While I appreciate the animals are there to perform you at least expect to be able to see them even if they are asleep etc, bern 3 times now and have never seen a lion or sun bear very hard to explain this to kids who think they will see these animals.

The zoo keeper in the insect house was having a badbeard day. My excited 8year old trying to show his mum a tarantula accidently tapped on the glass while pointing. Next minute Mr badbeard day was out telling him off! Then no sooner had we walked around the corner to stop for a packet of chippies a random rooster stole a chip out of Mr 8's hand. Guess who turned up? Mr BadBeard, "don't feed the Chickens! bro it was my boys 8th birthday. It was his wish to go to the zoo, he was super excited until captain BadBeard turned into constable BadBeard giving out verbal tickets to children trying to have fun. That one moment spoiled the day for all of us as you didn't even have the patience to see it was one chip! One! Funny you heard that one tap though, one! Maybe you should be looking after chimps.

The animals are well cared for in good enclosures, but some animals are not meant for the Wellington climate. That aside, the keepers know their stuff and offer talks every hour every day about the animals (whilst also feeding them). The animals seem happy and active, and as any good zoo this is a special place

Good variety. Excellent place to bring the family for a day out. Admissions prices are reasonable for this type of attraction. Staff is super helpful. The park wasn t congested when we went despite it being a day of exceptionally nice weather for Wellington. If you are visiting Wellington this is definitely one place that should be on your list.

Definitely worth a visit. It's a good time and well designed but there are definitely better Zoos that have more space for the animals. Seems like a great place for kids though, lots of great interaction for them. Parking is a bit of a nightmare though so I recommend busing or going early.

A great little zoo. Set out really well so that you flow through it without feeling forced. Exhibits are well presented so that you can see pretty much everything that is going on. Animals seem happy (not that I am any judge really). The vet surgery is a nice touch although I've yet to set it working. Nice mix of local, rescued and exotic.

When my grandfather asked if I wanted to go to wellington zoo for the day I was reluctant to go as I have been many times before and it is always the same. I went anyway and was delighted to see that they have extended and changed many things. For example the chimpanzee play area is now almost triple the size and it is very amusing to see them play with each other, so cute. I was so inspired by the keepers talks that I am now very keen to volunteer as a chimp keeper. I absolutely loved my experience and would definitly recommend for tourists and locals

Don't get me wrong, the Zoo is good but you need to plan your timing carefully. First thing in the morning didn't seem to work out. Most the main attractions (being lions, bears etc) were no where to be seen and after talking with someone about it, it seems the afternoon is better. Could just be the day I was there but just plan ahead is all i'm saying.

I have been here and it is a beautiful place to go. Full of mysteries which keeps the zoo an interesting place to be.
You can not do it in a day. You need a two to three days to capture all of the zoo's beauty but it is so worth it

Not a zoo, really. Beautiful, native, out of control bush everywhere but is this what a zoo would aspire to exhibit? All set displays are old and uninteresting. A very costly family outing to a place that lost its way and does not seem to be managed that well at all.

Saw almost every animal except the tiger and kiwi this time.. And they all appeared happy and looked after.. Bloody tourists scared off the kiwi by being loud and using lights... Tisk tisk
