Unbelievable museum! Plan at least 5 hours to see everything. Maybe even longer.
I'm not a huge natural history museum person, but this place is really well organized. It guides you through the different exhibits to really tell a story, versus just showcasing the artifacts.
Wildlife section was amazing, soil section was very much for kids, but neat.
This a really cool place to visit when you have several hours to walk around every part of the museum. I highly recommend visiting at some point. I cant wait to go back.
Exciting place to visit in Chicago. Evolutionary exhibits are quite interesting. Exhibit of Mummies and China was on point. The 3D movies aren't that interesting but it's not a waste of time either. Can visit along with Adler planetarium or Shedd Aquarium. You won't have the time to visit all three at once. Must visit !
Because I could run with the daisies. Because the sky was a pancake. Because I lived in different times. When pants were effervescent. Because of this I was lost for a moment. Because if this I ate fish. Because there were places unnecessary. Where life tasted of molded jellies. Because memories were lost. Because saints held onto all souls. Because this was real. Right now.
Always a delightful time. The new Sue exhibit is wonderful.
The museum itself is awesome. The exhibits on display were amazing. I could have walked around in the museum for an entire day.... BUT We were kicked at at 2:30 due to a private event happening that evening. We were warned about this when we arrived, but the tickets were purchased in advance and we were only in Chicago for the weekend. It was a bummer because we ended up skipping portions of the museum and rushing through just so we could get to check out the portions we were very interested in.
So much stuff to check out. Needs full day to take it all in.
Fairly good natural history museum. Can't compare to NYC...pretty small in comparison.
Love this place.you cannot see everything in one day! This place is huge.
Great exhibits! I love that they let you bring your own food into the eating area.
Two visits and I've barely seen half of what this massive museum has.
This is a great museum and really fun for kids. Would be five stars but a lot of cool exhibits were extra $. Too many exhibits. I feel like I missed half the museum. The part I did see was great though - well laid out. A few of the exhibits were a bit outdated. The building itself is a wonderful architectural masterpiece. It would be interesting to explore if it was empty.
It is huuuuge here so plan to stay all day. But it was very nice, definitely a must visit.
Please go and visit. It is a must visit musuem. Indulge in your interests for dinosaurs and learn much more. Good for all ages. Buy a citypass for all access. Follow @pairofdirtyshoes on FB and Insta
Can't really beat the classic field museum. Really enjoyed the China exhibit.
Wonderful exhibits. Place is enormous... I could spend days exploring everything.
This is not the type of museum where you walk in and out in a snap. You'd want to stay here for hours. One of the things I loved when first setting foot on the campus was the fact that the people were of mixed variety of cultures and nationalities. It was highly overrun with visitors; so, it's hard to even catch yourself alone somewhere. The place is HUGE; two floors with many exhibits. If you have any health problems or can't stand for long, you may want look into a wheelchair; the place will make you tired. I loved the Egyptian area where they had real walls and even a mummy coffin that we could see through the floor. One thing I don't like about the place is that their bathrooms are pathetic. The women's room had only two stalls and you had a long line that extended out of the bathroom and nearly wrapped around the corner. They should know better and improve their bathrooms.
Lovely. Had so much fun. Shame there was a lot of noise due to construction fro sues gift shop. Coming soon i hope.
Historic museum in Chicago with some great exhibits that come through the years.
Great museum with a fantastic view of Michigan Lake!
The field museum is fantastic, make sure you set aside plenty of time so you don't feel rushed so much to see so many different cultures different areas and the home big Sue. The mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex found right here and United States. Must admit the dinosaur museum Expeditions make me feel like a kid. I guess you'll see most of the pictures I post are of the dinosaurs. a couple of hints if you fly in the Chicago Midway, take the Orange train to the Roosevelt Station and go straight up Roosevelt and I will take you straight to Grant Park which leads you right to both Field Museum and the Aquatic Center. With beautiful views of Lake Michigan.
Very rich collection. Liked the German Submarine and the story of how was it brought to Chicago.
A 100 people in line and 6 ticket sellers. They need to do better. Also no one at the coat check room and the staff so did not care. I went to the information desk to complain and was told 'there IS no one at the coat check, you have to give it to the security guard'. Like how was I supposed to know that? Put up a sign! It's not that difficult and it helps. 35 minutes in line and the city pass isn't an option for us and we can't defect to the short membership line since we have a reciprocal museum membership. In the Bistro...40+ people trying to get food and exactly three line cooks. You'd do better to order a pizza from an outside pizzeria. Terrible logistics. Plan ahead. Museum of Science and Industry handles this waaaaaay better ime.
I haven't been to this museum since I was a kid and it was a great trip down memory lane for me. The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas and I happily wandered around for hours.
