I don't remember ever having Taiwanese buns before, so this may have been the first. However, I thought that the buns were excellent and only $5 a piece. Pork belly and friend chicken buns were very good. So after I finished, I went up and I ordered two more. Eddie Huang owns the place, which is fun. Just go.

Limited seating but the food was delicious. I recommend the pork belly. I'd say depending on how hungry you are get two or three baos Decent prices. One weird this about it is that they do not accept cash, only card.

Never left a bad review in my life but this place has the nerve to plaster their walls full of stickers supporting liberal causes and even proudly exclaim everything is "cage and antibiotics-free" while being a CARD ONLY ESTABLISHMENT. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people living in this city with no access to a bank account or debit card, let alone credit card. Selling bao buns is not some exclusive, high end business that only operates with high-volume transactions and would benefit from not accepting cash, or LEGAL TENDER, for security reasons, nor is their business model based on supplying to other businesses, a situation where cards would be almost exclusively used. Moreover, the PEOPLE running this place are effectively demonstrating that the only reason they supposedly champion "smart consumerism" and social awareness is to attract business from liberal New Yorkers, while supporting classist (and statistically, racist, as most unbanked New Yorkers are non-white) segregation.

TL;DR These people are scamming you with their pseudo-liberalism while promoting classist and racist segregation.

The first place I ate in NYC and a go to when I need a quick delicious lunch. I recommend the rice bowl and bringing a sticker to post on their wall! The menu is small and the eating space is even smaller but it s worth the visit.

We went back two nights in a row. Tried all the buns, but regret not sampling the rice bowls. Missed the limited edition 4/20 Cheeto chicken buns by a matter of days. Taro fries on point. Excellent value. Open in London, please!

Absolutely love the food there. It was on the expensive side but the atmosphere and staff there was super chill. Music also gave a strong vibe about the place. I would visit baohaus every time I come up to New York.

This has to be the best bao I've ever had. Period. The vibe of this place is super cool too, lots of personality and stickers, exposed brick and low lighting. I got grass jelly lemonade, chairman bao, and birdhouse bao. The lemonade is made in-house and is really refreshing. The birdhouse bao was crispy and juicy, and the chairman bao was incredible. The pork melts in your mouth and is cut in big chunks and seasoned to perfection. I love that the bao come with peanuts and cilantro and are slightly sweet, it's SUPER Taiwanese. Personally (I'm half Taiwanese, half American), this place is freaking amazing because the Taiwanese food is authentic and the vibe is very American. I've never felt more at home!

I've been trying to try Momofuko for a while now -- I saw David Chiang's cookbook a while ago and drooled many a day over his gorgeous soft cooked eggs.

Finally got a chance to try on Friday night. We arrived around 6 and put our names down for a table for three. They don't take reservations, but you can leave your phone number. We only waited about 20 min.

I got the brisket buns and the Momofuko Ramen. The buns were good, but not my favorite. The Ramen broth was super smoky and delicious. Portion size was average as far as ramen goes. The egg was nearly raw and tasted pretty good stirred into my ramen. I have to say, I prefer the soy marinated eggs at Totto Ramen. Generous amount of scallions was appreciated!

Service was prompt and friendly. Fun place to grab a bowl of noodles, but try to avoid peak hours! The line was out the door by the time we left.

From the outside and inside this small place is a hole in the wall and feels dirty, however the food is damn good and very affordable, so don t let it scare you. I tried the spicy chicken and pork belly Bao and they were both fantastic.

The lemonade drink is really good, very refreshing. The pork belly Bao is very good too, but the fried chicken one is more fried than chicken. Overall pleased with the experience! Will come back again.

They are just the most delicious little snacks that I crave all the time. It tastes just as good as the gua baos they serve on the streets in Taiwan. They really are more expensive, but it is cheaper than a flight to Taiwan

Girl at the counter was the best part of my day! She was training someone and still took such good care of me! The atmosphere at this spot is amazing!! ORDER THE PANDA FRIES!!! My life is over. I can not express how amazing this was! This is NY. THIS IS NY!!!! Please support this place. We need this culture. Down to the distinctive signage in the tiny NYC restroom. This is the heartbeat of NY!!!

This hole in the wall place has great pork belly buns. The pork melts in your mouth and the buns were really soft. Good music selection too. However, seating is limited. One thing I really liked is that it is credit card only. Not often do you see that. Lastly, the baby rat lurking around seemed friendly but totally threw off my appetite and for that reason, I probably will not return

Not cheap for what it is, but overwhelmingly cool and the Chairman Bao (pork belly in a fluffy white bun) is my favorite. I also like the fresh soy milk and the fried bun strips with sesame and condensed milk.

