So informative and very interesting even if you don't know much about WW2. If you're into history or want to further your knowledge, this is a great way to hear a personal story from the time and find out about how the war affected Amsterdam. A good description and background of the events in the 30 minute program before you go into the museum. Crowded but worth it. I definitely recommend buying tickets in advance as the line to get in is VERY long.
Altough i wasn't really accointed with Anne Frank's history (haven't read the book yet), the museum did a really good job explaining everything throughout her story and quotes. Its really touching, as you can even see real objects and (Spoiler) flyers/images she used to poste on her bedroom's wall.
Would totally recomend it. Bought tickets on the internet, so just a little queue to get in the scheduled time. Not really expensive ( 9) and really worthy (up to 2 hours) but kinda sad experience.
The museum is very well made and kept alot of the history showcasing it in an intelligent way. Highly recommend it
Very humbling experience. difficult to comprehend the rise of the right wing again in europe. hope humanity never makes the same mistakes again.
*WARNING ON TICKET TIME*
Tickets are ONLY available for online purchase.
They will only allow you to queue at the exact time of your ticket. So if your time is 830, they will not allow you to even queue until 830.
It was a nice historical tour. Must see? I guess it depends on your sense of history. The audio guide is a small device you have to hold up to your ear. It's a bit of a distraction at times, and can start hurting your ear while holding it up.
It's also very quiet in the house. There's only one path to go, so once you start you're in until the end. No Pictures Inside!
Was a very good recreation of life during the war in my opinion.
Suggest to go on a early time to avoid the crowd. Remember to purchase your ticket 1/2 month before visit the place.
Overpriced, not much to see besides the open diary, if you're interested in the story you can find it on the internet but you probably already know it
One of a kind museum, you get to know something about the Jewish history, thank God there were no mentions of the state of Israel, because I seriously don't think Anne would ever stand with what Israel have done since it's creation. You will mostly be feeling sad when you get out! RIP Anne.
The intersection where the horror of the past, and the hope for the future meet. Absolutely incredible job of leading us through that time with the Frank family. Do not miss this!
A truly moving and amazing place, recommend to all.
It was interesting but lots stairs so if not good on feet not very good.
Sad story reminder of human cruel nature and hate but same time such strong will to live and enjoy life .
One of the most moving experiences of any museum. She has been an insperation to generations of people. Buy your tickets early online so you can go into the museum.
This exhibit is well done. The experiences of this family are sobering and tragic. A young energetic girl never had the opportunity to grow up and become the writer she wanted; however, because of her love of writing we have a first hand account of the arrogence of a man leading by fear, the hatred toward a peaceful group of people trying to make their way in this world (as we all are), and the senselessness of war.
Nice museum. It provides free audio guides. Quite popular so there s a perpetual queue outside the place. The rooms are tiny being the actual hiding place of Anne and her family. Tickets are only available online. You can choose what time you d like to enter. They are strict when it comes to allowing you to enter when it s not your scheduled entry time. We saw a few people who were turned away for missing their scheduled time of entry.
I went in with a big smile hoping for fun, what I had was a taste of the most powerful reality that ran trough my veins. The most shocking thing my eyes have seen, it is too impressive what you learn from the tour. It literally made me cry. One of the must go places around the world.
This was a sobering experience for me. They tell the story of Anne Frank, her family, and the other Jews who were hiding from the Nazis during world war II. You can see her writing which gives you an idea of who she was. She was a young girl who liked Hollywood stars. She looked forward to a happy life. Sadly intolerance and hate took her life and destroyed her dreams like it did for so many others. This is a must visit if you are in Amsterdam. Hopefully the museum can continue to remind people that the events of the Holocaust should never be forgotten.
Did the 30 minute program beforehand which gave great context to the Frank story and regional history.
I m giving five stars because any less would honestly be embarrassing. It s very educational and informing. They were under construction when I went and unfortunately made the experience not ideal but can t fault them for it. It truly is worth a visit to go see exactly what it was like and materialize her story instead of only knowing it as a history lesson.
