It is a museum to remember. I have been going to this Museum since as long as I can remember and nothing has really changed inside. But I see the excitement when I bring somebody new with me to this Museum. And even though I have been coming for most of my life here I always feel the joy a visiting again. Like seeing an old friend. I will recommend this Museum to all. It's always fun to see something in person when you see it in a movie. Aka the night of the museum.

Probably the greatest museum in the world. You can virtually everything in relation to the history of Mother Earth and the development of its living species. I ve been there probably 50 times or more, but I find it more and more fascinating every single time.
My personal favorites are the Hall of Biodiversity and the Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life. I m fascinated by both land life and marine life. Especially with the latter, due to the fact that there s much to be discovered in the deeps of the ocean. Also, we don t know that much about it, so marine animals are even a bigger mystery.
The Nature of Color is probably the most beautiful thing that I ve seen indoors. The colors were so vivid and stunningly beautiful.
I was stunned by the T-Rex exhibit. I m not yet used to seeing dinosaurs with feathers, instead of scales. Yet, the baby T-Rex looks cute. I also loved the Dinosaurs Among Us exhibit some years ago.
I haven t visited since the pandemic broke out and I don t know how does it function today, but I ve heard that there s a group scheme that works pretty well. I do hope that everything would be okay soon enough!

Went there in the winter and loved all the exhibits. Place is very large and you can easily spent the entire day looking at everything, although you can easily get lost. The items being sold around the area is expensive, which is to be expected.

Great time spent! We were nervous on how packed it would be but we there first thing and it felt like we had it to ourselves! We felt a lot more comfortable then we thought we would be and everyone was wearing their mask as required and keeping distance! Made everything more enjoyable while being safe.

The museum is really big, with a thousand rooms, on several floors!
This disorientates the visitor a little, because he does not understand from which theme area he should start ...
If a "visit itinerary" was proposed/suggested in the map ...
Anyway, it is very nice!
NOTE: even if the voucher has been purchased online, you need to queue because you need to convert it to a ticket.

Parts of this museum is really good, other parts not so much. The first floor is out dated, poorly maintained and some of the displays you can't see because the lights don't work in them. If you get past the first floor things definitely improve. However, compared to other museums around the world, this one is average considering its size and potential.

This is one of my favourite places in the WORLD, I could get lost in here. I come back over and over. I never get sick of it. If you are on holiday in NYC, it's really a must-see. Well maintained and the exhibits are really cool!

Well, if you gonna visit the museum, prepare to spend the entire day there, it is huge. If you rush through it, you won't learn anything. There's a lot to read and see. It's also on the same grounds as the planetarium but I'd save that for another day.

This Museum is a wonderful place to visit! It's huge! You need more than one day to see the whole thing. Besides waiting in a long line to get in, and some more crowded areas of the museum, I loved it. I don't understand why others are giving this wonderful museum such low ratings becuase my experience was great. There are a few more dated parts of the museum, but they are always updating and improving it. Well worth the visit.

I enjoy visiting this museum whenever they host educator evenings. I have been to a Cuba exhibit and another that was beyond my understanding of science, but I go because you get to learn about the exhibits through different lens. The wine+cheese are also a perk! Signing up through their website is a cinch.

Best advice I can give, buy your tickets online and expect to spend your entire day here. Or week. Or month. You just can't see it all. This massive museum has so many incredible things to see but it also gets super crowded that it's overwhelming in areas. We took our young teens and they enjoyed it but I'm glad we didn't do it when they were younger. I would not want to be pushing a stroller or chasing toddlers through there. The museum is worth all the traffic though, and allow plenty of time to get through the space center. The planetarium show is awesome!

My wife and I have 4 children so this museum is overall very good with a couple things knocking a star off.

Star deductions: Cafeteria is expensive. So big you can t see everything in one day. Family memberships don t assume enough kids.

4 stars because: many exhibits that change every 3-6 months. It is HUGE. You CANNOT see everything in one day, or even two. The Planetarium is amazing. Children s discovery room educates and entertains all 4 of my kids. We go 7-10 times a year and we still haven t seen everything. So we will be renewing our membership.

