Uniquely Cats took a look at my senior cat a coupl...

Uniquely Cats took a look at my senior cat a couple of weeks ago due to some sneezing with discharge. It was her first visit to this veterinarian clinic, and the vet technician took a look at her. During the exam, there was no talk about finances or any estimates on the work done. Furthermore, they tested for things that my previous vet already checked for, at astronomical rates. Even though Uniquely Cats pulled the records for all of the past medical history, I was still required to pay for ancillary tests.

The bill came out to $590.91 for a two-hour visit.

I called them about these charges. They were unable to explain them to me in a transparent manner. They offered to book a 'free' appointment with their 'head of medicine' to describe the charges. I don't understand how they were unable to explain these charges on the phone, as this seemed to be a regular new client visit. I told the receptionist that it wouldn't be free for me, as I would still have to spend my time and money on transportation. She laughed at me. I guess it is laughable in light of the enormous $600 fee.

Uniquely Cats is price adjusting based on their clientele and was unable to provide any consolation when I called them. I believe they took advantage of me because, at the time, I didn't understand what kind of tests my cat needed. Instead of hearing any viable explanation, our conversation, which lasted 20 minutes, consisted of us going in circles. Any establishment that isn't able to explain why service was so expensive shouldn't be trusted. This 'vet clinic' is no exception.

Instead of directly answering the question that I posed, Uniquely Cats decided to nitpick my analogies and acted like I had no idea what I was talking about. There seems to be a theme of condescending communication at this vet. I felt like I was treated like a child. For $600, I expect my voice to be heard, not pushed under the rug.

When you walk into Uniquely Cats, it looks more like a 5-star hotel than a vet clinic. They're able to spend enormous amounts of money on the interior because of their shady business practices and ability to scam new clients into running unnecessary and expensive tests.

After the results came back from the lab, they were forwarded to two different vets, and both said that the cat was fine, and her levels were in check. However, Uniquely Cats told me that I needed to run more expensive tests on my cat. They wanted me to run a $278 GI test, which doesn't make any sense considering the two other vets (that cross-examined the results) said that the cat was healthy.

To me, this is a blatant money grab. Uniquely Cats has not offered me any sort of refund, partial or full since I have voiced my concerns. No one has reached out to me since I called in. If you're paying hand over fist for 'top quality' vet care, then customer service should be apart of that.

This place was not worth the money, and with so many other options in Boulder, I don't see why anyone would go here.

Great experience! They listened and gave very insightful advice that has led to our 20 year old cat acting like the true little carpet lion that she wants to be. I honestly feel like they have given us extra years with our fuzziest of family members. Cannot recommend enough.

There is no better feline Veterinarian than Dr Slack. She was my kitties Veterinarian in Virginia for over twenty years and I have no doubt she added many years to my cats lives. Boulder is so lucky to have a Veterinarian of her caliber in their community. She truly cares about every one of her patients and provides quality care.

am just blown away by this place I could cry. I've had a series of awful experiences with vets in my lifetime. When your animal is sick you feel helpless. It cant talk and tell you what its feeling. You would expect a little empathy. Well I'd had enough and decided to take a coworker's recommendation to check out Uniquely being that they specialize in cats only! My cat is highly aggressive with vets btw so it's always an ordeal. We showed up promptly at 8a and were immediately greeted at the door where kitty was collected. About 15 minutes later the doctor called and we chatted. It was the loveliest most informative, educational conversation I've had about cats! I wish I recorded it lol. Dr Goodrich was passionate, knowledgeable and incredibly thorough. I wish they had a sister vet that serviced dogs. When I went to collect him the sweet lady dropping him off took her time to talk to me about diet suggestions. Oh and she was just snuggling with my "aggressive" cat lol. I received an email later (on a Sunday!). The level of detail and care is like nothing I've ever seen, and so incredibly personalized noting behavior observations. What a beautiful holistic approach. I'm so grateful to have come across you guys! Thank you from all my heart!!!

