It's modern art. The best collection in MN but still hit or miss. If you go, go when an exhibit that you are interested in is showing or you may be bored to tears. The expansion is nice - it is silly that is doesn't connect to the existing exhibit space above the first floor. They should have kept the old Guthrie as a performance space and built their parking garage around/behind/underneath it. The best parts of Walker are the sculpture garden (newly remodeled) and the gift shop. I have been to 2 weddings on the outdoor terrace. Both weddings were hot and there was no shade. The area was 5-10 degrees hotter than ambient temp due to the concrete. The wedding party had to wear sunglasses during the ceremony and the grandmother of the groom had to be inside. At the second wedding one of the Walker's catering employees stole the wedding cards and phones, cc, and cash from the wedding party storage room.