Great museum, but disappointed with the maintenance of many of the hands-on exhibits with moving parts (especially for kids). Broken light on microscope, broken telescopes, 3 of 4 flying pterodactyl simulations not working, etc.

GET TICKETS 4-6 MONTHS before you go!!! There are 3 types of visits you can have. A general ticket, gets you to the island where lady liberty is. 2nd is Base and Pedestal. That allows you up to the bottom of the statute. 3rd...and most important, if you want to go up the Statute to the Crown!!!! You need to get this 4-6 months ahead of time!!!

An incredible collection of exhibits, with a wider span than you can imagine. From ancient canoes to stuffed animals to space objects, amazing. Our favorites were the dinasours on the fourth floor, the deep oceans exhibit, and the entire space area. Parts of the museum are old in look and feel, could use upgrades. Hence please consider buying a ticket or donating. Thank you.

I have been a member of the Natural history museum since 2000 when the brand new state of the art Hayden Planetarium and the Rose Center for Earth and Space opened. I loved going there as a kid with my friends and family. It is really wonderful to have this incredible cultural institution on the Upper West Side where I live in Manhattan. One of my favorite areas of the museum is the Hall of North American mammals. It always feel like you re really at those places and you can escape from the noisy crowded city outside. The dioramas of the environment settings displayed in that room and elsewhere are truly a masterpiece of art and natural science together.

Overall, we really enjoyed the museum. We were disappointed that so many of the older display cases were not lit; they were black and impossible to see. Would it be so difficult to replace the light bulbs? We didn't pay for any of the extra exhibits, we were kept busy with everything that was included in the admission price. We chose to pay the actual admission price, even though the person at the ticket counter explained that we could pay what we wanted to. Perhaps if more people paid the full price, they could afford to keep the cases lighted! The Fossil Halls were much newer looking than the older sections, with lots of great information about the displays. Like most tourist attractions, the food was expensive and not very good. We had turkey sandwiches on rolls that at first glance looked like they'd be good, but the rolls were hard and the turkey was dry. Despite the draw-backs, we are very glad we devoted time to the museum during our trip to New York.

Truly amazing. Hard to fully appreciate in just one day as the (permanent) collections are enormous. This is specially true with kids. If you have the opportunity I would recommend splitting it in two or three visits. Note that if you want to use the pay-what-you-think-is-fair option you might have to queue as online or on site machine tickets are full admission only.

They have a wide selection of exhibits. However I didn't think it was well organized. It went from exhibits on people and exhibits on animals. They could have had more info on everything. It also wasn't clear which pieces were originals and which were made by the museum for the museum.

Museum are my favorite place and this is definitely one that I absolutely loved. You have to visit planetarium here. Staff is friendly. I do think restaurant on the ground floor has to be cleaner. I also wish there were more healthier choices of food there. I did not like so many souvenir shops. I guess if they just had 1 to cover the entire museum would be great. Accessibility is superb. I wonder why museum do not keep some of the latest technology breakthroughs or activity oriented things like something that explains what kinetic energy is or what would harpoon of earth stops to revolve etc. but at the end of the day. It s an amazing place to spend a day.

It s pay as you wish so you can decide how much you want to pay. Don t know how it works to get ticket with the extra exhibitions though.

COMPLAINT:

COMPLAINT:

A few days ago, I bought my girlfriend and I SuperSaver tickets to the American Museum of Natural History. We've been talking about visiting the Hayden Planetarium for months now and I thought this would be a great chance for us to finally go see the show. We both live in NYC so we've been to this museum a few times now but have never been to the Rose Center/Planatarium. When we got to the museum this afternoon, we were told that the planetarium was shut down indefinitely due to an "accident" that had occurred a few days ago. We later found out that the ROOF had partially COLLAPSED! I asked who we could talk to about getting a voucher for when it reopened (since its not included in the general admission) and the woman at the front desk told us to go visit a supervisor. We were disappointed but decided to hang out anyway and see the remaining special exhibits that are included in the SuperSaver package. I mean, what were we going to do? Just go home?

