Beautiful veiw are the theater. The parking situation leaving was enough to make me not want to go back.
Beautiful veiw are the theater. The parking situation leaving was enough to make me not want to go back.
No better place for snow lifts under a 2 hour drive from Chicago.
Good affordable golf course. Nicely wooded with lots of elevated greens.
My brother lost his lift ticket and we asked for a replacement ticket based off of the bank transaction history. They said no. We also asked if they could check their transaction history based off our credit card. They rudely told us no again. We had to buy another lift ticket ($50+). Great business model alpine valley, nice way of ripping off college students. Terrible customer service. Will never come back again and will be taking our business to wilmont ski resort. Permanently.
Edit: BTW nothing was done to get our money back so the comment you see below from alpine is all show... nice.
Great Southern Wisconsin Ski area. The runs are always groomed. It can get very crowded.
I went skiing here for a day. Good range of slopes, not overly difficult. It wasn't too busy for a Saturday so we were able to do all the slopes in a few hours.
Just went for snowboarding on Wednesday the slopes were well maintained and the terrain park was set up well. Also went in for a snack and the food was good too and even though it was busy there was enough room to sit and service was fast. Do wish that the super glide lift was open though since the only other one close to the terrain park is quite slow since it is older and also takes more trips for my group to get to the top. Otherwise it was a fun night.
Same place its always been. Others are finding ways to improve / expand. They need to keep up.
If you can get past the insane crowds on the weekends this place is a pretty fun ride. The terrain park is shout out to AVPC for all their hard work!
Ladies golf league at my 2nd home. Great course conditions
Was there to snowboard. Mountain is small but good enough.
This was my first time going to Alpine Valley and I liked it a lot! Better than Wilmot IMO. It's not as big as the other resorts further up North in WI, but their trails are nice. Only complaint is how long the lift lines are...didn't think I went on a particularly busy day either
Went skiing, hills where all open and well maintained.
Kids love to snowboard here, favorite place in the area.
Mountain bike trails: The mountain bike trails at Alpine Valley are outstanding. For Wisconsin, these trails offer a lot of climbing, providing a great physical challenge if you're looking to train. The trails also have a great mix of technical features and exciting flow sections. These trails also tend to dry out more quickly than others in southern Wisconsin following rain. Check them out! Tons of fun.
My kids love skiing here. It's a bit pricey without a joining a ski club and getting a discounted rate but overall the experience has been great the last two years. I also hope that they invest in credit/debit card acceptance for kids to eat. I sent my kids with their debit cards the first night of ski club not realizing they wouldn't be able to eat. It's crazy to find a place nowadays that doesn't accept plastic. =)
Typical Midwest ski conditions on man made snow. Great beginner area for the kids with several magic carpets. We will return.
Ski school for kids is great! My 8,5 yo learned to ski after just one 2hr class. And went straight after class to regular lift and continued sking. My younger 5,5 yo still needs some help, was bit scared but still enjoyed the class and wants to try again. I highy recomend to sign up for the earlier class (9 am) as later in a day there's more people everyone
Decent ski hill for the metro Milwaukee area, but quite possibly the rudest staff I ve ever encountered. Plenty of places nearby that are more worth the drive from Chi.
Staff here are either extremely helpful or totally useless. The most helpful people were the guys on the hill: ski instructor, lift attendants, ski patrol. The staff on the phone, in the equipment rooms, and behind desks weren't really helpful and some were just rude. The equipment room staff just followed their checklists and were not helpful in answering questions or deviating from their plan. For ski lessons: there are no signs even though you're told to follow them. For the lessons, walk around the cafe building and meet up by the sign.
Magic carpet on the bunny hill is a little rough, but the others we used were great. The bunny hill is super small which is great for learning. The attendants were really helpful with tips and tricks. They were friendly and cheerful! The ski instructor for the kids seemed a little overwhelmed, but friendly. I think they forgot to teach the kids how to get up when they fall though. The lift attendant ended up doing that after the lesson. The bunny hill magic carpet is turned off earlier than all the other hills.
Overall, it was an ok experience. We may go back again, but only if we can get a beginner hills only lift ticket.
