Randomly ran into this bar, they only have a few menu. I tried pork belly bun and fried chicken bun, they are good, pork belly is so soft and melt in your mouth but i had tried the better one in Taiwan before. I prefer fried chicken bun as it is so crispy and the source is good. Recommended for both grab and go or chilling at the bar with hiphop decoration

Got two Chairman's, a Birdhaus, a Spiceland, and a Uncle Jesse. Each of them was delicious, even after 30 minutes cause I had to walk back to our hotel with them. Loved the Chairman the most though! The pork belly was to die for, tender and succulent but the skin was still firm. The pickled veg added a whole new layer of depth to the bao! My second fav was the Uncle Jesse, the fried tofu had a hint of sweetness in the breading and the sauce complimented it so well! Each bao was $5 or $5.50 but I think it's well worth considering the size of the meats they give! Check out the picture, the pork belly completely eclipses the bao! Totally recommend heading here at least once for a try of the Chairman Bao.

The place is really small though. They have enough seating for maybe 13 people? Though I think some people were just standing around the tables. Walking in and out forces you to squish yourself against the wall to make space. There's a bathroom also, but it's super tiny!

I had been meaning to come to this place for a while and I went for the lunch special - 3 baos and taro fries or sweet bao for $15.
The pork belly was my favorite, followed by the fish filet and then the general bao (fried chicken). The sweet bao was also really good...wasn't sure what to expect but it was a donut like pastry.
The place is a little...grimy. I'd probably just do takeout next time and eat elsewhere.

Food was sick, so sick, I loved it. The spot is cool as hell, the vibe is great. What killed the entire experience for me was the guy at the counter. Some dude with a tattoo of a star on his neck. It honestly felt like he was getting paid to be a dick.

Made a special visit to Eddie Huang's Baohaus to satisfy my appetites. I tried the pork belly and fried chicken bao. The pork belly was of good consistency, with just enough fat and just enough meat. The buns were fluffy and delicious. In the end, the menu was a bit over priced in my opinion, but still a good place to check out.

Such great food. They are a little bit pricey for the size of the bao that you get, but it's quality meat and of course it's also just New York. The atmosphere is really cool with all the stickers filling the walls and the dark lighting. There's also a bathroom.

The minced pork rice and the buns are really authentic for an "authentic" Taiwanese myself. The buns are quite small though, but really authentic. Price is fair. I think they only take cards now, no cash.

Small, loud, cramped, and off-putting service. We were made to wait for ten minutes as they had too many orders and were refusing new ones. Baos were average: pork belly was overly fatty, fried chicken "coffin" was somehow both dry and a grease bomb, tofu was (unexpectedly) the standout. Prices are far too high.

Super limited seating and perhaps avoid the corner on a very crowded day but otherwise the food here is delicious!
I order the fish and the chicken every time and they do not disappoint!
The servers and everyone there are nice and helpful and if you're stuck, they've got their recommendations.
For pic: Spiceland Chicken on the left and the spicy fish on the right.

Allergy Warning: This place uses PEANUTS so please take this into account when visiting with people and you don't know their allergens.

One of my favourite places to visit when in NYC, created by Eddie Huang, the baos are good, but the staff is what makes the place awesome. They also sell their own snapbacks, I was basically obligated to buy one.

Their rice bowls are very tasty. And the garlic cabbage is spicy but not too spicy (although I'd venture to say that it is drenched in oil). The price is not bad for what you get, although the price per bao is exorbitant. Also not a lot of indoor seating.

Food was good, service could be better.. price is a bit high for what it is. Atmosphere and the interior design of Baohaus is pretty chill, I tried the pork belly and two other chicken Baos. The chicken ones were both pretty dry and lacked flavour. The pork belly was juicy and flavourful.

Very cool spot. The baos are pretty good but not mouthwatering. For some reason they all have peanuts sprinkled on top. The tarp fries are interesting and the sauce that they come with is excellent

Very trendy. If you know anything about Eddie Huang, you know what to expect. Very small on the inside, more of a to-go kind of place. Amazing food, lives up to the hype. We came right before the rush and they forgot our order but gave us some extra baos to make up for it.

