I have a really specific body type. I found that I am in between a 40R and a 42R jackets size. A 41R does not exist. Going custom was the way to go. I was very pleased with how the suit came out. It fits like a glove.

Kevin and his team helped out. I am definitely getting another one. Now that I already bought my first suit, the 2nd suit purchase becomes way more streamlined.

I purchased a suit from Black Lapel several weeks ago. Their website is excellent. I had an great purchase experience. The suit fits extremely well. I cannot yet speak to the construction as I've only worn it a few times but I am fairly confident that it will hold up well.

More importantly, the suit they made for me is absolutely great. Fits perfectly everywhere, very classic yet modern look, comfortable, quality fabrics, and nice detailing. Super glad I made my suit at Black Lapel!

The only small detail I had a slight "issue" with were the buttons. The first button is kind of untied and "ugly". I can't tell if it's a cheap button or it's just a faulty one, but I noticed and I wish I hadn't.

Still a 5-star place to get your custom suit! If I wasn't already in Argentina I'd ask the guys to replace that small button and they would definitely help me out there.

Great Fabrics at a Great Prices and most importantly a Great Experience... THE TRIFECTA! I used BL for my wedding tux and everyday suits and shirts... best overall value in NYC. hands-down.

This location has offered the best fitting experience I've ever experienced so far, and I've already tried Proper Cloth and Blank Label. Perhaps it's the combination of pricing and selection, but this location stood out to me at the conclusion of my appointment. My fit consultant was beyond polite and very friendly, getting me measured for shirts, jackets, and pants within half an hour. I left the store with a pair of shirts and three pants on the way. I don't expect them to fit perfectly the first time, since revisions for MTM clothing are usually expected. But I will consider Black Lapel first for my clothing needs in the future.

Excellent customer service. Nice variety of styles and fabrics. The price is reasonable compared to buying off the rack and geting it tailored.

Had a really great experience at the Black Lapel store in NYC and with the online customer service. I have several suits from Indochino and wanted a step up and had researched several companies and decided to take a chance with BL. I needed a suit/tux for my wedding and saw that they have premium materials like VBC. Marcus helped me and selected a limited production suit. Marcus is the MAN. He had wonderful suggestions and measured me PERFECTLY. When I came back in a few weeks, the suit fit SPOT ON. This was something I never pictured from a MTM store like this. No alterations needed at all. He has a great knowledge of suits, fitting, and overall great customer service.

I also requested through the online service to have this suit specially made to have full canvas and initially they said it could not be done because it was not part of their premium line but they were able to make an exception.

Overall, I would definitely return and get future suits from here and would recommend everyone to have MARCUS!!!

I bought my tuxedo for my wedding from Black Lapel (as did some of my groomsmen) and I have to say we're all extremely happy with the decision. First, the tuxedo fits me better than any piece of clothing I've ever worn. Second, working with the Black Lapel staff was extremely easy from walking in for the first appointment/fitting all the way through order entry and finally walking away with the tux.

Their customer service is very responsive to questions and helpful. I did quite a bit of research into how much a custom-fit tuxedo was going to cost and you won't find a better quality custom tuxedo at such a reasonable price anywhere else. They use Super 110's wool too. Thank you to the entire Black Lapel team!

Molly was professional and personable. This is the very first time I had a custom suit made for myself, she did a great job from beginning to end. After the first try which didn't come out the way it should've (the jacket mainly) Molly made sure it was done right the 2nd time around. She followed up with me and kept me in the loop. Her suggestion after the issue arose the first time regarding the jacket, was spot on and she made it work. Everyone else at Black Lapel was polite as well, it was a good experience and I would definitely do business with them again!

Black Lapel is the best custom suit maker. When it comes to quality and fit, nobody does it better. I recently got the Mohair Blend tuxedo and broadcloth shirt for my wedding and both came out perfectly. Incredible customer service as well. Can't wait to get a suit from Black Lapel.

