Delicious drinks (in glasses - not just in cups!). Unfortunately a bit expensive. Tip: Absinthe Frappe

Cool place right across the street from the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Old school New Orleans. Everyone should try absinthe at least once, if they survive...Haha! Cheers!
What an amazing history! Intrigue, celebrities (Oscar Wilde paid it a visit, among many others), and the Green Fairy. Absinthe prices a bit steep...but worth it just for the experience.
Cool place. Nice selection of absinthe. Little disappointed they didn't have the dripping ice water contraption.
Just the best place to be period! I can't wait to retire there!
A classic dive bar at its best. True absinthe drinks are plentiful.
Great service - thanks Julie, very knowledgeable staff, great environment
Nice atmosphere. Had a lesson in absinthe before I tried it. Memorable experience.
These bartenders are so nice and friendly. Big ups to them. Great place to go if you like absinthe and it's a great drink to try!
Super-chic pub in New Orleans. Almost a 'must' when you are in the area.
Very dark and full of old New Orleans atmosphere. The house drink menu has many variations of absinthe. It's also directly across the street from a bar with a balcony where men and women are throwing beads down to passers-by and it's very entertaining to sit at the bar and watch what's going on in the street. Highly recommend if you want a taste of authentic New Orleans.
Very good atmosphere with decent prices for absinthe. We have to at least once every time we go to New Orleans.
A rip off trap bar.. 23$ for a fuzzy navel and a daiquiri
Cool place. The drink presentation make this place worth a visit
I'd visited on Mardi Gras 2020 and it was most certainly a one of a kind experience! Loved the rustic ambience of the bar which is conveniently located on the Bourbon Street. The menu is very detailed and descriptive, which aided me in deciding on the drink that I wanted to go for. I'd ordered the Butterfly Classic Absinthe which was an absolute craft prepared right in front of my eyes by the bartender - 'twas like watching an artwork in the making! Not exaggerating, trust me! Loved it. Highly recommend visiting this place if you're in NOLA.
Favorite spot if you can find your business card from last time!!!!
Rude emoloyees. Had to literally flag someone down just to be waited on. They barely acknowledged us. Wish I could give 0 stars.
Great old New Orleans vibe. It's a little gritty but in a charming way.
I know it's the absinthe house but try to give your guests more of a chance to order before you put absinthe in front of them.
A must in the French Quarter... specialists on all things absinthe. ...best "sazerac" in town.
First time absinthe drinker. Enjoyable atmosphere. Surprised to not find any publicity connecting the establishment to the old ABC TV show "Bourbon Street Beat" given that the office of the detective agency on the show is stated to be above the OAH.
Showed a YouTube video on the TV series to our waitress, who was unaware of that part of the history. Otherwise, the service was fine. We'll probably stop in again next time we're in NOLA.
Ashley and the barback are the hardest working people there. Great attitudes and we were there 3 times in our trip. We will.be back!
Ashley shared her extensive knowledge of absinthe offerings in a lovely and surprisingly cozy venue right on Bourbon. If you want a quieter, more intimate drink, be sure to drop in!
Way expensive for the same drinks you can grey anywhere. Never again here
This place is a staple on Bourbon Street. Lot of fun to feel like you've stepped back in time with some Absinthe. A little pricey, but the ambiance and serving of the Absinthe is unique and fun! Only reason for less than perfect rating is the men's room can look pretty bad
Cool old bar. Absinthe not really my thing but they've got all the usual bar stuff too.
Great bar, great Gin Fizz (picture), Absinthe is terrible but god bless the people who actually like it
During my weekend in NOLA I think I came here every night. Their lists of Absinthe is amazing and the staff was very friendly. Does get busy at times but they were very attentive the entire time. A must see when walking Bourbon Street
absinthe...yummmm...fireplace for the cold nights...the rest is like you read already...expensice...service spotty...but still cool.
Staff are not particularly engaging but they know their absinthe. If trying absinthe is on your bucket list (you may want to rethink your bucket list) then this is as good as any place to experience it
Cool place love the selection of Absinthe, bartenders are kind of rude why only 3 stars.
