Limited space expected for NYC. The chicken bao was pretty good. I hated the pork belly
Limited space expected for NYC. The chicken bao was pretty good. I hated the pork belly
Quick bite, good value for price. No cash accepted.
Good food but the space is a bit too small and crowded when the line is long.
The Chairman Bao and the birdbaus bao were both excellent, but the portions were a bit small given the price. Everything was very flavorful and the staff was attentive enough to bring the food to where I was sitting. Would recommend this place for late night snack.
Delicious! Great prices! Good for a quick bite with friendly/ efficient staff.
Great food, clean and relaxed atmosphere. The workers here are friendly.
Delicious bao buns, served with your choice of meat, fried tofu, or fried oyster with toppings like crushed peanut, cilantro and Taiwanese red sugar. Portions are small, so get a few of these! Taiwanese beverages (Ai Yu jelly lemonade) and Sarsaparilla root beer also available! Very small storefront; service is warm and friendly.
Cool space. Didn't like the Birdhaus Bao, go for the Fish Bao instead.
The buns were good and staff friendly but it's hard to focus and enjoy the food when the entire place is a shrine to the owner Eddie Huang. I actually really enjoy his show and point of view, but the homage to himself was too much. Bummed me out. Great hip hop blasting if you eat at a table, might be too loud for some.
The layout sucks balls but the food doesn't disappoint. If you're not a fan of claustrophobic spaces and dive-y vibes, they're on Caviar for delivery.
Friendly staff, great music and atmosphere. Very trendy. Food was ok, probably just not my thing over that the food was lacking
Great small bao restaurant with a few seats. But the place was pretty cool and the music they have are enjoyable. The chairman bao which is the pork belly is one of my favorite baos to order. Staffs are nice, friendly and attentive. Overall great experience and concept is off the hook.
Great spot to get a quick bite. My favorite is the pork and surprisingly the tofu. The sauce they use is amazing. I always take my friends here when they want a quick bite before heading somewhere else.
Good food but venue was very small. dont expect to sit down. Pork Belly bao is very good. Deep fried bao was unique. pretty much a doughnut
Spicy chicken is amazing, but nothing beats the Chairman!
Coming from someone that's used to authentic Taiwanese food, Baohaus's take is a bit strange.
Food was good, not great. All a little too sweet for my palate
Delicious bao. Classic pork belly was fantastic. Good size portion (especially the meat). It is a $6 bao though and there's like 7 or 8 seats in total.
The first time I walked in they were playing Ghostface Killah. That alone gets you 5 stars from me but the food backed it up and they deserve it. Kinda pricey for what you get but delicious.
My boyfriend was like why are we coming all the way from Far Rockaway telling me i watch too much t.v ...one bite and uhm
Delicious bun bao and taro fries. Hip hope vibe. Occasional sightings of Eddie Huang.
The best bao I've had in the city (yes, better than Momofuku). Yes, it's a dive and the seats aren't comfy but every single bao is perfect (my personal favorite is the fried chicken). This is where I go when I want buns.
This place is spot to visit pay homage to one of the few celebrity chefs who has mastered the combination of food and hip pop.
I had the Birdhaus bao with the taro fries. The Birdhaus bao is a good chicken bao with all elements done well. The chicken is flavourful, tender, and juicy, with a good breading. The peanuts and aioli are great complements to the bao as a whole. The taro fries are interesting. It's one of those things to have once but unlikely again. They were kind of stiff and didn't have a lot of taro flavour to them. The haus sauce a good spicy but nothing extraordinary.
Definitely check out this spot for uniqueness in its decor.
Was really excited to try the baos here because Eddie Huang is legendary. They were pretty good, but small (3 bites and you're done). Prices are reasonable considering everything in NYC is crazy expensive. Not much seating, so go when it's slow or plan to take it out.
Delicious food, friendly staff, but limited seating.