It's been a pretty strange experience getting outfitted through the COVID pandemic, but everyone has been extremely professional and helpful, even through Zoom fittings. Extremely happy with my suit and looking forward to my next one.

I have weird measurements. With another MTO company, I had to go through several iterations before the clothing fit well. With Black Lapel, they pretty much nailed it on the first try.

Bought a midnight blue tuxedo for my wedding. It was nearly perfect -- needed a little tailoring (like any suit) and they reimbursed me for it immediately. Now it's actually perfect. Really happy with the tux and looking forward to the next time I need to buy a suit.

This place is incredible, great prices, great service. They take pride in their work and you can tell they enjoy it. I bought a suit for my wedding, perfect fit, and it was delivered quickly, they also do nice custom touches to the suits. Would recommend them to anyone looking for a custom suit. No disappointments in any way.

Took waaay to long BUT in the end was worth it. Suit had to be remade and altered more than once. No I didn't spend 1000 on a suit but they treated me as if I did. I will go back and do recommend them and after a long process the suit and service are OK. Edit: After wearing the pants that were altered twice for the first time..... Still not right. I'm tired of going back and forth so I think I try and dind a local tailor and suck up the cost. Edit: justin was overly concerned that I was not 100% satisfied that he made sure to personally contact me and get it right. They nailed it. I will be going back.

Props. Had issues early on with promised delivery times, however I have received impeccable service and the suit arrived much earlier than promised. Fits perfectly, out of the box.

Unfortunately, I did not receive a good fit on my suit. First try was extremely tight all around so either the measurer or the tailor made a mistake. They remade the jacket which came out good on the second try, but the pants, they tried to alter. Second attempt was better but still not that comfortable. Unfortunately, there is not enough material to do much else with them now.

The suit quality is good but the fitting process was very disappointing. Will look elsewhere for my next suit.

BL is FANTASTIC. I have 12 suits, and I have found the materials to be on par with some of the most prestigious makers in the world (formerly wore Southwick suits, mostly) and the construction is second-to-none. Combined with fantastic customer service and pricing that doesn't nickel and dime you for everything creates a fantastic value.

I've purchased several suits and shirts for work from Black Lapel. The process is great and the quality, fit and price of the clothes is exceptional. I prefer a modern fit that is appropriate for the office at a large financial services firm. Chris understood my needs and helped me select the cuts and fits that Black Lapel offers. Even better than the quality of the fit is the style advice that comes with the service.

The process is painless. Chris took many measurements on my first visit, which lasted about an hour and included a little brown liquid to help me manage through. Approximately 4 weeks later, I tried my new suit and shirt on. Chris fine tuned my measurements and identified the appropriate alterations. The alternations were finalized about two weeks later. I then ordered another suit, some additional suit pants and many shirts. Since my measurements are stored, I can order online as necessary. However, I will periodically make appointments to see Chris in person so that I can see/touch the clothes, especially the newer offerings, and get some style advice.

Great service and company - the suits are cheaper than comparable, off the rack suits that do not fit as well.

I was a bit apprehensive about buy a suit online but after seeing the reviews, the abundant choices and reasonable prices for a custom suit, I decided to give it a try. After submitting my measurements, Black Lapel contacted me to remeasure a few areas that they questioned. This made me nervous but I remeasured myself and submitted the revised measurements. Obviously somebody was on the ball at BL. I was still a bit dubious about buying a suit online. The suit was for my daughters wedding so it was kinda important. When the suit arrived, I was afraid to try it on. Haha But after two days had passed, I opened the box and tried it on. I was absolutely amazed at how well the suit fit. Besides a minor adjustment to the jacket, it was perfect! And with BL s credit for tailor service, the tailoring charges were covered! I have to say that once I initially ordered the suit, BL s customer service was outstanding! Always replied in a timely fashion and guided me through the process. I ve bought many high quality suits in the past and I would rank BL s quality right up there with the best. I was initially skeptical of getting a tailored suit online, but ended up being impressed at every step of the process. Most important, I'm super happy with the suit (light blue linen)--high quality materials, workmanship, and fits as well (or better) than any suit I've owned. (My previous suits have been from Brooks Brothers, Macy's, and Men's Wearhouse.) Regarding the fit, I partly credit the extensive but clear instructions on how to get proper measurements at home.

