One of the best places for Baos in NYC! It's my go to snack before trivia @ The Blind Pig across the street
Grabbed lunch here today and it was a major letdown. The high reviews here must be from an earlier time when the place cared about fresh food. I ordered the fried fish, pork belly, and chicken bao buns with a side of fries. The fries must have been cooked yesterday because they were stale as hell. The bao buns were ok but nothing worth raving about - fish was the best still I won't be back.
Absolutely delicious! We visit everytime we come to NY!!
Only if I could give more than a 5 star rating for these little flavor bombs
3 pork buns should not take over fifteen minutes to prepare. They were tasty though.
Love this place, hit it up every time I'm in NYC. Great drunchies spot.
This is a great little fast food stop. Seating is minimal but the interior is pretty funny and cool. The buns are tasty, with options of either pork, chicken or fish. Varieties of rice bowls are also available along with a selection of interesting drinks. Check them out!
the pork belly is a must try. either the chairman bao or chairman over rice (this was a nice size meal) but for a tasting stick with the baos. the fish bao was ok. the lang lang was like an Asian inspired Arnold Palmer, the the cold brewed bottled coffee was very tasty. the place a bit of a dirty dive so manage you expectations when you go. definitely worth going back for some more.
We were worried this place is known just because of Eddie Huang but we were happy that the food is actually super bomb. Two of us ordered one pork belly bao, one fried chicken bao and the manager's meal. We shared and it was perfect. Definitely one of our favorite eats in NYC after 5 days here.
The place is small with a high top table for 8 and wall seating for another 8. We came after the lunch hour around 2pm and there was plenty of space.
These guys and girls make incredible Pork Buns and Chicken Buns. The Baohaus has been around for a while now. Simple menu and delicious food! I come here all the time. If you re waiting in line to get in, be patient! It s well worth the wait :)
It's a nice small cozy place. The prices online are different from the prices at the place. They only take electronics payments but you can tip with cash. The place is NOT wheelchair accessible but they have a window outside you can order from. You order you good and they serve you when it's ready. It's not a long wait. You get free water from a water dispenser on the counter. They also have foreign beer available. The pork belly on the chairman bao, was so soft I was surprised when I bit into it, wasn't expecting that, it's a must try if you are a pork meat lover. The taro fries are also recommended, though they are more chewier than regular fries but it's worth it. The sauce for the fries was better than ketchup. I would recommend it if you are looking for a new place to try something new with friends or alone. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because I think the baos(bun) are slightly overpriced. I have had bao at different places which were cheaper and equally good. I will go back again just to try the other stuff on their menu. They also have a rice dish on the menu. It is easy to locate. It's right ahead of you when you get out of the 7 train station on 14st.
Worth the wait, Worth the price. Must have for every NYC trip
All I need in my life are chairman and birdhaus bao.
Travelled all the way from Edmonton to try this place. Love love love the vegan options
Great little meals priced very well recomend the pork
The cashier, who was apparently new, had a tiny bit of white paint on his left eye. Just seems worth noting. The food was great, but oddly a bit boring. Let's see, a delightful soft little steamed bun, with meat (the pork belly with the nice layer of fat on top slightly more delicious than the very delicious hanger steak, and the crushed peanuts, cilantro, Haus relish and Taiwanese red sugar are all just super.. The sweet bao "fries" (fried pieces of bao buns) are a tasty little treat, though I couldn't taste any taro flavor in the taro sauce topping I chose (next time I'll try the black sesame (they've apparently discontinued the other toppings listed on the website, Durian, Pandan, S.B.J (sesame, butter and jelly)). Ah, that's right, that's why I was bored. As a foodie a$$hole, 95% of the reason I wanted to go here was for these dipping sauces (as they're referred to on the website, while these would more appropriately be called "drizzles"), so when 3 of the 5 "sauces" are gone, and the one I did get to try didn't amount to much more than a sugary, light purple stickiness, I'm a sad foodie :[
But that's a personal problem. The people are pretty nice, the space is big enough to not feel cramped, and food is yums.
Not sure if this is related to the Chairman Bao food truck in San Francisco, but it resembles it pretty well. I would recommend trying the fried chicken bun. The lemon aioli sauce tops it off really well. In terms of price, the buns are about $4 to $5 each and are pretty tiny. You order your food at the cashier and self-seat, then the workers bring your food over to you.
Put in an order when the place was empty, wait 25 minutes and more people came. When I asked what happened to my order they said they have no idea and wouldn't give a refund. Will never be back.
