West is where I learned to ski. As an advanced skier now, I still use West for fine tuning my form for the bigger terrain up north and back country trips during the winter. Family friendly, decent terrain park, lots of lines, and always a blast.

Alright, the tubing experience was pretty cool, but their customer service is HORRIBLE and for that, I won't return with my family. I purchased 6 2-hr tubing tickets and went to use them today and was almost turned away because it was so busy. Admittedly, it's a busy time, this was my first time going there and I'm not familiar with the etiquette at a ski lodge to begin with. But, when you purchase the tickets as I had, online in a bulk of 6, you don't get to choose a time slot. So, I didn't realize that you have to basically risk going at certain times or else you are turned away. Maybe there was some fine print I missed regarding this provision, but I'm going to declare that to be a ridiculous policy regardless, which wasn't communicated very clearly when I got them. They shouldn't be sold in that aspect if you're going to risk getting up there to he turned away. We were obviously told we couldn't use them, at least until 4 pm (4 hours after we arrived). However, even if we stayed that long, if the time slots filled up, we would have still been S.O.L. because they won't reserve you a time slot, even though you bought the tickets...another reason to justify my reasoning as to why this policy is absurd. I had asked if there's anything that could be done and the 2 women at the counter were dismissive of course because well, they already had my money on the passes anyway, so I asked to speak to a manager. The manager was one of the rudest I have ever encountered...I was told her name is Shannon btw. Anyway, I asked for a refund if we couldn't use the passes. I know that's against their policy, but was disappointed at how we were clearly being an inconvenience and the fact that we drove an hour and a half to not use what I had purchased. She says to me condescendingly, these were a gift - I am NOT refunding you money for a gift. Excuse me...first off, watch your tone and secondly, don't make assumptions...I bought them myself and had the receipt in my hand! I asked to speak to her Supervisor and then had to argue with her because apparently her Supervisor would only tell me the same thing, but she eventually left and spoke to someone. Maybe 5 or more minutes later, she comes back and snaps - are you looking to go now. I said yes and she disappears for a minute. She comes back and slams our passes on the desk and says, here! I responded that she doesn't have to be rude and she had the audacity to say you don't be rude! Strikes 1 & 2 right there! Strike 3 was when the worker at the bottom of the small hill says to my 9 yr old son "Are you blind? Move!" because he was a little disoriented upon getting up at the bottom of the hill from spinning and didn't move fast enough. Mind you, he was far from being a danger to anyone. That same worker was screaming at people like a lunatic to use their feet when they were going too fast down the hills. I get that it was chaotic, but NEVER, EVER, EVER again will I spend $ at an establishment that excuses that kind of ruthless customer service! That was ridiculous to say the very least.

West Mountain is under NEW MANAGEMENT!! They have made a significant difference in the quality of their services and appearance. I would highly recommend any one who has or has not been to West in the past to give them a shot. It is obvious that the new management team is dedicated and passionate, I wish them the best of luck!!

I only went tubing but it seems like a really good mountain to ski on, so no matter your interests, you should definitely visit.

Nice place for anyone who is learning to ski. This is not a large place but there are plenty of green and blue options. Snow making and grooming is excellent. Only negative was the signs identifying the slopes are hard to see or read and confusing.

We have taken several lessons as the family learns to ski for the first time, and I learn to snowboard (as a long time skier).

The entire staff at West Mountain has been extremely helpful. These folks really seem to care about providing a good experience, and went above and beyond on many items for us.

The ski school staff has been very patient as we learn. We appreciated how they would show us a concept, make sure we understood it, and then continue on to the next concept. This allows us to practice each concept before the next lesson, providing a spring board for accelerated learning. The learn to ski package of three lessons is an incredible deal!

Thank you West Mountain for taking care of both your employees and your customers!

Just enjoyed a great long weekend at West Mountain. Tubing on Sunday and skiing on Monday and Tuesday. The guys and girls have done a great job on keeping the runs open. Special thanks to Steve for looking after us so well in the hire shop. This is a great family resort.

This is a nice middle-of-the-road mountain, not overwhelming like Gore, and not tiny like Willard. There is a ski shop, ski instruction, and a four-person lift that will get you to the top of the slopes. The ski instruction is not as great as at the smaller mountains, and it's much more expensive than at Willard. But, we had a fairly good experience with the instruction as at used I Ski NY and received a free lesson.

The rental shop is overworked and is not connected with the computer system, so even if you order skis online you are going to have to fill out another piece of paper that says the same thing. It's inefficient and aggravating, and on weekends it can take a long time to get your rentals sorted out.

the lodge is okay, it's very crowded and hard to move past each other on the weekends. It could do with a bit of an expansion. I believe they are upgrading their concessions in the next few months, so that will be something to look forward to.

All in all, it's a good place to go skiing, although allow for extra time to get rentals and consider taking lessons at a different location if you are just starting out.

This is a great learner mountain. I was blessed enough to learn skiing on this mountain with the old owner. While change is good, and the mountain has bounced a bit back, I gave it 3 stars. I gave it 3 stars because I have been to the Mtn on several occasions and it appears that no one thought about safety in regards to walking in and out of the lodge in ski boot or reg. Boots and left solid levels of ice. This is a law suit waiting to happen.
Also, the Sporting director is not very friendly when coming in the ask simple questions. If this is not addressed, the mountain may suffer as they are in charge of the lessons. The customer service needs a biut more polishing.

