only hope this is not a foreshadow of future care. She still does not have rails!
In addition her call button was 6 feet away when she was admitted and took over 30 minutes for it to be brought within her reach.
For dinner she was given Roberts food. We don t know who Robert is. Good thing she doesn t have a special diet!

My 78 year old mother spent close to 4 weeks at Brian Center Southpoint. You hear so many horror stories about facilities but I could not believe how incredibly kind and attentive the staff, nurses,CNAs, and therapist are in this facility. Mom had been to 2 other facilities in the past and this one is the Best! She was very weak when she arrived and now she is back at home living on her own. The food is pretty good. They have their own private rooms and the nurses and cnas are good at responding when the light goes on. It is amazing how well elderly people respond to healing and getting stronger if they are cared for like their own, Highly recommend BRian Center Southpoint as the place to meet all your post hospital needs.

The team of physical and occupational therapists a...

The team of physical and occupational therapists at the Brian Center at Southpoint is exceptional. My husband worked with three therapists in particular -- Rachel Sammons, Trey Washington, and Tom Cogdell -- although there were others he saw for a short time, and we both managed to observe the rest of the team at work. All of them impressed us with their expertise, their knowledge, and their loving care. With their understanding of the body and how it works, they were constantly judging how far to push the patient, given his physical needs as well as his current goals. This required of the therapists a familiarity with each patient as well as the ability to extrapolate from their vast learning the information necessary to design a specific program for each one.

We observed time and again many of the patients, inspired by and responding to his therapist by doing the best job he could do. We saw -- and benefited from -- the real value of the teamwork between the patient and the therapist.

This is a terrible place to have your love ones go to. They are under staffed and don t know how to treat their employees well the DON Director of nursing anyway. I don t recommend this place for employment or any other services the only good part about this place is the PT and the OT. Other than that shut this place down and start over with a whole new team. They have their nursing assistants over worked. There is sometimes a 20:1 ratio or more.

Terrible service and staff that refuses to listen. Sub par care and constantly rude to the people who pay to keep their doors open. If I could zero stars I would. If you care at all about the person you are considering taking to this facility, pick somewhere else. They don t do their job and are the least compassionate people I ve ever met.

My name is Dale. After cardiac AFIB and congestive heart failure, my rehabilitation at the Brian Center at Southpoint, Durham, NC my care was a custom tailored program to achieve my challenged goals which were met with well planned physical therapy and occupational therapy programs as an outpatient.

I found that my gains and goals were well paced so as not to over tax my abilities and to focus on the many aspects of prevailing over my weak points.

The Brian Center is a very clean environment for recovery when you arrive.

The staff is welcoming and congenial from Stephanie at the front desk, Winny in the office, and Matt in the activity area. I worked closely with DeepTi for physical therapy and Sydney for Occupational Therapy.

I recommend the Brian Center because they are supportive, promote a positive attitude, and carefully guide you every step of the way on your quest for recovery.

My mother spent about three weeks here. Very difficult times, so I understand the safety and security measures and that COVID has created an atmosphere where things might be understaffed and hectic. I appreciate those who took care of her while she was there, but there are definitely some things that should be addressed. When she was discharged after three weeks, I was shocked at what I saw. Two attendants literally had to stuff her almost lifeless body into my car. Her leg muscles had shrunken considerably as well as one of her arm muscles. Apparently, if someone comes by to ask if you want to go for a walk, a late response or no response indicates a "refusal" and they move on to the next person. For a person with brain cancer, presenting an option like that and expecting them to be excited about the prospect is unreasonable. She got moved to different rooms, one of which rendered it impossible to see her through the window because of the location of the room. It would have been nice to have been notified of this before I showed up, only to find that I couldn't see her. Upon being discharged and going through her belongings when we returned home, I noticed that her iPad was missing. Calls were made, phone number was left, and to this day still have not heard back from them and this has not been resolved. So, while I appreciate that they kept her alive and fed her and provided some care for the time she was there, was not happy with some of the other things.

My parents found my brother on the floor when the came to visit him, no response from the staff and they just returned my brother back to the hospital because they were incapable of taking care of him. We've made multiple attempts to contact them but we receive nothing but voicemails and no return calls. Wouldn't put my worst enemy here.

The CNAs would gather in a room where a patient had dementia and talk about their weekend and stayed on their phones all the time. They would not take vital signs if needed before BP medication needed to be admin., so the nurse had to do it. If they were busy that would have been understandable, but they were horrible and should have been fired. They refused to do accuchecks so the nursing staff had to do that along with suctioning, breathing treatments, IV, crushing most medications, etc. Senior management would come in and praise the CNAs and state how the Center couldn't operate without them and say nothing positive to the nursing staff. Nurses were unfriendly and did NOT care about the patients. Former employee

Brian Center does a great job under very difficult conditions. I have been to many of these kinds of facilities over the years, and recently, to visit friends and family members. I believe the people who complain about the Brian Center must not have many other similar facilities to compare them to, or have been fortunate to frequent the upscale facilities that only the wealthy can afford.

