Excellent Bavarian-style restaurant + bakery in the basement!
As famous as this place is, I am greatly disappointed in their food. The fried chicken did taste like chicken but the breading on it tasted like flour. No seasoning, just browned flour. The stuffing had a chemical taste. The gravy ,Ugh. No flavor but chemical. Did not taste like chicken gravy. At least the yellow and green beans with carrots tasted real BUT they mixed over cooked green beans with undercooked green beans. And the fountain pop dispenser dispensed plenty of carbonated soda, just no Pepsi Or Sierra Mist. Definitely not worth $10. A plate.
Great Chicken Dinner. Great service. Beautifully Decorated.. Our family had a great chicken dinner..
While the world famous chicken dinner is reason enough to stop in to Frankenmuth (as are their other food selections), make sure you save time to go downstairs to the Marketplace and pick up some excellent pastries, breads, and other delicious treats.
I go when the wife's family makes us. Price is too much unless you are able to eat your own weight. Food is fine but limited menu. Atmosphere is like a dressed up school cafeteria. That being said, if they changed it, it wouldn't be the same and they fill the place so no reason to change. Go there once then next time hit the brewery.
First time there, an experience like no other I've had before.
All menu items seem to come with a variety of appetizers to taste and try for free. I had the phylo chicken as a main entree and I've never seen that dish on a menu before. It was great!!
Never a bad meal at Zehnder's and always great service !
It sucked they changed there menu took the 2 things we actually come to enjoy away
Great food. Our five year old loved it and our server Eric was just awesome. Polite, on top of everything. Next time we go we will be asking for his service.
Back again for my annual "free" birthday dinner at Zehnder's of Frankenmuth!
Our server Adalee was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Lunch an dinners r wonderful there's alot of places to shop from. It's awesome time.
Zenders is the best! I always get my fill of chicken and beer before venturing into the little shops and buying little presents for friends and family and myself.
Buffet is a little bland with exception to the coleslaw
I personally don't like the food that much but everyone seems to enjoy it. I find it too bland.
The environment is different and a fun trip with the family. Cool little tourist town that's fun to visit once in awhile. Everyone seems to love the chicken but me so it's likely just me. You'll enjoy it I'm sure
Ahhhhhh the pastries, the chocolates, the food! A favorite place when in Michigan. The cafe on the lower level has the very best fair just like the dining rooms upstairs but you design your dinner or get a sandwich and sides. All the greatness of Frankenmuth packed into a quick meal.
Bavarian Inn is way better, but Zehnder's has a really good cream cheese veggie dip for the homemade garlic crackers that can not be beat.
Zehnder's boasts one of the best fried chicken dinners in Michigan. The building was an old inn built in 1856, bought and remodeled by the Zehnder family in 1927. The facility today has a bakery, deli, stores, a cafe, and a buffet-style restaurant on the bottom floor. The restaurant on the first floor borders on upscale, Bavarian styled staff decked out with outfits and well-kept decor surround you. The food is delicious and always on-point, the buttered noodles and liver paste are my favorite. Staff are friendly enough when approached, your dining experience is always efficient. Beware of busy day's, waits can be long for both restaurants.
Ate at the cafeteria and it was nothing special. Considering the long line, I probably wouldn't go back.
Bought one portion of the chicken dinner and shared it between two people. It was more than enough for the two of us! Though honestly the chicken itself was probably not the best, the meal itself was great!
Great place to take the kids of all ages. The rooms are really nice and clean and come with a mini fridge and microwave. We will definitely be returning!
Wonderful lunch...busy but we had reservations...everything's was delicious and loved the shopping
Excellent place, delicious food and good service!
Excellent place, delicious food and good service!
The gift shops in the basement are awesome. Easy to spend a small fortune.
There are a lot of things to do in Frankenmuth. Going to Zehnders to eat is one of them. The food is always great. Staff is always kind and making sure everyone has what they need. I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time so you aren't waiting in line when your family is hungry. Being a nice restaurant like this, you should be aware that a reservation is suggested. I also love the little store they have underneath the restaurant. Makes for a great time passer if you didnt make a reservation and had to wait for your time to eat.
Way to noisy chicken was not tasty & Dry. Shrimp was fried and also dry. Dont go on a Sunday
I got there at a busy time with my wife, enjoyed the experience, and, afterward, had an enjoyable walk around the town. I can dedicatedly recommend the wienerschnitzel with spaetzle.
