Two products ordered in the webshop that were both suddenly out of stock, even after having had contact the second time. Probably a great physical store, but the web store system is unreliable.

Customer service is also good and was ultimately able to resolve it satisfactorily.

Bad service. My husband and I walked in to buy 2 Arc teryx coats. Before we grabbed the coats I asked the lady something else about wax for my Macintosh wax coat. She looked at me and snapped when I asked her if I could use the Barbour wax for my coat. And when I say snapped, I mean she snapped, grumpy and walked off. My husband was surprised, tried to ask another question but she just walked off. Also the gentleman working there was more occupied with sorting his new stock. If you can I suggest you walk over to Ber Sport on the Stadhouderskade. The service there was perfect. I think the products at the Carl Denig store are too expensive for them to offer bad service. Really really bad service. Surprising for a store that has been there for so long.

Nice offer on fantastic chairs from Alite. Light is important and solidity is the same. In my current vacation, two chairs were worn which were a bit cheaper but definitely not sustainable. So now a more expensive chair from Alite. First called for the stock and was immediately contacted friendly. There was also parking if you checked in advance whether there is an empty place. Had arrived with three out of four children. And immediately a good hospitable atmosphere. Just nice and hospitable and the children were absolutely not a burden. My youngest of 5 even provided the staff with her smooth chat several times. And the staff help you well and friendly. And also try to give everyone time. And I think she is doing very well. We ourselves have experienced a top service that went beyond what was necessary. And the case looks very nice and neat. A real outdoor business! And with this staff and service they do not have to be distinguished from the online business. Outdoor living is a reality story. Not a story online.

"Top Service" at this store! The wheels of my Vaude suitcase were broken. I asked 4 Vaude sales outlets if they could order new wheels for my suitcase at Vaude. From one point of sale I got the message that I only had to buy a new suitcase 2 others did not even respond to my email. Carl Denig called me with the announcement that they had ordered the wheels for me! My suitcase has now been repaired and can last for years! Thanks team!

Really nice variety of gear. Very helpful staff who can give you directions through the big store to what you re looking for. (Metal sporks just arrived a few weeks ago, so they got one out for me before they even made it onto the shelf.)

They don t carry maps and guidebooks, but referred me to Scheltema, also in Amsterdam.

Emporium of hiking, camping, mountaineering. Self-produced equipment. It is home to products for traditional Canadians and British, which should be a guarantee given that they were the first pioneers to put the flag on arrest. Unfortunately today in Amsterdam is a "post-war" day after the Dream Theather concert. The Beat The Street bus met outside the exposed facade of the Regent Hotel reminiscent of the design of exposed yellow bricks. Bus company registered in Austria: the tires of different masks of the entertainment business are loaded, in this case, by heart, of the English language: for example AcDc. For me it seems to understand that you were made and raised like a Tyrolean mule and you do not want to brainwash yourself to park an Englishman who is probably so evil as to feel safer to use your good legs to go around, placing yourself parked in a wheelchair in your skull, you should avoid buying products that come from this tour but rather buying directly from the premises where you live, genuine and original. You never know that you could go around independently and earn wealth with your own business without having to lend too much to dirty pseudo-insurance handling of s
people as evolved and friendly as lice. I would like to be wrong in these considerations but so much. I hope I don't become bald too.

Was not aware of the existance of this store est. 1912. Amazing back story with more information on the walls and the utmost friendly staff will also gladly tell you more (.. please keep in mind that they are not a museum and are there to help you make the perfect purchase). Great selection of high quality outdoor (... and I guess partially originally fishing & hunting) equipment for all of us who need it (or have an urban jungle thing going on like the writer). Great outlet section (and discount for first time customers who join the loyalty program ). Will not come back too often, because I need to pay for food and rent as well.... but would not regret spending all that money there .

Carl Denig was an outdoor sports shop with an eye for quality and making its own tents. Unfortunately, the service that Carl Denig claims to have as one of the main outdoor sports affairs where it is a matter of the customer recognizing the need for customer friendliness, personal contact and service is of secondary importance. Regular Customers who have liked to come to Carl Denig for more than thirty years to, for example, purchase home-made Carl Denig Plutoniel, lose contact with Carl Denig as it was at the time, due to the fact that professionalism, knowledge and therefore customer-friendliness and service is no longer a distinguishing factor for Carl Denig's market forces. Customers are lured in with a 20% discount code obtained by a survey, which then when it suits Carl Denig with no explicit condition visibly must not use it on products of which Carl Denig then suffers a potential loss. Then you get a cancellation without mercy, without any contact a nice prospect with a new tent on holiday is drilled through your nose. Carl Denig is then too lousy to answer your e-mails and leaves the customer duped without any kind of leniency or solution to correct their own mistakes. Also the promised direct refund is not an issue, because Carl Denig has to pay commission because of a discount code, it becomes too expensive and they come up with a market-based story with which Carl Denig himself started to use as a sales strategy and to beat the customer around the ears when it suits them. Customers are then made to feel guilty that due to the cancellation they are too late to order the last tent. This was the last straw, thanks for the rigid attitude after being a loyal customer for thirty years, we have nothing left to shop at Bever with the correct warranty conditions!