Also important, the customer service was top notch. When I contacted Black Lapel with concerns about the initial measurements, they were super responsive and talked through possible tweaks. Then, after the suit arrived and there were some minor fit issues, they rapidly scheduled a video meeting to see first-hand what the issues were. Black Lapel provided expert suggestions on the necessary alterations, which I then took to a local tailor to implement. And true to Black Lapel's stated policy, there was no hesitation about reimbursing the $75 alteration charge from the local tailor.

All in all, highly recommended!

This group is nothing short of amazing. The communication from the customer service team is unquestionably the best I've ever dealt with. The product itself looks great and gives me the comfort and confidence of knowing I don't have to worry about my clothes not fitting, because they were made just for me. And at this price point, it's well worth the wait to have an item made that fits you perfectly for the same price that you'd pay for something off the rack.
As with anything made-to-measure, the first item is likely going to need adjusting. My first shirt came in a little long in the sleeves, even though we had measured three times (with three different results). I took it to my tailor, he corrected it, I sent in the adjustments along with the receipt and BL covered it. They truly do want you to look and feel the best you can. I can't wait to place my next order.

Once I bought a custom suit at Black Lapel, I've never gone back to an off the rack suit. The company is phenomenal. Suits fit extremely well. The staff is passionate, knowledgeable and friendly. I recommended Black Lapel to any guy wanting a sharp look!

I recently got a Tuxedo from Black Lapel. It has been frustrating.

1) The tuxedo's front button tore off my suit within 1 hour of wearing it, and was torn without any kind of major movement on my part. I had not even made it to the dance floor of the wedding I was at. I am now concerned about the quality of the entire garment as this was quite shocking.

2) When I picked up the Tuxedo, they forgot to put my tuxedo shirt among the garment, so I had to make a return trip to pick it up again.

3) The custom shirts aren't even custom, mine has shirt darts instead of tailored fabric.

Stay away from this place. It looks nice but the quality is cheap.

Value is incredible. I have a difficult time finding off the rack suits that fit well even after tailoring.

Black Lapel's customer service is amazing. My first jacket didn't quite fit right in the shoulders, I sent pictures to the online concierge and they diagnosed the problem immediately and remade my jacket. My subsequent suits all fit like a glove.

I ordered a tux and a suit from Black Lapel. Both fit very well, with very minor alterations needed once they arrived. Very high quality.

Ordered a custom suit and shirt from Black Lapel. My fit profile was a bit outside the norm so they requested a couple remeasures and front/profile/back photos. Throughout the process they were very responsive (replies back in a few hours max). Items arrived on time and only had a couple minor fit problems. Took them to the tailor and had them adjusted and now they fit perfectly and Black Lapel picked up the alterations bill for me and updated my profile. Now I have a perfect fit profile for future purchases. Suit and shirt look amazing and seem to be good quality too. Very pleased!

Amazing customer service, great suits, love the online interface

This isn't the first time I've had a suit custom-made, but this is the first time that I'm buying one online. To my pleasant surprise, I'm loving my BL suit more than any other I've had. The suit material is definitely top-notch. Except for the stomach area where it could use a half inch to a full inch of reduction, the rest of the fit is impeccable. Quality, style, and fit: 9/10. Aside from those factors mentioned, customer service quality is equally important to me when deciding where to buy, especially since the transaction is online. Sometimes, it's difficult to convey ideas with just words, and thankfully, Hannah, from concierge, has been very patient with my every query and request. She made the whole process a very pleasant experience for me. What impresses me most is BlackLapel's attention to detail. I'm a bit of an OC and it was paradise that I was given complete control of the outcome of the suit. Again, it wasn't perfect, but the tiny imperfection with regards to fit is hardly noticeable. I'm very happy with my purchase and it is certainly worth every penny. I would be proud to recommend BL to anybody looking to upgrade his sartorial essentials. I will definitely get another one.

