One of the best museums in the world without enough credit going to Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson for the Night at the Museum movies haha. Really amazing, intriguing dinosaur display that s great for all ages. Don t try to do the whole museum in one visit. It s too overwhelming. Just hit your own personal highlights.

Awsome place to see how everything has evolved. Just blows my mind to see all the great sites. I tried to fit this all in 3 hours. And you cant appreciate it all unless u take couple of days here.

Of you're a geek and you're in NYC, AMNH is a must! If you're not into knowing about creatures who walked on Earth before us, extinct species or species qualifications or Earth genesis and such, you probably won't have the best time in your life, but it's still worth checking out. If nothing else to see how big is a big blue whale or how much would you weigh on the Moon or Mars. Hayden Planetarium and Dinosaur room are probably the two most attractive exhibitions here.

Horrible staff and subpar experience. I don't mind crowds and expected a large crowd here. It was the disorganization of the employees that makes it difficult. For example, we asked were to go for coat check pickup and were told to go to the exit. When we went there, they said no, you have to go back to the entrance line. When I asked the information desk where to go, I was told sometimes it's one way, sometimes it's another. For a place this busy, you need to have good signage and employees that have clear direction to help avoid confusion. And who can forget the employee ( security gaurd I believe) walking through the crowded entrance hall saying "coming through, move, if you're in front of me I'm going to push you."

The exhibits were good, the Hall of Minerals is in terrible condition for such a prestigious museum. Hayden Planetarium is a must and was the best part of our visit. I'd stick with the add-on exhibits like the Imax and for us, we saw the Poison exhibit. With these changing regularly they tend to be better.

Probably the best Museum I've ever beent to! The giant dinosaur skeletons tower above my head as I wait with excitement to enter the exibits. All of the dinosaurs, and the Planetarium. I'm definitely coming back some day!

Great place to visit if your a NewYorker or just visiting from out of town. But beware there is guard that is out side she is a female lady with an attitude towards every one. I was there not too long ago with my famliy she verbally accosted me and my two boys and my wife asking for tickets she had NO ID on her saying that she worked for the museum. She was rude and disrespectful towards my famliy. That's not the way you treat any one who comes to see this fantastic museum.

Came to check out the Butterfly exhibit. Very educational and cool to see the different kinds of butterflies soaring around you . The only downside is i went during the heatwave so being outside at peak time. I would visit again before it closes.

Probably the best history museum I've ever been to. One could spend days and days looking at everything that's housed here. I really enjoyed myself and was interested in just about everything on exhibit here. If you're in New York, I would say this museum is a must-visit.

Paid the full price to see all the special shows and exhibits, went around noon to make sure I had time for everything I wanted. Recieved a restricted timed itinerary where the shows ended up overlapping due to a late start. Didn't even get to see the show that I paid extra to see. Their terrible scheduling system ruined what would've been an okay visit

Racist, outdated, colonization for indigenous peoples. So offensive. Causes so much violence and oppression. Shame on you for keeping the hall of woodlands 'indians' and hall of plains 'indians' the way it is now. Horrifying, glosses over genocide, dehumanizing, homogenizing indigenous nations. 'pre-european' over and over and over again. Pre-colonization. CLOSE THE HALLS UNTIL YOU CAN UPDATE THEM. STOP USING TAXPAYER MONEY TO FUND BIGOTRY AND OPPRESSION.

A rather unpleasant experience! Admittedly, I've chosen a rainy day to visit the AMNH again. So, I've expected lots of visitors, but I didn't and wouldn't expect the museum to be overwhelmed by its visitors. It took two hours to get a ticket. With that much time spent in the queue, you do get hungry. So, you buy food there, which is expensive, but served on paper plates with plastic cutlery. So, you spend $22 to $35 for the ticket and $20 to $30 for food, total between $44 and $65 for something you've seen before and less than mediocre food. Not good value for good money. AMNH is not cheap and has lots of visitors. So, the income is high. I would advise the museum to spend more money on more staff (with decent pay), better food service and better service overall.

