I previously loveed the zoo due to the amount of animals and how much it cost but now that I haven't been there a for a while I decided I would go.There are not as many animals and some of them look sad. They are continuing to work to build it bigger but for now I'd say it's pretty much ok.

The place is great, and the temporary Bugs exhibition was mind blowing. They even have kiwis! The only reasons why I don't give them 5 stars is because: a) too large area under redevelopment at once, b) the map/schedule is too confusing, it's difficult to navigate, I got lost many times and it was the map's fault, it's not well done and the indications are poor.

A lot of the animals weren't even there and there is no way of telling if they're just not there for the day or if they are hiding away or tucked away somewhere out of view. Overall, a great experience for all animal lovers.

A lot of things under construction or improvements!
Far too expensive for myself (as a pretty senior' senior citizen) to take each of my three sets of grandchildren to Auckland Zoo, after many visits over the years taking their parents there and their friends when they were kids!
I liked the compounds designed with the animals natural environment in mind!
This last visit may be my final one . . . .
Unless I win Lotto! I could then also give a serious donation to the Zoo's upkeep!

Always a fun place to go with the kids. Good place to walk around the springs lake too. Some amazing very old long fin eals in the waterways. Lots of birds that enjoy a bite of your sandwich if they get to close... so watch out! Plenty for the kids to do and play with to burn up some energy.

I very much enjoyed the kiwi house, and the chance to hobnob with the various parrots in the giant aviaries. I don't know that it would take up a full day, and some of their audio gear for the tiger talks might need going over, but it's good clean fun for the whole family.

Also, they sell poop to take home.

If you love to see animals up close, then the Auckland Zoo is the place for you! As you enter, there is a safari-like experience, with giraffes, zebras, and other animals roaming around freely in the center.

However, as Auckland can get REALLY sweltering hot, there should be more shade-providing facilities and more drinking water spots for the poor animals. It feels so bad to see them under the sun.

I'm really impressed with Auckland Zoo. Their habitats are large and the animals really do seem looked after. My best tip would be to see all the talks of the biggest animals. They usually food them to get them active which causes for a better time and better photos! If there's a gap between time just use it to see other animals or lunch. Always a good time there.

In spite of the major construction work at the zoo at present, the rest of the zoo is lovely. The elephants eating, and the lions roaring gave us a great show.
Loved the lizards and tortoises. The giraffes were waiting to go back inside as the afternoon cooled off.
We had coffee and scones and the staff at The Elephant House Cafe were polite and friendly.
We've been to zoos in England and Europe and we think Auckland is as good as any we have seen.

The new cafe and Orangutan enclosure is amazing. Still undergoing major construction but it will be amazing once finished. Kids love the play park. Very busy during school holidays. Get a yearly pass and go anytime. It's well worth it.

Unfortunately after Melbourne zoo you are really hard pressed to find something better. The zoo was lovely with lots of beautiful separate areas to explore and was good for a small town zoo

I love coming here with my daughter and wife. My daughter loves roaring at the lions and trumpeting at the elephants! We were gifted a one year pass as a Christmas present, and it's one of the best gifts we've ever received. Thoroughly recommend, one of the best zoos I've ever been to, excellent enclosures.