I've been a Black Lapel customer for over three years, and the company has consistently performed at a level of excellence that keeps me coming back. I began to shop there shortly before law school, and I chose the company because I was impressed by their donation of clothing to the nonprofit Year Up New York. Beyond that, I've found their staff are exceptionally good at their craft, that their suits leave me feeling like a million bucks, and that the compliments that I regularly receive from strangers are pretty good proof that it's not just me who has been blown away.

I've worn the suits to meet President Barack Obama; I've worn -- and will continue to wear -- the suits while working at a billion dollar law firm; and I suspect that I'll wear their suits for the rest of my life. While I've tried other companies while remaining a Black Lapel Customer, each fell short in some way, e.g. with measurements that were way off or manipulative sales tactics that I'm sensitive toward when shopping. No such issues with Black Lapel, and most recently I was impressed with how their team helped me complete orders in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic -- using one of their storage relationships to allow physical pickup at an address other than my own, and successfully shipping a later order to my home well ahead of schedule. I have and will continue to recommend this company.

Great value and service for the price. It didn't feel cut rate at all. The owners are genuine people who want to offer the best online MTM. If possible, get measured in person at their headquarters. Since they know how the measurements will be used, this will give the best experience. They also make suits for women and trans men who want a masculine cut, so that's a great bonus.

I chose Black Lapel for my first made-to-measure suit based on their suit options as well as their stellar online reviews. I was certainly not disappointed. It was a seamless experience - right from scheduling an appointment on their website to an impeccable measurement session (only the pants requiring minor tweaks) to the fitting session. Their staff are very friendly, down to earth and made me feel comfortable throughout the two sessions. (Kevin did the measurement session and Jennifer did the fitting; other staff members weighed in as well so it was extremely valuable from my standpoint)

I will be picking up my suit in a few days and can't be more excited. From just the fitting session I could tell the fabric and stitch were of high quality. Will definitely be using Black Lapel for my suits going forward.

Like many, my first suit did not fit quite right. I thought I measured everything according to the videos, but my jacket was too broad in the shoulders. Black Lapel remade the jacket, made some adjustments, and turned out great. I am pleased with the quality and fit of the suit, and the customer service I was provided. I would only caution customers to buy the suit well ahead of when you need it, because if you need a remake it will double the time it takes to get your suit.

For my wedding I decided to go with my first made-to-measure suit and ended up choosing Black Lapel over some of their competitors due to their more forgiving return and remake policy. I had read several reviews regarding made-to-measure suits that they often will not fit perfectly right out of the box and will likely require alterations and even possibly a remake. With this in mind, it was a no-brainer for me to choose Black Lapel because they would make alterations and remakes easy for me and it was definitely the right choice.

Aside from the suit coming out excellent, Black Lapels customer service was top notch and extended from help regarding fit/style/suit customizations, to alterations and remakes, and getting all of my groomsmen all set for their suits as well.

Can't recommend them enough for your big wedding day, job interview, or whatever occasion you may have that calls for an excellent suit.

After going through some of the reviews of this place, the typical experience seems to go like this. You get measured in the showroom. Several weeks later, you get your suit back and the sizing is way off. They then adjust it through altering or in some cases remaking it. In my case, they did alterations. In retrospect, I should have been more assertive and asked for a remake. Instead, I had trusted their suggestion that the alteration would be enough. The final product isn't terrible, but it's not a good example of MTM. In fact, I had to get more adjustments made by my own tailor. After spending $460+, several months of time, and back and fourth emails, I have a suit jacket that fits like an oversized glove. I can shell out more money for further alterations, but there's no fixing low arm holes.

Love my new perfectly fit suit from Black Lapel. I work in a high end sushi restaurant as manager and server. Black Lapel website are all for Men but I'm so happy they work with women as well.