My hats off to the staff at Brian Center - they have a difficult job and for the most part they do it very well - day in and day out, year after year.

My Father had a couple of falls and was admitted to the hospital for several weeks. He was discharged to Brian center Southpoint for rehab and nursing care upon my request. He had a wonderful experience during his stay. The nursing care he received was BEYOND my expectations, the nurses and RCA's were WONDERFUL!!!! and attentive to my all of dad's needs. The therapy he received was GREAT!!!! Thank you Matt and Depti for pushing him when he needed that extra push. Thank you all for the tender care you provided my dad in order for him to return home and to his independent lifestyle.
My family has had another member at Brian Center Southpoint and she received the same high level of care, so when the hospital said he needed Rehab it was a "no brainer" for us. Thank you Brian Center Southpoint for taking such great care of my family when the need occurs. We will be back if the need occurs. I recommend you to everyone that ever ask where my dad went for Rehab. Cheryl Olive

Where do,I start? Yes,they have the best rehab department. The physical therapy dept.is very dedicated to their residents, their very well trained, knowledgeable and dedicated to giving you their best. As far as the rest of the facility...Let's say looks are deceiving. Yes,the building is nice and that's all the administrator cares about. The Director Of Nursing could careless about the care that is recieved there. All she care about is...Nothing! How can you give good care...Being over worked and under staffed. A ratio of 18 to 1for a nursing assistant. Management talks to the staff rudely and unprofessionally. They will promise you the world to get you in the door. This place needs new management with fresh new ideas and passion for their employees and residents.

I removed my mother within 24hrs. I do NOT recommend this place. Our concerns for the events that had taken place that night with her have been belittled. After pressing the call light for toileting needs the male assistant entered her room noticing she had on an adult brief. He told her to use the bathroom on herself. Then proceeded to get face to face with her and told her she better not call back for at least another two hours and that she better not tell anyone about this. I have much more to elaborate on that transpired there within 24 hours. Not knowing the area we took the advise from UNC Chapel Hill to move our mother here for stroke rehabilitation. I am a nurse of 20 years and I would never ever place my trust again with The Brian Center Southpoint.

This review is strictly for the rehab team! They are amazing and truly care about patients and their goals. If you are looking to go to grad school for OT and need to fulfill hours at a Skilled Nursing Facility, the OTs and OTAs here are fabulous to follow. While observing an array of patients in a Skilled Nursing Facility (no patient cases are ever the same) the OTs really take their time to explain the treatment plans, needs, and goals of the patients you witness. They are warm, welcoming, friendly, and are always open for questions. I'd highly recommend coming here if you are thinking about becoming an OT/PT and need hours for grad school.

I highly recommend Brian Center Southpoint. The facility is clean, well maintained and offers excellent accommodations. The staff is attentive and professional. Two of my elderly aunts (sisters) were residents at this facility and were well taken care of. The facility was able to house them together in a comfortable room which made their stay so much easier on both of them'.

A cousin relocated from a facility in Raleigh after knee surgery. She was also well cared for and successfully rehabilitated to be able to go home to finish her recovery.

I have either worked in, or with this facility for almost 17 years, and I can say, this is the best of the best. Don and Vickie take the facility care very seriously, and do everything within their power to make sure a residents stay is as close to perfect as it can be. Much can be said about the longevity of the leadership in this facility, the Administrator Don, Director of Nursing Vickie, Rehab Program Manager Lisa and many others have been in their roles for as long as I have been affiliated with this facility. Frequent winners of the company's prestigious CEO Round-table Award, Blue Ribbon winners, and frequent deficiency free State Survey results. All examples of their focus, dedication and determination to make Brian Center Southpoint a truly spectacular facility.
I have said many times, if I ever have to place my parents, I wouldn't trust their care to any one else.

I highly recommend Brian Center Southpoint for your post hospital care. The nursing care is great and staff friendly, everyone is helpful. Rehab is great and assisted me with walking again. The facility is neat and clean, no odors like most other facilities I visited before choosing Brian Center. You could not go wrong going here.

You have to constantly be an advocate for your loved one otherwise they will be neglected. Very disappointed in the poor staffing and their lack of knowledge. There are a few rock stars there, but they can't do it all or always be there . Did not live up to our expectations based on what we read from the website. When my mother went there they had a 3.4 rating, second highest in the area. Now there are down to 2.8? Clearly a reflection of the poor quality of service they are giving. Would not recommend.

My mother was admitted to Brian Center in Durham a...

My mother was admitted to Brian Center in Durham after a 3 month hospital stay for rehab to return to her prior functional status. I would love to give more than one star, but I cannot.

Issues we experienced while there:

-Room cleanliness: floors were carpeted with a major smell (present on admission so it was not my mom). The showers clearly had mold in the grout of the tile and were overall very dingy. The chairs were upholstered and had stains on them. I can only imagine they were the stains of incontinence. Of note, when I complained about this issue we were moved to a room with hard wood floors and cleaner bathroom. So if you find your self or loved one at Brian center, make sure to get the room with hardwood laminate and not carpet. They should dispose of the upholstered chairs as I cannot imagine how they could pass any sort of inspection for basic hygiene.