We popped into Baohaus in the middle of the afternoon and it wasn t busy at all. Service was very quick - we ordered one of each bao, plus taro fries. This food... my god is it good, particularly the Spiceland bao, which I didn t expect to be so complex. And the taro fries left me wishing that more places had taro fries. The overall vibe of the place is also great - it s very small but has a lot of personality. I would probably fly up to NYC again just to eat here, that s how much I loved these little sandwiches.

Wonderful place to get a simple BAO, not much seating space available, sometimes there's a line to get food. They used to have secret menu items but no longer serves them..FYI, it's credit card only!

This is a great little Taiwanese street food spot that you can't miss. The Baohaus "Chairman Bao" Taiwanese hamburger is a slice of heaven for any pork lover. A pair of fatty delicious chunks of pork belly seasoned with mustered greens cilantro red sugar and peanuts in a bun roll is to die for. Especially food after a good stiff drink.

Your little greasy-unhealthy-localized yet yummy-quickly-friendly restaurant!
I almost missed this place as the entrance was rather small. The environment wasn t pleasant as it smelt oily - but hey this is a shop for friend chicken and pork belly!
Got a minced pork belly over rice with fried chicken. It wasn t authentic-not Taiwanese, but it was tasty! The pork belly wasn t too fatty which I like, and the additional fried chicken (+2) wasn t too salty nor saucy.
The rice bowl also comes with some cabbage and pickled vegetables. A little overcooked but the taste was good.
The portion was large and the service fast & friendly. No complaint with the expectations of a little fast-food-like place!

I heard a lot of good things about this place but the service is really bad! the girl that was working in the front was really rude as she just threw my order at where I was sitting without even calling my name, on top of that she was just concerned with her phone instead of paying attention to the customer. The food was ok, but the baos were smashed together with the filling like someone just sat on top of them and it was really expensive! just a small one piece of the chairman bao was $4.75 and it was not even that delicious! This place is just all hype! If you want a real bao go to chinatown you can find better food for less money!

I'm a big fan of bao buns so I had to make a stop here! The place was very small and crowded with rap/rnb music in the background.

I went for the Chairman Bao - I'm not sure how I feel about $4 something for one bao bun but it was worth it. The pork was tender and loved the sauces and peanuts!

Will be back to try out the other bao buns.

Went to Sorriso's on a whim while on a walk - this place is a gem! They have an incredible selection of imported Italian pastas and goods. But the real star of the store is their homemade sausages. The people who work there are incredibly nice - offered me a sample of their homemade sopressata... it was so amazing that I ended up buying a half pound! We have also had their spicy italian sausages - also incredible.

Ignore the whack one star reviews from non-Taiwane...

Ignore the whack one star reviews from non-Taiwanese people who haven't the faintest idea what a gua bao is, where Eddie Huang came from, or what he's doing for Taiwanese food culture in NY. They don't understand the art form. Taiwanese street food has its own lineage of masters and Eddie's food is in conversation with a melody you've never heard. Any Taiwanese eater worth their can see this before they even take a bite, from the nutty caramelized skin, to the glistening fat with even brownness showing penetration, to the pile of fresh peanut snow on top...Eddie done right. This is the one that redeems Chang's bastardization. It makes bao that white bloggers rave about something that doesn't make Taiwanese Americans want to scream into a pillow. Even if it's still gotta be delivered on a soft white pillow for Americans to mess with it. #theycanthandlethebloodricecake

It pisses me off the type of eaters who will whine about $6 bao (or for that matter, tacos, arepas, lumpia, pho) but probably pay $40 for a steak, pasta, or sushi. Just like they want to box certain types of food into Chinatown. No shade to kaiseki or carbonara - but other "cheap" cuisines are arguably just as complex (if not more). They're often labor intensive, traditionally prepped by people whose labor was unpaid, with rich and deep culinary traditions that span generations. There is just as much complexity to regional Taiwanese street food as there is to terroir of French wine - literally on a street by street level. The fact that these foods have often found their place on the margins, watered-down versions of American takeout, speaks more to our society's structural displacement of migrant culture, ignorance, and assimilation to white tastes, rather than the actual value of food made by the hands of grandmas.