Video/Virtual measurement: I've been contacted and video chat with Emmanuel using iPad. I thought it will be difficult in video but not at all! Emmanuel is super friendly and professional! Extremely professional! I don't know how to measure my body. My husband was helping me measure but we can't do it without Emmanuel's instruction, he guide us through every measurements. He's there constantly keep an eye on my measurement. He knows better what are the reasonable inches for my size (I'm a petite size Asian with a belly after delivered baby). My suit was perfectly fit after I put it on. All the length in arms, legs and other parts are just perfect! Thank you Emmanuel!

Price: Their price is very reasonable! I though a custom made suit will cost me an arm and a leg, I was surprised this high quality suit jacket and a pant only cost $699- Teal Birdseye Suit (free shipping and no tax). I used to buy Hugo Boss women suit jacket, it already cost me $600 and I only wore it once because some areas don't fit.

Quality: I tried it on, it is very comfortable! Very high quality material. I live in San Francisco, this material is perfect for all year long here and in restaurant. Breathable material which is not too hot and can prevent too much AC in the restaurant. I'm very satisfied with the material and professional looking.

I went here on a recommendation from my cousin. I needed a tux for a black tie wedding and these guys nailed it. You set up an hour appointment where you are paired with a specialist. They take all of your measurements and photos of your stance, which makes for the perfect fit. Afterwards your specialist takes you through the entire ordering process, which is all online on their page so you can order more later with your exact measurements already saved. There's a showroom with every option available (be it on pants, shirts, jackets, what have you) on at least I've article of clothing so you don't have to judge based purely on online pictures. It does take around 4-5 weeks minimum waiting for the suit to arrive but it's totally worth it. They even do the first alteration free if there's anything that needs to be adjusted.

Great group of gentlemen who have been in the business for years and clearly have an eye for details. Very family oriented and definitely act and feel like it as well. Great ordering experience with black lapel. Suit quality is very good (tailor agreed). Having your own concierge through the process is very helpful. They make good on there guarantee, I had to have a pair of pants remade due to fitting issue and they took care of it. Highly recommend!

I'm updating my review based on a few more interactions with this business. In essence, Black Lapel can only accommodate an extraordinarily narrow range of body types; it's made to measure in name only. They use Chinese factories to make their suits, which do good work sometimes, but it's very hit-or-miss. If Black Lapel introduces errors in its sizing or production, it's the customer who bears the consequences. For a company that advertises that they will remake anything that isn't correct, it's remarkable how difficult (read: impossible) it is to actually get them to follow through on this.

If you care about a really good fit, you'll need to go elsewhere. For everyone else, you can get an equivalent product for a lot less money by going to SuitSupply and using a good tailor.

ordered a pair of pants two months ago, I was just amazed when I received the product, wondering how come they could make such perfectly fit trousers with only the few numbers I put in, which i wasn't even sure if I measured my body properly.

For those of you who prefer a more tapered cut, I suggest you contact the customer service after you place the order, as the default cut is more classic/conservative.

Although I have had minor issues with my suit, and the concierge service may have taken a little longer to get back to me, it is the end result of the overall customer service that builds my confidence in your company. As I look to rebuild my wardrobe, I want to work with people that are thorough, and willing to make sure that their customers are satisfied. From everything I have seen, you do that!

Wonderful customer service. Suit was fitted very well and looks sharp. For the given prices and occasional deals, the suits are a great long-term investment to make in yourself. My first purchase was a Baltic Blue Fresco Suit and it won t be my last.

So after doing some research I chose to have my wedding suit made through black lapel and went in for a consultation. All throughout the year I lost a lot of weight around 80lbs for the wedding and all my clothes were swimming on me. I wanted to look the best I could for that day and for my fiancee (now wife). I walked in and was thoroughly impress by their office and the way they treated me. They walked me through everything. Cloth, fit, measure etc etc. I will definately be here again. Thanks guys.

If one can measure their body the way Black Lapel's algorithm needs, it is an amazing way to get quality suit. And, the amazing thing is the fit pretty much Bespoke-made! I am not an average proportioned individual. I typically wear a size 50 jacket and a size 40 waist, but my thighs and hips/butt need a size 44 waist to fit around them. So, I always have to buy off the rack suits, then take them to the tailor for adjusting. Black lapel is able to create a suit to fit me absolutely perfect! No excess material and no folding.

