This is one of my favorite places in the city. When I have visitors I ALWAYS make sure to bring them here because they re always impressed. The food is amazing. I wish there was more seating, but still 5+ stars nonetheless.

Very expensive for a guabao (even by NYC standard). The buns they used for the "fried chicken coffin" was a bit stale, the flavor was otherwise decent. As for the bao, not sure if they were low on ingredients, but there was a pinch of peanut crumbles in the bao and almost nonexistent pickled vegetable. The lack of pickled vegetables made the pork belly a bit too heavy. The pork guabao, overall, was a let down (especially having to wait 10 min for it), though their tofu guabao was surprisingly good (albeit, again, pricey)!

Chinese buns (sort of). The food was pretty amazing. The only reason I rated this 3 instead of 4 stars is that I think the prices are too high and the ones I tried were a little too unhealthy for my brain to truly enjoy. The buns are the same as those used in some Peking duck dishes. Each bun is roughly the size of your palm. It's a great for snack food (especially after drinking), but it seems overpriced for dinner. I tried the Chairman Bao (pork belly - very good, though pork belly is a bit too fatty for my tastes though. I should have considered that before I ordered, but the name amused me.), Birdhaus (fried chicken with mayonnaise? - tastes really good, but I kept thinking how bad for me that little thing was), Uncle Jesse (lightly fried tofu - by and far my favorite), and the Sweet Bao Fries (fried bread with sauce - about what you would expect). I would definitely go back for a snack, and I do want to try the other options.

Price: ~3.50 per bun (3-4 buns for a meal)

Cool spot and worth a visit. Small narrow restaurant but with nice vibe. Menu is pretty straight up and not complicated. I went with pork belly Boa and spicy fried chicken Boa. Both excellent but was expecting a bit more crisp to the pork belly. One beer to choose from. (Hard to get good pic as Boa bun disappears into white background of plate. )

The Baos are delicious and there aren't really any comparable places in the area. Note however that even though they may seem cheap at $3 a pop, you're going to need at least three to feel satisfied since they're small. Still worth it though

Love the vibe of this place! This is my second visit here. The food always exceeds my expectations and the food is made to order. It s quite small and dark inside but that s part of the experience. Payment only with card.

3.5 stars.
A bit expensive. $5 a piece for a single bao which depending on what you like can be hit or miss.
The chicken bao was nice and crunchy and had a sweet and at points tangy flavor. The dough is soft, airy, and moist. Loved it. The spicy version just has a siricha based sauce.

The pork belly bao wasn't my thing. Super soft, fatty pork belly. It had a good flavor but the texture wasn't for me. It had sweetened peanuts sprinkled on top which added a nice sweetness to it.

The tea was lukewarm and bland. Not a very strong green tea.

The decor is what you expect of a dive bar; Stickers, tags, carvings in the table, graffiti in the bathroom.

Nice staff. Very courteous.

This is a must visit when you're in NYC. Eddie Haung definitely knows his food. We went at night and got the chicken (the pork belly one runs out quick so you have to get it early). It was so good we went back the next day to get the pork belly and was not disappointed. Both were very flavourful and if I lived in NYC, I'd be visiting constantly. Highly recommend.

Awesome place to stop by and grab some delicious baos. They stuff these bad boys with plenty of meat. I tried the Chairman bao, Birdhaus bao and the Spiceland bao with some friends. The Chairman was delicious as they stuff it with a braised all natural thick cut of pork belly. The Birdhaus has a nice crispy texture with the 24 hour all natural fried chicken. The Spiceland packs some heat as it has the Szechuan chili oil. They offer a nice variety here and the wait is not long for your baos. Highly recommend this spot if you want to much on some baos as they have all types to satisfy all flavor profiles. Space is very tight and they have limited seating. Its best to grab and go.

Great buns, I'd eat them every day for breakfast if the line wasn't always so long. But Finally! They hired more people. Hopefully it won't take so long to get in and out. 2 days in a row, so far so good!