-Baths: My mom was never assisted with bathing while she was at Brian Center. The only baths she received are the ones I gave her. The CNA said it was PT/OT's job, PT said it was OT's job, and OT said it was the CNA. When I complained about this, I was promised by the DON that my mother would be offered a bath the next day and she was not.

-Clothing laundry: If you have your clothes washed by the center you must stay on them to get your clothes returned. Only after I made a complaint did some of the clothes return. I think we finally got all of her clothes back. We were assured if they were labeled it wouldn't be a problem, but it was.

-Communication from outside physicians: Mom's team that cares for her disease spent 90 minutes trying to make one medication adjustment and tell staff that her IV medication was the same dose as prior. It was very difficult for her team to contact and interact with the brian center.

-I did not have major expectations and was very aware the level of care would be much less intense than the hospital, however-- we did expect basic human needs to be met which were not.

-Director of Nursing: When I received a call from the director of nursing regarding the complaints she came from a place of defensiveness and that just didn't settle well with me. That was ultimately the deciding factor in transferring my mother's care out. I did not believe that there would be any long sustainable change in the care for my mom.

-The room ambassador and person in charge of sales were very helpful in navigating all of those issues and they are great assets. The nurses were very kind and helpful but clearly over extended and therefore not available for more than simple med passes. We never experienced help from the CNA's who I also imagine are completely over extended.

The food was good.

I have had several family members at the Brian Center, most recently my father-in-law. He came for rehab after surgery for lung cancer. While receiving therapy he had a stroke and due to the quick reaction and skills of the staff he was rushed to the hospital and able to return to Southpoint after a short hospital stay. Although he passed away in January, I cannot thank the staff enough for the excellent care he received. The facility is always clean and staff is pleasant and took care of him with dignity and respect. Thank you Brian Center Southpoint for the care you give to your residents.

The facility is very clean and the physical therapy staff is excellent. Spent two weeks there but the nurses are sub par. I'd call for a nurse and 15 minutes later someone would show up and tell me a nurse would come in. Usually it took another half hour for a nurse to actually show up. Food is sub par also. Kept asking for low carb diet yet they kept sending me high carbs. This happened everyday for two weeks. No fresh foods.

i would like to give zero stars but it's not allowed. Do not bring any of your family here. Dianna the director of transition wasn't helpful at all and made my sister do all the work when it came to contacting the insurance, it's not my sisters job to contact them it was suppose to be hers. They don't work well with the good insurance and we realized in the process that my father had a prior workmen's comp claim ouy nd beacuse of that they were no help to us. If you have really good insurance then you will be accepted, with all the time and frustration we were given we didnt send our father there, we kept getting the run around. She wasn't very nice either she was very demanding on what she wanted and even the insurance company laughed to my sister saying it's not her job to call but that it's dianna's job and she just didn't care one bit about anything we had to say about it because she wasn't even willing to help and we had to do it on our own. This center isn't gonna get far with a director like her as the transition director who is suppose to make the cross over to rehab a smooth one.

I have several friends who stayed at the Brian Center Southpoint for nursing care and rehab services after hospital stays. They both say they would most certainly return back again for care, because everyone was so helpful. Rehab team is amazing and got them both stronger and returning home quicker than if they had gone somewhere else. Both of my friends were very pleased with how the nurses responded to their needs with compassion and skillful knowledge. Brian Center Southpoint deserves ALL the STARS!!

This place is straight trash. They killed my grandmother! The nurses are lazy and they take their sweet time tending to the patients in there! The human resource department is a joke. You call and complain and they only treat your loved one worst. If you care about your loved one, do not send them here to this facility!

I would not take a dog here for rehab! or my worst enemy! The staff knowledge is of a middle school kid, I dont know who is running this place but they need to be shut door, lock the doors and throw away the kid. The care my parent received here was the worst I have ever seen, the nurses are not friendly and always have an attitude if you ask for anything, the rooms are not clean, the food is some mess I would never ever eat even if I was straving. The rehab theraphy is a joke! They dont have a meal plan for diabetics I was told everyone eats the same thing! What how crazy is that. If you love your family, do not leave them in this place! Worst Care Award!

My stay at the Brian Center has been the best anyone could desire for Rehab. My main nurse Gary was incredible and nurse Dorothy was terrific also. Eddie, Michael, Julia, Al and others works with me in PT to regain my strength and physical abilities. My Ambassador Linda was always there for me when needed. The care and understanding was phenomenal. The doctors we're always on top of everything. So many other people on the staff were helpful and attentive. If you need rehab, you couldn't find a better place. Thanks for all you have done.

