Thanksgiving feast was unreal. So much food, beautiful decorations.
Thanksgiving feast was unreal. So much food, beautiful decorations.
Horribly horribly overpriced and room was not what was advertised by a long shot. Had to staunchly complain to switch to a room that at least had a bathtub since it is needed for health issues. Extremely disappointed
Excellent views of the coast, beautiful historic hotel. The conference rooms are large and comfortable and the catering is fantastic.
The hotel is beautiful. The location is beautiful. The staff is courteous and helpful. Overall a great stay.
What a lovely grand hotel. Spent the weekend there. Needs to improve in some areas. The check in person was not very helpful, she gave us our room keys and that was it! She was unkempt . No explanation of what the hotel has to offer at over $400 per night. We found out that there were 2 pools, restaurants, tennis court and gym by asking the next day when we needed to find the gym. Really need a better check in process, they were not even crowded. They have turn down service by request only. I was wondering why it was not being done. At the other high end Marriotts I did not need to ask. It says free parking on the website but they need to put up a sign that informs you there is a charge for valet. Saw the charge on my bill and questioned it. I did use the valet but they did not know that at check out. I questioned the charges and they took it off. I would have gladly paid it and used the service if they informed me in advance.
In the morning at 7:30 am ( Saturday) housekeeping roll out their carts and talk to each other directly out side our room for over 20 minutes, loudly. That afternoon 4 carts are in the hall outside our room again and they are just outside talking again. Forget taking an afternoon nap.
On the brighter side the restaurants, lounges and grounds are beautiful. The doorman was spot on and always very cheerfu and helpful. They have a van that will take you and your party into town and pick you up. They were very accomendating. Both those employees were a delight.
A great getaway! Beautiful hotel and grounds. Very convenient to downtown Portsmouth. Service at the Spa was excellent. Ate lunch outside at Latitudes and it was great. My wife's chicken was undercooked and they took her whole meal off the check. Breakfast in Salt was AMAZING. Loved the Blueberry popovers!
We went to the restaurant. We love their fine food and we had excellent service.
Stunning! Was so surprised that dogs were permitted!
Beautiful views from hotel. Wonder food, very relaxing.
Classic hotel, comfortable. Great bar and views. Sit on the veranda and watch the afternoon pass. Outside pool is nice with lunch served.
The 2 bed rooms smelled really bad! Sheets had stains on them! The worst part was finding a blood stain on the pillow case!! GROSS! Staff was not very kind. Very disappointed on this! The pool was great and the hot tub!
The rooms are always clean with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms (the shower has really nice pressure). The views from the rooms are beautiful overlooking the sea. This is one of my favorite places to stay. I had an enjoyable experience at the spa with a hot stone massage by Scott. He asked me questions beforehand to provide the right amount of pressure to make sure I was comfortable. The locker rooms had a jacuzzi, sauna, and showers, and the front entrance room had hot tea and water which was relaxing after my massage. Breakfast buffet has a nice spread with a few dishes outside of the norm. It was much fresher than your typical breakfast buffet. Expensive food, but good.
We stopped to have the Lobster Benedict. We were a few minutes late and the breakfast kitchen was closing... but they were gracious and cooked it up for us anyway. Delicious.
The staff made you feel right at home the rooms were extremely clean. The food was amazing and the bar was pretty cool. Great views and there is a spa for your complete relaxation. It was a my bday and I had left out of my room to come and surprised by a bottle of champagne and a cupcake. I was overwhelmed with joy and i really appreciate the staff and there hard work. Make sure you catch the sunset it s to die for.
Absolutely Gorgeous Resort, perfect place to get plenty of Rest and Relaxation!
Old, lots of history, very laid back atmosphere. Beautiful views.
Could be a five but few things lowered my rating. No direct sea front access, the room air conditioning unit I was not able to fully silence at night and the piano in the bar sounded out of tune. They also gave me the bad look when I wanted to play even though the rooms are not really close. I guess the air conditioning noise is what you are supposed to listen at night
I went to restaurant week. The food was very good and the service was incredible. I would recommend it to all
Pleasant, historical property that has had some recent refurbishment. Interesting charm, but less modern and comfortable than other resorts.
Loved Wentworth by the Sea! Wish Salt was open for lunch or a later breakfast/brunch. (which on the website it shows breakfast, lunch and dinner) a little disappointed.
I went for a family meeting luncheon. The setting for the hotel is beautiful and the buffet lunch we had was delicious! The wait staff were friendly and helpful.
