I was charged a $125 for a "no show" fee from this hotel. While I acknowledge I made a mistake with my booking dates, I immediately contacted them by phone within 3 minutes of making the booking and advised them of this mistake. No administration or house cleaning would have taken place in this 3 minutes, yet they still felt it necessary to charge a $125 "no show" fee. I then emailed them to consider their decision, but they felt it was necessary and justified to charge such a fee. Never booking to stay at this Mercure again.

I always stay at the Grand Mercure for longer stays, but for One night decided to try the welcome.. I was welcomed on arrival by staff who remembered me from 1 year earlier and bookin was a breeze. The room was small as expected and the decor was fresh. The bathroom was faultless. The A/C works not like the one from another chain i tried the previous trip... it was nice and cold. I had a room high up and well away from lifts and could hear no tram noise nor the night crowds.... I have given up trying other places and will just stay Mercure from now on. Thanks team for another great stay, even it was just for one night

We had a triple room 929 at the back so quiet and no traffic. Pluses friendly staff, location, bedding, beds. Minuses... Yep, as others have commented, those lifts are painful and the hot water was a no goer Monday morning after work rush hour. They accommodated a late checkout due to this, and called us when the problem was fixed.

Because of Chinese New Year we had to ring the hotel to confirm directions as the roads were blocked. Reception was very helpful and gave us an alternative way. Room was clean and quiet. The doorman/valet gave excellent service. However we were double charged valet parking by reception and 3 promises that a manager would ring back resulted in no calls. This has resulted in a disappointing aftertaste following a positive experience.

Very bad stuffing, bad service and they will hack your credit card information. Very unsecure place to use a credit card, unbelievable. Within 24 hours of using credit card to pay hotel bills, I loose thousand dollars by hacking my card information. After informing that they just rude with me, can't believe how they doing business here.

Terrible place, unhelpful staff. I lost my room card and they refused to help with another one, then after conceding defeat that I would now have to book another room in the middle of the night, I asked if they could at least get my gear out of the room, then they refused to get it for me. They held my own possessions for ransom over a room card!

Staff were good. Manager gave us bigger room closer to the lift but fully booked . The original room was tiny at the end of a long Narrow corridor and made my husband feel clastrophobic he refused to go into the room. The staff Annie and manager Marcus were very understanding and did the best they could for us. There was a limited breakfast choice. Poor service in restaurant with clearing tables. Room pictures on advertising is not what you get. Would not stay again.

The room that was advertised to us and the one we received was completely different, we received a superior room for extra, but we could hardly tell. Our room was tiny and wasn t even fully prepared when we checked in. Wouldn t recommend paying the extra money, no advertisements for what we received - our view was bad and disappointing, no point for a window at all.

The Mecure Welcome Melbourne is perfectly located in the middle of the vibrant heart of the city. Shops, restaurants right in front of the door and yet the hotel has a quiet atmosphere. It is only a few minutes' walk to Flinders Street Station, so you are well connected. The trams leave from right outside the front door.
The rooms are practically furnished and very clean. The WiFi works perfectly.
The service very friendly and helpful.
All around a pleasant experience.

We Stayed for two nights . The hotel is in a great location although there was a few things that let it down .The bathroom door was broken ,it was really difficult to open and shut. The hotel is noisy ,doors slam really loudly and you can hear people in the next room. Rooms are overall ok but they are a little bit small although it was great that there was a bar downstairs with pokies and drinks service.Overall it was ok, not sure if I would stay there again.

A little bit confusing. Sometimes you need a card to get to your floor sometimes you don't. If you don't have a card you can't even go to the ground level again. Place was clean and quiet so on that front is good

Fantastic! They helped when needed. Concierge - I was very impressed. Very local. When booking tours, be careful to check whether they are picking up outside hotel or not. I know from experience one of them didn't and my elderly mother was not good with walking a distance. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone. Just Brilliant - I'll be back - 100% for sure.