The chairman bao is top notch. Was a little underwhelmed by the birdhaus. Really good place if you re looking for a fast and delicious snack. Difficult to make a full meal out of.
The food is pretty good, simple dishes that will satisfy your cravings. They feature some new selections every once in a while but a lot of original menu items as well. The dinning area is very casual and there isn't much space. I would get my things to go.
Epic sandwiches! Could go back again and again. Often a bit of a wait, and can be crowded at night, but well worth it
Finally got to visit this place while in NYC and loved it. Food was delicious and the decor is unique.
If I was ballin', I would have these Bao's everyday. Pretty pricey and small but they do taste very good.
We went during on a weekday afternoon and had no trouble getting a seat. The manager's meal was delicious. You should try the tarrow fries.
Best pork buns ever. Cheap, cool spot. One of my favorite places ever.
can't go wrong with bao! The baos are tasty. My faves are the chcken and the pork belly. I wish the baos weren't so small, that's my only complaint. Other than that this is a fave of mine in the area.
Delicious! The best bao sandwiches that I've had so far. Pork belly bao is a must! The chicken bao is also really good.
Bao is great. Tried to order the tofu bao but they were sold out.
So went with the pork belly. Very fatty but I knew what I was getting into. Didn't eat the fat, and it was still delicious. Also ordered the taro fries and they were nice and crispy.
Not the best pork belly around and not the best price either but it's good enough to get the job done. The place has hip decor but hardly any space for walking. Wasn't crowded each time I went around lunch hour so it's a pretty good place for a quick lunch.
Small and cozy place that is best for quick grabs. It's perfect for a sidewalk party. Delicious bao that I have no comparison thus far.
Not much seating, but they've got delicious bao! The Uncle Jesse deserves a mention just because it's a lighter tofu alternative, but still tasty and filling.
I ordered a chairman bao, a minced pork rice and a aiyu lemonade. The bao was small and relatively lean and the bun was little bit firm. The rice was so so, the side veg in the rice was spicy which made the rice meal non authentic. The lemonade was pre made and didn't have aiyu in it. It tasted simply just a lemonade. The bottom line is if you would like to know how Taiwanese baos look lile, it's a good to start.
Looks bit dirty but it might be the theme they're after. Food was on point. Especially that spicy chicken pao, was amazing.
The fried bao with pandan condensed milk are pretty tasty. It's a small eats spot, good for some late night grubbing, but I can't say the quality is the best. I still like Momofuku/Ippudo's pork belly buns better.
Pork belly buns are out of this world. Try it and you won't regret!
Small place on 14th that serves Taiwanese sandwiches. Worth trying all of them. My favorite is still the pork belly bao.
Great place for a quick bite. Kinda feels like this place needs to be converted into a restaurant with more bun options with more comfortable seating since they could easily have more people coming in.
In London people queue up for these little buns of heaven!
The food is delicious, but the cramped spaces will have you claustrophobic while you wait for your order.
Pro Tip: Order ahead on Seamless/GrubHub and take it to go.
Pro Tip 2: There's a reason the Chairman Bao often sells out... Get it if you can.
Best bao I've eaten bar none. This place kicks ass. Eddie and his crew have put together an amazing place. Do yourself a favour and go to Baohaus!!
Eddie Huang's (from fresh off the boat & huangs world fame) place. Awesome bao buns, perfect for late night sustenance while out drinking.
Ratings their dishes on a 1 best and 5 bad scale:
5 - Chairman Bao. Pork belly. Hard to go wrong with pork belly, and the garnishes added to it are nice and remind me of something very Taiwanese (whatever that means)
4 - Haus Bao. Braised beef. Not the best or most tender braised beef i've had, but pretty good.
4 - Taro Fries - surprisingly really good. Dipping sauce was somewhat sweet and delicious.
4 - Birdhaus Bao - Chicken was good and probably the best value of all their baos. You get the most meat in this one for sure.
