Simply amazing. Went to get an oil change at South Point Hyundai and they had a stray cat found on premises. I said I would take the cat to the shelter. Oh my goodness. The staff really care. They didn t treat me or the beautiful kitten like a number or just next . They truly care and I love them for that

I came here twice to volunteer through work. I had fun both times. I got to spend time walking dogs and playing fetch. Another time I got to feed the cats and play with them. All animals need a little loving, especially being placed into a new environment. I'd suggest volunteering here if you love pets!

We came late in the day after the queue line was fully but the front desk was able to work around it. We were so excited that we were going to be able to adopt Atlas. Who knows if someone else would have adopted him if we waited any longer.

The animal center is great. Helpful staff and a lot of depressed and frightened animals. The smell could be better, but it is an animal shelter. Their adoption queue is a bit confusing. Also they don't let you play with the young cats, which is a bummer. Overall a good place to adopt an unwanted dog, cat or rabbit.

The staff here is absolutely fantastic. They are truly angels on Earth helping to save these poor animals that can't ask for help or fend for themselves. A couple weeks ago, I found two stray dogs running around in a shopping center parking lot where somebody had very obviously dumped them. Of course like anyone with a beating heart I could not drive away without helping. Who knows what would have happened to these pups had Austin Animal Center and their wonderful employees not been there to help. These saints that work at Austin Animal Center made it so easy for me to bring these babies there and ensured they would be taken care of and would never again have to worry about where their next meal would come from or if they would have enough water to drink on these brutally hot days. It was a very easy process and just further goes to show that if you can't take care of your animals, this is where you should bring them instead of leaving them to fend for themselves in a busy shopping center where they would have been hit by cars and easily killed. They are the least judgemental people on the planet and if for any reason you can't take care of her animal any longer, please take them to these wonderful people instead of dumping them in a parking lot where there is no guarantee they will survive.

I have very mixed feelings about this shelter if I would ve written a review about my first visit it would have been 5 stars but sadly my next visit wasn t as enjoyable we had called the 311 about a specific cat to see if it was still available and the original guy said no but was very vague and wouldn t explain so we ended the call I then became very confused about whether she had been adopted or been moved from the shelter considering she s 12 and had been there for several months so I called back an another guy had answered and said the only way to find out is if you put in a service request which would take 3-4 business days to get a call back I felt that was a little ridiculous considering we just wanted to give this sweet cat a home. We then went online and It says she was available so we went down there we made it down at about 3 mind you they close at 7 we went in and spotted her we texted the number to get in line to consult someone that took almost and hour to get our meeting and then we got to visit with her then had to be put in another line just to adopt her this took almost 45 more minutes just to be told that they needed to check with the vets before we could adopt her but they had gone home it was around 5 y all are open for 2 more hours and your telling me ALL the vets went HOME? And she said we could simply come back tomorrow and check? If she wasn t ready why would she be up for adoption? Luckily when we showed up the next day after another 40 minute drive down in south Austin traffic they said she was ready it took about 40 minutes to get everything sorted so we could take her home just for them to last minute not be sure if she was spayed even though all of her papers said she was? Ridiculous I m just glad we got her.

We were more than happy to wait a few extra minutes when the wonderful staff offered a free microchip (standard procedure for them). Our doge's chip has been MIA for a while now. They took great care of him! Thank you!

I went through the process of adopting a cat here and was so impressed by the process, the volunteers, and everyone we worked with. The volunteers obviously care about the animals- some know each by name and story- and the people who work there are gentle and loving to each little buddy! It was easy to work with everyone and they provided great care and as much information as they had about our little guy.

They are so great! I unfortunately had to drop a young lady there that I rescued. They were great with her and I could check on her to see when she got adopted. They are an asset to Austin.

We just adopted a dog from Austin Animal Center and I was so impressed with the facilities, the staff, and how friendly everyone at the center was. We already have a dog, and they let us do a meet and greet at the shelter to assure both dogs would be happy and friendly together!

