The curators did more with less than many of the top museums in Europe. I'll explain: the Field Museum seemed to have less notable artifacts (in Egyptology, for example) than places such as the British Museum. But they were better contextualized in a way that made for an excellent experience.

When buying tickets, the option to purchase the barebones "basic museum only" admission is far from prominently displayed. You may have to ask for it.

Large and in charge, but many if not most galleries are dated, shabby and in need of some attention. Exhibitions let down the grandeur and impressive architecture as well as the expectation after such a hefty entrance fee...

Me and my went there yesterday, we haven't been there in years. It was nice we liked the animals, the skeleton frames of different animals, the Sue exhibit, and the other animals. You could see there..

I found the field museum to be one of the best activities in Chicago. The museum itself is massive offering exhibits from all around the world. Exhibits are abound in variety for both the animal world and human alike. I strongly recommend you get city pass if you plan on going to the other museums as the GA line for all of these buildings is very long and it will take your entire day to see and do everything. My only small complaint would be the cafeteria, which was not well organized or setup to handle the large crowd of the day.

Really an awesome experience. Dnt miss a chance to visit if u r in chicago. But this place is soo huge that you will need 2 full days in order to explore it.

Great day to enjoy some new showcases at the field museum. The history on brewing and how it influenced the area was new to me. we also enjoyed many other areas and interacting with the local guides.

Very cool place. Not as good as the Natural History Museum in New York. But better than anything in Minnesota. When we were there they had a temp exhibit for bioluminescent, there wasn't a single thing in there that was real, it was all fake with UV paints and black lights. I've seen cooler stuff in people's basements. Shoulda asked for a refund.

Of all the museums in Chicago this one is at the top of the list. I have been going here since I was a kid and it hasnt gotten old. They maintain a good balance of creating new and exciting exhibits while keeping the best of the old ones. You can spend an entire day here if you wanted to! A definite must for locals and tourists alike

This place is huge! Plan for a full day because there's so much to see! Each of the major exhibits can take a while to work through but they're so interesting. Plus the variety means there is something for everyone.

A solid museum with plenty of experiencences. My personal favorite was the hall of gems. It was beautiful. The dinosaur and wildlife exibits are also great. Plan ahead because it takes a long time to sea everything.

Wow! Hollywood worthy production here. Huge collection of dinosaur artifacts. Well organized and impressive. Jurassic World was so life-like it was sometimes hard to remember these animals.ARENT REAL!! Well worth the money (which wasn't a lot).

Amazing architecture of the museum, clean facilities and SO MANY different displays and rooms to see! Hard to finish the whole museum in just one visit but some our favorite displays were the plants of the world room, gem room, China, Dinosaur displays. Bathrooms were quite clean, small food area downstairs is good when going with family. Was exhausted afterwards due to the size of the place but loved the museum!

If you are into Museums this place is a must! They have everything and right now there is a special exhibit on the Wildlife Photography of the Year contest that is simply super and a must see.

Great museum to see dinosaurs, insects, an Egyptian pyramid, gems, an asteroid, so much more and special exhibits. My kids liked the underground exhibit where you see what it would be like to tour dirt as a tiny creature. Even better than just visiting is to become a member and go to the open houses. We got to see things you don't normally see like how they prepare bird skeletons (hint: flesh-eating beetles) and they have free ice cream and many other special activities. And, finally, you can interact with real scientists. We had a chat with an entimologist about the decline in Monarch butterfly populations.

10/10

Brilliant props and displays! This place is huge, but there is order to it: it is laid out well for a visitor to navigate. The front desk will give you a map and if you purchase the Chicago City Pass, you get added benefits in the museum.
I highly recommend this place as a tourist attraction and an educational center!
Children can even be entertained easily here!

It was very interesting! Took a 4-year-old with 3 adults and it was a good time. Really liked the Egyptian exhibit (note that I wouldn't recommend the tomb recreation for those that can't do small spaces) and the dinosaurs. The animals were also interesting. We went on an Illinois resident free day and it was more than worth it!! We will go again.

One of the best museums I've ever seen. Most of the animals you never get to see and when or if you see them it's never up that close. It was shocking to see how large the rhinoceros and hyenas were! The dinosaur and other exhibits were all so informative and exciting.

Natural history museum with the world's largest Tyrannosaurus Rex on display. Check their official website to see what is going on at the museum during your visit because it changes. You can spend a couple hours here exploring and learning, but I think there are better natural history museums.

I love the field museum! I've been wanting to go back for a long time and finally went back this past weekend. I saw things that I'd never seen before and revisited favorite exhibits, like the ancient Egypt area. It was an amazing trip with so much to see.

Could spend the entire day here & still don't think you would see everything.....that is if you are reading most of the material. The building is beautiful & staff was friendly enough. Some of the exhibits are a bit dated but everything was well done. A bit annoyed that the museum cost so much & there are three additional exhibits and movie that all cost extra.

Amazing place to learn and spend the day in. You may not like some of the stuff but look or walk around to find something like great.
I would have personally imagined the meseum to be much bigger but still good.

Very nice natural history museum...almost on par with the Smithsonian in DC. We did go on the free tour which I thought was a waste of our time since we had a limited amount of time at the museum. The guide took us to several areas explaining things but we didn't really get to look around. I would definitely head back to this museum to see everything they have.

I'm not sure I can write great enough review about the Field Museum. I believe it's our 3rd or maybe 4th visit and we keep discovering new things to see. The rotating exhibits are good and Sue's new wing is much better where she used to be. I'm very impressed with the hanging plants in the picture also. I think they are real but not 100% sure. You can also get a discouct in the shop if you bought your tickets from City Pass.

Great place! We were able to use our Discovery World (Milwaukee) membership for admission. Paid $6.00/3 hours for metered parking on the street and walked the tunnels to the museum campus.

General admission is quite pricey $$$ plan for this to be an all day event to visit more then half of the exhibits. The best Egyptian and Diansour exhibit I ve seen at a museum. If your into Jewelry, you NEED to visit the gem room, WOW!! Fantastic display of the most beautiful examples of stones I ve ever seen. Clean, for the most part very peaceful while visiting, other guests were respectful to the exhibits. Great experience!

Really appreciated the revised exhibit on races and culture. Way to confront the past and our previously held misconceptions and how they may have contributed to currently held views on race in the U.S. and around the world.