Your trip to Amsterdam is not complete without a stop by the Anne Frank house. It s a very moving and emotional journey through the very place where the Franks and other families hid from the Nazis. Lots of items from that time are still there and can be seen up close.
Very moving. Important to book online ahead of time to avoid a very long line to get in.
Very moving. It is a great reminder of what humans are capable of doing to other humans so that we may learn from their mistakes.
Amazing very moving. The image of otto in 1960 I could of stared at for hours this one image sum's it up xx buy tickets before you go tickets round the block xx
8 people his for 2 yesrs were captured and 7 died. 4 people risked their lives to keep them safe. The success of this museum is that it does not pretend that Anne Frank was the only child killed for being a Jew, but we can perhaps more easily understand the stories of the millions of others who died too, whether told or not. Do go.
This place was very popular. Only place we visited in Amsterdam with a line to get in. About a 30-40 minute wait.
It's unbelievable that 8 people managed to survive for just over 2 years here. Seeing the diaries that Anne Frank wrote was amazing just so sad what happened to her and her family
Loved how it was set up. Exciting stuff. Speaks so much history.
It's a very beautiful museum. If you ever read the diary of Anne Frank you should visit this one time in your life. There is always a long queue, but you can avoid long waiting if you book tickets online.
A real historic and unforgettable place - a must-see for everyone. Go, learn and find yourself in disbelief on this journey of the past.
Contextualised the book and the history. Excellent!
We didnt2get the chance to tour it. Same day ticket line was hours long. If you plan to go i suggest ordering tickets online months ahead of time.
To say the Anne Frank house is a wonderful attraction, seems to belittle the fact that Anne and her family went through a horrific experience at the hands of an evil empire.
Yet, at the same time the way the subject is treated and the journey that you're brought on as you enter the environment that protected these Jewish hideouts in the midst of Nazi occupation, is incredibly well done.
The curators have done an amazing job at telling the story of what happened duringthat horrific time in history, as well as explaining the story of a family with a very unique little daughter who was able to journal throughout her hiding.
If you're coming from abroad or if you're even a local, make sure you order your tickets online and in advance. Then arrive 15 minutes early and stay to the right hand side of the crowds as you're facing the entrance. You'll be admitted so as to evenly distribute people throughout the house.
Unfortunately the house is less friendly to those who have physical disabilities. There are steep climbs of stairs (because remember this was a hideout), and access to the full experience is not possible for those who can't make the climb.
That being said if you're curious about what actually happened during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, you should visit. It's an important and deeply emotional experience for those curious seekers visiting Amsterdam.
Be prepared to wait for a long time but totally worth it
Visited this place 25 years ago when it was an unspoilt piece of history now its totally ruined money grabbing ugly glass and metal monstrosity
It's so magic to be there. I wanted to went in but if you want to do it you have to do a reservation months or weeks ago. The place is so crowded and the lines too large.
Busy, busy, busy. Need to purchase tickets 6 months in advance. A well known story from history with a lot of information upon visit.
Long line but it's worth it, an experience that you have to take if you are in Amsterdam.
Very educational and a must visit when in Amsterdam.
Definitely worth a visit, but remember to make a reservation in advance. I went there at 8:30 pm, the venue was still pretty packed. Audio guide was included with the ticket, giving you detailed information about Anne Frank and the background back then.
Although sad, loved learning the story behind Anne Frank
The tour was well-organised. It was very informative. The venue was clean and well-maintained. I will come back with my family.
I so wanted to see this place but it needs careful planning. You have to pre book, tickets are limited and online is the only mode. I could only see the outside.
A place to go see when in Amsterdam, both sad and great that she is remembered as is all of the holocaust dead and survivors.
Very informative. I recommend not doing the last tour as we didn't get to see everything.
The Anne Frank house is always well cared for and a visit is a must when you go to Amsterdam
I don't know how you could rate this any thing but 5 stars. You have to experience it yourself.
Have to do this at least once. Such a strong reminder to everyone.
I wish I could get tickets. Plan with 2 months before the trip so you guarantee your online only tickets
The hype is more than reality; I was rather underwhelmed.
Amazing, particularly for those who don't know very much about Anne Frank's story.
