NCBI is billed as a specialty brain injury center, however, there was nothing special here. My husband deteriorated in their care. There are understaffed units, inadequate coordination of care and over medication of patients. My husband improved significantly when we got him out of there and went to Burke in White Plains, an amazing place. Look closely, ask questions and review all medications. The medical care is inadequate. Inadequate number of aides to care for brain injured patients well. Administration turns a blind eye to this. Their bottom line is their profit.

This was the worst place I ever experienced. I kept a daily journal the entire time my husband was there with the names of the people who interacted with us, what care they gave him, what questions we asked and what answers we got, and it was completely unacceptable. My family and I were there every single day of his stay and the way he and the other men in the room were treated was terrible. Some of them were falling out of bed, it was next to impossible to get a nurse, the doctor only saw us once even though we asked all the time to speak to him. One day when I arrived, I couldn't even find my husband and had to walk around and finally saw him slumped in his wheelchair near an empty nurses' station. My husband and my family were basically ignored. I asked for 4 days to please get the doctor and to explain why my husband was constantly twitching, looking like there was seizure activity, had cold sweats, was desaturating, and no one ever came or addressed it until one day when the nurse just said she was sending him out to the hospital where he died within a week. The one and only time a doctor came to see him, he himself told us this is a terrible place. I understand now the complaints are not in his record and that is because the staff is responsible to document these things and obviously they never even did that. I agree with a previous review that if it was possible to give it a negative star, that's what I would do.

I was at the Northeast Center (NCRBI) for slightly more than two years. I was on the ventilator unit as I did not have any neurological difficulties. Most of my experience was with the respiratory therapists and not the rehabilitation people. However, I did have some contact with the rehab people. Firstly, let me address the rehabilitation people. I found them to be caring and helpful to all the people I saw them working with. More s the pity that while they were working very hard a lot of their equipment was very old and needed maintenance and repair. It is a wonder that they produce such good works as they do.

My social worker was a very hard working dedicated person. I truly enjoyed her company. The food was not bad. I should praise the nutritionist working with me. She was great. From what I have seen if you need rehabilitation this place is excellent just don t expect very good care from the other departments except the respiratory people who as I stated are excellent.

This is the worst place to send your Love one. Mines almost died when the paramedics came they had to revive him and his clothes was so soiled from feces and urine that had been on him all day. He had a lot of bed sores. Do not send your Love Ones there RUN

This place is a total scam they declare you mentally incompetent and then you are forced to stay there until you receive the help necessary to live your life on your own except they do not help you with the mental aspects of your brain damage the physical therapy people are good the non nursing staff are good but the people who are meant to help you with your mental issues don't do that and I watch the nurse laugh at somebody and deny he was having a seizure right before he collapsed on the ground having a seizure also on paper they cured my brain damage because they couldn't legally kick me out so instead of helping me they threw me on the streets

If I could give The Northeast Center negative star...

If I could give The Northeast Center negative stars I would. My mother in law was there for close to a year, and it was a horrible experience. She was terribly neglected and every time we went to visit she would be in her room, sitting in her own excrement. The whole place smelled like urine. The "food" was microwaved slop. They gave up on her physical therapy a month after she got there, as well as speech therapy. We basically paid $1,300/day for her to be treated like a potted plant - at best. If we hadn't been there to see her as often as we had, there's no telling what would've happened to her. I can't imagine what it's like for the poor people in there who don't have family or friends in there acting as their advocate. They are understaffed, and the staff that they do have are overwhelmed and/or don't know what they're doing. This place legitimately needs to be shut down.

They specialize in helping those with traumatic brain injuries, with that being said the staff here are very patient and trained well to work with all resident populations. Great staff and overall a great facility.

My husband was in a car accident in the Spring and we thought he would never walk again. Mid Hudson Regional hospital recommended the Northeast Center because if it s highly regarded physical therapy and brain injury program. We took a tour of the facility and the admissions person Susan was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and explained the Insurance process and how the physical therapy and occupational therapy would work, she introduced us to everyone and put us at ease. My husband was there for approximately six weeks. The Nurses on the The unit were very friendly and kept us abreast of his situation daily the physical therapy department was wonderful I can t say enough about Lucas and his staff amazing. The social workers set up home health care so that we did have somebody that helped us when we got home. My husband a picky eater Even raved about the food! I can t say enough about how this place was a godsend at our time of need I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

Please listen to the negative reviews because they are all true. I have been in many rehabs before. This place is understaffed, incompetent, you have to wait days to see a Dr. Place is dirty. Everyone is under lock and key. They give minimal time only during week for any rehab. Even the dining room tables are perpetually sticky. No one returns phone calls. Nurses never have answers to anything or told this not my floor. I picked this place specifically for brain injury and arms rehab. I am so sorry.

Northeast Center is a special place catering to a special population. My loved one has been a resident at Northeast Center and I am amazed at the compassion the staff display. My loved one suffered a brain injury 3 years ago and whenever I visit I see the patience the staff have with him. He has changed as a person, which is often the case when sustaining a brain injury, and I am now coming to love this "new" person with the help of the staff. I've read the other reviews and in my experience those reviews are false. I think a lot of families don't realize the amount of effort that goes in to caring for those with a brain injury. They are a challenging population to care for. I've seen staff literally get hit by patients yet there approach is kind. I can't say enough positive things about the Center.

Toilet after admission....To start i have worked in healthcare for about 15 years now from senior living and memory care, to rehabilitation, to nutrition, and currently working in an OR. From the initial tour they like to paint a glowing picture of this perfect place with so much to offer with all of the activities they have (Don't fall for it). My loved one was on the vent unit. Being employed in healthcare I tend to look for things. I have to say that one of the things that bothered me most was waiting to be buzzed in and seeing the RN/LPN on duty make a dash to the room every time we visited. This should not be the case. There should be no need to check in to make sure everything was Ok just because family has arrived. This should not be a worry as rounds should be done on a regular basis(which did not). My loved one was a brittle diabetic. On top of many other things I will explain one scenario. Her sugar level was supposed to be checked every two hours...we were there visiting for 5.5 at this point and were getting ready to leave. As i was leaving I noted the time and requested that her sugar be checked soon(shouldn't of needed to). Nurses assured me it would. Fast forward 3 days to our care conference. I questioned what her sugar was that night (noting the time we were there). Miraculously we were informed of her blood sugar level as it was taken at 630 that night. Problem is...we were there during that time and not a damn person was in that room the whole time we were there. That's some incredible invisible person magic...wrong in both moral and other ways . In short...if I could have given this place a negative score I would have. Since then my loved one has passed away(at this hellhole). Staff I feel have 0 compassion except for one CNA. Not a word was said the day we came to collect her things.
If you love your family....do not send them here!!!!

As a state certified nursing assistant I would give this facility no stars as they violate patient rights and confidentiality in every way. They do not run background checks. The staff are irresponsible and abusive. 3 out of every four residents are not law abiding citizens. Many have felonies. I have met a person whose mother died of intestinal blockage while in their care. Their staff psychologist is vindictive when you choose not to meet with him when he tries to force his way into your room. He refused to meet if I were to talk with him "observed" in front of the nurses' station. I have to give a star in order to process this review. What a crock!
