Family-owned family mountain. Yes there are bigger mountains with greater verticals near here, but this hill is popular with families and beginner skiers and boarders. Reasonable lift tickets, good instructors and equipment rentals. Affordable food and drinks. 2 lodges, easy parking, 3 terrain parks, and a tubing hill. We've probably logged more ski days at this hill than any other, it's a good time and there is beginner to advanced terrain for any ability.

The mountain was easily accessible with quality parking. Getting our tubing ticket tags was easy, and the covid set up 'social distancing flow' was clear and well enforced. The weather was great! Staff was helpful and friendly as were guests. The weather was bright, sunny and awesome. Can't wait to try night tubing.

Im not a ski person. Its cold out. Im just a florida boy. Mabe one day i will learn to snow board . That is more of my speed. My nephew and his friend/class mate go here several times week. They say that west mountain is predominately a ski mountain/big hill! It is definitely a convenient place . Up here near glensfalls this place gets packed its an hour closer than Gore mountain ! So it is taken advantage of by locals and tons of passersbys. Ive never heard of it being a unsafe place for kids . Besides the obvious fall damage . Check it out.

Excellent experience with the West Mountain Rental...

Excellent experience with the West Mountain Rental Shop today. I would like to thank Stephen for helping me adjust my boots today - these were my own personal boots I might add and yet I was treated as though I were renting everything from their shop. I was ready to head home after the first run and feeling so uncomfortable with my new boots. Stephen went out of his way to try and find a solution to assist me and help me enjoy the rest of my day with my children. Very professional! THANK YOU

I spent the afternoon at West Mountain snow tubing with my wife and 10 year old daughter and my brother, sister in-law and their 4 year old daughter. All of us had a great time! Snow tubing on both big and small areas was fun. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We ate lunch and all of the food was great and the kitchen staff were really cool and helpful. Awesome fries! Looking forward to many more visits!

Great updated tubing area for everyone! Conveyor belt brings you up. 4 lanes at the top, 6 at the bottom. Fun for all ages. But your tickets in advance and save some money. Highly recommend for families and those who can't/don't know how to Ski.

46 min drive from Albany,NY.

Every year the owners and staff at west keep upping their game. Snowmaking this year is fantastic, grooming is hands down well done. Lighting upgraded chairs upgraded. Prices have not been pushed sky high so if you want value and want quality skiing this is the place that does not break the bank.

Excellent conditions. They were actually making snow all day on March 19th which is way past the date most ski areas cease their snowmaking. The new(er) triple lift is a big improvement over the old center pole double. Lifties were friendly and helpful. Great location near the Northway exit 18. They say that the old Northwest chair will also be replaced. All good.

Disappointed. Kids tubed here for a birthday party a few years ago and it was great. Came again and paid for 2 hours of tubing. Managed 4 rides in 2 hours. Terrible job managing lines and moving people along.

Heard a few people complaining they had paid and no tubes were available.

4 lanes for tubing on the big hill and people are constantly coming down 1 and 2 at a time.

30 bucks to stand in line is not a great deal.

Great place to grab drinks and go skiing or riding. If skiing is not your thing, try tubing. Always a good time. Lift can be slow sometimes, but isn't that at every ski resort? I'm just impatient. Bar staff was great, all the beers I enjoy were on tap. They were crowded but I still was served rather quickly. Can't wait to try the nachos, they look amazingly delicious.

This is a conveniently located ski resort that fails to live up to its potential and therefore of interest only to the local crowd. Those in the immediate Capital District have far better options in the Berkshires and those heading to Gore, Whiteface, and resorts in Vermont would offer their patronage only if prices were substantially reduced.

My family and I always choose to visit West Mountain. My family and I actually live closer to Killington, although prefer West Mountain since is is more family friendly, and less busy. The staff at the tubing park, and mountain are family friendly, and help make the experience a positive one everytime.

Pricing is fair, and the resort seems to be investing quite a bit of money into itself every year.

I would definitely recommend this resort if you have not tried it!

Love West Mountain! Great fun for families and skiers of all levels! I really liked having the night skiing option, the trails are all lit perfectly. The lodge is great and the food is awesome! I would totally recommend West Mountain to my family and friends.

I want this place to succeed, but it is poorly run by an obnoxious hothead who has a long history of failed endeavors. The race program produces no one without the last name Montgomery, the terrain is just OK, and the marginal latitude leaves this place more often muddy than snowy.

Yes, it's fine for your kid's high school ski club, but beyond that, head north if you're any kind of a real ski or board enthusiast. Or if you have young kids, go to Willard. Better beginner programs, much cheaper and much better management.

Great day at West Mountain. Despite winter not being great this year conditions were quite good. Trails were nicely groomed and there were no lines. In afternoon crowd picked up as students arrived. Not a large mountain but enough for an enjoyable day. They have night skiing as well.

