Chef Eddie Huang seriously knows how to make a bao! The Chairman and the Birdhaus are my favorite menu items. It's also open late on weekends so it's always a perfect place to stop by if you get hungry while you're out partying.

Baohaus is my favorite spot for Baos hands down. The Baos here are delicious and they have a variety to choose from. They have recently renovated so I am not too sure how it looks now but before it was cool. Before they had little bao pictures with hip hop related quotes. The music was dope...all hip hop. The dudes here are pretty cool too :)
Insanely good. Small, but I've always found seating. This was the first place I ever had bao and it remains the best place, I've come back many times. Fried chicken bao was unique and really really delicious.
Very small location with comics and graffiti all over the walls. There is no AC here in the summer so beware. The portions are absolutely teeny for the price and not worth it. Food takes a long time to come.
If you're bringing kids do be careful as some of the comics on the wall can be vulgar.
Great food. The baos are good but relatively small...don't plan on filling up here. If you want to try a unique Asian fusion dish in a casual environment this place is worth a look
The Baos are absolutely amazing. The pork belly is very fatty and flavorful, the buns are soft and sweet, and there is a nice homemade spicy sauce on the side.
I love this place. Staff is super friendly and attentive. You can not go wrong with anything on the menu. Come early and get taro fries! But seriously come whenever and order EVERYTHING ON THE MENU
Eddie Huang is everywhere right now. You see him on Vice's "Fresh Off the Boat" and even on the NY Times Best Seller list. His pride and joy, Baohaus is a must try. They have really good Baos filled with juicy meat. When I stop by, I usually get the Chairman Bao. This consists of braised all natural Berkshire pork belly. It's Served with crushed peanut, cilantro, Haus Relish, and Taiwanese red sugar. Really damn good!
Best thing I've ever put in my mouth, honestly. Amazing pork belly, never had anything so good. Also got the spicy chicken, I almost got seconds but was full.
Came one day, told us they'd be open at 11:30 AM. Came back at 11:30 AM, said they'd be open at 12PM. 5 minutes later, they said they'd be open at 1:00 PM. Hard to find reliable hours on this place.
Came back the next day, got the Chairman Bao. It was good but our buns were cold (don't know if they're supposed to be). Wouldn't be worth an hour and a half wait, but if you're in the area you could check it out. Not worth going out of your way for.
If I could have one last meal, their pork belly bao would be it (not pictured because I ate it too quickly). It is literally heaven on earth and anytime my friends visit I take them here. 10/10
The pork belly was under cooked and tasted somewhat raw. The bun wasnt special, as well as any flavour. It was quitr a disappointment and probably won't come back again.
Really tasty little buns! Try the fried chicken bun. For two mini buns I paid $12 - I'm full but expected more for the price. This is a novelty food dive, smaller than a studio apartment. Based on price and limited menu, I wouldn't suggest this as a regular spot. But really tasty if you want to try an American spin on Asian style buns.
Absolutely amazing! I couldn't go past the General Bao and was not disappointed! I will definitely be back to try the other items, fantastic staff too!
Felt robbed for the first time since I'm in NYC. Total scheme. Two Bao's and a drink was 12$, add tip and you're still hungry with paying 15 bucks. Would never visit again.
A really fun place, but pretty expensive for buns that are creative, but of average quality. The flavors are great, but pork they use has too high a ratio of fat to meat imho. There are a few places nearby the have a better balance, but not as hip atmosphere. The choice is yours.
Baos are so good I would go there next time just for chichen bao and make it spicy. Pork is well cooked. Loved the ambience, music. Perfect takeout place or solo diner.
It's delicious!! Had the fried chicken bao, thought it was a weird combination at first but it turned out delicious. And I'm a complete sucker for pork belly anything! I wish ppl locked the bathroom door more often... s/o to my brother, the time we were in vn and a street vendor said, banh bao, banh bao day...
I've heard of this place from VICE and on Food Network, I'm so happy to finally try this place! I tried the first two items on the menu and it was fantastic, wish I was hungrier for more! Coming back, most definitely.
I brought the manager's meal but the rice is terrible to eat, there are uncooked rice so it really hard to eat, the only good thing is the red pork belly meat
This is the authentic Chinese food with an American twist that I've been waiting for. The Chairman Bao has the marbled pork belly that my Chinese grandfather has made for decades, wrapped in a perfectly white steamed bun. The taste is right on point with authentic chinese cooking, but the presentation is like mini sliders/tacos. At first, I thought $3.50 for a bao was pretty cheap but I will admit that you need 3-4 to fill you up.
This place is great! Yes, the buns are on the smaller side but the point of the menu is to order 4-5 different things and share and experience! The Taiwanese red sugar is freakin' delicious and genius! I love the spicy fried chicken.
Waited for 25 minutes for our order and found out they somehow forgot our order. Instead of giving us the order as soon as they could, they blamed us for not inquiring about the order earlier and refused to give a refund.
You know, I want to like it, I really want to like Baohaus. But for some reason, I just can't justify it. The high price, the long wait, the baos... They're just not that amazing, honestly. If I want overpriced baos, I'd probably just walk over to Momofuku Ssam Bar.
Not to mention their name puns one of the most influential modernist design movements in history and their store seems to serve little reverence to the actual philosophy of Bauhaus design. But now that's just me being picky.