We buy a membership every year. Once a week we visit the city and especially in the winter, this is a wonderful place for my toddler to learn be amazed, engage and find a low lot spot for a nap! The staff are hands down the best in the US! The cafeteria crew know us and always say hi, and the expert volunteers are always so warm and inviting. We love this place.

I'm so sorry that the American Museum Natural History Museum's expansion into Theodore Roosevelt Park was approved by the NY City Parks Department, because it used to be one of my favorite places to enjoy a bit of quiet, (see photo on right) and now look what has become of it one year later (see photo on left.)

It's such an awesome place to go to learn about our planet in general. There's so much, it takes 2 days to see it all. I leave with knowledge stuck in my head to fascinate me for the rest of the day. The only thing is the lines on the weekends are long so try to get tickets before coming. I recommend going to the gift shops also because it's 3 floors of amazement!

Great museum to visit at any given time! It is a large facility with a lot of great artwork displayed, kid friendly and very informative. Creating a learning environment for those who do arrive with children, at the time of visit my son was around 3 and he enjoyed every sight and corner of the museum. You do need to give yourself plenty of time if you want to see every single piece and understand the history behind it. Bring comfortable shoes!!!

On Central Park West, opposite the most famous urban park in the U.S. is located the American Museum of Natural Sciences.

Here in the heart of Manhattan you can see exhibitions of various themes. The exhibitions are so interesting and exciting that you will like it with certainly.

Interestingly, here remain captivated even those who does not like museums and usually do not visit such kind of places.

Amazing experience. Educational and fun. The show at the planetarium is great. Went in at 1pm and came out when it almost closed at 5.45pm and still couldn't cover everything.

Nice museum. Very educating. Building very dated. A lot of lights inside the museum shining on objects arent working. Toilets very old, locks not working, sinks not working. Dirty. No Sanitizer. Cafe too small and way overprized.

I really liked this museum a lot more when I was a kid, but returning as an adult, I saw that many of the artifacts on display are actually replicas, which is not what I d expect from a museum of this stature. When I visited, the gems & minerals exhibit was being reformed, unfortunately, and may be closed for multiple years. Also many of the older exhibit cases were poorly lit and many of the stuffed animals looked like they could use a dusting.
It s still worth bringing the little ones to spark their curiosity.

Great place. Just ensure you make a reservation. There s no food inside and there s nothing to eat inside. Parking there for 4 hours will cost you about $45. Download the app for the place so you can get around efficiently. Go see the color exhibit and the TRex exhibit. Worth it! Have your kids watch the night at the museum ahead of time so they can find the characters. But be aware lots of exhibits are closed currently so depending on what you want to see might deter you. The food trucks outside are good also but kinda pricey.

What's not to love? I would recommend against prime weekend rush hours, but it's all good. Kids love the Easter Island statue (Dum-Dum from the Night at the Museum movies), and the whale and the dinosaurs are also great. Don't forget the Planetarium.

Great trip
There is a large parking there....you can quickly see all the museum exhibitions in 2 hours..

This is the premiere museum for everything natural and I can't get enough of it! The place is massive with too much to see in one visit. Put on your comfiest walking shoes and start exploring. The top floor w/ all the dinosaur exhibits is a hot mess of people most of the time but the other floors can get just as packed too. It's a bit of a maze to get through at times too. Stick to a weekday or early weekend morning for the least crowds. The pay what you want pricing is great but don't be a cheap skate. My favorite place to wonder and explore is the peoples exhibits from around the world. It's easy to get to and there are tons of things to do in the area including Central Park, strolling the Upper West Side or more museums across the park.

Amazing dinosaur and extinct mammal exhibits! Best I've ever seen (better than the British museum)! We arrived at lunch time on a weekday and the line only took 5-10mins. We got the super pass and enjoyed the planetarium film narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson and the live butterfly exhibit.

