Boise Hunter Homes Review

We have been beyond pleased with our purchase of our home. During the construction process we were fortunate enough to work with Truely. She was amazing. While no construction project is without minor items that occur, Boise Hunter Homes, and Truely specifically, handled everything well and kept us informed.

Our house has been amazing. We enjoyed working with the Boise Hunter Homes team and I have no hesitation recommending them to anyone looking to build a home.

This review is approx. 10 months after the fact. We felt compelled to write this review as we believe that Boise Hunter Homes (BHH) has not altered their sales/business practices. We intended to buy a newly built home w/BHH, but fortunately BHH defaulted on the purchase agreement. We were the 2nd buyers to sign up in the Timber Square subdivision. The entire process was arduous, beginning w/their sales rep, Natalie, who made the option selection process confusing and complicated, consistently laying down obstacles making achieving a home we wanted much more difficult, even though she said it was a custom build.



A 2nd issue was RE exterior paint color. We found the color far more green in tone than expected. BHH confirmed the color listed in the Spec Sheet was the same as what was on the house. However, it differed greatly from the BHH website listing which was more blue in tone. When we asked to have it painted to reflect the color on the website, we were informed we should not rely on any info on the website as the website designer posted incorrect info. When we mentioned that the 1st home built (next door) was painted a different color than on the website, they stated that house was accidentally painted a different color .

A 3rd issue involved carpet installation. The carpet was installed well before construction was complete, resulting in several carpet stains of dirt/mud tracked throughout the house by various subcontractors. The foreman, Gus, stated the carpet installer was scheduled to install carpet on a date certain. However, he had an opening the week before and simply decided on his own to install the carpet. It appears to us the carpet installer was never given a revised install date (as the construction was running about a month behind schedule) and, therefore, installed it on the original date.

RE the front porch columns, a lot of time had passed w/no corrective measures taken; we were growing increasingly concerned about the lack of progress. Finally, Justin, Dir. of Operations for BHH, offered us two choices: 1) Seller defaults; all monies returned to buyer due to BHH s unwillingness to correct their mistake RE front porch columns; or 2) Accept BHH s modified structure of the front porch columns. It was clear BHH was confident we would choose Option 2, inasmuch as we had invested many months of time, effort and money in waiting for the house to be built, and would have no other option but to accept the property as is . We chose Option 1 because we could not accept the significant alteration in design of the front porch columns and, fortunately, we were not in a position of desperation. We believe other buyers have not been as fortunate.

We hope this review can serve to help unsuspecting buyers of BHH-built homes who can fall prey to BHH s business practice in waiting until a homebuyer is in a bind (having sold a home; lease termination; purchased appliances, etc.) where the buyer feels they have no choice but to accept a home built NOT to their satisfaction. Buyer, be VERY careful w/Boise Hunter Homes and beware.

Love the high quality of Boise Hunter Homes. My parents just bought a gorgeous new home in Sky Mesa and their agent Truely Loescher was fabulous! She went above and beyond to make their experience enjoyable and seamless!! Highly recommend Truely and Boise Hunter Homes.

Very very bad customer service. We initially logged issues in the portal, it took months for them to reply (after we sent multiple emails to follow up). Some of the minor issues were eventually fixed but major issues remained. Then one day, we just couldn't log in our account. We contacted them and they said there was a system update and we should be able to log in the next day. But it never happened. We finally gave up and try to contact BHH rep by emails.

Two major issues:

1. Similar to the other review, the concrete floor in the yard and drive way peels off badly after this winter. The rep came and said that we shouldn't have used salt to melt the ice in winter. I said we did use salt at the front door but not at the area that had peeling issue. Then said they will look at it but no feedback after that. Every time we contacted them and asked for an inspection (we gave them permission to enter the yard for inspection even if we were not at home), they said it would be done the next day and then nothing happened.

2. The hard wood floor is making noise every time we walk on it. When we first contacted them about the issue, they quickly replied it was because of temperature change without even looking at the floor. Eventually the floor contractor came and replaced two pieces but didn't fix the cracking noise at all. The answer was "give it some time and it will recover". Now it's been more than a year and the noise gets even worse. I'm not an expert but the floor installation seems to be poor. There are gaps or bumps in between. We may contact the floor contractor one more time but if they refuse to provide any actual help, we may just give up and fix it by ourselves.