We had a great time at West Mountain this past weekend. The Aerial Treetop course was immense fun -- our just-turned 8 year old (close to minimum age and height requirement) couldn't get enough of it. Our guide Daniel was super helpful. Some others in our group brought their bikes and did the mountain biking trails which they found a bit too challenging, so they joined us on the high ropes courses. The scenery on the chair lift going up and the scenery at the top where we had our picnic is breathtaking. A great summer day at West.

We had such a great time at Adventure Park today. Dennis helped our group of 3 moms, 3 11 year olds and one 9 year old. He really made sure we all pushed ourselves as far as we could to and was so encouraging and helpful. Would definitely go back again, we all had a blast! Dennis, if you see this, thank you for a great day!

The mountain itself is pretty nice especially when there aren t many ski team members around. The problem comes when the ski team is around. They put everyone else on the slopes in danger by skiing unreasonably fast and very close to other patrons. They also cut all the lift lines. I personally find this ridiculous! Everyone else who pays for tickets has to wait in line while these kids skip everyone. This may be allowed by the management of the mountain but this seems like it s spitting in the face of all the people willing to pay money to come to this mountain.

After decades of skiing at West we decided to try our hand at mountain biking. West is the ideal place to start you just need to show up in suitable clothes and you can rent the bike, helmet, pads etc anything you need. The trails are well marked and maintained. Special shout out to Jason for taking the time to give us some tips and show us his favorite trails. There are some XC trails are the top if you re not yet ready for some downhill trails.

Always a pleasure to visit this mountain. Night skiing is awesome, staff are friendly, trails are pretty good. Just one suggestion: could you salt the parking lot a little more? It is very hard to walk in the lot without slipping and the only non icy part of the lot are the sections where the cars enter and exit. Hate getting in their way but also hate slipping in falling. Other than that, 5 stars!

Great time on the mountain. Plenty of different options in the ski shop and a very knowledgeable staff. The night ski was well lit and the new restaurant remained open for the entirety of the night (the new cafeteria also is great).

I haven t been to the mountain since I was a little kid learning how to ski, and a lot has changed since then. Way more trails, much better lighting for night skiing, faster lifts and the tubing was the most fun I had in a long time. The food and service in the restaurant were great too, try the chili it waS delicious and warmed me up after skiing.

This is in response to one of the other reviews complaining about the bartender with the black hair and beard. The owners have commented that they don't have anyone on the staff with that description. This is entirely untrue, as we were there for fire on the mountain (6ppl) and that guy was extremely rude and nasty. Downstairs beer stations were great though. Also..what bar/restaurant closes at 6 on a Saturday?

Disappointed, as I have skiied here for over 30 years. I am a physician from another state and made reservations, that I simply wanted to change to another date (after I get vaccinated, so I don't take somone else's test) I cannot get into NY not because I have covid, but due to state regulations on when I need to test. NY simply does not have the rapid tests availabe for someone needing only for travel, and I wouldn't dream of taking someone's necessary test. First I tried to call, multiple days and times. Their only option zero has had a mailbox full for over 5 days now. No one on the phone. So I try and send email. I get a very short impersonal response that says I need a doctors note. So what we know is that this woman did not even read my note which stated, I am a doctor and do not have covid, I am trying to do the right thing. I only wanted to switch days. So now three emails later, and still a full mailbox I had no choice but to call credit card and cancel. Really disappointing.

Absolutely amazing ! I took my husband here for a romantic road trip and it was worth the drive. We decided to upgrade from a regular scenic ride to the picnic package and we have no regrets. The basket came with the table cover, sandwiches were super fresh, cookies, chips, water and fresh fruit cup. When we made it to scenic view we enjoyed every bit of that lunch. If you come I recommend giving the picnic lunch a chance I promise you will not regret it. To make the experience even better the customer service is beyond phenominal (especially during these crazy times) The service was beyond what I would have expected, we will be retuning with two couples in three weeks. If your in. town give it a try !

Thanks to the new management team, West Mountain has catapulted up near the top of my small mountain, close to Albany ski trips list. A quality hill that has improved nicely over the past few seasons. Definitely a great value I would recommend to any beginner or intermediate skier (or advanced skier looking to have fun with less advanced friends/family).

Kids had one week of school holiday, so we decided to take a day off and plan a trip to West Mountain. Prepared my trip one week in advance and ordered tickets via Liftopia website. This saved me money and showed that Wednesday was actually cheaper than weekend or President's day tickets.

It was not too crowded and trails were well prepared. Throughout the day the trails became more icy, but still good to ski. It is a small ski area, with only 2 lifts which take you all the way to the top. There is some variety of trails though, and you can easily ski all trails in one day. My kids are not that experienced skiers and they were able to ski most trails. My son was extremely proud because he went down a double black diamond trail! Don't know what the condition of that trail is normally, but on the day we went I would categorize it as tough blue square or black diamond.