Ut was an okay place e but I personally prefer the Science and Industries museum
It has some interesting things but it had uninteresting and half-empty rooms
never enough time to take everything in. always a great time
Amazing. Although I'm sure the best objects are hidden in the basement. ;)
Amazing place to learn and explore a bunch of interesting things However its overpriced. Making it very hard for under income people to enjoy the wonders inside
The Field Museum is an institution, and the museum is generally well done, interesting, awe-inspiring, and thoughtful, but it also seems dated. Many exhibits still have an early 90s feel, and technology and tactile interactives leave much to be desired.
Great museum , be prepared to pay alot of park unless you take public transportation or walk
Great museum but disappointed with price/value. I have been there several times and always entered free as a teacher, but this time it cost $76 for my family. They told us only Illinois teachers are free, but they have always let us in free being MI teachers.
Amazing Museum, Great Exhibits, Well Curated. Friendly staff More then you could reasonably see in a day.
Educational and fun. Had a great time there and will recommend to anyone!
My grandson loves this place because he can visit with the dinosaurs and he learns about a new dinosaur everytime we go.
My favorite place to go in Chicago so much to see and do here
Hit the museum by the time it opens, to see all the sections. Once you enter you will see Sue the dinosaur, which is a marvelous fossil piece in the Stanley field hall. Museum has three levels(Main, Ground, Upper). For adults, start from the Main level. In the Main level start from "The ancient Americas" and end it with "Nature walk". Take lunch in the field Bistro or eat your own lunch in Ground "Siragusa Center". Explore Ground level from "PlayLab" to Inside "Ancient Eqypt". After which if you have 3d exhibits go to the 3d theatre. Now go to Upper level start with "Evolving planet" and finish it with "Hall of Gems". Have fun!!
Was here about 25 years ago and loved it. Not this time. Little has been updated and many of the exhibits were encased in glass that hadn't been cleaned for a long time. Tickets range from $24 to $38, depending on if you want to see a movie and/or some special exhibits. Perhaps one bit of updating should be a change in the name of the Museum to: Field Museum of 3-D Movies and Xtra Fees. Favorable is that I found the staff to be friendly and helpful.
Total enjoyment, so much to learn, see and discover
Beautiful, huge and clean, but... I am so ashame to have to write here, that they spell my birth country incorrect in a chart of a piece of art. They shoud shoose better their workers.
Very beautiful museum, with many rooms dedicated to different themes. History, culture, nature, animals, religion; all the themes are treated there. Nothing to say; extraordinary museum; but beware ... count 3 hours of visit for only the basic exhibitions, with the others count 4 hours! Get ready to absorb tons of info!
The museum has detailed information of many exhibitions, from plants to animal, from underground adventure to soil. A very good field trip place for students as well as adult. Good location, you can see Michigan Lake too.
A little full of kids for my taste but it was all right
I may be spoiled by other museums, but my wife and I were less than impressed. Some of the collections were pretty great, but overall it missed the mark for me. It was disappointing, especially for me, because I love museums and I was very much looking forward to some good anthropological lessons and information.
Only had about 90 minutes to spend in there, which was not enough! There is so much to see! Totally worth it
Best place to go with family and have a lovely walk enjoying the multiple sections, from wild life to prehistoric. So much to see so much to do.
This is an awesome place to learn about culture and history.
Pretty pricey to see everything. Especially when traveling to get there. Only redeeming factor was person who helped us when a machine stole our money down in the lunch area. He was really cool about it.
Really cool place....some stuff is dated but over all I enjoyed it. Check Groupon for ticket discounts
So many cool exhibits! Set aside about 4-5 hours to go through everything.
Great museum covering lots of great content. Animals, plants, architecture and so on. The biggest attraction is definitely the dinosaurs fossil, the biggest in the world so far! Others such as African, Egypt, China, pacific contents are extensive and elaborate as well.
Exquisite, fantastic wonder, a place to visit if you come to Chicago
Wonderful place! Very interesting with lots of helpful and friendly staff.
You need multiple days to be able to read and absorb everything this museum has to offer!! Wonderful destination for families or those who are just interested in natural history! The new china exhibit is breath taking!
We stop in every time we're in town to see the new exhibits. The mummy exhibit was really interesting. Coat check was necessary since it was 7 degrees outside, but it was a nice walk. Needed more time to see everything but we'll come back again.
Plan on spending multiple days if you want to see it all. So much to see and experience.
Absolutely worth a visit if you are at all interested. I spent a lot of time in the paleontology and natural history areas, and found them to be very well done. Even compared to the Smithsonian Nat Hist. Museum. We were there for 3 hrs and did not see it all.
Amazing. You could spend an entire week here and it wouldn't be enough
The must visit museum in the Midwest if not the entire country.
Justly famed for its dinosoars, and with good exhibitions showing aeons of historical development, the museum is well worth a visit. The high entry fees are a drawback to any one visiting from the land of the free (museums).
It s was really boring and for me waist of time .If someone will ask to go again never will go ...Soory