Most skillfull personel, great collection!
Friendly welcomed, good coffee and they spared neither time nor effort. Located in an old Amsterdam-style building, they even have their own unique repair-shop. Really worth a visit if you are an adventurer!

Over the years, quite a few things have changed to the detriment, (still apart from the fact that this is the only remaining store).

-O n t th e a nd time, while Bever is as good as around the corner.
-Hork staff, sometimes downright rude.
-Dealer of the abject Canada Goose.
-And on every floor, attic included, that kutradio.

What is missed by Demmenie?

I lower my review from 4 to 2 stars because I again get no response to a mail with a request for help for a broken tent pole.
Dear Carl Denig: get your act together!

Lightweight. outdoor sports
Go to Bever or something for the normal stuff. If it has to be really good, come to Carl Denig. Also for the service (although a response to an email for service has never been answered).

People here know their products and know what they are talking about.

I find the location awkward to say the least. In my opinion, this type of store should be located on an industrial site, where you can just park.

In my opinion this is the best outdoor store in Amsterdam. 5 floors of gear and plenty of top end stuff. Helpful and knowledgeable staff who actually love outdoor sports and have tried many of the products in the real world, allowing them to give helpful advice.

Beautiful stuff that can be bought everywhere and cheaper in most places. A store must distinguish itself from the online price fighters by service and expert, helpful staff. Unfortunately, Denig has neither. Inconsiderate, not customer oriented and arrogant staff. You will be referred to the manufacturer of the product for service. You can fit or view something, but you can buy much better at Bol, Cool Blue or, if necessary, Bever.

The website states that the store would be open until 7 pm today. See picture. When I arrived at 6:10 PM, everything was closed. It said on the door that they would close at 6 pm. So come for nothing. A bit of a shame ... If in doubt, always call them if they are open, otherwise you might come in vain.

Carl Denig do not refund returned items or take back items bought on sale. So if something on sale breaks after being bought, they won't replace it or take it back. This should be kept in mind when buying something pricy. I would not even use this place as a last resort. Bever is a much better option!

Never go to that store again! I got comments that it took me a long time to pick out a winter coat. Messy shop; All men's and women's coats are mixed together. Asked the seller for advice about my wishes and the winter coat that I wanted to purchase if that is sufficient. Once in use, the jacket was not what I thought I was paying for. I would like to consult with the shop manager what was possible.
I was only allowed to exchange the 200 euro jacket (jacket sale) if I paid a more expensive jacket for it. (?)

Ever known as a good store. Unfortunately now a very bad experience a few times. A few years ago bought tent, we doubted whether he was strong enough to go to Norway. According to the seller 'people used this tent for snow camping in Norway in the winter'. After purchase, the first stick was already broken at the first time. Because of the bad ventilation it rains in the tent in the morning and it leaks at the seams. Not what you expect from a rather expensive tent intended for real outdoor work (according to their own advice). We received no guarantee on the stick, and they did not have separate elements, even if it was their own brand of tent. So had to buy a whole new stick. This salesman said that the tent was not meant for countries like Norway. Of course we could not bring him back. A year later again with a broken stick. Again it was impossible to buy separate items. Eventually found a few curve elements in the warehouse. We were allowed to buy these, but for the full price. Even though they admitted that the broken stick was a production error (there was a weird crack). Eventually we were allowed to take them with a 30% discount. Both in advice, knowledge, price and service a disappointment!

Not recommended!
Slow service, nice advice but not for the good product, which resulted in me having to return with a broken product. Eventually I would get a refund after a long story. No money in the greenhouse where they would transfer it in the evening. I still do not have the money (now 2 weeks later) and 3 bells on my account.

Thanks Carl Denig! You saved our camping holiday. After we have vainly searched three other outdoor shops in Amsterdam, we finally found supplies of methylated spirits, in order to be able to supply us independently in the evening on our bike tour across Holland.

Excellent, very complete store for almost all your outdoor gear, in a beautiful old building with nice stairs, which gives it something homely and something adventurous at the same time. Staff are very communicative. You can also just choose clothes and try them on. A surprising number of tents have been set up on the top floor!