I want to thank the staff at The Brian Center Southpoint for taking such great care of my father, Buzz S the two times he was admitted for falling.
I want to give a special thanks to the following who I had the most interaction with.
First and foremost, Gary who went over and beyond the call of duty in providing incredible care, respect, compassion and laughed at all my Dad's jokes and made him smile!
Ditto for Dorothy who covered for Gary and my Dad raved about.
Sue who was so compassionate and provided guidance on how to navigate Dad's care post discharge.
Tee Tee who helped with his hygiene, personal assistance and always greeted him with a smile and of course laughed at his jokes.
PT/ OT-
If I'm forgetting anyone's names apologies!
My Dad spoke about Big AL, Tom, Courtney & Rachel who kept on my Dad to do his exercises and improve.
Abigail, the dietitian who immediately came to see me regarding my father's diet which was a renal/ low sodium one after he was given the choice of a sausage or hotdog ( No Bueno Brian Ctr corporate!) and went over menu options with us.
Treco who gave me her cell phone and was so quick to follow up and be so wonderfully helpful.

The Care Team who my sister and I met with was clearly compassionate and offered the best advice and feedback.
Finally Courtney who was our point of contact and helped so wonderfully with my father's discharge, arranging hospital equipment and her responsiveness.

The minuses and this is for corporate. For a rehab facility geared towards the recovery of patients and well being of your staff, to have incessant , stressful loud siren to alert your staff to a patients needs is absolutely horrific!
I can't imagine what that does to your staff's central nervous system. I would imagine the long term effects of hearing that 8+ hours a day does.
I needed a drink after leaving the first time.

The first time i heard it I thought your facility was on lock down due to an active shooter. Spend the money and replace it! Shame on you if you don't. Your staff and patients deserve to recover and work in a clean, quiet environment.

I was recently a patient at the Brian Center for Rehab on my hip . This was my 4th time here for various reasons and each time I have had an excellent experience. Everyone there always gets the best of care and that is why I always choose the Brian Center. The staff is always more than kind , very accommodating and CARING. The Nurses and CNAs were so helpful and professional. The Rehab Dept is the BEST around. They have always encouraged me to work hard and for that I am very grateful. I always leave stronger and healthier . I give the whole team A++++++++

My Mother has been in the Brian Center, near South...

My Mother has been in the Brian Center, near Southpoint Mall in Durham, NC for 2 years for long term care now plus she was in there for several years in 2006 after her brain surgery for Rehab plus long term care. During her Rehab stay we were invited to the multidiscplinary meetings which included speech therapist, nursing etc. I have never had a problem getting my questions answered outside of those meeting either.

The physical therapist, occupational, speech therapists, nursing staff including nursing assistants were great - then as now. They did wonderful work then, especially Anita and Steven, who are still on staff. Don Joseph has been the Administor, doing an exemplary job, working with Vickie O'Quinn as the Director of Nursing. There ongoing commitment to provide quality care shows. I have seen them there many weekends as well as all hours during the week.

My mother was readmitted to the Brian Center Southpoint 2 years ago when we were unable to provide the round-the-clock care that she needs, with her dementia progressing. All of the staff has provided such quality care to my Mom and to so many other patients. There are so many that have been helpful. Debra has been the Activities Director for years and her love of those patients shows. Charee has been a wonderful Nursing Assistant who has helped my Mom. Kristen has worked behind the scenes and at the front desk doing a good job. Myra , LPN has gone above and beyond helping me get address special care needs for my Mom. Pam, Sue, Gail, Felicia have all been wonderful nurses to my Mom.

Loretha and others clean the rooms and do a great job. Tracy washes the personal clothes and linens and the kitchen staff does a great job, too.

Marietes has a great smile and is so helpful. Dorothy has been an Aide there for years and is so kind to the patients. Trina, Adrianne, Sara, Natalie, Debra, Theo - there are many who provide such wonderful care.
I hope I didn't miss anyone since so many have helped my mother and other families there. I don't know what salary they make but the nursing assistants especially deserve a raise. That is a tough job to do in any nursing home facility or hospital. No place is perfect but as the saying goes one should walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you complain. This is a quote that is used in all of life's situation. I do take my hat off to all of the Employees at Brian Center Southpoint. I feel they are caring people who the Lord has placed in a nursing home to take care of people like my Mother and many other elderly people. My the Lord Bless them ten fold!

This facility is a great place to have a friend or family member. I visited a friend almost daily and never found anything amiss with him. He was always happy. The staff is friendly, they look like they enjoy their jobs and this shows in the care they give. Management always seems to be in the facility, I think the head nurse must live there since she is there so much. The nursing staff is very responsive to all my friends needs. This is the greatest place to put someone for care if you have to.

I wouldn't board my dog here if I didn't have to. All of my sister's doctors are desperately trying to help me get her moved...since the covid crisis, I can't even get in to help. And they've wanted her out as badly as I have; she'd only been in five days before they found out when Medicare stopped making full payments and they've asked her when she's leaving every day since. She's paralyzed with a brain tumor. She cries every day. I was going to take her to a hotel but her kind and caring neurologist has found us a Ronald McDonald house for adults. Pray for us please. I take her food...

My Aunt recently completed her second stay at Brian Center Southpoint after back surgeries and need for IV antibiotics for an extended period of time. The nursing staff was very professional and took excellent care of her. Therapy assisted her in meeting her rehab goals and getting back on her feet. Everyone is always busy and running around but take the time to stop, smile and offer to answer questions. The facility is clean and you don t smell stale odors like in most facilities.

