Nice shanty town worth a visit of a couple of days minimum to have an understanding of what is like. If I would have to go back to India once more I'd love to spend much more time than 2 days in Auroville.

Peace Place. You should Walk 1 km to see the Globe. Nice greenery nature. But the price for staying there is too much and rent for the vehicle is very high. Otherwise all are good. Many foreigners are visiting. Many french peoples. Clean places. When you come pondicherry visit this beautiful architectural globe. Make a pass arrangement before itself for visiting inside the globe. It's a meditation place. You love it. That's all !!!!

One of the visiting spot in Pondy.. Have to take right turn before entering Pondy ( after crossing Pondy Univ) while coming from Chennai.. Place for peace and meditation.. Can enter into the place without pre-registration. However to go very near to the globe must book in advance.. Calm and peaceful atmosphere.. well maintained.. adequate parking space..

Pathetic food, clean place, over priced parking and food. To see matri mandir, the walk and effort is definitely not worth it. Public entry inside the dome is restricted. Not worth visiting.

Heya!!!

Heya!!!
I think we all are aware of Rishi Aurobinda and his well known ASHRAM. So, basically the photos which I've posted are of the world famous Matrimandir and Auroville. I just can't find how to describe the whole thing cause it's just beautiful ! You'll find people from all over the world and their dedication towards this life! The scenic beauty of Matrimandir drove us crazy! You'll get area for car parking and a lot of handicrafts stall at the entrance. As u go inside and towards the main area that small road full of trees will leave u awestruck. Mobile phone and cameras are allowed here but not in Auroville. At Matrimandir u will get to know about many things on life and will just amaze u. There are post cards, quotes by Aurobinda written on, which u can buy, books are available for sell also many hand made products. In true sense u will find peace over there, it's hard to leave the place and walk away.
Talking about Auroville, the whole area belonged to the Portuguese, who were ruling at that time. You will find roads names written on Portuguese. Before entering into the Ashram, u will find one lady who sits at the opposite side of the Ashram road managing shoe racks and providing water to wash hands and legs before entering. Here the scene is completely different. You have to switch off you mobile phones and no camera. All have to maintain pin drop silence unless the time u are exiting. The inside is so well decorated. You will see Rishi Aurobinda's "samadhi" where everyone is praying in a certain manner. You can sit there no matter how long u want but maintaining complete silence.
There also post cards and books available which are for sell.
No wonder one will find peace once entering into that beautiful place.
So, I recommend, if u haven't visited the place then make up ur mind, book tickets and just goo...
Thank me later

Could see only from a distance. The rule of getting prior permission, effectively makes the entry to the main dome closed. That takes away all the excitement of walking 2 km in sun to reach it and leaves a sense of disappointment.
Visitor entry should be open to inside th e done, if it is to become popular tourist spot

The place is not as good as it has been hyped. Shopping is limited and they have mainly useless items like lot of agarbattis.
Prices are high and variety limited. So big disappointment for shopping, curios.

Will give 4 star of forest ambience. Well maintained but vague sort of place. Neither great spiritual experience nor physical pleasure.