4. Uncle Jesse - Tofu. Not bad, esp considering it's only tofu. Good flavor.
3 - Oyster Pao Bao - kinda weak since there's hardly any oyster meat in there. Granted oyster is expensive, so that makes sense, but it's kinda like, what's da point if ya can't taste the oyster.
Delivery took a while, but otherwise fine. You'd need to eat a couple baos and the fries to be full for a guy imo.
It's a simple and cozy eatery with amazing food. The chef/owner is pretty cool and knows his way around the kitchen. The food is made to order and unlike anything you had before unless you been to Taiwan. But even then, give it a try and you'll def wanna go back. The baos and rice bowls are big attractions.
Tried the pork bao and fried chicken bao... Always wanted to try it and yum... The fried chicken bao was AMAZING... Addictive as hell now I am going to have to grab one everytime I am nearby... Pork belly was alittle bit too fatty for me but still tasty... Its pork belly what should I expect right? My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it... Friendly staff... My only complaints would be the size of the establishment since I am large and also they dont take cash... I disapprove of a cashless society that lurks ahead... I always prefer using cash... Maybe I'm just a proper geezah... Either way tasty...
I deeply regret to inform you this glorious place has closed
I really love the food here. It's a little expensive for how much you get but that's common in New York. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the staff always has a "cooler than you" attitude.
A bit pricey for the portions, but great food nonetheless.
Big fan of the show, the book, and the entrepreneur Eddie, so naturally coming to NYC I couldn't miss the opportunity to make this stop. The restaurant is small, matter of fact, take it or leave it type of place, so don't expect it to look fancy, but the food is amazing. Tried Chairman Mao & Fried Chicken Bao, fries, green tea & root beer; food was simplistic, fresh, delicious and served quick. If you go, check out the restroom, quite unique on its own!
This place in the LES is packed with taiwanese-americans venting youthful angst about their yuppie jobs over some delicious comfort food. A little expensive, but they do use quality ingredients. Chrysanthemum tea in a box and steamed peanuts remind me of being a kid visiting family. The decor is basic but a little more conducive to socializing than the usual Chinatown bakery -- makes for a great late-night stop with all your drunk pals.
The Chairman Bao is filthy in the best possible way.
Very good vegan buns and a great place to grab something to eat in under 30 mins without breaking the bank.
Yummy baos, really love the minced pork stew rice. Great and inexpensive lunch for students around the area.
Space is too small to my liking. Buns are expensive and not worth the price even if they taste good. I wouldn't really go back though.
Hole in the wall type of place, more like a shrine to Eddie
I love this spot. If the baos weren't $5 I would stuff my face. Lol.
I was little disappointed with the quality of the Bao. I guess i got sucked in by the owner's star power, but there are much better Bao at other places that don't specialize in it, like ippudo.
These baos are absolutely incredible. Everything from the bun to the meats to the sauce is perfect, and the fries are ridiculous! 2 baos with fries is extremely filling. This space is amazing
When are you guys open again? No one does baos like you!! Momofuku comes close.... But not quite.
This is one of the best places to eat in NYC. The pork belly melts in your mouth... Literally. The chicken is delicious as well. You can't go wrong when Baohouse!
I enjoyed the food ad would recommend trying it, however it's overpriced for what it is so I can't see myself going here regularly.
I love the owner Eddie Huang's VICE show FOTB, so I just had to try this place. The food is really unique and tastes great, especially the Fried Fish Bao. The place is a pretty cool little joint, with an underground hip hop feel to it. The only negatives are that it's a bit overpriced and there's not much room inside to sit.
Good food, good music, urban vibe, small space, small bench outside for outdoor seating.
You have got to eat here at least once in your life
Get the pork belly and be happy. Takes awhile and staff likely won t jump to serve but that s part of the vibe. Unique and worth the hype.
hate this place, the bao is seriously the size of your fist, so tiny, you pretty much have one bite and its gone
