If there is even the slightest chance you could lo...

If there is even the slightest chance you could lose a wallet or passport, or have them stolen, during the course of your travels to New York, I would not recommend staying at the Westin. In a day when customer service is of critical importance and there are thousands of hotels in New York that provide elite customer services.... I see no reason why visitors would want to make their reservation at the Westin.

I recently booked and attempted to check into the Westin on my trip to NY. Unfortunately, my wallet was stolen the day prior to checking in, including my license.

Despite this, I still had in my possession and available to show the desk a photocopy of my (lost) license; a photocopy of my passport; another valid, state-issued photo ID; as well as a valid credit card in my name.

There was obviously more than sufficient proof that the person in question was myself - these documents are sufficient proof of Identification for the DMV to replace a lost license in the first place. I was told by manager Gustavo Polanco that my state issued photo ID was NOT a valid photo ID (yet it IS, according to the DMV, Bank of America, or the US Department of State). Furthermore, I have stayed in this Westin before, so I d imagine they have some records of 1 or 2 prior stays, which they did not even bother to look into.

I was told it is the company policy to accept ONLY licenses and passports as forms of valid ID....... meanwhile, this hotel had been recommended by someone who had been in a situation similar to mine and had been helped without having a physical copy of his license
in the weeks prior.

The front desk staff was impolite and unhelpful in resolving the issue, preferring to chat amongst themselves rather than possibly do anything that might help to recognize that I had a valid ID. The front desk staff and manager on duty, Gustavo Polanco, not only were impolite and unhelpful throughout the ordeal, and rejected a valid photo ID without even making an effort to look into its validity- but clearly make up policy as they go along and turned back me out into the cold without lifting a single finger to help resolve my issue or putting any effort into finding an alternative solution.

If anyone has had similar experiences, I d recommend you share... it s a help to anyone who my run into some misfortune while traveling or who pay a decent amount of money for a room, which ties up their accounts and destroys travel plans with little regard for the traveler.

Hope you all have a better experience than I did - from my own personal experience, I would recommend a hotel like The Tuscany on E 39th, the Hyatt Centric on W 44th(?) or the Intercontinental on W 44th - all are better quality and can often be found for a better price! Enjoy your travels

Good hotel, close to Time Square. Reasonably priced rooms.
Resort fee included 25/day food and beverage credit ama $10/day laundry/drycleaning service. (Prices are very expensive) .
Some downside was that our room did not have microwave, they charge extra for having one.

Gorgeous designs at the lobby. This westin is pretty small compared to the others. There ain't no platinum floor so you have to get breakfast downstairs and theres usually a long que but besides that its a lovely place to stay.

Excellent hotel located in the heart of Times Square.
Simple and functional room.
Excellent gym with state-of-the-art equipment.
Breakfast a little poor in variety.
I would go back for sure.

One of the best located hotels and every interaction with staff was pleasant and helpful. They go out of their way to accommodate . You are in middle of the city and yet very quite indoors . The Kitchen is 24x7 and that's new York for you ! The lounge is excellent and there is every imaginable facility , convenience within few blocks . Airport is not far either .

Can't really fault this hotel at all although we were lucky to have a family room on 11th floor. Nice location, close but not too close to Times Square. Very clean, friendly staff, comfortable beds.

Hotel location is great! However, tv was placed in one side of the bed instead of in front of it, plastic cups on bathroom instead of glass, no housekeeping service one day, low floor room (in comparison with the other rooms) when we asked for a nice view.

Was there for a professional event. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable and the breakfast was a good mix of options. My only frustration was the zero cell service and the only way to get a signal was through the event WiFi that the sponsors of my event didn't provide.

I do like this hotel itself - certainly worth more than 2 stars - but the valet really dragged it down. They clearly thought it was ok to go through all my stuff, somehow screw up the nav system login (which had all my destination info for this trip) and arrive with radio blasting hip hop. Very, very surprised at the lack of respect from the Westin people.

I stayed at the Westin NYC Times Square from Dec. 1-3, 2018. Check in was incredibly slow and the line was long. They only had one staff member doing check-ins that afternoon. The first night was uneventful. I returned to the room late after a show and slept. When I woke up in the morning, I realized that my duvet cover/duvet had a huge rust colored stain all over it. I had slept with a very dirty duvet. I threw it off the bed and did not use it again. it was replaced later that afternoon. The maid must have finally noticed it. But clearly my linens were not changed before I entered the room. That is disgusting. The room condition was fine, but not exceptional. It is a bit run down which is unfortunate for the amount of money that was charged. The biggest issue I had was that 4 days after checking out, I received a $337 charge on my credit card from a hotel...in Orlando Florida! I reported the fraud and am waiting for a new card now. I did contact the Westin Billing department in NYC to confirm that I had not been charged that amount legitimately for some reason, but they had not. When I stated that I had been charged fraudulently, the billing agent LAUGHED and said I would have to take that up with Orlando. Very unprofessional. I did reach out to the hotel but its been a week and no word back yet.

Nice hotel. Comfortable accommodations, bed, TV, and space. Paying for wifi is ridiculous in this day and age. Also the motion sensor turn off lights in the bathroom mean your lights will turn off during showers. Oh, and don't swap a soda in the fridge with your own to cool it down. The fridge has sensors, and they'll try to charge you even if you don't drink it. (At least they refunded me!)

great hotel right in the heart of it all. That can be a blessing or a curse but either way you're staying in a great hotel with great views of the city. The location is just far enough off Times Sq that you can get out on 8th and head north or south without issue. They also have a great door guy hailing cabs. The rooms are contemporary and well appointed. The bathrooms are especially peculiar but very sheik.