We stayed only one night but would loved to have stayed longer. The restoration of this historic structure is impeccable, the grounds are beautiful, the service was perfect and the location is majestic. It truly deserves five stars. I can't wait to go back!
Loved both of my restaurant week visits. The food is scrumptious. My mom was amazed by the soup and excited by the Virgin drink they created for her. The service was great. The atmosphere is what I consider mildly posh - has a rich, yet comfortable feel with semi-formal service that is also very connected and comfortable. The only thing I would like to see them change is adding a restroom closer to the restaurant itself. We had to walk through the hotel lobby and down a couple of halls for access. This was a bit difficult for my 78 year old mom with Parkinson's.
We, 10 long time friends, came for Brunch in a surprise celebration of another's 80th birthday.
Service was SUPERB.
The moment your glass was near empty, it was refilled without asking.
When you went back for more food, your empty plate, used utensils and napkin were removed and replaced with new, again without asking.
The Brunch selections were
OUTSTANDING.
They included numerous and varied Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner items, including unusual, attractive desserts.
Especially good were the salmon, oysters, salads, and roasted vegetables.
We certainly will tell our other friends of our memorable time at your attractive venue with the great views of the surrounding waterfront.
VERY enjoyable!

TWO FULL SEPARATE BATHROOMS SUITES! A romantic rendezvous here makes! Pretty and comfortable are their furnishing! Soothing are the paintings surrounded by pewter, white, and blue coloring! Wonderful staff! Plus, within this property, we have loved our breakfasts at SALT; taken beautiful nature hikes; dipped into their pool; sipped tea while sitting out on their front porch; and, received fabulous spa treatments! Refreshed and rejuvenated we are after our stay here every year!
Easter brunch was phenomenal. Definitely worth the price.
One of the nicest properties in the Opal collection. Historic Grand Hotel completely updated and right on the water
Great spot for a visit with an old school decor to get that New England vibe.
Wonderful property. The new renovation is gorgeous, Contemporary, but still true to the classic New England beauty of this historic hotel. Staff and menu at Salt is wonderful and we are already looking forward to our next visit layer this year.
Had dinner with friends for restaurant week and was so good! Incredible, fast service and a delicious menu.
Wonderful hotel. The outdoor hot tub is amazing, staff is amicable and helpful, and a short drive to downtown Portsmouth.
Mother's Day Brunch was beautiful. We loved all the great choices, even gluten free desserts! The mimosa's were wonderful also. We were lucky to be by the windows, if you go try and ask for window seating instead of inside the ballroom. Much nicer. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Attended a wedding here. Excellent food, beautiful grounds, great service.
Spectacular resort. Spectacular location. And spectacular food and service.
Amazing place, great views and vibes. Would deff. Go again
A stunning property for any event. Every detail was fabulous. Staff were extremely professional and displayed 5 star service. I would happily return.
We attended the Thanksgiving Brunch event. Reservation process was easy and once we arrived on location, obviously scheduled appropriately as no one was waiting. The cuisine selection was excellent and quality of food likewise. The table attendants were very attentive. The perception was that they were not the regular wait staff, yet eager to please and able to ask questions of the correct person(s).
I plan to return next year again.
Thank you, Party of 8 at Table 44.
Toured it as a potential wedding venue. It's beautiful even in the winter. Very expensive though, but you can see why. Everyone is very friendly, the facilities are clean, and there's almost not a bad view.
My work had our annual holiday party at the Wentworth by the Sea this year for the first time. The ballroom was gorgeous as were the lobby, hallways, and everything else I saw. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious.
The restaurant was fantastic!
Our server was terrific.
Beautiful refurbished hotel with plenty of chairs around the hotel to take in the views. awesome indoor pool. easily accessible rooms. plenty of free parking around hotel. comfortable beds.
This review is for Salt Restaurant only- My family and I met there for lunch for Father's day and I must be fair in prefacing this review with the fact that the restaurant had only been open for 2 weeks. The service was terrible. The waitress was very good, and she apologized for the fact that one of our meals came out about 15-20 minutes later that the others. She also told us that the manager would come to us and apologize as well, which never happened. We never had our water glasses refilled despite the fact that there were several young staff hanging out in the dining room. THAT was inexcusable!
Also, it has been my experience that when service is this terrible, there is some little compensation made for the experience. ( a gratuitous dessert for instance)- I won't be going back again soon, unless someone else reports having had a better experience. Jan Duston
Incredible,Beautiful Spot ,Awesome Victorian Hotel....a Must see!!