When I first joined Accor the welcome hotel would give me a room upgrade. The last few years no upgrade. The Ibis little Burke street always give me a room upgrade so I try to book with them before I even look at the welcome. I suspect the Ibis like me more than the welcome does. My last upgrade with the welcome hotel was when my alarm went off over 10 times in one night and my business partner went home and would not spend the second night at the hotel due to major headache. She has been a member for over 20 years

I have found this hotel not to be accessible for people who are blind or vision impaired.
But they don t seem to care. The number on the bedroom doors are not accessible because they are flat panel numbers which means a blind person can t feel the number they need to be raised numbers. I have raised these issues with them for a very long time now and it still has not been done. The other issues are that the Lifts when pressing the buttons do not talk. So I person such as myself who is blind with a seeing I dog does not know when they are coming up to the level of the room because the buttons do not talk.

Overall satisfactory - rooms are small but clean, food is ok (although I paid for breakfast and it was then advertised free during stay). The painters were in foyer but I understand maintenance has to be done. It is noisy - think it is because we had a room near the lifts.
I thought I was a member but have never received a membership card/number

Although I had done the online checkin and indicated I would arrive before 3pm, my allocated room was not ready. However, the desk clerk, Adeline, quickly found another room. She also booked the Skybus pickup for the following morning. I don't usually use the wi-fi but did on this occasion and was pleased to find it very quick and easy to log into. Breakfast next morning was as usual very good. When I checked out the desk clerk (sorry, I've forgotten her name) printed my boarding pass for my flight home. It was very useful to be able to store my luggage for the morning and the 2 young men in the room handled this pleasantly.

Probably the worst hotel I've stayed at. The best thing about it was the location. Close to everything but that was it. The pictures on the website are very misleading. The rooms are very outdated and looked like a prison cell. The shower had no screen door but a disabled seat lol. Airconditioning was very loud, beds were hard and room had a funny smell to it, just didnt feel clean. I requested to change rooms but they said they were completely booked out. Enough said I will not be staying here again.

Staff very friendly (check in, concierge, luggage storage, hotel switchboard).

Room was OK, good shower pressure and hot water - however found it strange there was no water mixer in the shower (instead two separate faucets, one for hot, one for cold). With the way the showerhead was pointed you either got a blast of hot water, or cold water when trying to get the temperate right). Fridge was very loud as it cycled it's cooling unit so we ended up turning it off at the wall - a bit inconvenient as we would have liked to use the fridge but valued our sleep more.

Great 'going green' initiative by giving credit for use at the restaurant in lieu of having housekeeping service the room. Used the credit to have a buffet breakfast at the Louden which was nice.

Elevators - at once stage waited 15 mins to get down - the elevators would stop on each level but be at max capacity, which slowed it down when being both in the lift, and waiting for a lift. Would have taken the stairs but when we asked one of the workers if it was OK she wasn't sure if an alarm would go off, or where the stairs led to at the bottom.

Best selling point of this hotel is the excellent location, on the doorstep to the Emporium mall and David Jones, H&M, Myer and Chinatown.

I found this place to be brilliant. The rooms were neat, tidy and good enough (Nothing fancy, but nice for the price). The breakfast was great, with an all you can eat buffet at a very reasonable price. The only qualm would be the singular working lift. With only one working, it took some time for it to arrive at the floor I was on. But all in all, my stay was very nice and I will without a doubt consider it again next time I go to Melbourne.

I have stayed several times in this hotel and it is most central to all transport, cafes etc. The rooms are
well maintained and clean, and the staff are always courteous and will give assistance with travelling times
on public transport, etc.

What a shocking hotel. Hated it. Tiny rooms with little ventilation.... service was appalling. Front office staff were slow off the mark. My room key needed to be replaced a minimum of 4 times, as it refused to work and open my designated door. No in house dining or gym facilities. Lifts were crammed and didn t respond to room key levels. Everything about it was wrong.

Never again:

Located in a very strategic place and very secured at night. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are clean as well. They have concierge desk to help us to book shuttle bus or any kind of service to airport. They also have secured parking lot. Even though the parking area is a block away, they offer relatively good price for parking. My family keeps coming back to this hotel whenever we reach Melbourne.