The skiing was great. There was enough variety to keep everyone entertained.
Fun for all skill levels and ages. Cozy atmosphere in the resort
Very good place for begineers like me, all good, the price a bit expensive 75 $ (includes all the equipment for Sky or if you want to snowboard less cap or glasses) per person (beginner) but you can stay all day, what if It is bad is the food :(.
Good place for teaching the kids how to ski in the midwest. Various sizes of runs and use of a conveyor belt for ther beginner runs and couple of high speed quads.
Ski right into a river! Brilliant!
Too small, way over priced, poor snow quality.
Build a safer barrier at the bottom of the hill. Open more runs? Reduce your prices? Or at least invest in better/more snow making equipment.
We stayed in a room for one night and it was dingy and just not worth what we paid. Our wallpaper was literally hanging by threads. The patio we had was literally disintegrating. We couldn't open the patio door and took three people to actually open it. The door to enter the room was horrible. We had to literally slam it because it would get stuck otherwise. Probably not a place I'd go back to at all.
Great family oriented hill, sweet bar with perfect selection of beer and booze. Best hill in southeast WI.
We visited Alpine Valley resort to tour their wedding venue spaces. We are most likely going to choose Alpine for our wedding because of how beautiful of a space and how nice our visit was.
Skiing is pretty good, just wish they would add more to the terrain park.
Went for the day to snowboard with friends, asked for a all day pass and they only gave me the 8 hour pass. When i went to go back on slopes they turned us away. We only had to pay difference to upgarde but was still frusterating they should have clarified!! Other than that experience was good.
I'll come back and rerate this place after they're finished with the renovations
For a short course (even from the tips) very challenging. Great course to play. Have for en from Ohio twice to play it. Will be back again.
It's Alpine Valley!!! How could you not love this place.
Skiing was good for the midwest. High speed lifts were nice, although a few kept breaking making long lines worse. Chalet and food were good except for the toilets not flushing for half the day which made for no where to use the bathroom and nasty toilets.
I went as a chaperone for a middle school ski club trip. The kids had a great time and I enjoyed sitting in the lodge and relaxing by the fire. Staff was very friendly. Would have liked to see more comfortable seating such as arm chairs or couches.

Single track was awesome, nice facilities. 2 dollar trail fee. Was there for WORS cup 2017. Did not stay in rooms.
It is the largest sking and music venue in the area. The concert area is starting to come back. Hopefully it will get some high quality talent to play. The ski resort is very popular in the winter and the golfing is pretty good for the summer.
Great snowboarding. Love that they have deals during different days of the week.
Best place to ski close to the Milwaukee area. 35-40 mins from milwaukee.
Best ski resort in the area.
Easy drive from Chicago
The chair lifts are great, they get you to top of the hill so quickly!
-If your not going out west go to Alpine.
Went there to ski, had everything but poles and they were going to charge me full rental price just for those. Got it down to $10 but still way over priced. Hill was fun, lines were long but it was nice out
Haven't stayed overnight here, but the ski hill and food are good. Great terrain park and snowmaking. Only complaint is food and lift tickets are a bit pricy.
It was a great day on the slopes at alpine. Food was fantastic as usual!
Despite the recent warm weather there was plenty of snow, the runs were nicely groomed and all but one run was open.
Nice place and not too far away. They keep their hills well groomed! Staff are friendly and helpful being a senior and haven t gone skiing in a decade I was wrestling with my equipment when w/o asking a young lady showed me the best way to handle it. Thanks Haley and crew. I ll be back again.
Just biked the trail available during the summer and it was one of the best I've ever seen in wisconsin
Up for the day to snowboard. Slopes are about the best you can find close to Chicago. Only downside was the cafe only takes cash
Beautiful place, great customer service the staff is friendly. I was kinda lucky they are actually closed for the season but was able to get a room any how and had free roam of the place. Now before you jump to any conclusions on how i was able to get a room while they where closed, i drive truck and had a ski lift i was delivering to them so they offered to me a room for the night
Nice little place to ski, although the tickets are a bit pricey ($41 for 2-10 PM, even on weekdays). Great for day trips.
