The staff is not competent at all. You get served other people s food, tables don t get cleaned and saw a customer cleaning it herself while the staff was doing absolutely nothing behind the bar. When food is served you have to eat it with your hands because you are not provided with any cutlery and some staff members are not able to differentiate table numbers. Over all it has been a terrible experience and table next to us asked for a refund, as it took almost an hour to get the food ordered. You would expect the place to be busy as located in a touristic and central location, but there is plenty of staff who unfortunately is not trained well enough. I also wish we took pictures of toilets, which were flooded.

The service here was disappointing. We started off on the balcony where they informed us we couldn t order food to. I then tried to order 2 sandwiches, and the young lady behind the bar told me I couldn t order sandwiches on a Sunday. Surely a sandwich is quite easy to make!
I then ordered the food and she accidentally added in 2 portions of onion rings, which was then followed by a long wait for another staff member to come and amend the order on the machine.

The food was very good, but I was served by very unpleasant bar staff and am not keen to visit again.

Excellent location just next to the river Thames. Great traditional pub serving excellent food on multiple floors and hidden rooms. Very good choice of beer, including cask at very reasonable prices taking into account it's central location.

Loved the vibe and the atmosphere in this historic pub next to the Globe theatre.
The beer selection is great and there are plenty of seats and tables so grab your pint and make your way around the pub to make yourself comfortable.
The food menu is vast and includes all the pub classics.
They also have sitting outside to enjoy the view when the weather allows for it.
If you are in the area stop by for a pint and you'll be sure to enjoy it.

Great pub with amazing historic features and a superb riverside location. Plenty of outside space by the Thames, with a second bar outside...but expect to wait some time to get served (just for drinks) on a sunny day, and to have trouble finding a seat: bar staff, stewards and security people work very hard to keep things moving but get overwhelmed when it's busy. Still one of my favourite spots for a drink when in the City.

The location is good for a postprandial saunter down the Thames embankment (outside terrace on the river for warm days) and the establishment has vague reminiscences inside of Old English charm; but don't expect gourmet food. Middling pub fare for when you want a brief change from your healthy diet!

Ordering was a little slow at the bar, but it was busy so not a big deal. Food came out quick and was very good (fish/chips and scampi/chips). The smashed peas were very good! And we enjoyed the Old Mont Ciders on tap.

The atmosphere is fun. The drinks are fine. The food is bad. It tastes as if everything has been sprinkled with some kind of vinegar or balsamic. Gave it a chance on a few occassions and its always been dissapointing.

I met him during a stroll along the riverbanks on a sunny Sunday!
Great affordable beers! Clean environment, polite staff and, at least on the day, there was a "street performer" playing live music next to the PUB.
I had no chance to order any kind of meal

A pub. By Thames.

A pub. By Thames.
Enjoy this one with a sunny weather since it gives you the possibility to sit outside, by the Thames.

Situated on one of the most historical reaches of the Thames, the Anchor Bankside lays claim to fascinating, and somewhat gruesome historical associations. The Anchor offers a very warming and friendly environment perfect for any occasion. Join us at any time for some great traditional British classics! If you are feeling peckish we also have a great selection of delicious dishes to tantalise your taste-buds. Take in the delightful riverside views of the Thames with a drink at the Anchor Bankside!

One of the oldest pubs in London, almost 4 centuries old! The food is good and the beer is great. The service is also quite good, although you have to order at the bar. They have plenty of room and tables, and a terrace too.

Still a great pub & restaurant despite minor changes over the last 50 years, insignificant in the hundreds of years it has been here. Food, drink & interior interesting and of high standar Riverside terrace with great views is a bonus in summer.

This is one of the oldest pubs on banks side. Great location, has an old London charm to the interior ambience.
You can choose to sit outside on sunny days or sit inside for that cosy feeling.

Great pub, especially during the summer. They have a small cozy roof terrace with good views of the river, and an outside terrace. Perfect for enjoying the sun and the street artists. Food is also good and reasonably priced.

I don't like to leave bad reviews but I feel compelled because the Anchor is in a prime location visited by many tourists and we really did have an awful experience.

The two female bar staff were the most pissed off I've ever seen a customer service person behave! Rude and short and like being there was the worst curse that could have happened to them! Is it really that hard to get proper staff that are at least normal? Also the food was very mediocre, the place was so dirty everywhere... We had a very disappointing experience!

What a shame! It looks beautiful from outside.

Being on the bank, you could easily tell it was a tourist hot spot of a pub. However, the prices were reasonable for London and the service was quick. Giving it 4 stars as we sat outside, but there were no space heaters(on) . Bit nippy by the waters edge.
