Dingy tired corridors and room. View of concrete wall from window, noisy neighbours in nearby rooms. Awful access to shower, one was sprayed with cold water when turning on and temperatures fluctuated wildly as other guests showered. One shower at 0300 hour was ok. Having to smoke in dingy, dirty alleyways with homeless people ransacking ashtrays for butts was appalling

Close to Chinatown
Weirdest is they don't seem to have swept the room on our penultimate day

Staff are lovely and the breakfast is nice enough. Unfortunately the hotel has seen better days though. Interiors are horrid, there's no space to put down toiletries & you're in trouble if two people want to go down the hallway in opposite directions

Do not believe the nice reviews. The hotel is dated and dirty. Cleaning service is very poor. They even left the rubbish on the floor. Breakfast is 20$ pp but has no pastries or meat, cheese, veggies platter options. Coffee is bad. You have to order a kind of normal coffee at additional price. No sound proofing so you can hear all the guests in the nearby rooms and corridor. The rubbish bins are just outside the window so it s extra noisy when they get collected at night. We got a call from reception on the 1st of February at 6 am!!! About the missing laptop which has nothing to do with us. They simply used the wrong room number.. which is horrible considering it was very early morning and we were sleeping. WiFi is at addition charge which is another very bad thing considering that all hotels around the world offer free WiFi for their guests. However at mercure welcome you have 2 options to get WiFi: 1- Pay 2-sign up for their hotel updates and as they call it loyalty club - this is just wrong and bad choice of marketing strategy. Also their poor staff at reception are getting extremely cold as they stay in front of the freezing air conditioner and these receptionists look very unhappy and guy who served us was coughing constantly from the aircon. Overall the only good thing about this hotel is its convenient location. That s it

The staff, breakfast, and location are all excellent. The rooms in Mercure Welcome are a little tired and bland. We've stayed there four times now and continue to do so. For a short stay, it's fine.

From the front desk to the bar to the breakfast, the staff here made the place alive and friendly, but the hotel rooms were small and old, but very clean. The bathroom is small and the outdated bedroom is fit and clean. The breakfast was very good. In general, it will be better to be more modern.

The hotel had a small room which was pretty clean except the cords for the hairdryer in the bathroom. It is currently undergoing some renovations which make it hard to find the entrance. The breakfast buffet is standard fare but the food is average. Overall it was ok for the price.

Quiet dissapointed, work booked me this hotel for a week and I will be recommending they don't use it in the future. Rooms were dated, limited natural light in the room, walls were thin and I could hear everything and everyone in the corridor. In addition on my 4th night the entire 8th floof smelt so strongly of chemicals I called down to reception worried and they told me they were redoing the floors on the 1st floor. I was on the 8th and it smelt like I was in the middle of it. With no windows to open it was not enjoyable at all. Wouldn't recommend, there are other hotels in the same price range that are far nicer.

The stay was without an issue with Front Desk always happy to assist and all hotel details clearly explained on check in. The concierge staff were very helpful too.

The fact that it was so easy made my stay in Melbourne an enjoyable one.

room didn't look anything like the photos (clearly the promotional photos are years old)
bed was uncomfortable
staff weren't that friendly or helpful (apart from the check-in guy who was helpful)
rooms and hotel had poor natural lighting
carpet in room was stained
carpet through hotel seemed dusty
no body wash, just soap
noise from other guest flowed straight into my room at all hours

We had a smaller room which was fine as we got a good rate but sadly our room was literally covered in dust.
I did ask if the room could be cleaned more thoroughly but this never happened - I cleaned it myself and got a spray for the air vents and bed area as I have a horrible dust mite allergy.
We spent as little time as possible in the room.

Don't stay there. We had no hot water in the morning to have a shower, or even a wash! Also, don't fall for the $10 credit if you don't need the room serviced. It said you could use it in food or beverages. We didn't require breakfast so thought we would use it towards drinks in the bar, except there isn't one.

Comfortable, clean and neat, small rooms but more than sufficient to rest your head. Excellent location close to shops, transport, food and sights. Easy to walk everywhere! Roadwork did mean a bit difficult to get to for our uber but not impossible.

I stayed there for a week. the hotel itself was nice and clean. Works were happening to some of the rooms in the building and even tho they say work didn't start until 9am everyday we constantly heard workers going at it at 6am.......rooms were small but clean. aircon/heating units were alittle loud but they blocked some of the workers noise!!

I didnt like the fact they refused room service to out part of the hotel!! made life alittle hard(About to have a baby and not willing to go out at 2am for food/drinks made us have to bring our own food to hotel)

the staff were nice, helped move bags and things. I wish the hotel resturant did take away tho seeing as theres no room service.

oh and one thing i am quite angry at is day before i rang hotel to ask a question and the woman said parking was next to hotel!! HAHAHAHA NO! it was on russel street!! do you how hard it is to carry suitcases and bags from there to hotel!?!?!?!?? it was insane!