After one of my cats died of kidney disease last year (I strongly think the prescription dry cat food contributed), I took a recommendation and drove from Denver to this vet clinic. The tests they ran were pretty standard, but much more expensive than I d paid before. They have very strict food restrictions and said my cat was too overweight. There were two kinds of food in their list that my cat would eat. For 8 months, she was fine. Then she stopped eating and lost too much weight. My local visiting vet did new blood work. I wanted Dr Fine to review the results. At first, they just didn t respond to my request. Finally they said they d review those, but they wanted over $100 to just look!!
I dropped them. They don t really care about your cats. They want your money.
My father was a vet. There is no way he d have treated clients like this.

Wow! What can I say about this place? The place is calming for both kitties and myself. The vet is personable, never condescending, but rather talks to us like an old friend who understands our needs and what our kitties needs are. The receptionists at the front desk and the coordinators at the back are one of the most awesome and understanding people ever. It's a true taste and microcosm of the Colorado spirit and the best the state has to offer. I will miss this place as I head back to NYC!

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand they do actually understand cats, they don t treat your cat like a dog as I have experienced at a lot of vets. However, while the staff at the front desk is pleasant and kind the Dr herself is short and borderline rude, bedside manner is completely lacking. That in itself wouldn t be enough to deter me if it weren t almost impossible to actually talk to her outside of her examination of the cat. She will NOT come to the phone to speak with you, they will ask you to email her and she might get back to you in a few days.
The thing that s the most disappointing is they seem to be more interested in parting you with your money and lining their own pockets than actually being there to take care of your pet, if you have thousands and thousands of extra dollars just laying around with nothing to do this is the vet for you. I was charged six times...SIX TIMES!!! The amount I was quoted and completely maxed out my care credit card. I will be paying that single visit for years. Which leads me to the last complaint. While they do accept care credit they don t accept any if the care credit fixed interest plans. They said they can t afford it while charging a minimum of $130 just to look at your cat, then they add on any and every extra charge they possibly can.

In short, they don t care about you unless you re wealthy.

Wonderful staff and overall experience. My husband took our newly adopted Persian to see Dr. Fine at Uniquely Cats and I have to say, our experience was phenomenal from start to finish. Arrianna was very kind and attentive when I called to make the appointment, getting as much history on our kitty as possible to ensure the best appointment evaluation possible. Once it was time for our kitty s appointment, drop off was quick and easy. Dr. Fine spent almost an hour on the phone with my husband, going over all the details and recommendations of care for our new furry family member (this is our very first cat)! And she even let him know that she will be sending an email with everything they discussed so that we can reference it if we need any reminders. We choose to do the recommendation bloodwork and urine culture, any she let us know when to expect results and that she would be giving us another call at that time.

Just phenomenal care all around. Thorough from start to finish. Thank you!

Mixed experience here... the front desk and vet te...

Mixed experience here... the front desk and vet tech staff were AWESOME! The vet was not. My cat has a chronic auto-immune condition for which the UC vet only offered pain medication to manage until surgery. The surgery cost quoted by UC was based entirely upon a price I verbally indicated was given to me by a previous SPECIALIST, a specialist who works with this specific condition. I sought out UC because I could not afford the specialist price. The vet at UC only read the details provided from our previous vet chart (our regular vet who does not do surgery). UC vet indicated the cost of surgery -at a premium that matched the specialist price I quoted PRIOR TO ANY EXAMINATION OF MY CAT. Also prior to examination the UC vet was eager to reprimand me for not feeding my cat an ancestral diet. Shame is never a good tactic with clients who are already struggling with the pain of a sick pet. To compassionately inform is a better tactic. FORTUNATELY, the next vet I found -at a different clinic gave us antibiotics for pre-surgery treatment (quoted at a reasonable price since she is also not a specialist). Just 2 days on antibiotics, I saw a great improvement in my cat's quality of life, her personality bounced back, she started gaining weight and is no longer struggling with symptoms!

My friend's cat fell ill right before Uniquely Cats opened their beautiful new center. Even during this crazy-busy time for them they made a house call to see his sick cat! These guys really care!

An absolutely horrific clinic that does not care for animals. Instead of taking care of animals, they will charge you thousands or kill them. Without even giving the animal a chance, their first thought is to put them down. Always get a second opinion, and never let any of the opinions come from this place. If you love your cat, don't bring them here.
As someone who works with a bunch of rescues, this place has one of the worst reputations. I am not and never will be a customer at this establishment. I do know enough about the vet clinic to say this is the last place you would want to take your cat.