This review refers to the short term rehab side of the center. I can't comment on the long term side because I never saw it and therefore cannot give an opinion.

That being said, I liked my time in rehab. I have been there twice & fell in love with the staff. From the nurses to the administrators, from the ambassadors to the therapists, almost everyone treated me like a member of a family. Especially the therapists - despite the physical pain I was in, I really did enjoy going to the gym because everyone there was kind, friendly, and genuinely wanted to see me get better. Deepti, Tom, Julia, Brandy, Stephanie, the two Rachels, the two Kims, Al, Michael, Eddie, Cape, Matt and Nate -if I've forgotten anyone forgive me. But these people are wonderful at their job and I'd be blessed to call any of them a friend. Nate gave me a compliment one day that meant the world to me and inspired me to be better in every way. I'll be grateful to him forever for that. I also got especially close to Deepti and Tom while I was there and was almost sad when I had to leave because I knew I'd miss seeing their smiling faces every day.

But back to the review of the facility itself. Every room has its own air conditioner, which as a person who runs hot, I was very grateful for. Most rooms have their own bathroom and shower but not all. If you want to be sure you will get that I recommend asking before being admitted. Some rooms are nicer than others - I found that if you're on the side with carpeting, your room will be nicer. Their are no odd smells or elderly folks passed out in their wheelchairs. All rooms have their own televisions and are equipped with WiFi. The beds are comfortable. And they will bring in a rolloway bed so that loved ones may stay the night (or several nights) with you. Every room had a closet with a key and a small safe in the closet with its own key where you can store valuables. I also enjoyed that I was allowed to order groceries, shelf stable things like six packs of Sprite and snacks. They don't allow a mini refrigerator however.

The nurses are mostly amazing as well. Norma, Mary, Mirica, and Gary are superstars. Despite having a huge number of patients, they still manage to get their meds out on time and accurately. I love them all for taking such good care of me.

There are a few problems that need addressing and one of them is that it takes a very long time sometimes for the call bell to be answered and even when it is answered, the CNA most often takes a long time to fulfill your request. I once waited 45 minutes. This is not always true. There are some superstars there, including Tiffany, Tasha, Anita, Cat, Shaunita, Kahlia and a few whose names are completely escaping me. These CNAs are amazing and truly care about their patients.

Another issue is the food. They really need to hire better cooks and keep better stock. Several times I was served a slice of white bread, referred to as a "dinner roll" on the menu. Often their food tastes like it came from a box and cooked in the microwave. At breakfast they have grits every. single. day. I wish they'd change it up and serve oatmeal or cream of wheat on occasion. There is also no menu for diabetics and the meals are often carb heavy. When I asked for a diabetic menu I was told everybody gets the same food. There is the option of an alternate tray of food but it is often just as bad. I lived on Raisin Bran and PB and J during my stay there, and while certainly not ideal, I knew that my time in the gym would help keep my blood sugar in check.

I did run into a few personnel problems while there, but they were few and far between. Most of the staff will make you feel comfortable. James, the admissions administrator, went above and beyond for me several times. And despite my few gripes, I found The Brian Center to be a warm, inviting place. I think the people complaining about this place have never been to a rehab facility. The Brian Center is a palace compared to some of the other places in the area which can only be described as a hole. I can't recommend it more.

Due solely to gross negligence, this facility contributed heavily toward the eventual demise of my father. The ONLY reason I am giving a one star rating is due to not being able to submit this entry otherwise. I would not recommend this snake pit of a facility to my worst enemy.

My wife and I were completely caught off guard just driving up to the place! Brian Center Southpoint is so inviting, from the flowers, rocking chair front porch, water fountain garden to the warm atmosphere inside the facility. All of the staff were so friendly and caring.
They have a beautiful dining room that the administrator serves the lunch to the patients most days. Good meals compared to her meals at Duke.
The nursing care was excellent! They were responsive to pain medication request, efficient and timely with their checks on my wife. The nursing assistants varied in skills and interest- from super attentive to just doing the minimum. Thankfully the former outnumbered the latter. If you had issues with the latter all you had to do was see or call the Director of Nursing and she handled them immediately.
Therapy was excellent and my wife reached the goals set for her quickly so she was able to come home to be with her fur baby.
The facility is clean and you don't find odors like you do when you visit facilities and we visited 3 others before deciding on Brian Center Southpoint.

My wife, Jennifer Blachly, has twice been a patient at The Brian Center. Both times she has had so many good things to say about the physical therapy department, as well as the nursing staff. One of her nurses, Ms. Norma Evans, stands out to both of us as particularly kind, caring, and compassionate. I stayed with my wife several days and nights and personally witnessed how hard Norma works. She always made sure my wife got all her medication on time, especially her pain meds, and ensured that she didn't suffer needlessly. If my wife wasn't in her room, Norma would hunt her down in the building to bring her meds to her. Norma is a standout nurse and we felt incredibly lucky that she was my wife's carer. Thank you Brian Center for hiring such capable people.