I took a dog to surrender and basically was told that I have to jump through hoops in order to surrender this dog. This is not my dog I took him in as a possible rescue in order to try and find him a better home I could not a friend said they would take him but unfortunately they did not take care of him collect him and he gets kicked around and is just left in the yard to fend for himself. I took him to the shelter thinking that they would take him in and take care of him properly Unfortunately they told me it would be at least 6 weeks before they could possibly find a place for him. I walked out without setting the appointment and at this point it's not my fault if this dog ends up as a straight among all the other thousands of stray dogs headache it's still going to be two months before they can do anything about it. It's really ridiculous that they want me to continually leave him at a place that I know it's not good for him let the dogs. So much for being a great animal loving City

I adopted my dog here one year ago. This facility is amazing. I just go here as a fun activity because it's so nice. It's so clean and well cared for. They have a really clear system in place for which animals can be interacted with and in what way. Their large dog kennel suites are amazing. I've never seen an animal here that looked uncomfortable as far as the care provided. Everyone is always super helpful and excited to answer any questions you might have. Their website is also quite nice and straight forward. When I adopted my dog the process was very clear and easy, nothing felt confusing or ambiguous. Just all around a good operation going here.

What is not to love? Well run. Clean. No kill. Lots of animals that need new homes being taken care of until they find their new family. The only hard part is there is so much more need that one person can deal with. Still, taking a 15 year old cat because kittens go fast but adults take a long time and thatd kind of weird because as an adult you can see their personality. The cat today lives people. Snuggler. Purrs every time.

My husband and I adopted our two kittens from the center. Everyone was so helpful, and kind. Our kitties, Rascal and Shadow, are precious and we are so grateful for the work of the Austin Animal Center.

This is a wonderful place. They treat the animals well. They have signs on all the cages/pens to let you know if it's OK to play with the animal, get help with the animal, or stay away. Lots of dogs and cats, but the gave some rabbits too. If you're looking for a pet in the Austin area, head there.

Thank you for taking such great care of our sweet girl until we met her! The staff was wonderful to work with and the adoption process was clean and simple. Would definitely recommend over Austin Pets Alive!

This is no ordinary animal shelter. The buildings and facilities are gorgeous and extremely well maintained. Quality of life for the animals in this shelter far surpasses my expectations. The animals are well cared for by a loving, vigilant, and knowledgeable staff. On my first visit I was immediately assisted, finding the dog that we came in was very quick. I mention this because the large size of the facility might feel overwhelming, but the staff dispenses of that feeling completely. The atmosphere of the center is always quite warm and inviting. If you are thinking of adopting or volunteering , this is a great place to do so.

Ability to leave a found but loose and lost dog impossible because location not marked. No signs for where drop off is located. Totally inaccessible for disable or elderly. Outdoor admission process in the cold. I could not bring the dog contained. Too big and very energetic, uncontrollable and drop off too far from parking location. So not sure how much this will benefit someone else but I will be written management.

My wife and I found a dog at 6 pm in Pflugerville ...

My wife and I found a dog at 6 pm in Pflugerville and wanted to do the right thing to find the owner. Called here to ask about drop off and chip scan options. Woman stated we can take the dog but we close at 7pm . My wife told them we are rushing that way and would be there by 6:50pm. Arrived at 6:49pm after a 40 minute drive and the doors were locked, lights were off and they were closed. They knew we were coming, they closed early and now we have a dog that we can t take care of. What are we supposed to do? Just leave them on the road? Horrible experience for trying to do the right thing. The workers should be ashamed of themselves. You close at 7pm, not 6:50pm.

Drove from San Antonio to this place in order to drop off a blind dog I had found on the street and looked after for a few days. I tried numerous no-kill shelters in San Antonio (all to no avail), checked him for a microchip, and hung flyers near where he was found in hopes that he would be claimed. Upon further inspection of this poor dog, it became clear that he showed signs of neglect- his blindness seemed to have been caused by untreated cataracts, he had no collar or microchip, and he had ingrown nails digging into his pads making it difficult for him to walk. I had gotten his nails clipped and he was walking somewhat better, but it appeared as though the dog had arthritis. Seeing that the dog was in pain and showed this signs of neglect, I decided i probably shouldnt wait around for neglectf owners to claim him, and instead figured it'd be best to take him someplace where he'd recieve medical care ASAP.

I, perhaps naively, figured the dog's unfortunate condition, the donation I offered, and the effort I went through ensure this dog would get proper care and a chance at life (unlike he had with his previous owners or at the San Antonio pound, which euthanizes to make room for more animals) would be more than enough for this shelter to take him in. After all, as a no-kill shelter, they care about animals in need, right? Not exactly.