I recently visited Dr. Fine for my cats first visit at Unuquely Cats Veterinary Center and I couldn t have been more impressed regarding the sensitivity of the design of their cat care environment. The best way I can describe it is to compare it to the medical care environment we human animals are accustomed to. UCVC and Dr.Fine actually exceeded my own experiences in seeing a physician. They were the singular vet I d been to that requested all of his prior health records (there must of been 60 pages of these because he s 15 y/o). Following an initial visit lasting a FULL hour I received an email from Dr. Fine in which she summarized his prior treatment, current health status, her recommendations for future treatment and why she felt her recommendations were necessary. The amount of time and effort it must have taken her to do this for me much less for all of the patients she sees is astounding and far beyond the level of any medical care I ve received in my 62 years of seeing doctors. In comparison the standards of human medical care are abismal.
I could go on and on but I ll limit this to one more credit of many I could attribute to the quality of care my kitty is now receiving I ve subsequently had many questions about the treatments to come which I ve been able to email to Dr. Fine. She responds to these promptly and goes out of her way once again to make sure my concerns and questions are thoroughly addressed.
My cat is a person too and I m eternally grateful to have found UCVC.

Dr. Fern and her staff are amazing! Yes they may be a bit more expensive than other vets but they (especially Dr. Fern) are way more knowledgeable about keeping cats healthy and really understanding what health issues cats may have. I have been to many vets that just prescribe a pill or liquid without much investigation that does not target the underlying problem and ends up in multiple visits to try to figure out what is going on. Dr. Fern does not do this, she is very thorough and also explains in terms that normal people can understand and I have never had any other vets do this! I have had 2 cats pass in the last 1.5 years due to cancer and it was devastating! Dr. Fern was in literally sat in the floor with me as I cried and hugged me so tight which is something I really needed at that moment. I could go on and on here but the last thing I want to say is many people unknowingly feed there cats crappy dry food and honestly I believe this is part of why many cats are obese and have kidney and liver problems and before you know it, it's too late to save them because of diabetes etc. If you really care about your cats you will investigate and research what cats are really supposed to be eating, it could make a huge difference in your cats life!

This place is easily 2 to 3 times more expensive than any other vet. Service is not very good, in a routine visit they can easily try to charge you $400 for unnecessary tests. Feels like a boutique hair salon where you are paying just for that luxury experience (which really isn t that luxurious). I d recommend looking at other places.

I actually took one of my kitties here 10/31/19 and I could not have been any happier with this place. Everyone was very kind, down to earth, compassionate and took time to answer all my questions thoroughly. Dr G (Goodrich) even geeked out with me on cat health and some history on the topic, which I absolutely loved!! I loved everything about this cat hospital, a great experience!! I will be returning there and I highly recommend them Thank you all!!

World class vets. World class service. I can t speak highly enough about this place, the staff, the exceptional and thorough care, and knowledge they possess. I had another vet that missed a lot things that this clinic caught, and thank God for that too, as it was paramount to her health. UCVC is my new primary now and I will never take my cats anywhere else ever again. This place is worth every.single.penny. Thank you, UCVC, for prolonging my cats life - it is the most priceless thing anyone could ask for. Warm purrs, Gaia & Gus <3

We've been taking our cats to the humane society for five years now, but finally decided to try Uniquely Cats after a bad experience with their old vet. Our Luna is very easily freaked out, and lashes out at any stranger who tries to touch him. UC had a bunch of useful info on their website about how to best calm him down before our first visit. When we arrived, we were immediately given a private room where we could let Luna out of his crate. The vet allowed him to explore for a bit before coming in, then gave us a very thorough breakdown of how to change his diet to fix the issues he was having. The vet also gave us a full price quote before completing any additional services.

We are completely switching both of our cats' care over to Uniquely Cats, because their staff were all so patient and loving with our kitty and took our concerns seriously. I've never seen Luna more relaxed at a vet visit!

So I am going to share my experience honestly.

So I am going to share my experience honestly.