Great place to stop by and have drink, I had my first Absinthe here! is delicious, after walking Bourbon street with the loud music and you want a nice little place to relax this is it .
Characteristic place, I tried a sazerac, very good!
The Old Absinthe House has long been famed for their absinthe frappe, created in 1860 by Cayetano Ferrer. But after one look at my friend s giant plastic cup filled with Bloody Mary, brimming with dilly beans, pickled okra and olives, I forwent history and went for brunch. After all, the clock (with its incorrect numeral four) had just struck noon. Some decisions you regret, but with one sip of the spicy, vodka-heavy, tangy concoction, I knew my path aimed true. The salad on top proved an added bonus both to cut the heavy pour of vodka and fill my belly.
Good place to unwind. I skip a lot of places on Bourbon Street, however I do always make a stop here. The drinks are good. Bartenders are friendly. (An extra thank you for having bartenders that make sure female patrons aren t being hassled)
They charge me more money and now they don t want to return it. Not good
Best place to get a variety of different absinthes.
Absinthe frappe and sazerac were great... good time
Be careful with the drinks, there really strong. The staffing could be more pleasant.
Gathering place with a lucky dog stand right outside....just sayin'
This place gets insane busy at night and on the weekend. If you can, go during the early afternoon. At that time of day it's mostly locals or day drinkers - quieter and much more laid back.
First of all absinthe taste like watered-down Sambuca... I love Sambuca which tastes like black licorice but the absinthe wasn't even drinkable, my taste of course... I asked the bartender for a cup half full of soda water thinking I would dilute it a little and try to get my $20 worth... it wasn't busy at all but she pretty much ignored me and gave me a plastic cup with a splash of soda water... I was pretty much done with this place at that point... it might be a tourist trap but at least try to pay attention to people if you're the bartender and the bar is just about empty...
I liked all the notes on the walls, and watching the absinthe being prepared was cool. But dear lord, the service here is atrocious. Having to wait a while I can completely understand, but these bartenders deliberately avoid eye contact and once you have their attention they seem so incredibly annoyed that you feel like a nuisance for just wanting a drink. With all the bars on Bourbon, this one is hardly worth your time.
Great place to have a bloody Mary and people watch! Great staff!
Old reliable French quarter standard. Usually less hectic than some of the surrounding establishments
One of those places you have to see just because you can.
The bartender gave good advice for my first absynthe experience. And they had free popcorn!
The bartender was very friendly and helpful with my absinthe selection.
Jackie claimed that she was the manager but inappropriately took my drink before I was finished. This was very unprofessional and soiled my experience.
Better bar to sit and relax with nice people and good bartenders.
This is by far my favorite place in New Orleans! Such a chill atmosphere and great bar tenders who actually know their absinthes!!!
After two hand grenades from there you are finished for the night
Super friendly bartenders, with an incredible knowledge of the spirit which gives this location it's name. We tried absinthe for the first time, as it was served with flair and style. The drink was poured over a sugar cube, set ablaze then extinguished with water. The cocktail was the stirred and give to us with a smile. The drink was different than anything I had ever tried before. Strong hints of anise, licorice and wormwood. Definitely an acquired taste. 100% worth the experience.
Old Absinthe House is old, dark and a bit grungy but what place on Bourbon street isn't. It's all part of the character of New Orleans. They have your a variety absinthe and the bar-tenders aren't too bad. If you want a drink that isn't just beer or a syrup sugar mixed, mildly alcoholic beverage, they are more skilled then any other bartender on Bourbon St.
Great place to hit up to try traditional absnith. The bar staff were great an attentative. Had a good time
Watch your tab. They charged me for someone else's drinks. Ditzy blonde bartender was more interested in counting out her tips than serving the customers. She kept people standing around til she decided to take orders. Better places in french quarter to drink.
Love this place! Awesome decor and staff!! Great drinks and friendly people.
fav bar in the FQ they always have the door open and they have a nice quite little court yard you can watch the craziness from