We didn't expect a new home will have issues like this. And the poor customer service makes the whole experience even worse. I'd rather they say "this is none of our business" than "we will look at it" and then nothing happens. We will never buy houses from BHH again and won't recommend it to anyone we know. I don't even feel that they deserve 1 star. This has been a very disappointing experience. We have had warranty issues that have been reported multiple times over months. Hunter homes has deleted our ticket claims or closes them out without addressing them. They have now decided to completely lie and ignore us along with neighbors. I'm sad to to report this after being so excited to buy our home. I will be reporting them to the BBB.

Jace Skyles was wonderful to work with when we built a new home with Boise Hunter Homes in Harris North. Jace does a fabulous job of making sure everything goes smoothly for buyers throughout the entire building process. We are pleased that we could customize all of the finishes and the new home is a beautiful, high quality home. We had a very positive building experience thanks to Jace!

My husband Greg and I have been working with Truely to build our new home. She has been extremely attentive, responsive and professional. Truely has been amazing from our very first contact. She has gone out of her way to ensure we have all the information and answered all of our questions. Her follow up is impressive and she has made several suggestions that have been very helpful. We recently purchased a Boise Hunter home in Harris and can t say enough what a great experience it has been. We have purchased several new homes prior to this and hands down this is the best experience we have had. Victor was a pleasure to work with and Kyle and Gus have followed up on all of our minor concerns. Amazing! From the moment I called to inquire on the property John was there for us! He met us there, made my clients feel welcome, took the time to listen to their wants and needs, then he informed us of all of our opinions and with the process. John is a true professional! Not only would I bring more clients back to work with him without hesitation but I always recommend him to my colleagues!

Logged a problem with our new home. Met with BHH rep where we agreed to a solution and a date for the correction. BHH did not respond as agreed to and even deleted the repair request from my account on their website. Requested service again and they did not respond. Look elsewhere for a new home.

Although it has been a tough experience, I have faith David and BHH will deliver a good home. Reading previous post made me a bit nervous, but every time issues have come up during the process, BHH has addressed them. I know things will go wrong simply because it is a home and after owning four previous homes, we know things happen. It is a shame that shady contractors have the upper hand right now. I can't wait to see the tide turn and I hope BHH remembers the disloyal shady contractors that took advantage during the boom. Not saying all the contractors, because some have been awesome, just the sketchy, trying to get rich on others back contractors.

Our experience with BHH was a roller coaster ride. On the sales side, their models are top notch and really do represent the final product that customers are expecting when touring their model homes. Our first interaction with BHH was through John Chandler. He helped us with everything from floor plan design to selling our existing homes in preparation for our new one. We had very specific things we were looking for in a home and John was very patient with us during that entire process. He helped us find a plan that met 80% of our requirements and then helped us modify the plan to achieve everything we wanted.

Since this was our first custom home, John walked us through many decisions that we could not have made without his expertise. Sometimes we didn t understand side-effects of decisions we were making with the plan at which time John would not hesitate to let us know when we were going down a path that was problematic. He recommended options we didn t even know we had and really made us feel confident in the decisions we were making.

After we committed to building, John was instrumental in helping us sell our two existing homes. He came out an evaluated each one of them which resulted in a checklist of things to do in order to get top dollar for each home. He even provided a list of contacts for people who could help us fix a few issues. His efforts led us to sell the first home for full ask in the first week and the second home for full ask on the first day. In both cases, he aggressively priced our homes in the upper price range (he even had a professional photographer shoot the home). Needless to say his efforts allowed us to put thousands of more dollars toward our new home.

The selection and build process with BHH was, to be completely honest, a bit sketchy. First off, selections is too restrictive. Jill is great to work with, but BHHs policy of only providing two days to select everything in your home is not enough time and there is not a lot of room for error down the road without being charged for it. This is an area where I hope BHH improves.

While I realize no home is built without some issues, our home was riddled with delays, that in my opinion, were mostly related to improper planning and lack of onsite supervision when work was being done. With so much time spent waiting for architects and designers to approve plans, it baffles me that we had major issues with such fundamental things like driveway grade. We had an RV garage added to our plan, but the grade of the driveway was so high that even the concrete guys refused to pour the concrete. The grade would have prevented us from putting anything into the RV garage because it was so steep. This was a huge issue that caused the existing foundation to be partially removed, redesigned, and lowered.

I won t go into how many side effects, delays, and floor plan changes this type of issue caused, but suffice it to say we almost walked away from the home. That s when John came in and provided a creative solution that didn t take away from what we originally wanted and actually gave us a mini-shop in the garage. BHH agreed with the plan changes recommended by John and bent over backwards trying to make it right by us. There were a lot of decisions that had to be reviewed and BHH was receptive to all of them. Many of those decisions added cost to the build which BHH absorbed. They also put Daniel Mace and Austin on our home while allowing us to have daily interaction with them to fix the communication issues.