My kitty's first visit was with Dr. Fine, and it was very similar to one of the reviews. The full conversation with her during the visit just became a judgmental lecture on my aspect. She did not seem to understand that sometimes it is hard to get cats on fully wet diet on the owner's end even though it is good for the cats. I was given with a brief report that is hard to read after I asked on my own two weeks after.

Anyway I was almost getting so negative on Dr. Fine that I would not come back again. But while my friends are still recommending, so I tried switching to another doctor, Dr. Goodrich. She is totally different! She is so compassionate on cats while giving out suggestions very kindly! I enjoyed the conversation with her: she went through necessary information throughly, recommended stuff nicely, and also understood the situation while we cannot reach to the optimal situation. She also got back to me with a long, detailed and fully explained written email report on the exam during that appointment! After the visit my kitty got sick again and during this whole time, she was so responsive through email. I can see that she cares about every kitty she has seen and would like to provide the best for them. I really appreciate it.

So overall, this is a good hospital for cats especially when they are only focusing on cats but not treat them as "small dogs" like many other places will. The important thing to pay attention is that you do want to pick the vets you like.

I was SO disappointed with my visit today! :( The vet, Dr. Fine, gave me the MOST condescending lecture about feeding my cat dry food. I get where she's coming from, and I know all of her points about the benefits of wet food are valid. However, instead of providing some facts and a gentle suggestion and letting me make the decision, she made it clear that if I did not change his food, I was being a neglectful cat parent.

The only question I asked her was about some aggressive behaviors he shows in the morning. She told me that maybe "he and I weren't a good fit." What?! Who says that to an animal owner?!

The wellness exam (that cost me $105) took less than five minutes. The vet looked at his teeth, listened to his heart and touched his stomach.

After she left, the staff did his rabies shot, which was the only purpose of my visit. (They were fast, efficient and really sweet. In fact, all of the office staff were great.)

When all was said and done, I paid $130, after the original quote of $650 for a litany of testing she said he needed.

I was really disappointed with my visit, and not just because of the money. If the vet had treated me differently, I don't think the amount would have bothered me so much. While it's very clear she is passionate about cats and their well-being, she needs to take into account how her behavior comes off to their owners. After all, we make the decision on whether we come back to visit. I will not be coming back.

UPDATE: Barbara from Uniquely Cats reached out to me almost immediately and was very apologetic. In addition, she refunded the money for the wellness exam. I appreciate their great customer service and have adjusted my rating accordingly. It means a lot! Thank you, Barbara.

This vet may be good for some folks, but was not at all a good match for me.
Honestly, I try my best to do right by my cats, but all I was left with upon leaving this vet was this gaslit sense of anxiety that I was killing my four legged companions with the dietary choices I was making (some of which are prescribed foods from a trusted vet who is a bit of a drive from where we live now).
I felt like my efforts to care for my cats were met with a tremendous amount of condescension and an hour and a half lecture in which I was advised against both prescription foods and kibble.
By the time my cat was even addressed for her initial check up she was so stressed that she wouldn't come back out of her crate. Ultimately, it was an expensive lecture that left me skeptical.
If you want a traditional veterinary experience that feels like classic clinical care I would not recommend this vet. If you want to know about your cat's gut biome and prefer holistic care this may work better for you than it did for me.

Took our year old kitten into the Uniquely Cats Veterinarian Clinic a couple of days ago because we suspected she might have a UTI. Upon returning from the vet my husband told me that the veterinarian noted after palpating our kittens lower abdomen that it was probably just irritation and then spent the rest of the visit conveying her stance on the proper nutrition for cats.

Although not keen on this, i would of been okay if not two days later we once again noticed our little girl exhibiting symptoms of a UTI and so i queried my husband as to the results of her urinalysis. Imagine my surprise when he told me the vet had made the diagnosis of its probably just irritation in the absence of a urinalysis. She did not even take her temperature to see if it was elevated. Having a nursing background myself, i find it very troublesome that someone would make a diagnosis in the absence of any diagnostic test. Long story short is that we are now going to have to take her back to see another veterinarian because of what i believe was inadequate care by this veterinary clinic.