As the museum was closing, I asked to speak to a supervisor who might be able to give us a voucher so we could come back when the planetarium reopened. He very directly told me that the SuperSaver package was only equivalent to "two special exhibits" and that since we had already spent our time there and seen the other exhibits, we didn't qualify for a voucher. Only TWO exhibits? According the AMNH website where I bought the tickets, the SuperSaver admission package provides "Admission to the Museum PLUS Rose Center for Earth and Space PLUS all special exhibits, IMAX or 3D films, AND the Hayden Planetarium Space Show." Nowhere online during the ticket-buying process does it mention a "two exhibit" equivalence nor was this explained to us when we entered the museum and were told that the planetarium was closed.

If we would have just missed our planetarium showing, then yeah, that'd be on us. But since the roof collapsing was not part of our birthday plans, why are we ineligible for a voucher? Does the museum customer service really care this little about the happiness of its patrons? How difficult would this have been? If it wasn't a big deal to us, I wouldn't have asked. But it was a big deal and now it's a bigger deal. I'm very disappointed.

Line was ridiculous which is no fault of the museum but there was very little to no communication in the form of stanchions or what have you.

Many of the exhibits are sorely outdated and I found the interpretations weak - they didn t do much to contextualize their peoples portions or create the impression of interrelation between peoples of a region.

What REALLY got me though is I paid the full suggested donation and then ALL the areas I really wanted to see (oceans, rotunda, portions of the forest exhibit) were closed off in preparation for an event. If I had known I would have gone some other day or not at all but there was -0- indication of this being the case.

Like I get it, it s a public museum and events bring in the big bucks but I felt screwed. The exhibits that were still open were showing their age. I ve wanted to go here since I was a kid and now I m just bummed.

I am giving 4 stars, and not 5 stars, because I believe that, with all thousands of visitors it gets every years, it deserves to be modernized, revamped. The Neil deGrasse Tyson dark exibition from space is the highlight by far. If we had more of that, and more that connects to the Night in The Museum movies (interactive stuff), it would deserve my 5 stars.

After seeing the MET, this place was just meh. I found that it was more appropriate for children rather than adults. Some of the displays look like they need a remodel. When this place opened, people seldom left to go abroad so these exhibits were a novelty, but now, it just feels outdated.

If you are traveling with kids, go here, but if you are without kids, skip this and spend the whole day at the MET.

Great place to exercise walking with many great sights to distract you from your walking. This is better than jogging in the park or along around a lake. One can easily walk for hours without sweat or getting tired so easily. In fact many new thing can be learn from this walking exercise, along with weight loss. Many great artifacts, paintings, sculptures, etc.

If you been here before, you do not come back for the regular exhibition. You come here for their special events, limited exhibits, talks and labs. If you do come for the regular display, it's probably for nostalgia.

I was very disappointed over the condition of the building! Many displays had no lighting, numerous tiles were missing in the ceiling, and in the lower level snack bar's trash receptacles were in shameful condition. The displays that were well lighted made my visit enjoyable!

Boring. Spent 20 minutes walking through only a fraction of the hundreds exhibits and while you could spend all day and still not see everything, I wouldn t waste your time. Nothing was interesting. I couldn t touch or play with any of the super old and delicate pottery or weapons. Don t recommend for kids or adults with ADHD. China town was Much more interesting.

We wanted to "Pay what you wish" but the T-rex exhibition was extra and ending up costing $80 for 2 adults and 1 child and honestly wasnt worth the $80. Next time Ill just purchase general admission and pay what I wish and just go to the 4th floor for dinosaurs.

We had high expectations for this place but were disappointed. Bland exhibits, hardly any interactivity (read "press this button, thing lights up"). The shops are filled with crap, the planetarium shop had random science stuff, just a few space related items. Thankfully we came a day when it wasn't crowded. It looks clean, allt though there are a lot of broken back lights behind infoscreens.

There are artifacts and exhibits from around the world covering multiple time periods, locations and species. The wait time is minimal and the museum is spacious, accommodating many guests with ease. If you have a large family the membership is well worth the cost if you plan to come back another time or if you do multiple additional exhibits such as the Trex experience and Dark Universe. This museum also does a great job accommodating guests in wheelchairs, there are ramps, elevators and lifts throughout.