This place is soooo good but don't come expecting a full meal! Go with a friend or two and expect it to be more of a snack, since each bao costs about $6. The pork belly was good as well as the fried chicken!

I happened upon this place while walking around and could not have been more pleased. The baos they have are absolutely delectable. They may seem small but, paired with a side of fries, it's a filling, delecious meal.

I would recommend getting one of every bao when you come here. They re all awesome and the service is quick. Not a lot of seating but it wasn't crowded when I went. The fries are just fine, nothing to write home about.

Not a bad place that carries a very hipster vibe. The photos of the baos online are deceiving and they are smaller than expected. Though the food was good. Get the taro fries but definitely share them as they go hard pretty quickly

the baos are good but not worth the price. the real downside of this place was the service. The people that served me were rude and management needs to talk to the people that work here.

Solid tasting and flavorful pork and chicken rice bowl though I had higher expectations of the menu coming in. The number of items menu is somewhat limited (good and bad thing at the same time) and the space is small and a little awkward. Come check out the wall of plastered stickers and graphics on in the seating area!

Tiny place that serves a new take on Taiwanese "small dishes" (similar to tapas), typically served as street food and in night markets. Definitely get the Chairman Bao. You can't go wrong with pork belly and all the condiments make it super delicious with the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Sweet Bao fries were also a really good combination of sweet and savory--though more on the sweet side. It's fried bread (crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside) with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk and black sesame paste. Great stuff!

I am sure the taste is wonderful, but a bite size for the price they are asking for? It is ridiculous! I drive hours to New York to support the brother, but disappointed by the outrageous price they are asking for!

Really good food for a fairly cheap price. You will end up eating at least 3 bao if you want a full meal but make sure to ask for the peanut sauce, it really enhances the flavors of the bao! Make sure to have a place to go to if you can't find a seat inside the place it's very small.

Yes!!! Love it, that chairman bao is delicious. Everything on this menu is delicious. I love coming here. I've been here after 3 and the rush is crazy. So it is later in the evening particularly on Fri and Saturday. But it's a quick thing. I've never spent more than 20-30 minutes here. Love and recommend it. My partner and I love coming here before going to the movies. Baobaus is always a good idea.don't leave without trying the taro fries.

Being Chinese, I expected something a little different when I came here. The buns were delicious but not the best I ve ever had, and the inside was really squished. There s 2 places to sit inside so be prepared to take your baos to go.

Pretty tasty stuff. This was my first time trying Taiwanese and I have been sold. I had just come from the Nugget place a few stores down after being extremely disappointed (too expensive, not enough food) and was very satisfied here.

I got the chicken and fries and those fries are some next level fries. Idk how they made them or what they put on them but they tasted amazing and super different. And then the sauce. Oh my goodness. Heaven in your mouth.

Hoping that there could be menu menu expansion with non pork items as most of the menu was pork and I not a pork eater. It would be nice to try other variations without pork.

5/5 will be coming back in the future.

The bao buns were very good. I went at a time where it wasn t too busy so service was very quick. I could definitely see it getting cramped when busy. I ordered the first three items on the menu and was not disappointed.

The Chairman Bao & Fried Chicken Buns are addicting. The staff is super accommodating & friendly. The rice bowls are divine but not for anyone that doesn't like s bit of spice. Give it a try, I promise you'll be back.

Everything from the atmosphere and decor inside felt relaxed and casual. You could tell there was a lot of history on the walls. I spent a good 15 minutes just looking around at the walls.

The menu was simple quick and to the point. I was recommended the combo of Chairman Bao and Birdhaus Bao. The first being a soft break apart in your mouth pork belly the latter being a crispy chicken. They were both so delicious. I ate the chicken and then remembered I didnt have photos yet.

Wish I had more time in New York to finish their menu. Will definitely be back.
