Super cool park and sculpture garden. Loved the blue rooster.
Form of art doesn't interest me. My interpretation is collections of junk.
I love everything from the inside out. And everything in between.
Absolutely live this place. Great way to spend an afternoon. Even if it's just a nice stroll through the park
Very nice remodel, wish they would have left more grass honestly than putting in Prairie plants. Thankfully there's still grass by the cherry and the spoon to have a picnic or play frisbee, etc.
New gems of artistic creativity around every corner
Fun museum, funkier stuff than other local offerings, definitely a place to go with friends who like to think about the art, less so just run through it. Check out the free entry events that are regularly offered.
I always have a blast here. But, I keep going here with people who just want to talk about arts. Versus making it. Not even like the cool stuff, like how Salvador dali's wife would just have him sign blank pieces of paper to scam other people into buying whatever was put on the paper afterwards. Or, how Mark Zuckerberg can play a entire wind section!
We had a volunteer docent who was not well prepared to lead a group around the Sculpture Garden. The brochure was adequat for information about the fascinating art.
1. staff working there are not helpful they all look tired and down/kept warning people not to do this/that why dont you just put rules and signs on the wall
2. very small explanation cards besides works of art sometimes people have to line in queue to look at them...massive place but needs better layout and more welcoming staff.
Some of the art was cool, but paid full price for seeing only half of the exihit space. Half of the exhibits were closed. The sculpture park made up for that however it was a free thing.
Very interesting content. Take your time as you walk through multiple galleries.
Would definitely recommend taking a visit here if you have the time! Excellent place to explore, with really great art pieces.
I can't say why I love it exactly. Probably because of the installations that change, and the installations that don't.
Love the way they remodeled the Garden side entrance with the restaurant and opened up what had been dark area with a full glass wall. Excited to see the outdoor work completed to fully enjoy both the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Lovely place in the city for great photo opportunities and great walking path
This museum has a wonderful free sculpture garden, with views of the city.
I loved it, because everything there is interesting, it is very important that there is space for children to also acquire knowledge about the history of Minneapolis. I was fascinated.
Totally worth the small fee to see all the collections, a ton of well informed docents to answer any questions.
Great arts center. Wish I had more time to spend there.
This is a brilliant museum. I would Call it a world class museum. They have a variety of installations, artwork, presentations and performances. I attended a wonderful performance here and was quite surprised by the diversity of people attending this event. Apparently this is typical. The workers are welcoming place for diversion programming and people from all backgrounds.
The Walker Art Center is OK, but not very kid friendly. During family day, staff constantly tell kids to not jump or climb on large pillows in the kid corner that look like giant stones (perhaps take them away?) Also, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden where most kid-friendly activities are held, has NO shade. Family day is usually 10am-3pm, so the neat activities on the picnic tables are under a magnifying glass pavilion where the kids and parents roast until it's unbearable to sit there because it's TOO HOT. I brought it up to two staff members and I learned that the Walker teamed up with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and they BOTH decided to have the glass pavilion. PLEASE CALL BOTH THE WALKER AND THE Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and ask for a shaded pavilion!!!
Great place to get some exercise and soak in the vibes of the art. An iconic part of Minneapolis, make sure you get your selfie in front of the big spoon - or if that's not your thing, maybe you'd rather have a big blue cock in your selfie?
The Walker is a hidden gem for appreciators of art in the Twin Cities. Did you know that the Walker Shop is (as of writing) the only true art book store in Minneapolis? Phaidon and Taschen books sit expertly curated alongside selections from international publishers (I was very tempted by a number of Japanese imports today at very reasonable prices).
As a cultural institution, the Walker's programming combines arthouse cinema, lectures (check out the annual Insights series), traveling work like the annual British Arrow Awards, and concerts, making the place a must-visit for those who find First Avenue too loud and the Orchestra Hall too stuffy. I once saw Yo La Tengo perform a live score to a 'live documentary' of the life of R. Buckminster Fuller to a half-full room, so it's safe to say the live programming hits particular audiences well while flying well-under the radar for others.
