I enjoyed a delicious and hearty risotto and a glass of wine. During dinner time, a Welcome to Country ceremony takes place.
I enjoyed a delicious and hearty risotto and a glass of wine. During dinner time, a Welcome to Country ceremony takes place.
Decent camp grounds. Toilets are clean for a national Park. Gas cooking and water around.
Bit pricy but def worth
Very disappointing.
Breakfast service poor..1hr into time slot for meal, most dishes had run out and no refills available, food had "run out"!
Arrived 5pm in the afternoon staff still cleaning rooms.
Our accommodation booking was messed up upon arrival and half of us had sleeping quarters seperated from one side to the other.
Basically, grossly understaffed and those there were not pleasant and not very courteous.
We would never go back there!!!
Lovely place to visit with the family but unpowered camping sites are pretty expensive.
We stayed in one of the Ikara safari tents. The bed was very comfortable and warm. Which was good since it got to minus 2 overnight! The split system aircon was great at keeping the place warm. Each tent has its own fire pit and I'd recommend bringing your own firewood if possible. There is good firewood for sale at the store but it's a bit pricey. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant was good (didn't have lunch there so can't comment) and again a little pricey but not too bad considering it's remote location. My favourite part was definitely the emus and kangaroos that wandered through in the mornings and evenings.
Air-conditioned comfort, cold beer, decent food and a swimming pool, all the things that you need in a place that can get very hot in the summer time.
Good basic facilities and excellent spot to start from to see the pound and surrounding areas
Awesome service at the resort. We decided to go here for our wedding anniversary and spend some time in nature.
We did a half day 4wd trip and it was so worthwhile to take in the sights. Our guide Mick was very knowledgeable sharing some hidden gems including fossils and landmarks that if we had been on our own we wouldn't have seen.
We topped off our trip with a 20 minute flight over top of Wilpena Pound. It was seeing it from the air that bought it home how precious (and unforgiving) this country is. Such beauty and awe in that flight. It is a must if you are out there so you can truly appreciate a different perspective.
We are regulars at the resort and enjoy our visit every time. Good facilities and enthusiastic staff.
Glamping at Wilpena Pound Resort was one of the best decision I made in 2018.
Fantastic service, warm and welcoming staff members and love the location. Waking up to wallabies and other animals were fantastic way to start the morning. See below for a photo
The sunset and the sunrise = not to be missed.
The program that they have - 4 wheel drive tour (see below for photo) and 20 minute scenic flights were also very informative and interesting. Ran by Indigenous tour guide, sharing stories about the culture and history.
I have been telling my friends about what a great place it is and am definitely planning to go back in the next couple of years.
Beautiful place. I m glad I decided to stay here. Wonderful safari tents. Friendly and helpful staff. Abundance of wild life. Beautiful views from the patio. Best for stargazing too. Can t wait to come back.
Accommodation was average. If I go again, I'd camp. But a beautiful place
Beautiful place.staff didn't even talk or acknowledge we were there
A very enjoyable couple of days spent their. Staff extremely helpful a big Thankyou to Shaun Brian Rana and Andrew
Omg it was a once in a life time thing glamping is the way
I just spent a perfect weekend at Wilpena Resort staying in the Ikara safari tents for the food and wine weekend. We had the most amazing weekend in the most stunning environment ever. The staff were all amazing and friendly and helpful. The food was incredible and the wine was delicious. The tent looked sensational for the dinner on Saturday night- we enjoyed a superb dinner. Congrats to all involved in organising this fabulous weekend. One of the most impressive things was the immaculate grounds, not a piece or rubbish to be seen. an absolute credit to the staff.
Camped for 2 nights. Clean toilets and showers. IgA store has all the supplies you need.
A little paradise hidden in the Flinders.
We stayed in the campground and the size of the grounds were huge, the surrounds were beautiful and the grounds staff are friendly and helpful with incredible knowledge of the surrounds. There is so much more here than I could have ever anticipated.