This is one of the best museums I've ever been to. Period. At one point, I learned about dinosaurs and saw the actual bones. At another point, I learned about wildlife and saw such detailed replicas of the lions. And at another point, I leaned more about Asian culture, and saw paintings and artifacts. An absolute must place to visit.

When you buy a ticket online it should be good to enter the museum. You shouldn't have wait in a hour long line just enter the building. Then wait another two hours at will call for your ticket. That is ridiculous. I understand it's the holiday season and its busy, but I shouldn't have to wait when I have the ticket on my phone. Or watch people just not even waiting on line to get service a head of you.

It's just not worth it. The exhibits aren't clean or updated. The T-Rex Exhibit($10 additional per person) should be a free entry. Restrooms are disgusting. Never coming back, huge disappoint.

American Museum of natural history is a huge 4 story building depicting amazing pieces of history. The museum is very well maintained and extremely tidy but i could see the directions clealy missing out. So carrying a map with you or downloading the Explorer App is a pre requisite if you dont wanna miss out the tiniest of things. We reached the museum at around 12 noon and unfortunately we couldnt find any english language map which is why i might have missed a few things to see. The museum is way too huge and its not easy to scan the entire place in a few hours.
If youre visiting here during weekends, expect it to be busy and crowded so better buy the ticket online and skip the long line.
We bought the basic ticket ($23) to cover all four storeys with no extra exhibits which Im so glad about because grasping too much of history in a day isnt easy and that too with a 3 year old.
There are multiple screens playing videos at each floor so you can just sit observe and watch the evolution of mankind.
The museum has a cafe at every floor with more than enough options of food to devour.
I was expecting this place to be much more fun and fascinating however it turned out be a tad bit tiresome and monotonous to me.
I am giving this museum 4 stars only because every single object or creature exhibited in here is made to look so natural, if you look at the animals closely you wont believe your eyes they arent real.
I'm sure museums like these are heaven for anyone studying world history.

Being dorks, my boyfriend and I loved going on our date to the museum. The dinosaurs of course are a must see and the butterfly room and planetarium experiences were definitely worth the price and the wait. The staff and volunteers are so helpful and insightful. You can tell they really love what they do. The museum is beautifully maintained and from what I could see, the food court has definitely improved over the years. The gift shop was also lovely. It s always a pleasure visiting.

The whole exhibit itself was amazing; the layout, the quality of presentation and the variety of exhibits was fantastic.
Our encounters with staff was not so good. We purchased vouchers at our hotel to supposedly not have to queue; we went to information - the woman there looked at the vouchers and just dismissively said - join the queue; a guy organising the queue told us to by-pass the queue and go to the last desk on the counter - where we were met with a grumpy woman (who looked grumpy before we even spoke to her) who just said "who sent you here? You have to join the queue" - which we did and twenty minutes later we got to a desk, a guy took the vouchers, looked very confused by them, looked towards what appeared to be a supervisor (who was too busy chatting and laughing with someone) - then he eventually issued us tickets and handed them out - without saying one word to us!!!
The exhibition was brilliant but the customer service from all the staff (apart from the guy organising the queue) was appalling!!

Do you love science? Do you love history? Do you love dinosaurs? This is the place to go. If you are on a New York trip from some other place, do not miss this amazing museum. You can spend all day going through different sections of the museum.

Always educational and fun to visit this museum. I visited 3rd time by now and still coming to visit with my son. The various cultural presentation, Mammals of human culture and Various Animals from around the world, 4th floor of Dinosaur world.....just amazing. Covid 19 restrictions are there but you will still enjoy the visit. Each section of this museum is lot informative for all ages of people.

It is overpriced, dirty and run-down. It's hard to navigate, with a lot of backtracking from dead-ends and walking up and down stairs (elevators take forever). Some exhibits and areas were closed down. A lot of exhibits were lame (stuffed birds behind glass, for example). A lot of staff incompetent and rude. I would go here only if I had run out of things to do in NYC. Also, don't let them fool you on the ticket price. They advertise $22, but it is $35 if you want access to the "special exhibitions." If you want to go to a museum in NYC, I would go to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met is truly world class and has a "wow" factor to it. Very large collection, excellent pieces. Almost at the level of the Vatican in Rome (which is my favorite), but, unlike the Vatican, not as crowded and tickets are at a voluntary, suggested donation price.