In the end, we ended up getting our dream home and, in many ways, it turned out better than we expected. BHH surprised us by putting in a grand entrance to our home with retaining boulders and even paid to apply a finished concrete pattern up to the doorway. So while we had a lot of issues and delays with the build, BHH made it right and made us feel good about the final product. We enjoy the sky mesa community every day and feel lucky to live in such a quality home.

We moved into our home September 2017 and it is truly our dream home. The building process had major ups and downs but overall the construction team delivered a beautiful product. Weston was very attentive and truly went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable with the process and schedules. Austin and David also helped calm me down when my anxiousness would get the best of me. We all think we know how something should be done so my best advice is to let the experts do their thing and stay out of the way. Once we moved in Daniel really worked hard to ensure all our little remaining items were completed in a timely manner even going above and beyond like installing a door stop on my garage door which has become one of my favorite things. Today Weston went out of his way to ensure a pending item was taken care of at no charge and stayed until the job was completed which really meant alot to me. Again we all know building a home is stressful but from the amazing Sales Associate (Chuck Rosco) to the talented Design team to the hardest working construction team I would highly recommend buying a Boise Hunter Home to anyone who asked. My only negative comment is to BEWARE of the landscaper . If you have a choice to use anyone else besides Sky West - TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY. The work is generic, every yard looks identical and we were told one thing then the day before our VA inspector was due to complete the final inspection , Ryan the landscape owner called me demanding $3K more. At the end of the day I have a BORING yard that looks like everyone else with crappy sod. I will be having this torn out and done right in the spring and the $18K we spent is a loss. SO lesson learned- DO NOT TRUST SKY WEST LANDSCAPING FOR YOUR landscape needs.

My family purchased a home from Boise Hunter about two months ago. The quality of the product as well as the service have been amazing. Truely is amazing. She is very passionate about her job and made sure we were completely satisfied. Her professionalism and knowledge is unrivaled. The decorator, Jill, made picking our selections enjoyable while ensuring everything we picked out will work together. Together, this is a formidable team. A team I would gladly work with again. Our first experience with BHH was not great we loved the house but the girl agent Truly didn t give us the time of day and then dismissed us by acting like her personal meeting with a friend was more important than a live customer who was ready to spend a half a million on a house. We left disappointed!
Fast forward a week and half later we went back and this time it was John Chandler, what a breath of fresh air. He took all the time we needed and escorted us through the models asking what we really cared about, if it were not for him we would have definitely scrapped the BHH option! If you want the other agent to care or in our case care as much as our agent did then he is a great choice. Honest and responsive. We would use him in the future based on his expert customer service and that is the sign of a great agent!

We've now been in our Harris Crossing home for 18+ months and the neighborhood and the home are exactly what we expected and what was promised. We had very few warranty issues after a year and those we did have were resolved quickly and completely. victor Wilson in sales was excellent and very professional. We had built a home previously (in another state), but this experience was above and beyond that one!

The attention to detail in the house was very evident. Out experience with the broker John Chandler was top notch. It s only like 2 month since I moved in. And my range hood is starting tearing apart. However the warrant process works pretty well. They send someone over the same day I put in the ticket and the issue has been addressed.

We've been impressed with every part of our process with Boise Hunter Homes. From the beginning, the sales staff has been excellent to work with. Even when there were the expected hiccups, the agents pushed to help us with solutions.
They've been really good with communication and have done well to address any concerns that came up. We're incredibly happy with our new home and can't wait to move in.

BUYER BEWARE. 18 months into our $500k purchase and have been dealing with issue after issue the entire time. Everything from cracking concrete and drywall to multiple paint issues to framing, siding, and roofing issues. Some since closing and we are now to the point where we are $10-15k on the hook to fix the remaining issues ourselves. I urge you to not close, no matter how much pressure is applied and guarantees are made, until 100% of your issues are addressed. We will now be replacing a driveway that is breaking apart at every control joint and currently has 4 major cracks after less than 8 months. These concrete issues do not appear to be unique after seeing many others in the Boise area with BHH homes dealing with the same problems. Be very diligent about getting contractors that have done work on model homes you have looked at, it appears contractors are hired at random (maybe lowest bid?).