Broke my collar bone on my 5th run of the season here..cant wait to go back lol
Just as a point prior to this review. The review is strictly based on the recreational sports associated with the resort. This does not reflect the hotel or the staff.
As for a snowboard/ski resort, it is lacking on the sport part. The snow itself is extremely packed which did account for less resistance but allowed for more pain on impact. There is no clear gradient in difficulty of the courses with the exception of length. The steepness and tight turns seem to be the same across.
The lift were difficult to traverse. There was not much time for mounting and dismounting.
Lastly the rentable equipment and room was a shamble. It was small and pack and hard to move through and the equipment was raggedy and worn. I had numerous times where my boot straps slipped off while boarding.
Mountain is beautiful and well groomed. Staff was knowledgeable. Prices for lift tickets were fair.
Great Midwest ski hill. The people who work here are phenomenal. Took a private snowboarding lesson with my daughters. Scheduling was easy. They moved the time without a hassle. The instructor was great.
Spent 2 weekends here and it's a great time. Will definitely go again
Terrific rental services, as well plenty of slopes ranging in difficulty.
Alpine was great. Most of our group were rookie skiers but spending some time on the beginner hills helped them get their ski legs. Pretty organized check-in and rental process, lots of runs with enough variety to make the whole day an adventure.
Very fun place, staff is helpful when approached, but often seem somewhat distant. Great place to go.
We really enjoyed the golf. No bev cart on an 88 degree day but we survived. Very challenging especially the back 9 of summit. Very good service also.
PROS:
+ Best ski hill within 2 hours of Chicago (much better than Wilmot!)
+ Really good weekday deals (especially Tuesday)
+ Slopes are a lot of fun, especially the Black Diamonds (note: the black diamonds are equivalent to Intermediates at places like Cascade and Chestnut)
+ Great begineers area, with a lift ticket that is specifically for beginners but still lets them get on a proper ski lift
+ The 3 Detachable Quad lifts are really nice and helps make the small vertical rise a little easier to bare with
CONS:
- Super Glide lift usually does not operate on the weekdays, which makes accessing the eastern side of the trails hard to reach from the middle - would highly recommend management look into opening this on weekdays.
- Hill is only 388 ft, which while is the best within a 100 miles of Chicago, means that you can be done with a slope in 30 seconds
- Place is only 90 acres, which is small - even Wilmot is larger in terms of skiiable acres.
- Chairlifts do not include safety bar or footrests, which while not necessary (especially the detachable ones, where the ride is very short), would be nice for kids or for the slower fixed chairlifts
- Mohawk Chairlift is old and the owners should consider replacing it (maybe with another detachable lift?). The unloading station drops off too late, meaning that as skiiers, we were constantly hit in the back as the chair swings around the bullwheel.
DAY WENT: Tuesday, Feburary 11, 2020 10AM - 5PM
FAVORITE SLOPES:
Easy:
- Valley View
Intermediate:
- Timber Trail
Difficult:
- Lodge
- Broadway
- Shelter (I usually don't do Terrain parks, but the bumps were surprisingly fun to go over!)
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I was actually plesently surprised by how nice this resort was! It is quite small (again, only 90 acres and 388 ft), but they did a great job with the variety of slopes they had! I imagine it would be very busy on the weekends with all the Chicago traffic, but when I went, traffic was very managable. Love the detachable quads, which made the small height easier to work with as it only takes 2 minutes to get back up. The lodge is well kept and has plenty of ammentities. Would highly recommend as a place to bring begineers to before tackling the larger slopes like Cascade or Chestnut!
Golf course very beautifully built but not kept very well. Fairways not mowed and bunkers rocky.
A lot of ice. Lowkey broke my wrist, high key was decent. Kicked me outta the bar for being to drunk with a broken wrist. Overall wait till real snowfall, felt like concrete.
Good experience overall but seems to be understaffed during busy times in the bar and food service areas.
Great for viewing WORS cup right out the door... Close to everything. Definitely recommend it other than the $13 breakfast... Maybe half that amount
Alpine Valley hosts a race in the Wisconsin Off Road Series bike race and the resort is always a nice place to visit. The common areas are clean and the atmosphere is casual and fun.