Would not recommend. My grandmother has very sensitive skin. They were rough moving her up and down which caused scratches and a lot of bleeding. One night my grandmother became very weak and disoriented. Took 15-30 minutes to actually get someone to come into the room to check her out. They told us the doctor couldn t come until Monday (this was on a Saturday). I felt my grandmothers forehead and it was burning hot. I asked the nurse to check her temp and she said it was normal. The doctor called the facility to call my family and said it would cause too much stress on her to move her to the hospital 30 minutes later our family made the group decision to send my grandmother to the hospital to get checked out. The EMS came in and said her temp was 104.7. If we did not send her to the hospital and had listened to the doctor at the Brian center, then my grandmother would have died within hours.

My mom has been a patient at Brian Center Southpoint on four different occasions and we have been extremely pleased. The CNAs and Nurses welcomed my mom and treated her with compassion and professionalism. The entire staff are friendly, helpful, and caring. The facility is clean, well staffed and clearly well run. We are extremely grateful to the Therapy Team. Not only did my mom recover well from her orthopedic surgeries , she always left even stronger than we anticipated. I felt so comfortable with her being there and just as comfortable when she left , knowing she recovered fully and would be safe at home. My mom loved the entire staff and wanted to go back for Outpatient Therapy at the Brian Center.

Where can I begin...the experience was so important to me and my family. My grandfather was a resident at Brian Center Southpoint until he passed away in March. They treated him gently and kindly with such genuine love and caring. This place is outstanding....in the beginning and thru out his stay. It takes special people to do the job of caring for our parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles. It is a job of COURAGE, BRAVERY, COMPASSION, DEDICATION and most of all a job of the HEART. I know this because I saw it most every day of his stay when visiting and he was surrounded by people who loved and cared for him. You can call the nurses at any time of the day and get updates on your loved one. If you are looking for a place to care for someone you love or even short term rehab after the hospital, stop by the Brian Center Southpoint. Look at the faces of the staff and residents, speak to visitors, you will find it is the perfect place for your relative. We sure did.

My experience with my dad was not good. He was discharged after recovering from illness and was supposed to be undergoing rehab. I wish my family had listened to the low reviews. He was always in a dark room flat on his back when I came in, even after asking his care coordinator to encourage him to get dressed and sit up during the day. He was checked on day 20 by a doctor and was found to be dehydrated with a bedsore. Back to the hospital he went. We took him home after our experience and did shifts to provide care. He passed earlier this month. Never again. If your loved one can't do a little for themselves do not put them in here. There were a couple of CNAs on the evening shift that did work. Overall I give this place a F.

Thank God for Matt Morrison and the Physical and Occupational Therapy staff at Brian Center South Point for the healing you bring to all of us that need your help to heal and get back to a normal life. Along with the healing we received a sweet blessing of pain and friendship.

All I can say is that Matt and the staff is very professional, knowledgeable and kind. They demonstrated excellent assessment skills, the ability to achieve a clear and effective outreach plan for my successful recovery. Again, Thank You so very much for Matt and Staff. Lula Johnson

Although some of the workers are less than perfect...

Although some of the workers are less than perfect, my uncle was a less than perfect or model patient. Administration and staff alike work hard to take care of many needy patients (and family members, I was one) with a variety of needs. They have some real gems working there in every department. They gently guided a cranky old man to push through and he eventually walked out the door. I have read some of these negative reviews and all I can say is shame on you . They have this ambassador program and if you have a concern or issue, call your ambassador, they are a big help. If they are busy the administrator and Director of Nursing s number is also posted in the room and they answer all the time. I know because I called. I say shame on you because you didn t use these avenues to make your concerns known or you didn t want to. Places like this get enough bad press by lawyers and people looking for something to go wrong to sue and get fast money. Well let me tell you... Brian Center Southpoint is a wonderful place to take your loved one for nursing care and therapy. It is a place you can trust and know the best care is being given. Go visit, meet and talk to the staff, don t believe all this negative stuff you read. YOUR LOVED ONE WILL GET EXCELLENT CARE HERE!!!!!!!

I have had several close family friends at the Brian Center Southpoint. They all have had wonderful experiences there. The nursing staff and everyone else were always willing to go above and beyond to make sure that my friends and their loved ones had what they needed. The staff is friendly and always display great compassion for the residents there. The facility is clean. I would recommend this facility to anyone.

I think that the PT/OT. Team is excellent, very patient and caring, I couldn't ask for a better team to help my mother-in-law regain her strength and mobility. Great team!!!!

The facility is , i think the sanitation grade is 98, but the majority of the staff is not trained properly or they just lack the concern for the clients. The call bell rings, it takes a very long time to be answered, fortunately we provide my mother-in-law with all the support and assistance she needs. I pay for the people that don't. The staff her needs to take a class on empathy, patience, morals and respect. I hate to imagine the treatment that people get who doesn't have family and support from love ones. I urge you to take the time to research other rehabilitation centers before considering the Brian Center, of course i recommend the OT team if you can utilize the services on a outpatient basis. The Brian Center lacks concern for caring for loved ones

This is an awesome facility with excellent Leadership. I had two family members at this facility and our family was very well pleased with the care that was given to them. The Administrator would help each day with feeding the patients that could not feed themselves. He knows his patients and this is so important. The nurses and nursing assistants were very attentive to our family members and very pleasant and helpful. This facility is very clean and well maintained. The entire staff on all levels were very helpful and professional. I would highly recommend Brian Center Southpoint to anyone needing extended nursing care for their family members or rehabilitation on a short term basis.