Wedding reception was held here. Very nice hotel. I was the brother of the bride, in the bridal party. I'm kind of sure that this wedding wasn't cheap but I felt as though the quality of service received might have been. The wait staff took my girlfriend's toasting glass, wine glass, and her drink (which was soda) away from her place setting at the table. The staff stated she was underage and didn't believe that she was drinking soda. She is 31. A very unprofessional act and poor judgment on behalf of the waitress. I suggest that the food service management invest is some quality employee training to avoid things like this going down the road.
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love Marriott. They are always so accommodating. I unfortunately didnt have the pleasure of staying the night at this beautiful hotel yet. We went for the Submarine Birthday Ball. Its location was absolutely beautiful. The service was amazing and from what I saw of the place, it was beautiful and clean. The staff were exceptional and polite. I can't wait to book a weekend trip here.
Visited for a potential wedding venue location. Beautiful location on water, nice coordinator, ballrooms pretty, information helpful
Great place to get married! They really go above and beyond for you.
Nice place to get married. They put the bar outside of the reception hall which split the wedding up too much because the drinks were small. Spent half the time in line for a drink
We went up to the Wentworth by the sea for their annual holiday celebration a few day's ago so I thought I would do a review. From the moment we entered the hotel to the day we checked out all was good. The front desk/front door staff and even the managers Jo hanna ? and Alex ? welcomed us. Our room was impeccable with awesome views, the pool and jacuzzis where relaxing and we especially enjoyed the jacuzzi outside with soft background music so we could still hold a conversation (I was with my Daughter and Grandaughter). The atmosphere inside was so tastefully done we just hung out in front of the fireplace relaxing .The free parking and free wi fi where just a plus . All and all I would give the Wentworth a 5 star review.
We stayed at the Wentworth for our Mini Moon and Johanna made us feel so special!!! She overheard us talking about our recent wedding and had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries sent to our suite. It made us feel like a bride and groom all over again! We will come back, just because of that! Staff here was incredible, including Kent at the front desk!
The spa was a pleasant experience and the breakfast had quality food. The room was nice. Ans the location is near many things.
Classic and classy. Great food and rooms, friendly and fast service.
We visited for the brunch, which was great. The brunch buffet included oysters, lox, shrimp, cold cuts, excellent cheeses, prime rib, and a bunch of other choices including regular breakfast fare. The endless mimosas were never empty due to the very attentive waitstaff. It's a good choice for a weekend brunch.
The main property was very nice and the staff were courteous. The room itself was clean and to the standards which we expected. The Salts restaurant was disappointing overall and something my wife ate caused her to be I'll. I suspect if we went on a sunny weekend and ate elsewhere it would be a fine experience.
I found this to be a well-staffed and comfortable place. Good food in the hotel's restaurant and a warm fire in the lobby makes the place a wonderful place to visit
Great atmosphere, beautiful locale. Service attentive and professional.
Room was very nice with a great view. Had lunch and dinner there: everything was tremendous except all 3 meat dishes I sampled were bland and dry. Awesome bar selection
The place is the place to go and find good rest and fine food.the staff is exceptional go and you will enjoy.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. And tons to do nearby!
I don t generally leave reviews. But, as a mgmt consultant I felt compelled to share my experience. The location, amenities, rooms (we stayed in the marina suites), food quality, and views/setting have the makings of a 5 star resort. It s truly a wonderful property. Just beautiful. BUT, there is a missing piece that runs through the operation and severely impacts the guest experience... As a broad generalization, the staff don t care, lack training and are too policy driven (as opposed to customer driven). The inconsistent level of service showcased itself around every corner. There were a few shining stars, don t get me wrong. Our bellman lugged bag after bag down the long stairway to the pool level suites with a smile on his face the whole time. Our waitress at latitudes went all the way up to SALT to get us something off their menu. The housekeeping staff rushed down when our fridge wasn t working (and we need for allergy issues with kids). The mgmt was very accommodating when we had some issues and bent over backwards in an effort to resolve. But, consistently we had and observed experiences that could/should not have happened as a result of poor service. How does an employee walk out of a public restroom, while I m walking in, and leave garbage on the floors and counters? If he really cared he d have straightened up when he saw the mess. How does a bartender act so rude that a couple came over to us at dinner and complimented us for our patience as they observed the entire encounter? How does a dinner take ~2.5 hrs and they forget to bring the entire appetizer course? How does housekeeping leave dirty dishes in the dishwasher from the prior room occupant? There are many more examples.... The bottom line is this operation needs a mgmt and culture overhaul and if they get the right leadership in place, this can be a 5 star experience. Until then, expect inconsistency in a beautiful setting.