My experience was the same as many other reviewers. I purchased the Navy 3-piece. My first suit didn't come out anywhere close to correct. I think they assume that everyone gives themselves a skinny waist so they add an inch to whatever you put in the measurements. Tried tailoring but still wasn't able to get it where it needed to be. I was a bit unhappy because I was a month out from my wedding and afraid that I just bought an expensive suit that I wasn't going to be able to wear. These guys really redeemed themselves though because when I asked for a remake, they did it without any extra charge and put a rush order on it so that it would get here in time. The final product looks great and the fabric is very high quality. My tailor kept saying how nice the suit was. // Now that we're past that initial hurdle I would gladly use them again for future suits and blazers. Kudos to their customer support team.

Within the last year, I have ordered from Black Lapel twice, and both times I have been satisfied with the results. They had a promotion at the time where they offered a basic colored suit, a shirt, a tie, and a handkerchief for a pretty good price. Before you place an order, they have these short videos that help walk you through the measurements process which is helpful, but I would recommend you take them a few times, preferably with someone to help you at least once. Also, I would recommend making an account. Sometimes, I noticed not all of the videos help you take all of your measurements, so setting up an account will at least allow you to look over all of the measurements before you submit your order. I had to change a few of the measurements because the algorithm put in a default measurement for things like my chest, bicep, and thigh size. I also think some of the suit measurements don t transfer to the shirt measurement, so that s something else to check before submitting an order. If you need to know where to find your measurements, go to the My Account in the top right corner of the webpage, click on My Measurements on the drop down menu, and you should see a light gray MEASUREMENTS section.

Anyways, once you place your order, they send you an email with your order details and the option to request their tailors to use your measurements and not make any adjustments. I sent a request to do this because I want to make sure that my suit fits exactly how I want it and I was confident that my measurements were accurate. Not long after, their concierge replied back, and they were really helpful. They go over any measurements with you that seem either too large or too small to make sure that the there aren t any errors when you input your measurements. My thighs are a bit big from the running and stairs climbing I do, so I appreciate Black Lapel s care and attention to detail to make sure the suit they make fits right. If you want to switch the style or color suit that is the same price, they are also able to accommodate. In my case, I changed my mind and switched from Midnight Blue to a Navy Blue suit since they were the same price as part of the promotion and I felt Midnight Blue was darker than I was looking for. So, I'm happy they allow you to make these modifications after placing an order.

After a month or so, I got my suit and dress shirt and it fit just as I wanted it to. The jacket fit perfectly around my arms and torso, and the pants had the thigh size and rise I wanted. Even the shirt fit pretty well. I liked my first order enough that I placed a second order for another suit and dress shirt when they were having a sale. Everything was around 5-10 % off, but their prices are already low and pretty reasonable that it s a pretty good deal. Now, I have two suits ready for interviews and social gatherings that I hope will last me for the next 4-6 years. Overall, if you re looking for a good fitting suit and willing to put anywhere between $500-800 (more if you go for their Savoy line) I d recommend Black Lapel. They saved me so much time and hassle that I wasted trying on off-the rack suits from places like Brooks Brothers, Men s Wearhouse, and Macy s. Just a personal recommendation: Black Lapel has the option to add a monogram on your orders for free. I'd recommend it if you confident your suit will come out the way you like it and you like personalizing stuff. I only did this on my second order, but I will probably be getting it more often if I order from them again.

No other online custom suit maker in the same price range, comes close to Black Lapel. Wonderful fabrics to choose from. Outstanding customer service. Many little features in the product that often go unnoticed unless you use it. The cut and fit is brilliant. Anyone who likes suits must have at least 1 from Black Lapel.

Short torsal, short arm big neck. Nightmare for any suit and shirt. Finally the shirts fit me and the suit is just fantastic