We know BHH can produce a very high quality home, we saw several when looking at their models and deciding on a builder, we just seem to have gotten the short end of the stick on a Foreman and contractors for our home. Maybe they have outgrown their ability to focus on quality and are now moving to quantity instead? Many items were fixed over a 12-18 month period after scheduling appointment after appointment, sometimes people would show up, sometimes not. Often we were told of a painter or other contractor that was no longer being used due to issues, not much solace for someone that has spent a half million dollars on what they thought was a high quality home. Even after a BHH hired Engineer stated our concrete control joints were not cut to standard depth, likely causing driveway cracking, no action was taken to remedy the problem. Now we cannot get any communication at all (email, phone, and even sent a letter to Mr. and Mrs. Hunter as a last resort attempt), I guess they have moved on to increase their build volume and not address the major issues of their next high paying customer.

Their design and pre-build team is second to none. Some contractors such as cabinets, tile, and granite were outstanding, couldn t have been happier with the way a few of these things went. Unfortunately, overall, it is the worst experience we have had with any purchase of any size. Smartest thing we could have done was walk away, as red flags started to pop up. Now we are left spending thousands to fix known issues, in addition to the hundreds of thousands we spent on a Boise Hunter home.

The Summit model at Dry Creek is beautiful. Loved the upgrades! Nice friendly sales staff and beautifully appointed model homes. Worth a look!

Boise Hunter does beautiful , high quality work and we are so happy with our home! Austin took care of all the details to be sure our home will be perfect when we move in . He worked well with my inspector and was conscientous and diligent regarding preparing the home for move in.

We built our home July-October 2015. Our experience with Boise Hunter Homes was and is positive, extremely positive. Our realtor, Chuck Rosco, did wonders in the process, as well as the Boise Hunter staff and our Building Superintendent, Garrett Short.

Yes, things came up along the way, but realizing a home build is a living, breathing experience with many moving parts; we would report them to Chuck and Garrett, and things were fixed. Our build was a while ago when building was much slower. There is a lot of activity currently in Henry's Fork! Our warranty items were and are continuing to be done well.

We love our floorplan (Sanctuary) and are very happy with our home. We continue to have great interaction with Boise Hunter Homes staff and subcontractors. We would and have recommended building a home with Boise Hunter Homes in the past two years to many of our friends and anyone who asks!

This company is a joke. Warranty issue after warranty issue. Takes forever to get them fixed and when they do it s half assed. Your better off building with Hubble homes. Most of the neighbors experience the same issues. Pretty sad when you have to rip out a driveway three times or sections of drywall numerous times or rip off the roof because it wasn t put on rite. The list just goes on and on. Build with someone else!!!

I can't say enough great things about the service level we received from Victor and Kim. Through every part of the process they were both so accommodating and fantastic to work with. From the first day we walked into the model until the day we closed, we were in good hands every step of the way. Their communication skills were both flawless and prompt. We never waited long to hear back on anything as they were on top of things throughout our entire home buying experience. Even after we closed and moved into our beautiful new home they have been such a resource for us on all things Boise related. Again I cannot illustrate what good hands you are in when dealing with Victor and Kim. They are true professionals in every sense of the word and we could not have asked for a better home buying experience.

Poor oversite on subcontractors and little to no follow through. Warranty and customer care team takes forever. Not what I would expect from a homebuilder in this price range. There are much better builders in Harris Ranch.

I purchased a Boise Hunter Home in June of 2012. We love our home and have only had a few small (typical) issues that they had to come back on. They always responded immediately to my requests. They also helped me work with the landscape company on an issue that they (the landscape company) would not resolve. In the end, BHH got them to fix the problem. Boise Hunter Homes builds some of the most beautiful, quality homes in the valley. If I build another home here, they will by my first choice. I highly recommend them.

We can t say enough about Truely Loescher! She s incredibly knowledgeable, kind, courteous, professional, and honest. She has made our building experience excellent. She takes care of business promptly, and well. We trust Truely completely. Highly recommend her!

The building process was daunting at first but BHH does two things that dramatically streamline the process:

(1) As a buyer, you know that building a home will include significant hiccups. To help address this, BHH assigns a representative who works with you through the entire process. Our representative, Truely Loescher, zealously helped us coordinate with BHH and their subcontractors. When issues arose, Truely was an effective intermediary and we found BHH to be fair. We spoke with Truely so often and she did such a wonderful job that we now consider her a personal friend. Thank you Truely!

(2) One of the biggest risks with building a home is having the price and timeline creep/expand as you build. BHH's two-day selections process addresses this issue by setting a firm target for both the builder and buyer. The designer, Jill, who is responsible for BHH's beautiful models, guided us through the selections process.

We are thrilled with the final result.
