Don't take the family, unless you want over zealous minders screaming don't touch every 5 minutes while your kid sits in a chair that you later realize someone had tried to pawn off as art. The only thing mildly entertaining was a dolphin avatar that talked back to you. Which was cool ..... in 1999. Save the money and go across the street to the sculpture garden.

I've been a member here for many years and for the most part I'm pleased with the exhibit selections and the film offerings. The events are well produced and the renovation of the museum with the addition of Esker Grove has been a thoughtful one. The gift store has an incredible selection of books. I just saw the Adios Utopia (going until March 18) and it was quite good.

Typical dreck for the rusticants of Minnesota. Pay a bit more for the superlative Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim. Of course the fabulous Getty and Hrischorn are always free. There are so many other fine and smaller museums of modern art around the country that clearly outshine this architectural monstrosity of Minnesota chic. However, the Sculpture Garden is a nice place of serenity. The bushes offer a clandestine place to barf after being visually assaulted by the indoor collection and snarky "prison guards". So many of us in the arts fault Halbreich for her disastrous decision to turn down state funds for the expansion. That will continue to cripple the Walker for years to come and leave it as only a regional favorite.

The review concerns itself principally with the sculpture garden.

I was concerned that the rehabilitated facility might not present art with the same August reverence as that of its preceding iteration.

It scale and layout are magnificent. The pieces themselves, as I see them are remarkably uneven.

Some of the pieces justify the claim that artists fall outside any authority or dominance hierarchy. Other pieces, regrettably, demonstrate that other artists fall beneath the aforementioned hierarchies.
Worth a visit.

I'm a teenager and I have gone with my school and my family, most recently during the Van Gogh exhibit. My brother and I enjoyed it, he liked a bunch of old swords, guns, and armor and I liked the Van Gogh section because it reminded me of the Doctor Who episode "Vincent and The Doctor." Anyway, the time I went on a tour with my school it was not as fun because we were rushed through so I didn't have time to look at stuff. I also like to look at art alone because guides and friends are distracting so I didn't like that field trip much. Over all it is a great museum, I'll go back again for sure!

NEVER go on the first Saturday of the month! It's family "free" day. Sounds good, but there is NOWHERE to park. We drove around the parking ramp for 30 minutes, then had to pay $3 just to escape, without ever having been able to park. I love to support the arts, but that was extremely disappointing, especially after we drove a distance to get there. Won't go back any time soon.

Choose 1 exhibit per visit, otherwise the sensory overload will cause your brain to explode. That said love the art. But I do wish they would've left the sculpture garden alone. Not too keen on the update.

Almost all of the parts of the museum was inappropriate for children and even many adults. It involves nudity and shows inappropriate parts of the body, that should not be seen by kids. Plus, it is not worth the money that you pay to get in. I'm really disappointed.

I m not a huge fan of museums, but the Walker is one of a handful I can appreciate. The rotating collections are unique, intriguing, and worth the visit. The newly designed sculpture garden also has quite a few pieces which are worth the up close look.

The walker art center is wonderful. Interesting architecture and design of the building itself, but the inner exhibits are quite exquisite. There is a restaurant inside as well and it is in close proximity to the sculpture garden.

But my favorite experience is the sculpture garden. And it was just recently, as of this posting, renovated. New sculptures, lawn care and there is even an artistic mini golf course!

I did not go through the Walker Art Museum but I did walk around the sculpture gardens outside. These have change significantly in the past year but there are some very iconic pieces of artwork outside. The dropback of the downtown Minneapolis skyline makes for a beautiful setting. Overall, I would not say that this place is the most interesting but it is definitely worth going once.

The modern art on display at this museum was absolutely some of the greatest things I ve ever seen. I have never before appreciated art in such a way. There were moments where I was brought to tears, moments where I laughed, and moments where I just stood there trying to understand. Some of which I could not, but it was still a beautiful experience. However if I could convince the group I was with about how modern art is not just strange, then it would ve been perfect. Yes some people who would see a replication of a car from a fatal accident, or body parts set up in a crate, or CDs stuck to a wall with honey dripping down would be considered strange. But the art behind the pieces is everything. I only wish I had more time to understand every single piece. Also if you are in the military you get in for free!!! A member of our group got all 4 of us in for free. Also the gift shop has some really cool books and overpriced souvenirs, but what is a great gift shop with out that? Will definitely come again, but most likely by myself so I can appreciate the art in a different way. But YES make sure you visit if you re in the area!!!!

First of all, the prices were way too high. Then, they have terrible security. There were so many people just walking in and not paying. The restaurant was the worst! We just wanted a glass of water! They sent us to the counter to order then back to the front then to the counter then to a high top than back to the counter and then they said that they had a table ready!!! We were so annoyed we just left. We are not coming back.