Always a lovely time. Everytime i visit it is always very very busy. When putting in your name it is expected to be a 30 to 40 minute wait but it is always normally faster than that. The staff works hard to make sure everyone is taken care of in a timely manner. Food is fairly delicious, the family style is the way to go as you get quite a variety of all product and is sure to leave you satisfied. Lower floor offers dining as well for a cheaper and quicker bite and carryouts. Lower floor also includes shops to walk around and explore and find many beautiful gems and your favorite Zehnder products for purchase. For sure make a visit at Zehnders if you are in Frankenmuth.
Very nice and helpful staff . Great atmosphere. Chicken is great but pretty pricey for blue plate food..
Beautiful place. Upper scale food. Prepared well, especially considering their large customer base.
Always have to make a stop at Zehnders for their amazing chicken dinner spread. All you can eat & I recommend pay extra to have all white meat. After dinner take a stroll downstairs thru the store where you can purchase seasonings baked goods and tons of kitchen accessories. Trip to Frankenmuth isn't complete without at least one chicken dinner :)
Nice place! Didn't eat there but it's a very nice building, cozy, nice gift shops
Hard not to like Zehnder's chicken dinner especially on Sunday with the buffet. Be sure to experience the store downstairs and bakery. A trip to Frankemuth is not complete without a Zehnder's and Bronner's!
Dinner was good. Getting in was a problem. They kept going to about 15 tables beyond us before they said oh we lost your slip. Were not sorry at all.
While most people enter and gravitate towards the main restaurant on the street level, visitors should take a minute to head downstairs to a wide variety of baked goods, candies, and gift shop. There's also a restaurant downstairs that serves brunch on Sunday until 1 p.m. The restaurant is a Mainstay of Frankenmuth and has been consistent in the delivery of quality foods and service for many, many years. It's a must go-to on every visitors trip.
Chicken is way over rated! watch you contracts with them about renting rooms. Even though they have dates wrong you will pay for it in the end. Much better places to go
The upstairs is extremely popular, so the wait can be forever long during the busy season. The food is good, but not my favorite. Now, with that being said, the basement area gets a 5 star! The food is cafeteria style, but excellent. There is shopping, wine tasting, a bakery, etc.
Great service and great food. Definitely coming back in the near future. See you next weekend and looking forward to the great chicken dinner.
Love this place! I've been going to Zehnders since I was little and now I get to bring my son there to enjoy some seriously tasty chicken. The bakery in the basement is worth the trip even if you don't eat there.
There's not much to say beyond what's been said below. The chicken is better than anything but all the food in the family-style dinner is to die for!
This place was beautiful setting and very nice atmosphere. But, the chicken was very dry and had no taste. It is not worth 29.00 a person plus drinks. The Desserts are sam s club specials cut in pieces and have sat out so long it was dry. We could not wait to leave. Go to T Dubs. Much better food.
Don't know what the appeal is.
7 of us met for lunch there and came away less than impressed. Only 2 persons thought their meal was excellent, a chicken meal and the ruben sandwich.
The vidalia onion soup was flavored water with a clump of cheese floating on top.
The creamy coleslaw as some of the best I've ever eaten though. Only issue I have with it is we were served a couple of plates of what can best be described as the blandest white bread on the planet.Makes me shudder to think about it. But we were also served 2 bowls of the creamy coleslaw. Why the waitress didn't alert me that maybe my side order of coleslaw was unnecessary astounds me.
Having said that I was happy to have the extra serving. It made up for the soup which I didn't finish.
Absolutely amazing experience and we will be returning again. Definitely would refer others. Thank you all! Great job
Always a good experience for my family and I. Living in the area, its almost like tradition going for a FREE ALL U CAN EAT CHICKEN DINNER AND ALL THE TRIMINGS. No gimmicks, no purchase necessary, and any day in the month of your birthday a huge, quality chicken dinner On The House. What's not to like?
I will always love this place. I'm getting married here, that's how great of an experience it is. It's my dream! Enjoy the family style chicken and trust that all of the meal is home made!
Classy old school dining with great selection of food and drink, inside a very warm, comforting atmosphere. Wonderful place to take your family for a large sitdown meal, located in a very quaint little city with lots to do and discover in the area.
Who doesnt loved fried chicken, creamy mashed potatoes, and buttered noodles? By far the best place to dine when visiting Frankenmuth. My family has been coming to this fine dining place for years! It is always a tradition to stop before or after our family trip up north!
Always good food there, we were celebrating my sisters birthday
Always amazing chicken dinner with all the accompaniments
Great service, great food, make a reservation to skip the line!
Amazing food, amazing staff, and even more amazing you can take it all home.