What's it worth to experience a bite that literally takes hours to braise and prepare, using spices imprinted in the collective memory of a people, tasted thousands of times over each person's childhood, that speaks to a diaspora from a small island that spans literally the entire world? Hella more than $6, and I'll gladly pay that and more. Take your culturally tone-deaf misconceptions, take that box where you want to put our food, our history, our actual bodies, that circumscribed district where you would prefer to experience all of it, and burn it down. We are not here for your convenience. Leave the money. We'll take your six dollars but not your disrespect.

I tried going to the original location at the LES before but It changed hands and now is a rub and tug.

I'm not a big fan of Baos. I didn't enjoy pork belly until recently. The gf and I had time to kill before dinner at momofuku. It was a great idea to stop in because we ordered the Jeremy Lin Bao. It's has curried fried chicken and the other usual stuff. We also got the Chairman based on yelpers must have. And we also ordered the braised pork cheek one too.

I don' know what we did but we also got this donut thing with a black sesame sauce too. I was a nice surprise. I must have been because of the J Lin Bao. Getting a FOB drink would have made the snack too too rich. Water is just fine.

I liked the music they played. I liked the not so standard staff working. The tagged up bathroom was crazy. Just wish it was a little bit bigger with more seating. The bathroom is very small so be wary.

It was okay. I personally enjoy the buns at Ippudo more, but I can see why some of my friends raved about this location. There was a bit too much texture for me to enjoy the flavor, and the prices can be outrageous. Unless you're a pork bun fanatic, you're better off walking down the street in ANY direction, for 1 dollar pizza.

Do not sleep on this grungy hole-in-the-wall joint...

Do not sleep on this grungy hole-in-the-wall joint. It's low-key and NYC urban-grind design is juxtaposed with top-chef quality food. These Taiwanese style buns with a contemporary twist are the best I've had. Every time I come to NY I make a special trip to the East Village to grab a couple of these. The buns themselves have great fluffy texture with good flavor. All of the meat used are well-sourced and wonderfully seasoned. Unfortunately, they've gotten rid of the beef one, which was divine! The sauces, cilantro, and crumbled nut garnishes add an extra bonus that make your tastebuds dance. They've added rice bowls to the menu, which I haven't had but I'm sure are equally delish! The taro fries are unique and should be tried. What's so great about this place is that the food comes out really fast so it's "fast-food" with restaurant prepared quality. It's very small so there isn't a lot of sitting but you can chow down outside or outside on the sidewalk. It's also open super late :-)

The food here is AMAZING. I love the chicken and pork baos. The taro fries is quite unique. I just think the price of one bao is way too overpriced. It doesn t even fill you up much. Taro fries are really dry but go well with the sauce they provide. Be aware this place also doesn t take cash!

I ve only been here once but I will definitely come back again. Amongst my friends and I, I believe we tried all their variations on the bao sandwich. Only down side is that it s not meant for a seat down meal. We ended up grabbing our food and headed over to a nearby park to eat. We looked sketchy but it was a brilliant decision. Also, the fried bao with pandan and sesame sauces were amazing to end the quick bite.

Baohaus is a hole in the wall type establishment with graffiti and Eddie Huang's accolades (he passed the NY state bar!) plastered on the walls and old school hip hop blasting from the speakers. Eddie makes really good baos and they're really affordable. One is perfect for a snack and 2 or 3 (or 4 or 5) make for a delicious meal. The beef cheek one was definitely my favorite. The fried chicken one was really good too! The baos (the white bun that holds all the goodies) are authentic, as are the garnishes on some of the baos (cilantro, chopped peanuts, etc). The taro fries are also a must try.