A sensitively constructed memorial to not just Anne and her family but to all Jews who were murdered as a result of 'The Final Solution'. As you learn more about Anne, the reality that this is just one story of millions becomes all the more stark.
Extremely good experience for those interested in the world war and how it effected civilians
Anne Frank museum was so moving. We we're blessed with a survivor in our group, who shared his experience with our group. Thank God for these survivors.
I am hesitant to even give this place 4 stars. The reason I don't feel like giving this place a good review is because 90% of the Anne Frank house has been renovated and modernized. Not only did me and my wife have a hard time finding this place, I was asked by two random strangers where this place was as well. The outside of this building does not look like it is old. Once you get inside the home it is very bare and you kind of don't know where you are or what room is what. There are a few cool things that were untouched that I won't spoil for those visiting. But in the end I was disappointed because it didn't really feel like it was a home during World War II. I do however want to give a few stars towards the efficiency of the tour. They had these devices that connected to a dot on the wall and you hold this device up to your ear like you're on the phone. It was quite efficient and it kept it quiet for those wanting silence. But it doesn't make up for the super modern entrance, exit, and practically the entire building.
Very moving experience! Make sure you get your tickets online well in advance as no tickets are sold at the museum itself. Very informative audio guide is includes in the ticket. No photographs allowed inside.
very sad and emotional... tried to imagine how it was to hiding from Nazis soldiers for so long...
very good and interesting. you may want to get there in the morning before it opens because there is normally a giant queue. this place is very well known
I think that this place is an important visit in Amsterdam. It's allows to imagine how was the life during the second war world. The whole description that Anna gave in her diaries are shown in this place. It has a free audioguide in several lenguages. I recomend you book your tickets advance
Interesting tour to get to know more about Anna Frank. Should visit here when you are in Amsterdam
Great tour. Expected the actual annex to be older and more broken down. But I understand the "fix-up" for safety's reasons.
In the first half of the museum you read all about the situation and the people and then you enter the house. In the end there s a small section on the other Jews of Amsterdam around that time. Overall, it takes about 1-1:30 hr to complete the visit.
It s totally worth visiting if you have read the diary or have some extra time in Amsterdam.
It s a good idea to read the Anne Frank diary before visiting the house, it adds emotions to the rooms, improving the experience.
arrive early in peak season, the queue can longer than usual
Book ONLY online now. No more walkups apparently. If you are going during a busy time book ahead. It is a must do but I also must recommend the Jewish Walking Tour to go along with it. Separate company 360 Amsterdam for 27. 2 hours but way more informative and 60% of the discussion is about Anne and the Frank family.
Yes, you need to visit here. It is worth the wait. Just go!
Tickets are released hourly with lots of people's thumb on their keyboards and cellphones. It is difficult to order tickets. One needs to know when to order tickets.
An amazing place that teaches you so much about world war 2 through the view of a young girl, Anne Frank. Going here is an unimaginable experience that you have to experience yourself
You have got to visit this place. Though it gets very busy so I'd recommend you get there about 6am or book tickets about three months early on their website.
Very well done. Shared space and information just as moving as you might imagine
Very moving experience. Well done museum. You must book tickets ahead of your visit. Arrive a bit early for your projected time slot, then move through using the free audio guide. Extraordinary. Note, small purses only. Otherwise bag check (but not for luggage, just backpacks and such).
Definitely my most favourite experience while in Amsterdam, so much history, and a free audio guide that explains in detail each room you go into, really recommend visiting!!
Deeply moving museum. Highly recommend despite the long waiting time- it is worth it! :)
Very unique experience and would urge people who are thinking about going to go! Had an amazing experience
Anne was one of them, now is one of us.
It was heart breaking
You must book online well in advance, they do have some tickets on the day but everything is done online. I was there at the 9am opening visit & the queues were quite long before it opened. I d recommend you don t take a bag or a very small one as you d need to check anything bigger in the cloakroom. You can avoid the cloakroom queue & just walk straight through if you don t have anything.
You do need to take a guide as there is very limited signage inside.
a place that could tell us a story of mankind, and remind the world what war could destroy
