My boyfriend and I went here for a goat hike. Our goat wrangler and guide (I believe his name is Nathan) was awesome. Though the goats definitely seemed to care more about bolting down the wooded trails to nibble on crunchy leaves and pine needles, it was an overall fun experience! I also loved seeing the animals. (Those lambs melted my heart, they were so cute!) We will be back for sure!
Not much to do at the place but beautiful just the same.
Great farm tour, camp sites look amazing. Beautiful water in the cove.
I'm rating the rental facility, not the whole farm. We rented this for a party last fall. Big mistake. They do nothing to keep the general public out of your function. We had to station a family member as a guard. They promissed an exclusive hayride and then made us wait with the general public. We essentially paid 600 dollars to rent picnic tables for a few hours. They couldn't have been less interested when I objected.
Good place to take kids to see animals and also learn.
Wonderful educational resource. I visited as a birthday party was ending. What a great place to have a party for young kids!
This farm has a lot going for it. The campground is in a stunning location with ocean views and great access to the beach. Unfortunately my weekend camping was ruined by the fact that our campsite was in a flooded field. There was at minimum one inch of standing water throughout the field and in other places puddles so large it went in my kids boots. Even the fire pit was unusable. I did complain and was offered another site BUT it was far from my friends sites AND it was only for one night, the following day I would have had to pack up by 11 and wait until 1 pm to move into my new site. Camping with two kids this was not feasible. I get that it s been a wet spring and the staff did pull my camper out for me when I could not get it out with my car, but I was offered no compensation for my site which was basically not usable. I would have been happy with a 50% discount for my next weekend stay, or even a complimentary cup of coffee in the morning. Heck if they had of even just called and warned me I could have brought rain boots and would have been able to access site camper without soaking my shoes. I spent the weekend with wet feet and cranky kids. It was miserable.
Good place to take kids to see animals and also learn.
Wolfe's neck is a great family, farming, educational experience. The food was delicious and the staff where excited about being there despite the heat.
You can't find a better run camp for children. The grounds are wonderful and the children learn how to navigate the outdoors.
Great place to bring children to see farm animals and walk along the ocean.
When we went baby calf had just been born, it was cool to watch a new life take its first steps and coming into this new world
Also this place is splendid and has great activities for youth
Great hiking/walking trails, nice oceanfront campsites, organic farm with farm animals and barns to visit
Nice campsite with very beautiful places. Recommended is the store where organic products from home are sold. Beautiful environment, highly recommended if you like forest water and healthy food. The price is great and the coffee brilliant. Places with electricity and water fully equipped. Volt toilets in the area and extensive facilities at a somewhat greater distance.
Ocean front lots all have a steep cliff the ocean which looks more like a lake,.. no ocean breeze here or salt air or the relaxing waves. The small sandy beach is open to the public for $2.00 and is packed with families / kids not here to camp. the "very used" bathroom is only convenient to a handful of cities....Bring your own outhouse and shower. bottom line; camping in the woods with a body of water.
great location to walk around and check out the animals/education center
A very nice and beautiful learning center my 19 month old enjoyed every part of it. A hands on approache and the staff were very helpful and kind.
Love the events, and Farmer for a Day for my toddler.
Excellent location! Could not find a staff member when another person needed practical help. I'll go again and without anyone who is differently abled.
Great working organic farm. Can pet the cows in the barn, walk the grounds or take a class. Immune berry elixir class was full. Teacher knowledgeable and friendly.
4th year camping on property amazing views and staff is amazing
If you choose your site carefully, you will have a wonderful experience. This campground is really geared toward tenters, as those sites are on the water and a bunch (West Bay) near flush toilets/showers. Middle Bay and East Bay have only outhouses which are not for the faint-of-heart, BUT, if you're looking for wooded quiet, those are the sites to get. Some beautiful ones on the water (but yes, there is a drop-off due to the nature of the coastline - not for little ones less than 4 or 5, or if your child is a daredevil). I chose one near the flush toilets as I brought a 4 yo and also wanted to be near the playground. It was a great choice - an inland (but had great water views) site facing East and the gardens. Nice and shady in the hot afternoon. Check the compass orientation on the campground map to decide if you want your tent lit up first thing in the morning, or sun in the afternoon. Some sites are sunny or shady all day, you really have to check it out or ask before you reserve. Their descriptions on the website are pretty accurate. Mine said "fairly private" and "some shade" and that's what it was. GREAT place for children who love farms, although not much of a sandy beach if that's what is important to you.
My daughter and I come here at least once a week to see the animals. Can't wait until she's old enough to do the classes.
I loved this campground! The site we were on was so big and had a lot of shade from the trees. Also the washrooms near the front desk were especially entertaining! There's those small chipmunks running around each time i went there! So adorable! Anyways, would go back anytime!!
Perfect for small children. Petting zoo, easy trails. Very nice place.
We were able to explore the barns, the garden and had some ice cream! The kids were a fan!
My family loves this place. We stop by for a hike and to see the animals every time we come to the area.
Awesome place to take kids to see real animal births in the spring!
The Farm Trail Loop is great but be prepared for lots of hills.
Visiting May 1st seeing the baby lambs was super sweet.
