Alpine Valley was awesome and I would definitely stay there again! They need more ice machines & there were no elevators that I'm aware of. That didn't bother me, but it was difficult for some members of our party with health issues. Also wish there was better lighting in our room, but otherwise everything was great.

2nd year here, getting the family room with a large group is lots of fun. Wish they enforced the no kids under 6 in the hot tub rule, the clear hot tub was murky Saturday night because the pool had a heater issue so every parent just let their little kids play in the hot tub. But every other time it's been beautiful. Only other suggestion would be the addition of a tubing run. I have friends that don't ski but still come to hang out and have fun, tubing would be nice.
Loved it! New to the area... this place is off the beaten path, staff was super friendly, slopes were not busy, & rentals/lessons were really affordable. Not a lot of elevation, but really enjoyed it. Will DEFINATELY return this season!
My kids had a great time skiing this ski season. Enjoyed the music/bands upstairs in the main bar while waiting. Servers were always very friendly. The only issue I have is the parking lot. There are multiple, huge, pot holes everywhere and it is muddy/slushy where it s not paved. Hopefully, they can fix these pothole issues over the Spring/Summer. It is a safety issue. Last year it was bad, but this year it is even worse.
Thanks to Cascade Mont this place has a lot less population, which means faster gear-up, shorter waiting time for lifts while has equivalently good of everything else. Also, for starters the beginning area is way bigger and more friendly.
Alpine is convenient for Chicago land. They build terrain well but have a lot of freeze and thaw. Mid week deals are a plus but they lose points for charging for toddlers. No live cams but do occasional drone flyovers on YouTube.
Second time coming to this resort and a third will be happening. The rooms are cozy and nice and the staff are very kind and patient. Skiing here was a great experience, and I can t wait to come back next winter.
The RANGER is out to ruin your day. We got there and there was no one to man the bar and beverage cart was nowhere to be found. We stayed the night before for a show so opened the leftovers from the cooler in the parking lot.
The RANGER drove up to our car and told us what we were doing was illegal, we had to buy beverages from the staff on-site. We would ve been happy to if they were available.
No worries, we headed out on the course. The RANGER was constantly watching us, at times unnerving and waiting to make comments HEY 40 FEET FROM THE GREEN! When the signs said 30 feet.
An overall unpleasant experience due to the RANGER watching us constantly waiting to chime in if we nearly violated a course rule.
We got through without any infractions but won t be back if the RANGER is still there just waiting for you to violate a rule.
I really liked the place and the instructors. I have never done skiing before so I don t really know how to rate the place on that parameter. But definitely a good place to hang out.
Better than last year but... Additional Magic Carpet is great, better signs than last year ... and still great place to ski but lodges need remodeling, the hill would benefit from high speed chairs... fire pit is great but more would satisfy more people.. outside seating should be expanded... parking lot too... and maybe create a couple more runs... Lift attendants should encourage people to load chairs in full and more ski racks are needed plus a one more bridge over the stream would be great.
Dave B was an amazing trainer. He was very patient with our group of first timers and spent a lot of effort in making sure we learn while keeping us safe.
Great little place to go. It's not the Rockies, but we moved to central Illinois and this place is great for the area. There are a ton of lifts, so lines aren't too long. It did get crowded at times, but that's expected. Plenty of easier runs which I liked because I'm not the greatest on skis. Not very difficult overall if you're an experienced skier/boarder, even the "black diamonds" but it's enough of a challenge to be fun. Many options for lift ticket times/ prices . Rentals are easy to get. We stayed at the resort, it's not a 5 star hotel but it has a hot tub, friendly staff, and affordable prices.
Bit pricey, but I think Alpine has the most fun slopes in the area. Their park can be inconsistent though, something it is super fun, and sometimes there is a bunch of crappy jibs and one lame jump.
Not so far from Chicago. And they opened this year season even earlier than some midwest resorts great. Probably it could be better if they shift the hours off operation at the beginning of season for the earlier time
I was there to see Dead and Company on a Friday and Saturday nights. Friday nightvwas smooth as you could ask for. Saturday was a joke. They didn't have all the gates open letting people in and it took three times as long as Friday. Beers are super expensive even for a concert. Sound was amazing. View was amazing. Would 100% go see more shows there.
This is a very cheap ski resort, and the maintenance of snow trails and equipment is not bad. It is recommended that novices start with skiing, unless your sense of balance is good, skateboarding or skating experience is enjoyable, then it is more fun to recommend snowboarding. If you have unfortunately rented snowboarding, but found that it is not suitable, you can make up 10 yuan for renting skiing.
The best ski resort in the area. I have gone here several times and its always been a blast. They have slopes for all skill sets: beginner, intermediate, and expert. They are open for the most of the winter season and are open for the entire day on weekends.
Always a fun time at Alpine Valley. I go all the time for snowboarding. The staff here does an awesome job getting the hill ready as early as possible in the season.
Actually a really fun old golf course. Skiing, well I have ridden the west for years and I'm not impressed anymore. The lodge however had had some nice updates and seemed to be a nice place to hold events.
Was a great time with my group, paid $80 to be screamed at by "ski patrol" for falling down twice on a giant hill. Then practically detained by two red Cross people and a "supervisor" for skiing the "big" hill. Don't do the big hill unless your prepared to face the ski patrol.
Although Alpine Valley is not known for their Golf Course the 9-hole golf course the summit that they have is unbelievable please drive out and play you will be very shocked ortha drive and the money
It was just great. We drove from Chicago and we were worried about the weather, but it held off! The mountain was glorious. We stopped at Dunkin' Donuts in the morning before heading out which was also a 5-star experience. Highly recommend the big n toasty. Coincidentally, the mountain was also big n toasty; the snow was all man made and patchy in places but a great time for a first timer like me. We just loved it.
Overall it s a great place to go with the family. I liked the little bunny slope for my 3 year old. I wish there was a slope in between the bunny slope and the easy slope though. Only thing I didn t care for was the food court. The food was subpar fast food and there wasn t a lot of healthy options.
This is a great Midwest resort! As far a amenities and skiing opportunities it is the best in the Chicago Milwaukee area. We have stayed here for ski vacations and had a great time. The setting is beautiful and they maintain the runs. A great Terrain Park. Snow making equipment is second to none. Multiple high speed quads allow for a lot of time on the snow.
My experience was stupendous. They have a ton of lifts, 1 tow rope and a few magic carpet rides. They have boarding for just about every level and the snow was delightfully fluffy
The slopes here are a great cross-section of advanced (*by midwest standards), intermediate and beginner terrain.
By rocky, wasatch, Teton or sierra mountain standards, these would be blue runs. There's not a lot of moguls and there is 388' of vertical.
There are several decent quad chairs, there is a great beginner section with several small doglegs and also a medium-sized but good bunny slope with magic carpets.
We've never taken lessons here and ive never stayed at the inn, to me the room rates seem high - i located hotels nearby that were about 40% less, but convenience costs.
The resort staff are reasonable, ive never had any of them be overly friendly or rude. The locals riding here dont go out of their way to interact with visiting boarders.
The one ski patroller i interacted with was friendly and personable.
Of the resorts close to me, this one is the top choice for the slopes.
The cafeteria here is exceedingly basic, don't expect espresso or fancy capuccinos or paninis. Chicken tenders, burgers, cheeseburgers, chili, nachos, etc.