The experience that my Mother had was not good at ...

The experience that my Mother had was not good at all. I arrived at the Center along with transport to get her settled into her room. That was my first disappointment. The room was not set up for her arrival and I would have hoped that they would have been more prepared for her. My Mother was there for rehab on a fractured hip. The room had no wheelchair, walker or handicap bathroom access setup. I had to keep asking until each needed piece was brought to the room. I ask the CNA about how the help would work for getting her to the bathroom and with a scrunched up face her reply was "that might be a problem". She proceeded to say she could get her a "diaper". At that point I realized we had an issue. I called the case worker from the facility that helped to get her there and hoped that would fixed the problems. But it didn't. She arrived on a Thursday and by Monday morning no one had ever even offered to help her take a bath and the bed was never made or changed the entire time she was there. The slow or no response at all to ringing the bell for help caused her to get up on a walker by herself and make it to the bathroom. (She was on a weight restriction for her hip) and no one seemed to even have that patient information or didn't care. I am shocked at what they say the daily cost for this rehab facility is based on the lack of care that is given. It's a total shame.
Sorry to say the bad experience caused my Mother to sign herself out that Monday and go home with my Brother. I wish the therapy had worked out for her.

I helped care for a friend who was there for the last 4 weeks of his life. The staff were kind and helpful. like most facilities they are very short staffed so their response time is often slow. All the residents have intensive needs and so it is hard for everyone. When hospice became involved the facility was cooperative. The business office was generous in helping a service connected veteran stay in a private room for the short time he was there. The most remarkable was the transition people who work to help people get admitted. 2 people Diane and Rebecca made it possible for my friend to be admitted there before the horrible facility where he was succeeded in killing him. I assure you I am not exaggerating about their wonderful efforts or the horrible conditions of the facility that they helped him leave. All of this was accomplished dealing with the VA. this is no easy task.

I highly recommend this facility to everyone that is looking for a loving and caring home away from home for their love ones. My brother has been in this facility for several years.
I feel this facility is the best place where he can get the care he need. He is well taken care of. Appearance means a lot and he is neat and clean at all times. The facility is very clean and fresh. The employees are on point and available to help.
You are greeted you with a smile from the staff. I think this is the best facility for my brother. Thank God for this facility and the loving care they are giving my brother.

Some excellent staff members, especially in physiotherapy! Thumbs up to Eddie and Michael!!!! Great nurses and other members of the staff, for the most part. However, some are angry employees and should be removed from the facility! Food ranges from delicious to barely satisfactory. Portion sizes too small for adult men; I lost weight eating their meals. I am finally gaining it back. Covid has made living at Brian Center difficult ; but that is true all over the U.S. Loud and unruly patients need to be separated from the rest of the residents.

My mother was a resident at Brian Center Durham for 13 years due to Multiple Sclerosis. I have seen many changes and improvements over these years and the staff from dietary, housekeeping/laundry, all levels of nursing, therapy and management was responsive to all her needs, family questions or concerns. They made her years and days comfortable. My father was a resident there for 3 years and recently came home after my mother passed away. The staff at Brian Center understood and accommodated his desire to assist her with meals and things. My grandmother was a resident there for several years and so was my aunt. They give the best care of any place in the area and when my father needs to go back to a facility he will return to the Brian Center! To have had so many family members there and willing to put a love one there again speaks volumes about the center and anyone would be crazy to go anywhere else but Brian Center.

I am currently a long term resident of this facility. I have been here since July of 2018. Prior to this stay I have been here for rehab after multiple (10+) spinal surgeries. I have also during that period stayed at the two other primary rehab facilities in Durham. This facility rates far above all others I have been in.
The Brian Center Southpoint is kept immaculately clean and sterile where necessary both inside and out.

As with any facility of this type, one employee out of 100 can leave a bad impression but The Brian Center Southpoint employees always present a cheerful attitude and a genuine care and concern for the condition of the residents

The quality of physical and occupational therapy is far and above any where else I have been.

My Papa was at Brian Center for 10 weeks, myself a...

