It was basically ice instead of snow, rental skis were prettt horrible, and the food they had was even worse. The ski lift took forever to get to the top with and the lines to the lift was just a mess.

Our teen group from Beacon Baptist Church always has a blast! The resort is set up perfectly to accommodate groups. All types of skiers will find slopes that they enjoy and are challenged by. I highly recommend Winterplace Ski Resort anyone who is looking to really experience wild and wonderful West Virginia in the winter time!

Even tho it was crowded and a little rainy, it snowed a good bit too. Had a blast with some great friends making fun of each other falling down the slopes. Came home sore but that was to be expected! Can't wait to go again!!!

It is a great place for family skiing they have lodges where you can get breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are many slopes in all different levels. Beautiful scenery and you can rent a house right next to the slopes and ski for free if you do that.

Had fun with the kids there today. The staff kept turning a blind eye to line jumpers. Young and old alike. Not sure if I'll be back to pay 40$ per person so that we can get bumped in line by mismanaged staff and poorly raised individuals.

Winterplace was great! I went skiing there for the first time ever last weekend and I had a blast. I was also able to participate in a novice/beginner's skiing class to learn how to properly ski and I'm amazed at how much I was able to learn in just about an hour and a half, I went from hardly being able to stand to being able to move around freely without fear of falling down! I highly reccomend going even you you do not know how to ski or snowboard because they have some fantastic teachers there and the staff is Amazing!

Absolutely horrible reservation team! I booked through them for a present for my little brother. They quoted me one price then canceled that quote and I ended up paying over $100 more because that was their actual price. Their representatives where not helpful and one even hung up on me. The only reason I continued the trip was because of already promising my little brother the trip. I'm a middle school teacher and my students would do better at the job than these so called professionals. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!

A solid and enjoyable skiing experience, particularly for new and novice skiing. (And there are some hidden spots for getting away from crowds.) They do their best at making snow, though the weather in the region means it can get icy here and they can shut down parts. There are lessons at all levels every hour, and the staff tends to be friendly and engaging. The restaurant on site is minimal, and they tend to overcook their burgers, but it will keep you alive. (No external food allowed, alas.) Overall, a fun family experience.

47 degrees, day started with rain. Still managed to have a good time - not a waste of time if you find yourself in a similar situation; just not ideal, obviously. Got there 15 min after opening and only three people in line. Contrary to another review I saw, I don t think their ticketing and equipment process is efficient at all. Maybe just the day I went. I wouldn t want to wait if the queue was full. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lessons were good, but snowboarding instructor doesn t have a natural talent for teaching, to be kind about it. Note it you decide to switch from snowboard to ski (or vice verse) it costs $11. Not happy their equipment forms have you writing down credit card info. They should be shredding this when done; not confident they do.

Not worth the money. Yea I know I came at busy time but I believe business sold way too many tickets for that time slot. Literally over hundred people waiting in line to go tubing. Asked for refund before we even got to tubing area and was refused. First and last time amd wouldn't recommend it to anyone either!!!

It was an amazing place! I'm so glad that this was the place I where I learned to ski!
Every employee is extremely nice. The teachers here are amazing, and the people in charge of the stores are on top of things and ready to help. The people that are at rhe food stand are prepared to help you and to an answer questions.
I can't wait to go back next year with my church!

Wonderful ski/snowboard experience.. the group lessons are good and the individual lessons. Definitely good for beginners and people that ski once or twice a year! Good options of trails!

Visited Winterplace New year's day. Fortunately they had a little bit of natural snow overnight but they did have to produce snow as well. They had a little over half of their runs open. Had a very enjoyable day of skiing. The resort was run efficiently. Staff was excellent. The cafe food was not that great but did the job. If you are looking for an affordable day of skiing you should checkout Winterplace ski resort.

A great place for East coast skiing! It truly is east coast but don't let that turn you away. There are free lessons at the top of every hour for beginners and experts alike. There is a variety of slope difficulties but it's more geared towards beginners. There are still some good runs for the more advanced skier. There is a free parking lot with a wheelchair accessible entrance. Great place when the weather is right!

This place is awesome. Very friendly staff and very helpful. Had a great time, book an all in one package with the lesson, it was great. Conditions were perfect everything went well. Couldn't be happier with my experience. Make sure you come early and prepare to spend about an hour inside filling out paper work and getting fitted for gear before you hit the slopes. All in all it was Awesome!

It was okay. Really no where to just hang out and rest or leave your stuff. Place is small. Expensive and the lessons they offer are not good. We would probably do the tubing part but not skiing.

Love this place. Took my wife and four kids skiing and snowboarding here. We rented there at the resort. They help you get your ski/board boots on, which is half the battle with kids, and made it easy to get out on the mountain with your gear. We put our kids in lessons and they had a good experience. We had a great time and will be back again.

It might have been a nice place, but I couldn t tell because they had every single snow machine turned on. I couldn t see a darn thing anywhere on the mountain. The entire mountain was one white void of blowing snow; at some points I literally couldn t see 5 feet in front of me. It was the most dangerous thing I ve ever seen at a ski resort. I paid $47 for the half day Sunday pass. What a waste of money. Other places I ve been to will close runs while the snow machines work and open runs once they turn off the machines. These guys were like screw it, we ll take everyone s money and still run all the snow machines everywhere. It was downright dangerous, and miserable.