Only 1 bit of advice for visitors, would be to plan ahead and perhaps book ahead (we didn't but still found a space available) as it get's far busier than you could imagine around school holidays.
Can't wait to visit again and stretch the legs even further!
Location is great. Staff lacked experience. The glamping accomodation was extremely basic, sheets were dirty and well worn. Reported a broken chair, broken light fitting and globe for lamp. Were given a light globe and even though we were there for 2 nights the rest wasn't done. Glamping tents are very close to each other no privacy.
It was every expensive and there was nothing special about it.
When it comes to peaceful getaways from the rat race with great 4wd and walking tracks in the area this is the place to be. 3 visits so far and will be back for a 4th. Restaurant, swimming pool and camping amenities all excellent.
Excellent location - walking distance from the Wilpena visitor information Centre and a major trailhead for some fantastic hikes
The accommodation and restaurant was decidedly average, with one big plus and one big minus
+ very friendly helpful staff
- brown water from taps
Everything else was passable (food, cleanliness, facilities etc) but not great
Don't - expect resort quality food and facilities
Do - expect spectacular scenery and great access to trails
Do - bring or buy water
Lovely, friendly staff. Spectacular location. Breakfast was delicious.
Unfortunately very understaffed, staff not familiar with the area/tours/attractions and services. Room was not suitable for a young family. Old and in need of updating. Extremely dusty carpet and bad for allergies. Cramped and very over priced.
stunning location, lucky to have a birthday treat and stayed in the glamping "tents", get out and about for a full experience
Pricy but great location
Recommend the 18km loop walk but leave plenty of time to do it...
Nice camping area. Showers far too cold and no water pressure whatsoever. Toilets and showers need to be cleaned more than once a day in peak periods eg; Easter. BYO toilet paper!
The location was great, between trees and ideal base for touring. Some kangaroo and emus walk around there in the evening. The sanitary facilities, on the other hand, are a disaster, but that is also true of some users ...
Was very dubious about coming after reading the reviews but was pleasantly surprised, its not the Ritz but its outback Australia, staff have been helpful and polite, room clean and tidy, the food is fantastic especially the burgers...ignore the bad reviews from fussy people and come experience it
What a fantastic place to stay! Gorgeous country, fab facilities and food and friendly staff. Will be back!
The staff were extremely rude. No smile no nothing on arrival. I made an error with my booking and when I checked in I was kindly told that some one has written in CAPITALS under no circumstances give this guest a refund - may I add, I wasn t even asking for a refund as the error was entirely my fault.
To add to this the aircon was broken and extremely loud and dirty, the shower was clogged with a previous guests hair, and looked like it hadn t been properly cleaned in months. Glasses in the room were disgusting. There was mould all over the bathroom, and the bedsheets were covered in stains. The whole time we were there we felt as though we were an inconvenience to the staff. The location is good, but I would never stay here again, there are much nicer, friendlier, cleaner and cheaper places in Hawker. So I would recommend staying there.
Would give zero stars if possible.
Went to wilpena pound with friends all tented had a ball ...walks were beautiful was wrapped that there was no internet which made us all enjoy exploring more..absolutely loved every min of it...we had a ball...fun is where you make it and using your imagination...ok toilets and showers are not the hilton hotel but hey they were functional...staff were fantastic and cant wait to return... happy campers...
Didnt stay here but we did go for happy hour and the welcome to country talks They were all good and very informative
Fabulous place to walk, chill out and enjoy this great country
Great experiences at the resort. It would have been 5 stars although the shower/toilet facilities need a little work.