My Papa was at Brian Center for 10 weeks, myself along with multiple family members visited him daily. He had a very painful knee infection and needed IV antibiotics plus wound care. The nurses are highly skilled and knowledgeable with this and wound care. The CNAs helped him with his daily bathing and dressing however encouraged him to do as much as he could for himself with that tough love approach. The therapist were very compassionate and pushed him to work through the pain to make progress. The facility is clean with no odors and housekeeping cleans the rooms daily. The food is good and meals were delivered to his room. The staff took the time to learn all of our names and always greeted us in a friendly manner and took the time to answer our questions. He is now back to his Assisted Living, walking with a walker, wound is healed, he can dress himself and be independent thanks to these great people.
While I know there are some negative reviews about Brian Center often times those of us that had a great experience fail to mention it or took it for granted. I have to ask. WHY?? Why write a negative review when you had the power to change what made you dissatisfied. Everything doesn t go perfect every time and I know for a fact this place has many ways to talk to someone if something isn t right. Our review for Papa is great but we had a rocky start. He complained about his diet, no salt but they made every effort to make it taste better for him and he liked it. But can you blame the facility for his high blood pressure and heart failure that says he can t have salt??? No! We took him out for his birthday and kept him all day, his wound care wasn t done exactly on time but it got done when he got back. Can you blame the facility for a wound infection he already had and we kept him out all day? No! Can you blame the facility because he is impatient and doesn t want to wait 5-10 minutes for something?? No! That is his fault and ours for spoiling him.
Brian Center Southpoint took great care of him, they listened to us and made us feel welcome and never a bother.
So my question is why be negative and have a bad experience when you have the power to make it a good one by talking to someone at the facility before it gets this far?????? We did!

Brian Center has provided excellent care for my grandfather who currently needs a lot of rehab and support. Dianna went above and beyond, working around the clock, to get him admitted from home quickly. She thoroughly explained the admissions process, provided information on the facility, and explored long-term care options with us. I still have not heard back from other facilities I contacted about admitting him! Their therapists are patient, encouraging, and really care about their patients. The staff contacts me all hours to give updates, which I really appreciate. I know he is safe and getting the best care he needs at Brian Center. Thank you to everyone who has turned this incredibly difficult time into a positive and hopeful experience for our family!

The original review I wrote is too long to post. That should say something in itself. If you would like specific details feel free to contact me. Otherwise I m going to just keep it short and sweet. Do NOT send your loved ones here. I wouldn t send my worst enemy here! The nursing and staff are negligent, rude, liars, and manipulative. The past two weeks my loved one spent in this facility were hell. Complete hell for himself and the entire family. This place is seriously a joke. We ended up sending him to the EMERGENCY room for malnutrition, dehydration, cuts, bruises, and more. He had been so mistreated. The staff is covering up so many things such as their abuse and neglect towards patients. I honestly believe with all my heart that if we didn t take my loved one out he would have completely wasted away in there. PLEASE, don t send your loved ones here. We were fooled by the beauty of the facility and the reviews online. This place is hell on Earth. Please, please, please don t send anyone here! State needs to shut them down!!!

I recently had the pleasure of being a patient at Brian Center Southpoint. I have been in several facilities over the past couple of years and this one exceeded all of my expectations. It is the BEST!! I had one of the Best CNAs in Anita. All of the staff from therapy, dietary, housekeeping, and nursing were absolutely amazing. They all helped me regain my physical strength and maintain my sanity. The Director of Nursing was my Ambassador and she took the time to come visit me daily for talks and laughs. She is available all the time in person or a call away for all the residents at Brian Center. These folks all care so deeply about their patients, the degree of caring and compassion they have is impressive. I highly recommend this facility and would give it 10 stars if I could!!!

I have had several church members and 2 family members at Brian Center in past years and most recent months. When I sat down to write this review I saw the negative reviews and I call bull I can honestly say the staff has given everyone I know great care. The staff that work at this facility are true HEROES in my book , they are working under the worst of circumstances a pandemic. They did everything they could to keep my loved one safe and COVID-19 free and I really appreciate that, maybe these other naysayers don t. I understand why I couldn t get in to see my family, I learned patience and that they would call me back when they had time between meeting the needs of their patients. This place has bragging rights, not only do they give exceptional care but by following them and asking around, they have really protected their residents from this virus all of their patients have remained COVID FREE through this whole pandemic, who else can say that? Outstanding support from all staff. Extremely friendly, courteous and kind. Patients are number one priority here. All staff listen and respond to any concerns given immediately. All patient needs are addressed and family is involved in care of patient. Always notified of any issues and recommendations always welcome. PT, OT work as a great team in the recouperation of the patient. Staff extremely friendly and caring. My husband arrived not being able to do any of his care or walk. He is leaving walking and able to do his own care. Dietary Department addressed all issues and needs while he was here with an excellent selection of food. My husband really enjoyed sitting on the front porch and enjoyed the flowers. Very uplifting environment for patients. Room was very well equipped, as well as, they allowed me to bring my husbands dog to visit him. My husbands Ambassador (Linda Cassara) was always there for us and went above and beyond to help us during our stay. I would strongly recommend this facility to anyone who needs this type of extensive rehab care.

I highly recommend this facility!! My grandfather switched to the Brian Center Southpoint, after being mistreated at another facility. We immediately noticed a difference in his care by the staff at the Brian Center Southpoint. The nurses, aids, therapists, maintenance and staff from various departments within the building are always so very helpful and welcoming. My grandfather absolutely loves his caregivers, so that puts my family at ease knowing he's being treated well.

When i walk into the building, I'm always greeted with a smile, which goes a long way. Also, it says a lot when even the residents are as welcoming and friendly as the staff. It shows that they're being treated properly, which is why I always recommend the Brian Center Southpoint to anyone in need.