My first stop when arriving in NYC. These are the best bao buns I have had. I ordered the Chairman, Spiceland, and fried fish baos and an order of the taro fries. Everything was excellent.
Good food. Dope spot. Good music. I don't give 5 unless I cooked it. Hate! Boooom!
This was my 3rd stop on my impromptu NY food tour; It was different. I didn t have any expectations going in. I found it to be a quaint little spot for a quick bite. Food was tasty but will definitely have to return to gauge my overall experience. So I will have to say to you go have your own experience and tell me
The pork belly inside the bun was 80% fat lard, way way too heavy
Came from TX and had to try Baohaus. The pork belly was great but the fried chicken was even better.
If your looking for creative delicious steamed buns then look no further!
The place can be very humble but as they say, don t judge a book by its cover. I ordered a chairman bao and the pork belly was as soft as a cotton ball, and delicious too.
The reason I went to New York was to help my sister out during her trip, but honestly, what convinced me to go was finally getting to try Baohaus. Been craving it since Huangs World season one! The Bao were super delicious. Soft on the outside and a rush of flavor on the inside. Low-key was hoping I'd run into Eddie Huang there
Great for small little plates, everything here is delicious.
It's okay. Takes a while to get your food while is not too filling.
If zero stars were possible..... You know what s good about this place? Absolutely nothing. Bland, dry, and lacking character.
Freestyle cuisine is far superior.
When busy, seating can be at a premium, but the food is solid and the portion sizes allow you to try a few different things. Also perfect for a quick bite as well. Card only; no cash accepted (except for tips).
Food was delicious, and service was quick! Highly recommend!!
While I m not fond of Asian fusion , Eddies restaurant is flirting with that line. I had to try his restaurant while I was in the big apple since I m a fan and supporter.
Food was good, flavor was spot on, and would recommend trying it.
I ve been conditioned my whole life and a Bao should never be this price(my asian background) but it was delicious, even though portion is more like tapas, the pork piece was hefty and reminded me of Vietnamese pork dish thit kao stuffed into a peking duck bao.
Now would I come back and spend my dolla dolla bills again? Since this restaurant is attracting a different demographic, the one willing to pay $5+ dollars for a peking duck bao twist, unfortunately I am not so I m glad I tried it at least once!
Awesome Sauce!!!! Great food, fast and friendly service...
I would say I only went to this place as I knew it was Eddie Giang s place. From the outside looking in I might not have gone in if I hadn t heard about it. The bao (chairman bao) itself was nothing amazing and interior felt a little grimy... prob meant to be the style, but for an eating establishment I like cleaner feels.
I usually stop here when I am in the neighborhood --majority of the times, I come here for a pre-dinner or after dinner snack. The place is located in a small nook and very easily can be missed. Although, usually there is a long line and wait. The service is a bit slow and sometimes I have gotten the rude and obnoxious cashier who pretends I don't even exists and continues to type on their phone. The Birdhaus [chicken, cilantro, crushed peanuts and red sugar] is small enough to quell any cravings but not enough to leave you stuffed. The bread is usually soft and warm while the chicken is piping hot. A couple of times, I have completely burned my tongue but that didn't stop me from wolfing down the boas. The boas are more expensive than other places I been too but it is okay as a once in awhile treat or if you are just buying one as it is nearly impossible to be full after eating one.
The pork stew is underrated - but it s such good quality for what you pay for and delicious!
A great restaurant and given the chef recently went plantbased, I m crossing my fingers for more vegan options !
The food here was cheap and absolutely delicious! I could eat those Bao Buns for days. Definitely looking forward to going back.
Cool restaurant but had terrible stomach problems after eating the food
Baohaus is the lovechild of Eddie Huang, the recently influential foodie and restaurateur, this place contains not only a taste of some decadent Chinese street food, but a stylish hip hop vibe that can be felt in the background music and wall posters.
The buns here are filled with a simple combination of tasty meats, fish or tofu with peanut sauce, lime and a few other ingredients. Sides like taro fries are delicious and unique as well! And to top it all off the food is pretty affordable too!
The only reason I could see not to check it out is if you're looking for something extra healthy or you're on a strict diet.
Was better before the renovations. Seems that the portions are different. They did add new items to the list which are great.
Food is great. Portion sizes are small
Cashier is rude.
Pork Belly. And Guccimane.
Delicious pork buns filled with pork belly, fried chicken, and other delicious fillings. And some dope hip hop on the speakers.
Everything is good. the pork belly has a nice little relish, but honestly the fried chicken has been pulling me away from the pork belly buns.