If you grew up in a Chinese/Taiwanese household, you probably remember these gua baos. Pork belly, cilantro, and ground peanuts sandwiched between a flat steamed bread. Very popular and cheap street food.
Eddie Huang's baos are pretty good. We ordered the Chairman Bao (braised pork belly, Haus Relish, crushed peanuts, Taiwanese red sugar, and cilantro) and the Uncle Jesse Bao (organic fried tofu, Haus Seasoning Salt, crushed peanuts, Taiwanese red sugar, cilantro, and Haus Sauce). Chairman Bao was $4.05 and Uncle Jesse Bao was $3.55. All baos range between $3.55-7.55.
Both the Chairman and Uncle Jesse Bao were tasty. I was surprised at how good the Uncle Jesse Bao was and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a slightly healthier option. The size of the baos, however, are very, very small in comparison to the ones you can get on the streets of China or Taiwan. It's pretty much two bites for $4.
Limited seating in the back, very narrow entry. They also offer rice bowls, fries, and various drinks. I tried the Lang Lang (half lemonade, half Ten Ren green tea) and it was pretty good.
The chairman was pretty good, but expected more toppings. The pork belly was very tasty and soft, but the top layer was simply fat. The taro fries were overcooked and overpriced. I don't see myself revisiting.
OK let me be clear, the food is 5 star quality. It was just so good, the chairman Mao melts in your mouth for example. The reason I took a star off was the lady serving the less than 10 people in the place kept forgetting people's orders, eating their food before giving it to them, giving orders to the wrong folks, and to top it off looking super pissed at me as I tried to be understanding with her.
The cooks were really kind, efficient, and damn good at their jobs. All I can say is get your delicious food to go and hand your tip directly to them, they deserve it.
Tasted their coffin fried chicken bao at the Googa Mooga 2013 event. It is definitely not worth $10 for one bun with some fried chicken. They put overly condensed milk on the bun, and it really destroyed the taste. The condensed milk is supposedly mixed with chile, but no hint of spice at all. What a disappointment!
I consider this a perfect place for a snack when your walking around the city and want a quick bite to tie you over. Service is quick and there are tables in the back if you wish to sit but the baos are easy to eat on the go. I had the Chairman Bao which was very tasty. Fresh soft buns with a tangy sauce and a deliciuosly cooked pork. The cilantro and crushed peanuts added a nice accent. Fairly priced and very satisfying if you're looking for a quick bite and something out of the ordinary fare.
The pork belly baos were unreasonably good. If you have to wait to order, it's definitely worth it. I am sure the chicken and fish are great too but I couldn't pull myself from the pork belly. Superb.
Been here three times now and each time something happens to my order. Must be my luck... Trying to support Eddie Huang and his food but the consistent inefficiency is pretty weak. The first time in June, they ran out of supplies at 8pm and were waiting for a delivery of something, so we gave up. The second time in August my order was skipped over so I had to cancel it. Now, as I sit in my car after ordering online for pickup (hoping that this may change things) the guy tells me we re actually going to open at 12pm instead of 11:30. Three and out. Ippudo has some solid pork buns down the street if you wanna try it.
Cool spot with a big reputation. I wasn't a fan of the food personally -- everything was too sweet for me. I can see how the right target audience would love this place though. Worth trying for sure.
Overrated. Worth trying once, maybe, but it's nothing special. Also, this place has an air of pretentiousness to it...I was yelled at for not knowing what taro fries are.
Was here last weekend. Just wanted to clear up some info left by other reviewers. First, I had the pork belly bun and it was not small. It was actually pretty big, at least the meat was. I think some of the pictures on google represent pretty well what it looks like. That said, I didn't really find it edible. It was 80% fat. Now, I really like fat, but nice crispy fat that has been rendered some. This was just soft, gelatinous fat. This could be a preference thing, but for me I couldn't get it down. The people who worked there were very friendly and perhaps the chicken version is a better bet.
Food is okay. I got 2 orders the #1 and #3 on the menu. The combination for the dishes taste funny. The peanut makes 2 dishes taste too sweet to my liking.
Had the fish and a chicken bao I couldn't tell them a part. It's over fried and over priced. I would never recommend this place the staff is very rude as well
Food used to be great but they have become super inconsistent over the years. Buns are sometimes sublime and sometimes dry. Stop being stingy with the dessert bun syrups
I LOVE THIS SPOT! It feels like New York inside, embellished by graffiti, art, stickers and music! It is small and can be cramped on a busy day but on a chill night is a great spot to hang and eat. My favorite is the Birdhaus! I have been going for years and I always come out satisfied with the service and the food! Try the Apple Soda
Grabbed a tofu bao on vacation as an afternoon snack - super delicious. Definitely going to sample the rest of the menu next time I'm in NYC. Super cozy interior and some cool stickerbomb artwork on the walls.
I used to love this place, but it's become overrun with patrons and they can't keep up. I came in excited for my first bao in months, and it was cold! Still yummy, but a bit of a let down
Baohaus is a New York City Street food staple. Simple yet delicious food options combined with a great atmosphere. If you are in the neighborhood be sure to check it out.
This place was so amazing. Even though it was small it had so much character and the food was... Freaking bomb. I tried the fish, chicken, and pork.. I wish they had one where I lived I would eat it everyday!!!
One of my favorite places in NYC! Food is amazing! Staff are friendly. Open late-night. Always playing great mix of 90's hip hop. Definately worth trying.
