One thing is for certain if you're staying in the Intercontinental, Times Square, you will know you're in New York City! I've stayed about half a dozen times in the past four years and always had great views.

The corner suites afford views both up as far as central park and down to the financial district.

Birdland is pretty much directly opposite, which is a great place, especially if you can get there for 5:15 on a Friday for the Birdland Big Band.

Of course, being a massive chain hotel it's not perfect. Each time I stayed there it was as if I had never been before. No recognition or anything. Obviously I had the loyalty card and got a few promotions, but this was a hit and miss affair. Maybe I am just not that recognisable!

I did get some good service here, but hit and miss as I said. I liked the bar in the lobby, but there was the most bizarre playlist that sounded like it was chosen by a 20yo crystal meth dealer.

like most New York hotels, lots of things to catch out the unwary appear on the bill, mainly New York specific hotel taxes and so on, but the price of your room can also vary massively over a 7 night stay. Be careful!

Would have got more stars if not for the inconsistency, cost and the fact that once the novelty of the view has worn off, there are probably cooler, more stylish, friendlier places to stay in NYC.