Great museum to take the family and kids to. Animals in the different exhibits certainly looked as though they could come to life. And the cultural and scientific sections had a slew of information to soak in.

Amazing and jaw dropping! Wonderful collection! It seemed bigger than the Smithsonian version in Washington, DC, but I could not verify this. But I personally liked this more than the DC version. This is a MUST for every NY tourist. And please don't be cheap! Just because it is a pay-any-amount museum doesn't mean you should pay less! The value and amount of exhibits inside are worth way more than the USD22 admission fee.

One of my favorite places to visit. The membership is worth it if you're local. They have member only events and discounts at the gift shop. If you go enough it pays for itself. I am never disappointed with my visits here.

I'm really into history, have been most of my life, and so I've been to several museums all over the country. This one is simply one of the best I've ever been to. If you are even remotely interested in the history of the natural world and everything involved with it, from space to the bottom of the ocean, this is the place to visit.

I am really disappointed in how the butterfly gard...

I am really disappointed in how the butterfly garden was treated during my visit. Initially, walking in, you are supposed to be let into the area so that no butterflies escape. The worker sat in a chair across the room signalling us to go in, not having a care in the world as to whether they got out or were killed in the doorway. If you view a small insects life as insignificant, fine. But maybe your career should be pondered when its specifically to take care of that kind of exhibit in a learning and respectful facility. There were parents with children running around stomping and swatting at the fragile creatures. A butterfly landed on a child and the child started screaming and flailing violently, nearly smashing the butterfly to bits. There was another butterfly on the ground and the woman working said she "hopes for the best" that it doesn't get stomped on when I asked her if I could move it to safety and she said no. This is supposed to be an educational experience where humanity learns about nature and all of the animals that we coexist with. Children incapable of not smashing a butterfly when it lands on them or running around should be in a parents arms or simply not in such a fragile environment. "Hoping for the best" is not a wise option when there is something to be done in the atmosphere you WORK in. I am disgusted by the lack of respect given to this site, and frankly Theodore Roosevelt would be too. When his quotes are on the walls leading to the site they should be respected. I still have nightmares when thinking of the absolute bloodbath that took place in that room.

Poorly staffed and organised (prepare for long queues and mediocre food), this is an old-fashioned museum struggling under a flood of visitors. There are some wonderful gems though - if you can fight past the crowds to find them.

A towering institution but not necessarily a great day out.

This is such a great museum! Everything here is so carefully curated, and a big hit with all ages. I got general admission, and was there for about 2 hours. We did the dinos(fourth floor) plus some of the animals and the biodiverse life? Parking was a nightmare, with no availabile street parking and no space in the museum lot, but it's popular, so what do you expect. I would definitely come, it's an experience that you wouldn't want to miss.

Love the museum. It's very big, it has dinosaurs! it has meteorites! it has gems! it has sciencey stuff and history stuff and culture stuff. I was so happy.
There's a direct entrance from the subway you might be able to use that.
The food in the food court is super expensive!

Note that it is a pay-as-you-wish, meaning you can choose to donate $1 or even up to suggested ticket price. Up to your budget.

Amazing museum! Really does live up to the hype. So many artifacts, it's hard to look at and absorb everything with just one visit. Definitely a museum to take your time and visit multiple times. My husband and I walked through every exhibit, but I know we missed a lot before they closed. Will be making our way back eventually. The museum, obviously, is usually super crowded.

If you are in NYC you definitely have to go there. I prefer buying tickets online and enter from the back. There is so much to see and we spend a whole day inside the museum.
There are enough toilets and good snacks to buy. I really liked it because of the movie with Robin Williams everything from the movie you can see there as well!! Enjoy!