In closing, i should note that i never leave reviews (good or bad) but in this case, i think others need to e aware of the incredibly poor veterinary care we received (gave two stars because of how amazing and thoughtful the office personnel were). I only wish I could say the say thing about the veterinarian that looked after our little girl.

The entire team at Uniquely Cats is incredible, and they've gone above and beyond time and again for my sweet cat. I've had the pleasure of interacting with each of the vets, and they are all thorough, understanding, and knowledgeable. Recently, my cat had a serious, acute condition, and they were able to manage it quickly and effectively, helping keep her comfortable and nursing her back to health. I can't recommend this office enough, and trust them implicitly to care for my feline family members.

Amazing, beautiful clinic with truly dedicated staff. I brought my two kitties to Dr. Slack and she really took the time to see what was going on in their health. My highest recommendation.

Dr Fern is a highly skilled veterinarian whose approach to care is significantly more in depth and thoughtful than any we've previously experienced. She was thoughtful in her approach to a treatment plan for our cat and weighed many factors including the cost in her recommendations. Dr. Fern fully immersed herself in our cats care. She and he staff presented themselves with integrity and compassion, the likes of which we've experienced from no other practitioner.
When it came time to say goodbye to our 19 year old cat Dr. Fern and her lead technician Brittany came to our home and made a difficult process one of respect dignity and compassion and without pain for our cat.
We highly recommend Dr. Fern and her team at Uniquely Cats for your valued cat's care.

I am so grateful to have Uniquely Cats in my community. If you are looking for fantastically out-of-this-world care for your feline friend, this is the place to go. The first appointment was 90 minutes and felt like a conversation with a friend rather than a five minute drop-in like the typical vet appointment. Dr. Fine took her time to learn about Evie's behavioral, medical, dietary, and social history. She listened to my questions and provided context for many of the quirks Evie has.

Dr. Fine's depth of knowledge about cat diets was incredibly impressive. If you aren't familiar with species appropriate diets, you need to go in with an open mind and try not to become defensive. She was also extremely compassionate and made it clear that lack of understanding of cat diets is common. It's easy to fall victim to marketing schemes from "big pet food" companies. The important thing is that we are improving Evie's diet now, and there is nothing to feel guilty about.

This office obviously has the best interest of your pet in mind and will be very helpful if you let them. Yes, I spent a little more money than I would have expected. But I value my pet's health and know that it is money well-spent.

The wellness exam was thorough and compassionate, the techs were excellent taking blood and urine. Evie even got a pedicure. They were sweet to her, complimented her many times, and let me go back with her to take samples. I'm beyond thrilled to have this new doctor in our lives, and can't wait to see the changes in my best friend when we switch her diet. Thank you, Dr. Fine and staff!!!

I took my cat here the first time to get a third opinion on my card teeth. I had taken him to a vet who said they needed to be removed due to infection and then a second who said he just needed his teeth cleaned. I took him here and they seconded the removal but also recommended a new diet. I tried the homemade cat food recipe they give and he improved drastically. People who hadn't seen him in months commented on how shiny and energetic he was. He's currently 14/15 and had been on this diet for 3/4 years. People still comment on how he doesn't look or act old and that he's so fiesty and happy. It's a process to make the homemade cat food but a couple hours is worth it for him. I'm very glad I came here because they have been extremely careful and considerate with my kitty.

Amazing! Knowledgeable! Beyond helpful. My cat is doing so much better on the suggested diet change. He is no longer throwing up, and he is eating foods that are applicable to his native diet. I have gone to numerous clinics that advise "prescription" canned food for "sensitive" stomachs, which did not ever help. Uniquely Cats is different. They actually helped. Go with an open mind. It can make all the difference in your beloved pet's energy and health.

Ultra Snobs! Exact quotes from the Overall Assessment by Jessica Fine, DVM:
Sherlock is a handsome but obese kitty
He's been eating crappy dry food for his entire life
He needs weight loss desperately
He also needs adult labs and retroviral screening
Switch to species appropriate diet imperative to his health

My two cats came in happy and healthy to get local vaccines as needed. They had inches-thick records and a recent thorough exam to pass international quarantine requirements. Instead I got a massive condescending lecture on carnivorous needs of cats and a lashing on not agreeing to extensive and expensive "wellness screenings" for hidden illnesses despite my clear history on their health, a thick packet on how to feed them properly. Clearly my kitty-parenting was not up to par with their high standards! If you are already all-in with their views on cat care you will likely find this office nicely decorated and well matched. If you simply want a straight-forward vet who will take good care of your cats health, keep them up to date on shots and not rip you off, this is NOT the place. My cats are healthy and happy. We came in for a few shots, not a luxury wellness cruise and lecture. The tech was awesome. We will be going elsewhere. They made it clear that would be their preference as well.