Everytime I go to NYC Baohaus is a place i have to go. Their Chairman Bao has the perfect blend of savory, soft pork chop with sweet sprinkled peanut wrapped in a beautifully soft white bun. Would recommend as a dinner, snack, or any other time of day you feel like it.

Baohaus is one of those places I hate to love - the place is a mess with graffiti all over the walls and tables, the servers are too-cool hipster kids and the loud hip hop music blaring out the speaker makes me want to bash my head against the wall. But these aren't the things I go to Baohaus for - I go for the buns, in particular the Chairman Bao with its delicious sweet fatty pork, crushed peanuts and cilantro all housed in a pillow soft bun. Serving sizes are on the small side so you'll want to order more than one, and you have to try the taro fries.

The place is small but it looks interesting. I watch fresh off the boat so I was so excited to visit here!

This is my favorite place to get late night food (or really any time). The pork belly bao is a favorite of mine, but honestly everything here is incredible. They also have the coolest staff and always play great music.

The birdhaus and chicken bao were good but the chairman bao was exceptional! The pork belly was just delicious. The taro fries were also a lovely addition accompanied by a sweet, tangy, and mildly hot sauce.

Very small. We managed to get a seat. It's a BYOB venue. Pretty busy. Quick friendly service. Great music. Communal tables are the way here. We had the Chairman Bao, Spiceland Bao and a Friend Fish Bao. All of them were awesome. The favorite the bunch were the Friend Fish Bao although all 3 were great. Great flavors and just the right portions. Pick up some beer across the street and you'll be good to go.

I definitely do not think it's worth the price, this thing was super small (the bun was the size of 3 fingers put together lol). The taste was good and the flavors mixed well together. The guy didn't seem to be too into his job or making our food.

When I look at Baos is not something that I want to eat. But then I do, and it's the best thing ever! Place is small, there a few tables in the back but are hard to get. It might be better to get something to go.

I've been waiting to try this place since I found out about it. I've had bao once before and it was amazing. I decided to try it again but at Baohaus.

The place is very small and cramped but the food is so delicious that you forget about the fact that you are practically sitting on people's laps.

My friend and I shared 3 dishes and they were all amazing. Next time I go, yes there will be a next time. I will do take out. I can't wait till the place expand into a much bigger space. I will become a semi regular customer.

The food is merely OK. Way too much fat but the flavor is decent. The ambience is awful. Loud, angry rap music with explicit lyrics. Absolutely not friendly for a civilized lunch or families with kids.

Loved the taro fries and the sauce was delicious!! I got two of the tofu baos-- one spicy and one not. They were good, but the tofu needs more flavor. The tofu was cooked crispy on the outside though, so the texture was perfect!

One of my favorite places to eat period. Eddie Huang's vision is amazing and the food and atmosphere at this place is amazing. I recommend a chairman Bao and a Birdhaus Bao paired with a Chang Beer for maximum Bao Haus experience.

From the food, to the atmosphere, this is a fabulous spot and a must visit!

We ordered three 'slider-sized' buns and all three were delicious. The fried chicken had a crispy coating with succulent meat inside. The fish was fantastic. But the pork!!! The pork melted in your mouth, it was a large slice of pork belly and it was really juicy. The amount of filling that's packed into the bun is unreal.

Absolutely would go again and left wishing I'd ordered more.

Go

Oh guilty pleasure city. I'm a big fan of Eddie, so Baohaus could have easily disappointed, but it did not. The pork belly, the sticky sweet bread and crispy chicken combination. And those fries. Holy yes. Take my money.

If you're from out of town like me, and you're trying to get here, your best bet is to get off at Union Station. It's a couple blocks away. Also, it's a really small spot. If it's a nice day, order take out and enjoy the food elsewhere.

Service was quick and somewhat friendly. I ordered the pork belly and the fried chicken with a side of Taro fries. The pork belly was tender and delicious. The fried chicken was crispy and had good flavor. The buns were fluffy goodness. The Taro fries were okay, but you can't expect them to be better than French fries. We ordered a couple drinks and it was filling.

It's a little more money than I would like to spend, but the food is solid. It's definitely a place to visit whenever I'm in town.

Small crowded spot - a hole in the wall - but the food was great! Better than any Baos I could get in my city. I really liked the AiYu Jelly Lemonade (AiYu seed jelly, hand squeezed lemons, and rock candy) and iced Cold Green Tea they had, very tasty stuff, and are way better than typical soft-drink fare.

We had the Chairman and Birdhaus Bao - detailed below - and both were delicious.

The atmosphere of the place had a very hip-hop urban vibe to it, not a typical 'asian restaurant' vibe which made it unique.

I highly recommend this place, especially if you're a fan Eddie Huang on Vice, you can't go wrong. There may be slightly better, or cheaper eats in NYC - but Baohaus is a sure thing, and has a cool vibe.

Chairman Bao -
Braised all natural Berkshire pork belly served with Haus Relish, crushed peanuts, Taiwanese red sugar, and cilantro.