Really great experience with this hotel. Staff were attentive and friendly, and allowed us to upgrade to a corner room with a great view upon arrival. Unlike a lot of nearby hotels the rooms were spacious, secure and comfortable. Plus the location is perfect, especially if you're only in the city for a few days.

Ok. Rooms are small. Service is good. Location is good if you are looking for something right in Times Square. In one occasion I got a very nice corner room but the next time I got a very bad small room. I guess this is nyc

Staying here for 10 nights and the lack of costume...

Staying here for 10 nights and the lack of costumer service is really unexpected. Tried to start working in the room, when constantly loud wall drilling sounds came from the walls, really disturbing. Called reception to get some information on how long this is going. Got redirected two times, in the end the answer they don't know maybe whole day like 4pm ... Asked if there is any other room I could use in the meantime, they said no, only option would be the lobby downstairs. As I need the privacy for some calls, I stayed in the room. They said if any other room options comes up they will call me. Of course no one called. Instead today again, similar working noises. I'm not complaining about necessary refurbishing work, I know this is needed from time to time, but in any other decent hotel, they would at least offer you something, like a breakfast voucher, or bar voucher or whatever, just a small thing that would make you feel there is some customer orientation. Instead, here you feel you have to apologize to even ask about some information.

Careful with the Turist Trap!

Careful with the Turist Trap!

I went ahead and book 1 night at the Westin at a great rate via priceline (100 usd/night). I was just staying one night since my wife was catching up the next day and she already had a reservation on another hotel nearby.

When I booked the app told me that upon arrival I will had to pay taxes on the room (that was about 20-30 usd) but I did not care since 130 usd/night still was a fair deal.

When I arrived, everything went downhill.
10 people trying to check inn, and only one person helping. Only that process took about 30 to 45 min. (There were two other people waiting on the Bonvoy Marriot counter, and even though nobody was there, they just stay there talking .
When I did the check inn, the girl helping me out tells me that not only I had to pay the taxes of 30 usd, but also I was subject to a visitors fee of 30 USD, but with that fee I was able to spent 30 usd on a breakfast, which in every term is a continental not a buffet as they call it, or on several other upgrades . At the end of the day, the hotel is forcing its clients to spend on their other products/services
The bathroom floor was disgusting + my shower towel had a red stain .
Make yourself a favor a do not book this hotel, there is plenty of nice ones, among the same price range which they charge (with all their hidden fees and all) and you and your family will have a better time.
(Stayed there 4/29/19)

I ve never stayed here and I don t plan to but your logo is a rallying cry for me and my weird friends so thanks a bunch. Your big ol W shone through the mist in New York harbor circa June 2018 like the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us.

With love,

This is a classic Westin setup, this would not be my first choice when visiting New York City due to the location, unless you don t mind being surrounded by a thousand plus visitors on a 24 x 7 schedule. This hotel is very convenient if you are into the attractions that midtown Manhattan offers. Now the ugly parts, Transportation if you have somebody driving you around New York City budget extra time for pickup and drop off because I m one block away can translate into 30 to 40 minutes of wait and also a friend of mine stayed there and she had a close encounter with Bedbugs, but in all due fairness this is a NYC problem not exclusive to the Westin.

Wonderful experience at the hotel. The staff was great and very helpful. The room was comfortable and quiet. There was an issue on our bill and the staff resolved it immediately. The location is great - close to several subway lines and the bus from Newark.

A few months ago they started adding a "destination fee". They charge you an extra $25 per night under the excuse that you can spend on concierge stuff.

The hotel is nice but I really hate that kind of dishonest billing.

Staff went the extra mile to help.im my request for Distilled water for my CPAP machine and to get correct plugs for my nebuliser as well. Front counter staff were very helpful in showing us how to get to pick up our already booked Hop on Hop off bus and where to find the best places to see and explore.

Ensure you're aware of the $25/night "Destination Fee" they will charge you and not tell you about - I was a part of a dozen guests who all got charged this and nobody realized until after checkout. It gets you credit for food, laundry, and internet, but they don't tell you. Very sneaky IMO.

Aside from this the room was nice, bed was hard as a rock, pillows were lumpy, and didn't stand up to my usual expectation of a Westin. Breakfast was good.

The Westin Hotel is barely adequate for vendor seminars. I felt a bit crowded in the main conference room. The projector and microphone system is out dated. Overall I give a 5 out of 10 score.

The location in the middle of Times Square is the real strength of this hotel. With regards to the rooms, they are generally nice enough for the price but the overall experience would vary significantly depending on where the room is situated. Service could be better and beware of not moving the items within the fridge or you may well be unduly charged!

I came to NYC to celebrate my daughter's birthday and was greeted with cake and champagne. Nestled on the corner in the heart of Times Square, the location is excellent. Great Taco bar and coffee shop across the road for a quick snack I between touring NYC. Will return again.

Good location. OK price, nice employees. Big and comfy beds. I agree that it is very sneaky to charge a $70 destination fee on top of the room cost and taxes. The $30 breakfast is a big rip-off. We wudda stayed somewhere else if we knew about the "destination fee." Won't stay there again (but no bed bugs)

I've stayed at this Westin at least three times now and about to visit soon again. First of all, their location is the best. Nothing beats where they are as they are within walking distance to shops, restaurants, attractions, and subway! Service at this hotel is always pleasant and their rooms are very clean and spacious. Looking forward to visiting again!

Do yourself a favor and choose another hotel, don't be fooled like I was. My first time staying at a luxury hotel and it was my hands down my worst hotel experience. I've addressed my concerns with management and the long-winded, no-answer response was "I'm sorry you feel that way."
I've never spent $3,000 on a hotel stay but I thought it was a special time to indulge but it was an EXTREMELY bad choice. I usually can find a silver lining in things but I've got nothing.
only pro? It smells really nice in the lobby.