A lady turned me away simply because he was not found in Travis County. With regard to his ingrown nails, she said "maybe he just doesnt like getting his nails clipped" (if this was the case, how was I able to get them clipped??) She eventually acknowledged the previous owners showed neglect, but still said that it didnt matter. To add to the matter, she said "I mean we are considered a no-kill shelter but sometimes we do euthanize," as though reminding me how I wasted my time driving up there would be of any consolation to me. This lady, who refused to accept him, had the nerve to tell me that by taking him off the streets, it was my responsibility to ensure he gets taken care of. Did really I needed to be reminded of this after driving for over an hour, through the rain, to give this dog a chance at being taken in by a no-kill shelter? Should I have turned a blind eye on a BLIND dog wandering the traffic-ridden streets of San Antonio in the South Texas summer heat?

All this place cares about is getting dogs back to their owners, regardless of whether or not these owners are good owners for their pets. Less dogs on their hands, less to worry about. They'd rather have a dog die in the streets (as long as it doesn't die in Austin's streets) or continue to be mistreated by its owners than have one less space in their facility for a healthier, more adoptable (and by extension, lucrative), locally-found dog. A dog in need is a dog in need, what does it matter the city in which he was found? You'd think an animal "shelter" would not let this suffering dog go back to his previous neglectful owners or die on the streets, but the Austin Animal Center would.

If I could care for this dog, I would do it in a heartbeat. He's EXTREMELY sweet, but circumstances do not permit adding another dog to the family.Yes, he has special needs, but he still deserves to be cared for throughout the remainder of his days. It's a pity Austin Animal Center was not willing to give that to him when I, a guy trying to do good by this loving, helpless dog, couldn't any longer. As heartbreaking as it is for me to do, the little guy will likely end up on death-row at the San Antonio pound. Despite my sincerest and best efforts, I couldnt prevent him from becoming yet another martyr of the plight of stray, lost, and neglected dogs everywhere.

Whether your adopting, dropping off, or fostering, the A.A.C. team are great with the pets. Found a large breed puppy, wanted to Foster her but didn't have the resources to feed her & treat her flea problem, they gave her a large bag of high protein food & box of Frontline. They have the tools to help. Thanks to Mary for great experience.

We adopted our kitty Hunkules during their Kittypalooza event. The process was a little longer but that was because our kitty was on a stray hold. In all 3 women helped with the whole process. The volunteer in the cat area was incredible. She gave us so much time to get to know him and helped in finding information for us on him. She truly loved the animals she helped. Applying and picking him up both ladies we interacted with were kind and super helpful. They truly were just excited for us to add this kitty to our family.

Tried to turn over a dog I found, waited two hours then was told by one of the workers there that the shelter was awful and I was better of leaving the dog on the streets. Not sure what to make of that.

Very clean facility, very nice staff. Lots of dogs, cats, bunnies, and other assorted animals. The dog area was very clean and well maintained. Definitely a great place to look for a new pet, but also take a look at the Austin Pets Alive downtown.

Came here for a volunteering event with my company. I ll admit, any animal shelter is going to be sad to come to, but this place takes very good care of their animals. They have many many dogs and cats that could use a good home. I came here to help walk the big dogs and the small dogs as a volunteer I would encourage everyone to come here and volunteer to these sweet animals. Some of them are scared and need some extra love. I will be back to volunteer here for sure.

Amazing facility. Lots of options, plenty of room for all animals, tons of volunteers everywhere. I could go on and on, but just go to it. It's a great place and they take their adoption process very seriously, but you can just go and play with some dogs and cats for a bit too.

I love AAC!! I have adopted every one of my pets from them. The process is super simple, and you actually get some play time with your potential pet. For the cats, you can go back hold, and play with the kitten in these little pods. The dog kennels are pretty big, and have a little play yard for them to come in and out of the buidling. The dogs also have a play yard where you can spend some time getting to know them before you make a decision. They take EXCELLENT care of these animals. I have never once been to AAC and had a bad experience. Everyone there is so dedicated to the cause, and truly wants these animals to go to good homes.

I live in Washington state and visited with family members who live in Texas. What a fantastic facility and well run. It's obvious that the animals are well cared for. Wish all shelters could be as well run as yours.