Pricey but expected for the location and meal. Needed to have our seats moved due to glass wall between the lobby and restaurant. As people came into the lobby, some of them would walk over to the glass wall to look into the restaurant. Very awkward having someone 2 feet away peering at you.
Nice property, great on site dining at Salt. Beautiful location.
I went to Salt for the breakfast buffet on a Saturday morning. The selection was fantastic, from the build your own omelet bar to the pastries and fruit to the waffles, too much to mention. The staff was super attentive and nice. I have been here before and will continue to, every time I am in the Rye, NH area.
We recently spent a weekend at this beautiful hotel. We have been coming her for quite a few years, but have not been in the past four since the renovation. We were very excited to be coming back to this beautiful place. Checked in later in the day and headed out to dinner. Champange was suppose to be in our room as part of the package, it was not. In the am we went down stairs to get a coffee which use to be set up in the lobby and was also free to the guests. It is now behind the front desk and has a $3.00 charge that goes with it. I am thinking my pricey hotel stay could at least cover the cost of the coffee.
Buffet in the morning was ok but the area where you stand to get an omelet is also the pathway for the servers to go in and out of the kitchen, very bad set up, people bumping into each other with hot food and beverages.
With our package we received one dinner per stay, which we always looked forward to in the past. It an elegant space with fine dining. Unfortunately that was not the case. The dining room was not full at all and the four couples who were there were placed on top of each other in a small area, when asked why we were told they was only one waitress. Dinner was ordered and we were waiting for our food when the waitress came over and said they were out of one of the main dishes (Lobster). Very disappointing as we were so looking forward to it. One of the other dinners was made incorrectly and then brought back cold and the steak was so rare my friend could not eat it. All an all it was by far very disappointing. But our waitress was so sweet trying to apologize for all the mishaps.
The following morning at breakfast same thing chaotic but there were only a few people in the dining room. When we asked to sit father away from everyone we were told we could not because those tables were set up for lunch!! It was 9:30 in the am on a Monday morning how busy could lunch get and better yet how long would it take to reset a table after we left.
It was a very, very pricy disappointing weekend I expect so much better from this caliber of a hotel!!
Not likely to return any time soon :(
The sea was amazing and the staff was so nice. I loved the time.
This is a first class resort with first class service and first class amenities. The staff are as accommodating as any I have ever met and they put out a very diverse spread for lunch. I highly recommend spending some time here!
Just checked in for an anniversary get away trip. The room is beautiful and spacious and they had someone deliver strawberries and chocolates to our room. The staff here are incredible and have made us feel right at home.
Great place for marriage. Turret rooms are great and really special for my bride to get ready.
Dog nose prints all over the windows.
Mold on the bathroom shower curtains.
Way over priced for what you get.
Historic hotel that reminds us of the Hotel Del Coronado. Very well maintained.
What a beautiful place , was here for work but the inside is ABSOLUTELY spectacular
My wife and I have been to the Bubbles and Jazz Sunday Brunch 4 times over the past three years. Three years ago it was amazing, everything was perfect: food, Champagne, service and Jazz. Each time everything was just a little less great. Today our experience was not worth the $100 for the two of us, built in service fee of 20% and 9% tax not only on the food, but also the service fee! We had a late reservation, not our choice, and were seated around 1:40 - 1:45. The live jazz ended 10 minutes after we arrived, and no music was played after that. Just the sound of people eating. Until this trip they served Champagne, a lower end Moet, but great. Today, a low end Prosecco. Today the service was okay at best, nice people, but scarce: lots of empty glasses, long wait for bill and again for credit card slip. Interest was on cleanup. The food selection was good, but smaller than we've ever seen before. The desserts were devastated, there were a few different ones left, but fewer than when we arrived and even then there were empty plates.
It seems they shouldn't be seating people after 1:00 or so. If we ever go again it will be much earlier than even 1:00. When the reservation was made the earliest time they had was 1:30, yet when we arrived many tables were empty.
Awesome location!! Staff was very nice!! Food and drinks were Great too!! Nice views and enjoyed a nice walk around the area!!
It is a great location(better if you have a harbour facing room), very close to towns like Portsmouth and Kittery. The hotel staff is helpful and prompt. We tried the buffet breakfast which was really good. They have a tennis court and spa in the facility. I didn't get a chance to but there are trails for biking/running close by.