We had a lovely stay in one of the safari tents - it was spacious, had an enormous and comfortable bed and a great bathroom with a walk in shower. The view from the tent was amazing and it was nice to sit on the little verandah in the evening to watch the stars. Although the decor in the restaurant and cafe could be more modern and inviting, the food was great and the staff was so friendly too! We also did the Sunset Spectacular experience that was indeed as advertised - a short drive to the lookout and one of the most beautiful sunsets ever (the wine was fine too but it wasn't as spectacular as the sunset). Would definitely come again if we were to visit the Flinders again!
We stayed at the camp site, not in the cabins. But we had access to the resort facilities i.e swimming pool, bar and restaurant, information desk... very friendly ladies at the reception, nice pool, beautiful sites with wildlife around, there is really nothing to complain about.
Very nice atmosphear, very helpful and friendly staff.
Great spot and Charlie and Mick at the visitor centre site do a fantastic job, theres loads of areas to camp here, theres shade, good amenities for campers, and even fuel and an Iga keeps supplies in check, long weekends are a bit loud as expected, but come any other time and youl see how peacefull it is. The resort is separate from the campsite area, its great too. The glamping tents up the hill from the campsite is really great and worth every cent. Go to the wilpena pound lookout, or walk up Mount Ohlsen bagge. (1.8 km) Neverending adventure, and peacefull environments await. Get out on the trails and respect and apreciate what the indigenous legends have felt for thousands of Years. Nukkan
This place reminds me so much of Yogi Bear. Such a great family campground! Great facilities for the location. Make sure you take the time to hike St Mary's.
Excellent acommodation considering you are in the middle of nowhere, although getting a little old and in need of some refurbishment. Excellent attractions (scenic flights, 4WD tour of unbelievably interesting Flinders Ranges nat'l park, walks, swimming pool...). A little overpriced (particularly their shop) but overall good. Great service and very friendly staff.
Loved it, great base to explore the surrounds! Spectacular scenery
Staff very pleasant. Liam at restaurant exceptional. Hamburger was very good. Contrary to previous bad reviews. We had a great time. Very hot whilst we were there.
Friendly staff, amazing surrounding, occasional surprising marsupial guests
Thought the rooms were incredibly overpriced for what they were. Very cheaply made and the walls are awfully thin, could hear our neighbours talking quite clearly and were woken up every time somebody walked past. Atmosphere was a bit like a retirement village. Food reasonably priced and pretty decent. The hikes and the scenery were obviously phenomenal and Wilpena Pound itself is fantastic. Just want particularly happy or impressed with accommodation.
Well below rxpectatipns. Room was not cleaned properly. No crockery or cutlery. Considerong we paid $262 pet night would have expected more. Scenery was nice but we wouldn't bother going again.
Great place to stay. So much to do in Wilpena and surrounding districts.
Ideal location to get away from the big smoke. Ideal bush walk tracks, staff are friendly and helpful. Fantastic scenery. You meet like minded people. Recommend ideal get away spot.
Great location, but amenities were poor. During our stay it was quite wet and many paths were flooded and even the toilets at one point. Amenities were poorly maintained and cleaned. Sites did not have concrete slabs and many flood during rain. But the staff in the office and shop were friendly and helpful. The shop is well stocked but at a price.
Clean, well set up accommodations. Great restaurant and bar.
Disappointed. For $263.00 per night The accommodation was just adequate but the cleanliness was sub standard. The floors and bath were not cleaned properly. The carpets need cleaning. The food was also substandard. The dining room chairs were dirty and the tables not properly cleaned. The staff over the 2 days we stayed seemed nonplused. The last day the staff had changed and seems to have more spark.
Having said that, the surroundings and views were amazing. To walk with the wildlife made up for the latter.
A shame such a beautiful spot is growing very tired.
Couldn't say enough about the hikes and beautiful scenic view each morning .2 night stay.
*stayed in the heyson room*
House keeping training would help the business . With the cleaning of glasses and a quick vacuum, bathroom needs a good scrub, the price that was paid$$$$$,I expected a little cleaner.
Did have a word with the supervising manager ,that doesn't check in on house keeping- i recommend you should.