Birdhaus Bao -
All natural fried chicken. Brined 24 hours, served with Haus Seasoning Salt, lemon-garlic aioli, crushed peanuts, Taiwanese red sugar, and cilantro.

As a fan of Viceland s program Huang s World , I had to stop by culinary icon Eddie Huang s Baohaus. I grabbed a chicken bao, taro fries and a thirst quenching, Chinese apple soda as I feasted, sheltered from the rain. Cheap, fast and cozy. Love they were playing Prodigy (RIP ) at this infamous spot. Miss it already

BYOB shop with hipster cred serving up a few different types of baos. The Charmain is the classic and the Coffin Bao, which is made on something like torta bread with a syrupy sweet sauce, is probably the biggest departure. Both were good, though nothing to write home about. But if you love a little hip hop with your meal, then this is your spot.

LOVE the baos, especially the Chairman Bao with pork belly and crushed peanuts. Grabbing some baos with a chrysanthemum tea, as legit hiphop blasts in the background, is great at any time of day or night. I've heard good things about the rice bowl, must try asap.

Totally overrated!!! Expensive and didn't meet the standard at all! I definitely can find somewhere that's much cheaper and more delicious bao! Only came here once, and will be the last time for sure!

Extremely disappointed with this place overall. I was just there a few hours ago with my friend, and when we were paying we asked to split the bill. The guy at the counter was kind of rude and said so you re not paying together? in a snarky tone. When my friend and I finally sat down, we were seated near the bathroom door which WREAKED of weed. I kid you not. Our food arrived really quickly, and it was pretty good. However, the price of one tiny bao is more than $5 which I don t think is reasonable for such a small portion. It s a shame because it tasted really good. At one point of the night, we noticed that there was no staff in the store for a good 5 minutes, which is alarming given that there was something boiling on the stove with the absence of staff. (I actually got this on video) And to top it all off, my stomach feels weird and so does my friend s. What an actual shame.

I had the Sweet Bao Fries + Black Sesame glaze with an in-store made AiYu Jelly Lemonade. This place completely blew my mind. The Bao fries were sweet, but not to the point where they're overly sweet, they were made with the perfect mix of sweet and savory. This place is a must go if you so happen to be on 14th Street, whether it was with friends, or just getting a bite. 6/5, would rate again.

I avoided this place when I lived in New York because I thought it was just a cult of personality for Eddie Huang but I finally decided to go when visiting with a bao loving friend and boy am I glad I did. These are probably the best bao I've ever had. I got a Chairman Bao, Birdhaus Bao (spicy) and Fried Fish Bao and they were all delicious. The pork belly in the chairman bao was perfectly cooked - melt in your mouth tender without being too crisp. The chicken in the birdhaus was legitimately juicy and delicious even without sauce I would have enjoyed it. The taro fries as a side were also a smart choice - they work really well although the spice dust they put on top of them is a little overwhelming.

The space is definitely small and crowded but they have an excellent turnover so your food is always fresh. This is a must try for anyone visiting NYC who likes bao.

As a snack place, it's pretty nice. No cash, card only.

This is not a place for a full meal. But if you are looking for a fairly quick and delicious snack, this is a place to drop by.

My glutton self always go for the Chairman Bao because I like pork, but the chicken is pretty good too. I do like the Taro Fries and they taste great with or without the sauce.

The space is small and looks divey but, again, this is a place for snacking and not for long stays.

You enter a dark, dank place with graffiti-strewn walls, I guess this is "hip", to eat in a 1970's era subway car. To top it off, I was told no cash, only credit card. I walked out, leaving this "Milllenial" s-hole, never to return.

I'm a huge fan of Eddie Huang! After my friend told me this place is run by Eddie Huang, I decided to give it a try on a Saturday afternoon. The place is very small with probably 10(or less) seats; the waiting wasn't terrible and the service was really good. We ordered some fobby drinks, pork buns, mala chicken bao, and "chairman on the rice". I LOVE how creative he named all the food! My friend ordered "manager's meal", which was huge, it came with like two sides and rice. Everything was good; I was particularly impressed by their mala chicken(spicy chicken) and braised pork belly, so delicious!

On a bus trip to NYC, I split from my family to visit the Haus. Got one of each Bao so my daughter and I could share them. I walked about 7 miles on the day and got hit by a car on 9th avenue before I was able to meet up with my family and enjoy my order. Worth... Every... Step... (and bruise) If you miss this food adventure you've wasted your time in NYC.

This tiny place serves tiny treats with a huge taste. They take no cash and only credit so be prepared to pay and order when you get there. Seating is incredibly limited and the bathroom is definitely a "water closet." The selections are great and include fish, chicken, pork, and even a vegan bao. Taro fries are a must!!!