2nd outpost for these pork bun ballers, and now they deliver to my hood. I've been known to spend 30 bucks on a ton of little sandwiches while relaxing on the couch.
price is reasonable for a meal right at about 10 bucks. buns are 3-5 each.
The bun's aren't big, and the price made my wallet cry a little. But that said, the Chairman Bao had that authentic Chinese pork fused with nuts n sauce in a way that I had always envisioned, so it was like heaven in a bite, basically, a bite which I wish could have been several bites. The Birdhaus was surprisingly stimulating, with the lemon garlic infused in the chicken, and sweet and salty peanut crusts topped it off nicely.
Props for the Mr. foamer simpson sticker
Very crowded but very nice staff. We went on a night when we were craving steamed buns, and the tofu buns hit the spot.
The taro fries are yummy :) ,
the baos were more on the bland side for me.
You get the NY vibe for sure in here. My go to are the fish and chicken bao.
Great tastes. Small cozy place with unique chicken and pork belly sandwiches. Good drinks too.
Love to stop here for a fast tasty bite to eat. Everything on the menu is good, made to order, and excellent prices. They don t accept cash at all so make sure you bring your debit/credit card. Open late. My husband and I absolutely love this place.
I must say I was disappointed from eating there. They run an incredible ig account with mouthwatering photos, but as I tasted it, it was nice. I had better.
Favorite place stopping by
Omg thing is, they need to accept cash instead of card only
This place is a gem. Excellent food! Although I'd have to give the title of best pork bun to momofuku.
Staple of New York City. "That's all I gotta say about that."
Tiny and lived in. Cool wall of stickers. I had fatter and better baos before out of state but this place has unique tasty baos. Cant say if they are the best in town (one of the first few baos ive had so far in NYC) but im sure they are up there.
Eddie man, I'm a big fan but the service was awful. Great baos though.
Order a birdhaus bao and a tofu bao. Small space that gets crowded quick. Baos don't travel too well. Go midweek to get a seat.
Yeah, it's small and narrow. Yes, very few places to sit. Yes, grungy atmosphere in back. But...the food is delicious! Ordered fried chicken Bao (all natural, antibiotic) in steamed bun, slider size. Had lemon-garlic sauce, crushed peanuts, Taiwanese red sugar, little cilantro. Other buns and fries look great. Eddie Huang owns place, man behind tv show "Fresh Off The Boat". Can't wait to try other dishes.
Delicious baos! Tried their pork, chicken, and tofu 5/5 for all of them!
If you're not a vegetarian, then this place is amazing. But the dearth of vegetarian options here disappoints, given that Taiwan's cuisine has lots of creative veggie options. OTOH, they have good, innovative drink options. Though the food is tasty and the place definitely has a gritty urban vibe....it's overhyped.
Great experience for Taiwanese street food, recommend birdhouse Bao, Taro fries and Taiwan brew to wash it down, lemonade with jelly was also very refreshing.
miss their dessert bao, but the rest of the baos are, as always, amazing
Excellent Taiwanese cuisine. fast, cheap and very tasty! I have tried almost everything and I am just cracking. I recommend the hungry experience
Friendly Staff. Nice food. Good for a quick bite around the area, but you may need to order a few for a sufficient bite. In that sense it may be a bit on the pricey side, but competitive for the area.
they shut down 5-6 pm for an hour to prep for the night shift. wtf. going home belly empty.
Finally made it here and kicked myself for not going sooner! Regardless of which bao you get, the "bun" will be soft and light as air, and really works with the different bao options. I'm partial to the fried chicken bao and Adoba bao, but they're all amazing. If you're into spicy, get the beef spicy noodle soup; you can thank me later.
Hole in the wall owned by Eddie Huang from Fresh of the Boat (TV show). Birdhaus (fried chicken) and Uncle Jessie (Tofu) bao's are a must try!
First time coming here and no regrets.
This will become my favorite place to get late night food (or really any time). The pork belly bao is a favorite of mine, but honestly everything is worth a try and incredibly tasty. The staff and music is also great.
Delicious buns that resurrected me after a late night!!! Be advised though that they discontinued the bao fries!
THE MOST PERFECT BAOS EVER. The service is amazing too.
Enjoy a chairman bao and listen to rap. Eddie Huang's masterpiece. Good gua bao and they have apple Sidra!!!
Best pork belly bao I have ever tasted. It is so simple yet at the same time so complex in it's combination of flavors. Definitetly a must try in NYC
