Brilliant day out for the whole family, well worth...
Brilliant day out for the whole family, well worth the entry price.
Brilliant day out for the whole family, well worth the entry price.
Awesome.. the lema experiance was incredible couldnt have wished for more. Thank to tge wonderful staff.
Huge price to see bored caged animals.
I know why they do it, but it's sad it's come to this.
Great family activity, very easy to get there. Would recommend as a great way to spend a half day.
Good place to visit. They separate section for there own animals.
I am origanilly from South Africa and moved her last january and haden't been to a zoo in 2 years let alone see a kiwi but when I visited the wellington zoo I got to see a real life kiwi it was an experience I will never forget, if you want to see them u have to stand really still and not make a noise or show any light because they will get scared their incloser is quite dark so u cant take a photo but its worth it I had the pleasure of seeing 2 beautiful kiwis and love wellingto and wellington zoo
Very average the guy at front desk needs to learn some customer service very rude guy and very arrogant when asked questions surely they have better ppl to front and great customers
Love it, will go back next time we visit Wellington.
Great day out - young ones might need a help on all the hills though.
Such fun going with my grown up animal loving daughter
. Many improvements since I was last there in 1998.. awesome
Wonderful experience with great staff. What an awesome place to spend the day.
Average zoo but Auckland is a lot better as expected.
Still had a great time.
Never gets old.
Zoo is always great. Rain kept a few of the big animals inside but cant blame them. The food on sale is disappointing and way over priced, $7 for a deflated, burnt sausage roll that looked to have been left from the day before.
Nice walk round some up hill bits. Animals put on a show for us. Sunbear talk was worth the wait.
Possibly a great place but has limited access for those with disabilities. Would have loved to have seen the animals but hills are too steep for my asthma. Staff were very nice and others with me seemed to have enjoyed it.
A most enjoyable experience for the family. Enjoyed getting to see the giraffes and monkeys, as well as the grassland cats. A bit disappointed I missed lions, tigers and bears, but that was probably more to do with the time of day it was by the time we got to them (3-4 in the arvo).
All-in-all, had a very fun time. Hope to do it again, soon.
Great day out for adults and kids alike! Relatively decent exhibits with a variety of attractions to appeal to most animal lovers. Cafe offers a good selection of food on the menu board and the coffee is ok! Zoo Crew membership holders such as my wife, son and myself get discounts in the cafe which is always nice. FYI ... I highly recommend the Zoo Crew membership as it is good entertainment for the kids during weekends and holidays and if cost is a factor to you, far cheaper option at a one off expense with the freedom to visit at your leisure all year! There are a number of play area's for the children within the grounds and another outside near the entrance with ample parking nearby ...!
Beautiful zoo set amongst trees. Very natural feeling. Nice enclosures for the animals. Good way to spend half a day
I love Wellington Zoo. The have lots of interactive spaces which is awesome
Great for kids although there are some hills to get the whole way around so if your kids are young <2 and struggle with walking for an hour then I would suggest a pram. It always feels a bit warmer here than it is at home so I d say pack a hat rather than an extra jersey if you are looking to keep warm. Heaps of fun things for 2-10 year olds to play on but I would say that older kids wouldn t enjoy it that much.
Quaint, if a bit small, but enough to keep the kids (and the big kids!) entertained.
I was lucky enough to be given a ticket for the Red Panda close encounter for my birthday. I highly recommend it if you get the chance. I will never forget the feeling of Sundars paw on my hand as he ate his pear and kumera. If you value experiences over objects, this is a priceless memory. They are very calm, gentle and super cute. Thanks to Zach our host as well.
Easily one of the nicest Zoos I've been to.
They genuinely seem to care about the animals and most importantly, the impact we all have on these beautiful creatures.
I ended up having a team day here which was a very well run day and even included a chance to feed the giraffes!... An amazing experience.
Highly recommend the place!
Great place for Adults family and kids..has great cafe and yummy food
Small zoo but really nice to walk around and very friendly staff
Loved the exhibits. Ironically, seeing wild ducklings hop into the capuchin exhibit was a major highlight. The capybaras were delightfully snooty as always.
As far as zoo's go, it's alright. Pretty solid. Not jaw dropping
An ok zoo parking is slim so get there early and be prepared for some Hill walking worth a visit though.
Good place for a visit and a good place to take children with some good exhibits for kids. Found it a bit similar to Singapore Zoo. Not as many animals or as wide a variety but still enjoyable and worth a visit
Yeah, as far as zoo's go it's pretty good. Some interesting spins including the vet clinic with glass walls and intercom to talk to the vet. There's even operating rooms, not sure if they are ever in use during opening hours.
Go between 12 & 2 as that's when most of the feeding times are.
Staff helpfull overseas seniors get discount
Easy to walk around to find different animals etc
Come here frequently. Always a great place to visit.
Hardly any animals to see as compared to last time we went.
Wellington zoo is a great place for both kids and adults. There are various talks and feeding activity which is fun as well as informative. You can even choose one of the up close programs to get close to a cheetah or lion, if you fancy it. Great place for a family picnic the whole day or a quick trip for couple of hours. It is surely one of the best little zoo in the world.