A nice spot to stretch your legs and breath in some sea air
LOVE this place!! A working farm, campground, and day camp for kids. I take my granddaughter every year and while she's at camp, I have the day to myself. Beautiful setting on the Casco Bay and lots to do. Staff are friendly and helpful, and are always available if there's a problem. There is lots to do and see and the state park is right next door. The whole place is well maintained and is safe. Sadly, this is the first year that anything marred our visit - a local has acquired an airboat and takes it out very early (6 a.m.) and comes back late (10 some nights) and it is LOUD. I have hearing impairment and without my aids it is awful. I can't imagine what it sounds like to anyone else. I can't believe it's allowed to be that loud in an area like this. It was very disruptive and annoying and spoiled my otherwise very peaceful days. I'm not sure we'll be back next year just because of this. I am really disappointed as we love camping here and my granddaughter LOVES Farm Camp and looks forward to it every year.
A Beautiful piece of costal Maine paradise. Feels like farm life on a cloud. Generations of farmers still working the the land till this day. If you are in Freeport it's worth taking the slow drive down all the dirt roads. Quite a treat on a nice sunny day!
Fabulous working farm for kids and parents. We came all the way from England. As well as doing a road trip in our rented RV we stopped here the longest a week, and had a wonderful time. Some classes, blueberry picking, milking tour. Grass fed from the farm burgers from a lovely cafe on site. We have lots more events booked including canoeing ice cream making. The ocean views are stunning and toilet shower blocks are super handy. The staff are very friendly, and passionate in their jobs. Gorgeous part of the world . Nothing comes close for weather and location combined. We were camped literally 2 minutes from the ocean side. You will not be disappointed.
Pretty place to walk by and meet the farm animals. It has a small trail that you can take as well
We love Wolfes Neck, the Spring festival was a blast!
An amazing small farm, very informational and a great learning experience. The staff are very knowledgeable and will answer any and all questions you may have. I bring my family here multiple times a year!
My family and I absolutely loved the ostrich like experience.
Neat little farm with nothing to do but see some animals and give them apples. Stay off the trails they are overgrown, long and dangerous. They do not loop.
The moss classroom was in a perfect place -- such a beautiful network of trails and views :)
A good place to take your kids. We went during pumpkin season.
We loved our time at Wolfe's Neck campground. Best to book way ahead and get a waterfront site...it makes all the difference!
Went here for fall festival. Someone stole my wife's phone but other than that was a great time
Such an incredible experience and entirely free to visit. It is a very large property, probably a couple hundred acres, and with it comes a learning experience for children that is quite rare. It is a working farm and well organized. There's a small barn with newly born animals children can pet. It is self guided we did not see any staff so you definitely have to be careful of little fingers getting nipped. There are long walking paths one of them going down to the shore, and before you arrive there is a small playground area. The shoreline was nice I think in the summer camping occurs there so it might be a little more difficult to walk through but we came on a great day in March and let them play to their heart's content. This is a good property also just to go on a long walk if you have strollers or just want to do that by yourself.
Animals were very interesting to watch as they roam. Great for children and adults.
The animals are great. They are very sociable and fun to pet.
Cute place. I wish they advertised the area better. We stopped in for a quick stop and learned that there isn't much to do. The lady working at the shop was SOO sweet!
Nice to visit the staff friendly and the animals were cutr
Friendly staff who were happy to answer any questions my son had about the farm.
Went for the cheese festival...nice grounds but poor location to have food samples out...way too many flies landing on the food since everything was set up next to a barn.
This is a wonderful place to explore a working farm, the outdoors and the gorgeous seashore.
Wolfe's Neck Farm: A Sustainable Farming and Education Center
Wolfe's Neck Center for Agriculture & the Environment is a non-profit organization located in Freeport, Maine. The center is committed to changing the ways people farm and eat through sustainable farming practices and education. Wolfe's Neck Farm has been a pioneer in sustainable agriculture since its inception in 1958.
The farm covers over 600 acres of land, including forests, pastures, salt marshes, and coastline. The diverse landscape provides an ideal environment for raising livestock and growing crops using regenerative farming techniques that promote soil health, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.
One of the main goals of Wolfe's Neck Farm is to educate people about sustainable agriculture practices. The center offers various educational programs for all ages throughout the year. These programs include summer camps for kids, workshops on regenerative farming techniques for farmers and gardeners alike, cooking classes that focus on local ingredients from the farm itself or nearby farms.
The farm also hosts events such as weddings or corporate retreats where guests can experience firsthand how food is grown sustainably while enjoying delicious meals made with fresh ingredients from the farm.
Wolfe's Neck Farm has a strong commitment to animal welfare as well. They raise grass-fed beef cattle that graze freely on pastureland without any antibiotics or hormones added to their diet. They also have free-range chickens that produce eggs with bright orange yolks due to their natural diet of insects found in pastureland.
In addition to raising animals sustainably, Wolfe's Neck Farm grows vegetables using organic methods without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. They use crop rotation techniques that help maintain soil fertility while reducing pest pressure naturally.
The center also operates a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program where members can receive weekly boxes of fresh produce during harvest season directly from the farm itself or nearby farms they partner with.
Wolfe's Neck Center for Agriculture & Environment has received numerous awards recognizing its commitment to sustainability over the years. In 2019 alone they were awarded "Best Non-Profit" by Down East Magazine readers' choice awards; "Best Environmental Organization" by Maine Magazine readers' choice awards; "Outstanding Conservationist" by Maine Coast Heritage Trust; among others.
In conclusion, Wolfe's Neck Center for Agriculture & Environment is an excellent example of how sustainable agriculture practices can be implemented successfully while educating people about it at large scale through various programs offered throughout year-round events like weddings etc., making it one-of-a-kind destination not only locally but globally too!