If you're in town on a Thursday, be sure to check out the permanent exhibit - hometown retailer Target graciously will cover your admission fee.
All in all, The Walker is one of the most charming modern art collections in the country. It may not take risks like the MOCA or have a name like MOMA, but the contemplative dialogue you can have with the permanent collection will definitely make the Walker Art Center a fixture of your visit to the Twin Cities.
Beautiful Place of Art just love, love love the Cherry on the Spoon and all the other sculptures
Newly remodeled sculpture garden, mini golf, & art museum.
The sculpture garden here just got redone and has some cool new pieces but also has kept the old favorites! Great museum for modern art.
Great place to spend a leisurely Saturday. Wonderful sculpture garden in the heart of the city
First date??? 1000th date??? Look no further. A classic Minneapolis museum and sculpture garden. Guaranteed to get you a second date!
it is good if you're an art fanatic but to me it is boring
If you dig modern art this is the spot. Great galleries and lots to explore. Definitely check out the mini golf on the roof during the summer months
The gallery is open again with social distancing rules and requiring online reservations with specified times. Gallery is open for free on Thursday evenings. Currently a very odd selection of social comment displays. Way too many steps.
Amazing and beautiful definitely worth my time and will be back
Took a stroll through the latest revision of the sculpture garden. Some walls have come down, and yet it feels smaller somehow. They've also done away with the greenhouse, which was disappointing. I did enjoy the wind chimes in the tree, though. And the big blue chicken is quite handsome.
Interesting exhibits, much more abstract forms of art and the layout of the building is somewhat confusing. We still enjoyed ourselves but probably won't go back again.
Tiny but really interesting. I am excited for the expansion.
It was interesting but I would say for middle school age kids. They can't touch anything but if you go over the bridge (highway bridge) you get to the pond, walking path, park area.
Interesting too cold to be outside the night I was there
Very nice art exhibits, I enjoyed the weirdness of most of it
What a great way to expose art and be free. I wish the weather will be a little warmer. It was an amazing walk around the center. The kids had fun running around in the park.
Awesome place to visit for all ages. Interactive and video installations kept even my teenagers engaged
The galleries at the time were interesting and the staff was helpful. When I visited, there was a mini golf course on the roof which was a lot of fun.
This place is horrible. Modern art is shet. Sorry for people who take it seriously. I'm sorry you feel there is a hidden deep meaning to any of it. Sorry you paid $100 for that bottle of wine. Sorry you need to pretend you know culture because someone sneezed on their canvas. This is what happens when you enshrine bubbles of mediocrity and sell it to people who only buy that to launder money. The employees are rude and creepy. Anyways one star. Wait staff are great though!
Here for a wedding. It was great. Only problem the restrooms were 1 floor down from the reception
Although Native American politics and culture scar the current record of this institution, the art + publications + films + education + mission of this institution are simply beyond what most institutions aim to achieve. This is what culture producers aim to have their work shown in in a democratic republic.
I was not impressed. It has a few pieces of art that we're interesting; however, the overall selection of works leaves something to be desired.
Came for the iconic spoon, wandered around for a bit and wished I had gone to MIA instead. It's a nice art museum, but not really my thing.
The Walker Art Center Is A Wonderful Place To View Great Art In The Twin Cities. They Have Garden Terrace Rooms Available To Rent For Special Occasions and Business Gatherings. Also, They Allow Free Entry The First Saturday of Every Month. A Must Visit If You Like Art and Are In The Minneapolis Area.
Beautiful place. Some very good exhibits going on last week. Wish I'd planned better for a free day. A tad pricey to get in.
Just became a member! Such a neat place. Support the arts!
Very current programs, galleries and events. Saw Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho is on the the event list saw one of his movies here.
This place is so amazing! The gift shops are definitely worth a couple of extra, (well spent!) minutes!