Nice zoo... Well maintained... But area is quite small for so many animals... Just that tiger n loin never seem happy
Lovely clean interesting walk amongst trees and animals
Wonderful enclosures and layout, and despite the large summer crowds, our family never felt overwhelmed or harried.
Amazing zoo! I did the Red Panda and Lemur encounter and it's something I'll remember for the rest of my life. Excellent facility and staff
Had lot of expectations after seeing Auckland zoo .. few animals were missing but still good for family time
Fantastic. The Zoo is amazing. Such a great walk around with lots of things for all ages, especially kids.
A very cool Zoo. We have been a number of times. Always keen to go when we visit Wellington
IT WAS AMAZING I LOVED IT I WANT TO GO THEIR EVERY DAY!
What a lovely Zoo. Nestled in the great New Zealand greenery is a well thought out series of paths taking you through various native animals as well as animals from around the world. Entry is very reasonably priced, but you can upgrade your one off visit to a yearly pass and become a zoo crew member for about two thirds the price of another ticket, a very good deal.
The Zoo offers multiple 'encounters' that can be booked for an additional cost, that allow you to get up close and personal with some of the animals that they have on offer, feeding Meerkats of the Giraffes, or possibly meeting the elusive red pandas. However, included with the standard entry fee, in the 'Our Neighbors' section all visitors get the opportunity to be extremely close to some of Australia's native animals, there are friendly Emus and Wallabies that are not fenced in and you are walking through their enclosure. If you are brave enough and if the animals think you are friendly or worthy enough, then you are able to stroke them (I did).
Bring a bottle of water with you and wear sunscreen as the space between drinking fountains is quite large and the Wellington sun can be unforgiving.
I've signed up for my zoo crew membership and will be back there soon, a great way to spend a day or just an afternoon, very child friendly, though the Cafes do seem to shut rather early so bear that in mind when you plan your visit. Though the dairy across the road has a wonderful selection of Ice creams.
My partner and I went to a Red Panda Encounter, where we got to enter the enclosure with a zoo guide and interact with the red panda on his terms.
Unfortunately one of the two pandas weren't keen on coming down, however the other one was very enthusiastic. I've never seen one move so fast.
He walked over our laps, and ate treats out of our hands. The guide took photos for us so we could be in them. She also told us various info about the red panda, and answered any questions.
All in all, it was awesome, and I'm very glad we did it. We have also done the lemur encounter, which I strongly recommend, though be aware they can be VERY loud.
The zoo itself is pretty good, though it is quite hilly. One of my favourite animals there is the caracal, though the meerkats and otters are always fun.
Such an amazing place. You definitely need to plan a whole day with a picnic. They staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Lots of good information on all the animals
Best small Zoo in the world! Love the layout and facilities. Good eating options too. Well worth a visit!
Some animal were missing during rainy day. Need to walk for 700m for bus to Wellington downtown
We had a brilliant time, throughly enjoyed ourselves.
Wellington Zoo is a great zoo and very close to the city. At the top of the zoo, you can see great views of the surrounding areas as well as the great selection of animals in the zoo. I recently was part of a school group who went to the zoo for a school trip which included a night at the zoo along with a behind the scenes tour which was very good. Overall Recommend.
On Feb 23, the zoo euthanized 4 healthy baboons because you could not provide an environment stimulating enough to keep them peaceful and happy with each other. Several times the zoo reiterated how this was the humane solution. Funnily enough, 'humane' is a word pulled out that nearly every time it is used, 'cruel' would fit really well. What a shame a zoo is: just a jail full of the innocent, with capital punishment to fall back on.So humane.
I got to feed a giraffe! Lots of gorgeous animals. Great zoo
I love this place. My family and especially my grandson had a terrific time there. And I managed to capture a lot of pictures.
Love this place. However the day we went was $2 day and it was so so busy. But overwhelming but still had fun.
Best time to go is definitely when the weather's bad and most sane people are indoors!
Good small-mid size zoo. Still have some few exotic animals
Well designed and good flow. Missed the lion and tiger. My 13 year old opined that they may be sleeping.
Lovely spot! Be prepared for some steep inclines on the walk through.
Excellent zoo. Plenty of well cared for animals, lots of awesome encounters, heaps of volunteers and keeper talks, and several 'free roaming' animals for close encounters as well.
There's a half decent cafe at the entrance to grab a coffee and/or cake to wander around with too.
I was in a lower leg cast while visiting and relied on a knee scooter to help me get around. There was a $25 door charge for a single adult. The staff member who served me was helpful and gave me a map with gradients on as well as the regular map. I was in a hurry, it was windy, and crowded, so I didn't look at the map much. The zoo is laid out on a hillside so is quite steep in places. But every attraction is well presented, so even though I didn't see many animals (because it was a cold day) I enjoyed my time and will come back on a warmer day when I'm out of this cast.
This place is awesome, I love a good zoo and this one was fantastic
It was a good experience. I went there on a open day. The Wellington Zoo team looks like really worried about the animals health and welfare, what is impressive.