I love this ski resort. Especially for their student discounts on Thursday! The snow is well kept, lines are efficient, and well-trained staff. Ski patrol quickly came to my help when I was injured years ago.

If I could put a zero I would. We traveled all the way from VA (5hrs) to go snow tubing. We paid 150 dollars for 4 of us which was for 4 hours. That s fine, I knew the price and researched ahead. The problem is, they don t limit the number of tickets they sell causing the lines to be INSANE! We waited over an hour per time. Between the lines everywhere we were only able to go down 2 times! 150 dollars for 2 times?? Unacceptable!!!! The food was disguising. They had no straws and no lids for drinks. I mean if you are charging these prices get it together. The answer is limit the amount of tickets you sell per time slot. I will never recommend this place to anyone.

Several nice trails for beginner-moderate skiers plus a handful for the advanced. Worst part was we went during an event (we didn't know was happening) AND on a Saturday so lifts were slow and trails were crowded. Surfaces were pretty icy but it had rained and they can't help the weather.

Food is pricy but it's good, and the rates are a bit high but for the length of trails it's worth it if you go out for the whole day to get your money's worth.

Probably my favorite "local" ski resort (Southeast) and we will definitely be back!

Ski instructor Wes Rhoads is Winterplace's absolute best asset! We brought our children to Winterplace recently so they could learn to ski. They were doing ok after going to ski school and having some private lessons but then we lucked upon the most amazing ski instructor I have ever met - Wes Rhoads. He taught my 5 year old how to really snow ski and ride the chair lift. He helped my 10 year old greatly improve her skills and build her confidence. Wes also helped my ski-school-drop-out husband learn to stay up right on his skis and make turns. Wes took a genuine interest in our family and we are so grateful for the time he spent teaching us to ski. Winterplace is a great place to bring your family. My family is already planning our next trip and we will be reserving lessons with Wes!

We had a less than desirable experience because February was warm and melted the snowpack. We couldn't change the date of our ski trip because of people flying in from Central America to ski that weekend. Soon after, the March snows came.

Yes, we all know snow tubing is fun. But when the place is so over crowded you spend the majority of your time standing in lines, it is not worth what they want for it and it is no fun. They should limit the amount of tickets they sell per time frame so that people who are spending $100 plus for their family will actually get to enjoy their time here. And the food is over priced.

While the resort itself is nice, the group department is a mess and has poor communication. Our group of 20 boy scouts and families were told that we could arrive early Sunday night at 6pm and be fitted for skis as a group to avoid lines on Monday morning, MLK day. We arrived early from Charlotte, NC as instructed, but were told when we got there at 6pm Sunday that we couldn't be fitted as promised. Furthermore, the scouts were sleeping over in the lodge and we were told when we got there that they couldn't unload their belongings until 10pm! The lines were long Monday morning for rentals and by the time some got their equipment they were left with only half the day left to ski. Definitely not worth what we paid, nor the 3 1/2 hour trip from Charlotte. The group will choose another facility for its next ski outing.

Clearly this would be one star if compared to the slopes in Colorado. But, I rate it for what it is: a place relatively close to my home in Chattanooga where my family can ski. We have a good time here. You can have all the runs done multiple times in a day. So, you may get bored if you are an experienced skier and you are here several days.

I went there with my family a couple weeks ago as part of our vacation, they're pretty big into skiing and i figured it would be fun to try. We are from NC so we usually visit Sugar, and we wanted to try something new. So we decided to go to winterplace, I was going to take a beginner lesson, and my family was going to ski. The rental shop was okay, it went pretty slow but the service was okay, we got our skis, and had trouble locating the poles at first, but we found them soon after. I was going to take a lesson while my parents went skiing. My husband and daughter decided not to take a lesson and practice on their own. My instructor looked to be about 12 or 13! His name was aaron and we was sweet, and he taught me how to ski down the baby slope. He had a few more in his lesson, and they were all really nice. The beginner area is crowded though! We had to go by a lot of lessons to get to go down, and the carpet is pretty slow. The teacher was walking faster than the lift. It was still a pleasant place to be, and I went down a blue later that day! It's family friendly, and the food was very good. The chef's arent required to wear gloves, which is why i give only 4 stars. I'm sure they wash their hands, but I'd rather have my food untouched. Still not mad though! Awesome!

This is a great place for low country transplants who need a ski fix to go visit for a long weekend and bring/teach the kids at. Also great for Church group or Scout trips. A great staff and reasonably priced - late February is best time and deals.

I have been employed there for 15 years. Any place has its ups and downs but the owners and upper management have a genuine and passionate vision for the jingle "Pure Fun".
I strongly suggest to visit us. You won't be disappointed.

Very nice place, some lift installations are quite old but still work fine. Well maintained. Good rentals but could have more options for tall people. Very good snow making system/coverage and friendly staff.

Good snow and trails at first, but as we progressed through each trail we realized there were a bunch of trails closed, even though it had a ton of groomed snow on it. We are in the cafeteria the first 2 days, then realized it was equivalent to high school lunch. It's also extremely pricey, $7 for a Luke warm hamburger. $4 for a slice of pizza that's been sitting under the heater for about an hour. Staff was either super nice or very rude. 3 of the lifts also stopped about every 8 seconds. Overall, it was nice at first, but then we realized it was overpriced and not worth it. Not coming back.