I have worked in a business in which we take good and bad reviews on board - if I were u I would grab key 51 and go check it out...
Staff meh - a welcome and a smile might help the "resort atmosphere "
BYO plates, bowls, utensils and any bbq equipment, and even a sponge and dishwashing liquid .
I would probably camp next time Instead.at least I would know my expectations.
great management great general manager dealing with our problems in a heigh quality. Good place with many options to play, walking , flight , 4x4 , bike, lots of animals. Finally, great food in the resort restaurant nice chef and staffs
Get there early for unpowered sites, can be hard to find space if you have a trailer/caravan. Other than that great site, location and staff. Food was great from restaurant aswell. Deffo worth doing some tours with Mick. We also got smashed by a sandstorm, it was brilliant haha
Did not enjoy it, poor service and very poor performance in the meals long wait, the stay was good and the views were great.
Call it a campground. Note, let's not call this a caravan park. It is a campground with bonus amenities and for that it was awesome. We did visit in the off season over new year so it was not too busy. It made "camping" in the outback bearable for those who have become used to the city life.
Mixed feelings about this place. It was ok but for some reason it seemed a bit of a mess. That said, it has fuel. The restaurant is a bit of a waste of time and money though.
We camped there for our stay.
Really helpful and informative staff at the visitors info center and you MUST attend the "Welcome to country " held at the Resort area every night for free.
An excellent campground with really well maintained camping areas and amenities.
Toilets and showers always cleaned.
A great camping place catering for caravans and tents, powered and unpowered. Great location with access to a general store and eating facilities (part of the resort). The hikes and walks are superb with most going inside the Wilpena Pound. Other attractions can be accessed by car within a day's drive.
We had the breakfast buffet, it was delicious, the service was friendly and the view was nice. Good value for money
Helpful staff and a great breakfast. The cabins are cozy, aging a little but quite adequate within the beautiful setting of Wilpena Pound.
Pleasant stay with a cool pool and tasty meals. Aboriginal tour guide Jimmy was very informative. Room isnt elaborate but has the basics and the bed was comfortable. Trees and wildlife emus rabbits and kangaroos are abundant. Many interesting walks around the resort.
Great campsite here, level sites for a tent, amenities cleaned daily and great showers. Camp sinks for washing up and fire pits in the colder months. The staff are awesome. We loved the welcome to country and the chance to spend time with the Adnyamathanha people, learning about their history and stories.
Highly recommended
My partner and I stayed in one of the Ikara safari tents for two nights, at $340 PER night. The safari tents looked wonderful online, and we thought the high prices they were charging would be reflective of an amazing stay and be well worth it - WRONG!
The tent had a kettle, bar fridge, two glasses, two mugs, hairdryer and AC unit. Tea/coffee/sugar sachets provided but no cutlery, not even a teaspoon to stir coffee with. They say each tent has its own fire pit - but be aware you have to buy your own firewood at $22 a bag, as well as matches to light the fire if you didn t have any on you already. The metal frame/wires holding the safari tent together need some serious TLC with some WD-40, they squeaked so badly and loudly when there was any wind which kept us awake both nights.
It was evident that someone had attempted to housekeep our tent - bed was half made, used glasses and mugs were not replaced with clean ones, rubbish not removed, bar fridge door was left wide open (with our drinks inside), surfaces/floor not cleaned, towels not replaced.
We had dinner at the resort s restaurant on the first night. Service was awful and food was average at best. Our meals were not hot and when politely made aware of this, staff did not apologise, rather said to us they are busy so our food was sitting there waiting to be taken out for a while. The restaurant was not overly busy from what we could see. Customer service seemed more like a chore rather than a job to the staff. Drove an almost 2 hour round journey to the Blinman Hotel for dinner on the second night which was a hundred times better in regards to service and food quality.
