Recreating the scaffolding used in the largest mass execution in history is not art. While other states are taking down monuments to our racist brutal history your center decided to celebrate Minnesota's racism and genocide without so much as consulting with the very people this affects. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

The Walker is one of the Big 5 galleries in this country but it is surprisingly inviting and rarely has it felt like a stuffy or uptight environment. They are always displaying amazing works of art by well-known masters and across the street is the equally impressive sculpture garden.

Do it. Get of you fat butt and go visit.

It's modern art. The best collection in MN but still hit or miss. If you go, go when an exhibit that you are interested in is showing or you may be bored to tears. The expansion is nice - it is silly that is doesn't connect to the existing exhibit space above the first floor. They should have kept the old Guthrie as a performance space and built their parking garage around/behind/underneath it. The best parts of Walker are the sculpture garden (newly remodeled) and the gift shop. I have been to 2 weddings on the outdoor terrace. Both weddings were hot and there was no shade. The area was 5-10 degrees hotter than ambient temp due to the concrete. The wedding party had to wear sunglasses during the ceremony and the grandmother of the groom had to be inside. At the second wedding one of the Walker's catering employees stole the wedding cards and phones, cc, and cash from the wedding party storage room.

My friends and I were visiting Minneapolis for a weekend and i ran across Walker Art Center while searching for something fun to do and it looked interesting. It definitely delivered! It was very interesting indeed. A little weird, and I loved it.

A walk to the Walker Art Museum from the Downtown skywalks, exit through the convention center, stroll by some cute apartments, cross to the park through the bridge designed by Siah Armajiani, admire sculpture park. Enter museum. Amiable staff greet you. Let yourself be amazed by the artwork in excellently curated and designed exhibitions. Highly recommend.

The Walker is a really nice, whimsical museum. The works in it range from being as new as a year ago to some much older. With temporary exhibits such as Hippie Modenism coming and going, you're always bound to learn something new about history, humans, and the way we perceive the world as art.

Got there for free (every Thursday is) but you better think twice before paying to see this questionable art. And I second the other reviewer - interactive room is what has saved the whole experience.

Great place to go on a date. There is also the sculptress garden nearby. If you are looking for food, there are many restaurants nearby as well. I often come here on the weekend as I work during the week but also weeknights are also a great time to come.

It s a cool museum, but it s extremely inaccessible to anyone on wheels, whether it be a person in a wheelchair or someone with a stroller. I paid $15 and can t even see half the galleries because you can only access them by stairs. Definitely won t be coming back.

The Walker always has great exhibits and shows. The outdoor sculpture garden is great for bringing visitors to, or even active children who want to run around outside. Recently saw a great foreign film in their theater that was amazing! (Parasite)

They didn't have any showings that day for the 1968 exhibit. We were really interested in seeing that so we were dissappointed. I have a small bagallini purse that can be worn like a backpack. The initial "guard" said I was ok as it was a small purse/pack. While walking through the exhibits at least 3 or 4 employee "guards" asked that I remove it. They sited that back packs are not allowed because they are dangerous to others. People wearing them have a tendency to turn and take people out with them. I totally agree and if mine was a larger back pack and not a small purse I would not be irritated. They guard at the front said my purse was small and I was ok to enter. Wish these bored employees would have instead wished me a Happy Mother's Day instead if harassing me about a very small purse that I was wearing like a back pack but held only my comb, phone & credit cards! Not one of those horribly miserable employees even opened with a smile. Sad. They seemed petty and miserable.

The sculpture garden is usually amazing but it is under construction, so my review is for the museum itself.
I was absolutely appalled by the things they pass off as art. I don't claim to be an art critic but oh boy. Let me give you a brief run down.
One exhibit was a pile of cardboard boxes. Literally. Nothing else. Another, was an everyday folding chair leaning up against a brown rug type thing on the wall. A blue plastic tub sitting on the floor. They used a wallpaper of an owl with the stockphoto watermark covering it. I wish I was kidding. There were a few pieces that were actually really good and clearly took effort, but for the most part I was really disappointed. I would not go again.

Amazing museum. Free on Thursday evening and the first Saturday of the month. Usually a great selection of work on display. The permanent collection has a ton of amazing pieces when they are on display. The newish parking ramp is super convenient. The adjacent sculpture garden is always worth a visit, and is great in the summertime.

It's OK although the service reminds me of a diner by my country home where, as in this case, following my dining the bill is slapped on the table and I'm told to sign the VISA (I do know how to complete a credit card transaction by my present age of 72+) then she's on to the next party with a touch more charm. I'm used to a more sophisticated dining experience.

Though sometimes misguided with past exhibits (ie Mankato), this is a really beautiful public access garden and center to have at the heart of Minneapolis. You can spend hours in the gardens alone. They also tackle exhibits that have relevance to our current times that can serve as thought provoking pieces to inspire progressive change. If that's not your thing, don't worry, there are still endless whimsical views to get lost in.

This is a modern art museum and sculpture garden. It is a fun place to visit if you like modern art. They also have events you can take part in and enjoy constantly. Great interactive museum.

Having lived a block away from this museum I have to say that the neighborhood would not be the same without the Walker Art Museum. At the same time, I would argue that the museum is not the same without the Sculpture Garden and Loring park right next to it. I could not fully appreciate the art pieces, but they were not for me. It is a great place for a date never the less. The exhibits are beautiful and the rooms are well spaced, with room for quiet conversation.