I ll try to keep this short and to the point.

I ll try to keep this short and to the point.

I met the people who work at this clinic, including Dr. Kern, at a vendor event in boulder and fell in love with the idea of a cats only vet in Colorado.

I also have no problem with the carnivorous diet for cats message.

But three things ruined this experience for me beyond any repair, and hurt even worse because I felt I had gotten to know the people I was taking my Kiki to.

1) I have never seen Kiki so traumatized or take so long to recover from any vet I ve taken her to, and she s been to four different vets as I ve moved a few times since then.

2) I only agreed to having bloodwork run on Kiki after asking if I could implement a payment plan, specifically saying can I pay 100-150$ a month for x number of months? They said absolutely, only to run the bloodwork and then bring me two third party credit card applications that required me to pay in full first. My bill was almost 600$ when I had been quoted at under 200 (I m being generous with both numbers). I am not someone who can afford to throw away money - this bloodwork was not necessary in anyway, and I feel like I made myself very clear about the circumstances under which I was willing to pay for it. But I felt railroaded by the doctor who supposedly cares more for cats and their owners than any other.

3. I never received the bloodwork results in my email. I received the confirmation for the appointment in my email so I know they have my information. I also received a confirmation phone call prior to the appointment. So I spent 600$ for nothing at all.

I don t mind being lectured about my cats health or receiving less than stellar news about how shes doing or how I take care of her - that s why I brought her to this vet. But this is bad business by any standards, I felt taken advantage of at the time, and now, months later, I feel like I actually got conned as I never saw those results.

I paid 600$ for a sluggish sedated cat who is now terrified of her cat carrier, period.

We just had an exceptional visit here. Our cat has never been this calm at an appointment, they indeed have a special touch with cats. If you have a cat, bring them here! The staff that really love and know how to handle cats. The waiting and examination rooms are calming and are designed for cat and human comfort. But the stars are there doctors--people who have devoted their whole careers to not only treat cats as a vet, but research car health to make all cats healthier. The biggest thing you get from here is that cat diets have such an effect on so many health and behaviour problems.

I've known Dr. Fern Slack for a while now as an absolute professional and knowledgeable clinician and her gentle and caring touch with her patients is profoundly evident in the way she treats her own four legged friends. My grandkids love their three feline companions, and I couldn t imagine trusting another Vet with their care. Happy to recommend Uniquely Cats!

Very friendly staff when I took my cat in for a checkup. Quickest check-in process I've experienced at a vet, with all waiting taking place in a separate room so my cat wasn't exposed to other pets. Very affordable too!

Amazingly knowledgeable vets here. Undiagnosed E. coli was diagnosed and treated when other vets missed it. The vet and staff educated us on cat dietary needs. The change in our cat after making diet changes has been quite surprising. When we needed to board her for the first time cat boarding ever, and it could not have had a better experience. The staff answered my many questions. Mary let me set up my cat s condo and gave me an update when I called. My cat received her meds daily and was well cared for. Thank goodness for Uniquely Cats!

My dearly loved cat Beemer was seen today for the first time at Uniquely Cats. Upon entering the beautiful facility I was greeted by a wonderful staff and was offered a variety of refreshments. This facility is like none I ve been to nor seen over the years.
Beemer was seen by the most compassionate and knowledgeable Dr, Dr Fern, who had so much knowledge and insight on vital issues never discussed with me before at any veterinary clinic I ve been to in the past. She is an amazing Dr that opened my eyes to the importance of feline diet and cat nutrition. I can reassure anyone that is looking for someone you can trust for the very best care and love for your cat, please call the outstanding staff at Uniquely Cats. The information and all around staff care that was received today was above and beyond.