I will say the location of this resort was great though. Lots of walks to go on of varying difficulty and length with great views. There was also an IGA on site that had plenty of things on offer. The AC in the tent was very effective, it kept us warm during our stay. Bed was pretty comfy too.
Overall, was expecting a lot more for what we paid and certainly will not be staying there again or recommending it to anyone.
Great location, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Went there using a Cudo deal and it lived up to expectations. Reasonable food, value for money.
Comfortable stay, great staff and food. Tired but clean facilities.
Great location but unfortunately needs lots of work to bring up to the standard you would expect for the prices being charged.
Or main reason for staying was to fly over Wilpena pound unfortunately the day we booked the weather was not suitable.
Let's hope that that lift there standards and make for a memorable holiday for the right reasons
Service was fantastic, could not fault the staff one bit. Very helpful and attentive at all times. We stayed in a safari tent. Tent was very clean new and fresh. Relaxing location with pleanty of local wildlife. Information centre was great, staff very knowledgeable there also. We had a problem with our tent on the first night, local "bushmice" decided to enter the tent and have a field day running all over, however reception where fantastic offered us another tent and free drink vouchers eventhough it was not their fault. Overall would definitely reccomend, restaurant and bar was social and lively.
Large room but it has seen better days. Close to walking tracks but no views. Food options are nothing special and a bit expensive. Probably would stay somewhere else if we visited again.
I didn't hate the place, but it needs a big reno! Rooms were sub-std. They didn't spoil the Wilpena Pound experience however; that was totally amazing!
This place has always been a favourite but this last visit has seen the place slip in standards a bit. The dinner venue was crowded loud and food was very average. This place has always had great food so I hope it was only just a one off failure. The lovely green grass and wallabies have gone from the front entrance adding a lovely softness to the environment .
We stayed in a safari tent. Lovely views. About an 8 minute walk to the pool and restaurant. Cleaniness was ok but not great. Food menu was a little sparse. Only one small menu between the restaurant and bar. Lack of enthusiasm amongst staff. Still, lovely area and we had a nice time.
Get out and be touched by nature s charms very wholesome. Camp, walk, hike or bicycle and then curl up in the wonder and mystery of nature and be enthralled in the silence. A good book and great camp cooking a treat Australia offers don t take it for granted
Very dated&things tited with furnishings stained-but staff friendly. Chef cant cook red meat in restaurant-ordered rare roo&got well done then ordered blue scotch fillet&got medium¬hing done when mentioned problem. Snitzel was thick&moist. Housekeeping was a bit hap hazard&all over place with most purchases being overpriced.
Has a new IGA supermarket that sells everything you could want at reasonable prices
The resort has a swimming pool, restaurant with $15 lunch menu, motel type accommodation, daily "Welcome to Country" ritual and plenty of wildlife feeding at this little watered oasis in the middle of hundreds of miles with nothing but stark desert devoid of vegetation
Our 2 night stay at the Wilpena pound resort was such a great experience. 4 of us shared the Heysen villa overlooking the woods and it was so good to wake up to.
Kasuni at the reception and another male staff at the restaurant (unable to recall his name, however he was on duty on Friday 28th August night) were very friendly and extremely helpful with answering all our questions on tours, hikes and sightseeing.
The resort had a camping ground, glamping tents, and different types of rooms. Food was average at the restaurant and the pool was closed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
As listed on their website when we clicked the Heysen room details,We expected our room to have a microwave however only the Edoware room had this feature. The reception staff however said that it says in brackets that it's only available for the edoware room. We found it confusing however!
When booking the room we were told that the Aroona room can be shared only by 3 guests even though the website says 4.
Overall it's a great place to stay!
Room fittings were a little bit old, but maintained very good. Bed was comfortable.
Nice rooms and surrounds but done sort of cheaply. Ie no Internet, hard pillows, only two glasses in a room of 2. Breakfasr toast was either basically uncooked, or burnt.
Rooms really clean.Checkin staff very knowledgeable