This review comes with a significant caveat: we are NOT skiers. I am much more of a faller. This family visit was for tubing only. Our first visit to West Mountain was really a mixed bag. There seems to be a lot of potential there, but they have a ways to go, particularly in terms of personnel and customer service.
The good: The tubing area itself is small, but nice. There are 6 short runs and four longer runs. There are no tandem or family tubes, but you can tether single tubes together to form a "train" on the short runs. The exit areas at the ends of the runs are wide, open and easy to safely transverse before the next tubers come barreling down at you. The "magic carpet" lift is also very convenient and easy to use. My four year old was a bit nervous about both the lift and the runs at first, but quickly fell in love with the entire experience. When we first arrived at just after 10, the lines moved quickly and there was little to no wait for any of the runs. There's also a really nice little fire pit area with Adirondack chairs right outside the lodge where you can relax and warm up. It's almost custom made for selfies.
The bad: As the day went on, the tubing area got ridiculously crowded. They warn you on the website that they can restrict ticket sales if there are too many tubers. With that warning out there, they should absolutely enforce it. By noon, the lines were ridiculous. We ended up waiting in line at the top runs for over 20 minutes for our final ride; quite a time commitment on a two-hour lift ticket. Some children were running amok with absolutely no adult supervision. Some were brazenly cutting the lift line right in front of staff with no consequences. The lodge itself is also bad. The food is REALLY bad, the facilities are bad, and the bathrooms are frat-house levels of disgusting. Parking is also a mess. All the marked-off driving lanes are wide enough for one car, but there is no indication of direction of travel, and I saw a number of cars meeting in the middle of an aisle, requiring one of them to back all the way down to an intersection. Someone injured herself badly enough while we there that an ambulance was required, and it took the EMTs considerable time and effort to navigate to the lodge to begin treatment. It was so crowded that by the time we left that people were just parking on Route 58.
The dangerously irresponsible: Remember the children running amok? There was one particular child who was particularly out of control. There is a small walkway, then a turn on a slight hill walking to the short runs after exiting the lift. This boy jumped into his tube at the top of the walkway, slid down the hill, flattened my four year old, crashed through the retention barrier and luckily settled on to the far left lane as he went down the rest of the way, his parents nowhere in sight. This happened directly in front of the bearded young man monitoring this area. I asked him what he was going to do and he said, "can't do anything now, man. He's gone." Apparently management never trained staff how to use the radios they carry, or the common sense to realize that with only one way up the hill, it'd be pretty easy to stop him. At the bottom of the hill, I relayed the story to the supervisor who was checking lift ticket times. The response was, "Wow, that sucks. What time does your pass say?" Really?
I've heard that this place has come under new management over the past few years and they've pumped a lot of money back into the facility in an effort to rehabilitate a ski center that had really fallen into disrepair. I applaud their efforts and wish them well, but as long as the slopes are the Wild West, I won't be bringing my family back. I'd rather drive a little further and pay a little more for the better quality, customer service, and most importantly, safety of the larger centers slightly north.

For 30 years I have been skiing and snowboarding here. Awesome mountain in our back yard. I love all the improvements the new ownership is doing. I look forward to the next 30 years at West with my growing family.

So we live an 1:30 away and we called when we were about 45min away to make sure that the tubing part was going to be open and we were told "yes from 10 to 6" But wen we arrived they had signs up saying that tubing was closed till 3 pm and we got there around 12:15. Now I have a disappointed kid that I promised would go tubing and an extreme waste of gas and time.

West Mountain Ski resort is a beautiful resort and a great place to bring your family and friends. I would 100% recommend picking a weekend to come up and go skiing/snowboarding. You won t be disappointed.

Very disappointed with the tubing experience. We went tubing with my brother, his 6 yr and 2 yr old, and my mother. After we bought our tickets we went to get our tubes and worker immediately starting giving us an attitude bc we had a toddler with us. The website says any age can ride and they sold a ticket to her. He continued ranting about the conditions and that he told the staff at the window no more 2 person tubes. I understand they have to look out for safety but the nasty attitude was not necessary when we had no idea it was an issue. He said my brother could not ride with the 2 yr old and that I had to ride with her bc the more weight goes faster. That was fine but then we saw a guy double my brothers size riding with a child who appeared to be 6 or 7 yrs old. Also you are not told until after you pay that the 2 person tubes can only go down the small slide. When we got up the mountain you have to walk down a steep hill that was a sheet of ice. My mother starting falling and luckily my brother was able to catch her. My mom only went down the hill one time bc we did not want her to get injured. A lot of kids and adults were falling down the hill. Just a bad set up. I have been tubing at other mountains and the tubing lift brings you to the top of the slides so if it icy it is not an issue. They advertised a winter fest but it only included a band and face painting for kids. I asked a couple employees what other activities they had and was told there was no other activities. I am giving it 2 stars bc they did give my mom her money back bc she couldn t ride.

Good mountain with a variety of trails for different skill sets. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. One of the most notable examples of this is how attentive the staff members are for young kids getting on the lift. Anticipating that they may need the lift slowed down so they're comfortable getting on. The bunny hill is a bit chaotic and my young kids felt it was "too steep". I don't know that I agree with that but this is their 4th bunny hill experience and they all agreed. The COVID care is good. Lots of sanitizer and places to social distance. Didn't eat so can't speak to the food. We did have a bloody mary at the upstairs bar and it was phenomenal (if you like spicy). The two things that keep it from a 5-star rating are the availablity of staff. They seem short staffed (especially outside) so the lift line can get chaotic. Lastly, the tubing is a mess. There's no organization, they overbook the timeslots and there's a lot of waiting!!! It really felt like a rip-off based on the cost. By the time you get to the top, wait in line and ride, you really only get to ride 4-5 runs in the 2-hour block which is just unacceptable.
