Leaving a poor review and hoping to change it down the road.
It seems the Walker is in transition. I just hope they do a good job and get there ASAP.
Right now it seems 1/3 of the museum is closed off and waiting for a new show. The other 2/3rds is showing works that are a well below average representation of what they have in their collection. I don't know why anyone would think leaving the hits in storage was a good idea when so much of the museum is walled off. The place feels soulless.
The museum is a shell of itself. So I cannot recommend a visit at this time.

The museum is a wonderful collection of contepomi art. Recommend the rooftop view of the city. Thursday's from 5 to 9 the museum is free. The crowning glory is the sculpture garden across the street. Absolutely wonderful!!

Maybe I was to too many modern art museums recently and got a little "spoiled" but this place didn't meet my expectations in full. Some exhibitions are extraordinary, some seem to be empty shells. Nevertgeless, a place to go to while in Minneapolis!

Always a favorite for free Thursday viewings and the sculpture garden. I highly recommend the British Arrow Awards for seasonal holiday fun viewing of very moving to very funny advertising commercials from the UK

The Body Electric exhibit was weird, creepy and a complete disappointment. I want to see art, not videos, selfies, old televisions and soap dispensers. Here's hoping the next exhibit is worth the admission.

An interesting museum worth a visit. Not my favorite with respect to modern art in the United States, but certainly my favorite in Minneapolis. Be sure to check out the sculpture garden. The architecture of the museum is also a treat.

The best center for the arts I ve had the pleasure of spending a lot of time at. And they use their space so efficiently to punch so far above their weight that this is frankly one of the best and savviest art centers in the country.

The sculpture garden is, of course, one of the great icons of the Cities, and that alone is cause for celebration.

But they also do a huge variety of great events. Phenomenal music including some of the best adventurous jazz in the region, among other great performances. Their various dance and film series are also superb. Great lectures and presentations. Oh, and the larger theater for performances is simply a stunning space.

The actual gallery space always strikes me as a little smaller than I wish it was, so there s not as much visual art to explore here as you might presume. But that said, they use the space to great effect and bring wonderful exhibits.

All in all, one of the best supporters of the arts and culture in the nation, with a remarkably rich and varied assortment of delights.

If you come here even three times in a year, it s completely worth it to become a member. (Or if you simply love arts and the Cities, you owe it to yourself to join.)

A few more notables: Esker Grove, the restaurant, is stellar, and their annual Rock the Garden festival costs too much for a one-day event, but it s so much fun in such an awesome space that it s worth it if you chalk the rest of the cost up to a good deed for the arts.

Took a friend here to see the beautiful gardens and sculptures. Found lots of removed trees, swampy sod freshly installed in their places and no garden buildings. The charm is completely gone. Consolation prize was our selfie in front of the cherry/spoon, which had no trees in the background, only traffic and parking lot vistas. WHO THE HECK WAS THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT?

So much fun to walk across the Stone Arch Bridge across the Mississippi River. Need information knowing that it was funded by James J Hill around 1880. And also it is the second oldest Stone bridge on the whole Mississippi River.

I am giving this a five as the curators were thoughtful in what they displayed in the Adios Utopia exhibit. The art, which touches on the Fidel Castro regime is haunting as we see so many parallels in the USA circa 2017. Challenging free speech , controlling the media- it is all there in the exhibit. I urge anyone interested in expressive Art, Latin American art, Cuba, 20-21st century history or political science to make the trip to Minneapolis and take in the exhibit; it is worth a plane flight from Chicago or other metro areas to take in all things Cubano. Don't miss the window of opportunity, as special interests are lobbying to isolate Cuba once again. Cuban artists are largely uncorrupted, and courageous in their genius!

Alot of racist pieces referring to white people and white cops. And a special section devoted to black power. Anyone see anything wrong with this? I do. And will never re visit this place.

Sculpture garden was great, a 10, however this art museum is pathetic as the so-called art lacks even the most basic of thought or creativity. One would find more forethought, creativity and inspiration walking through the art class of a first grader. A complete waste of your time and money.

The gardens are free. There is a giant spoon that threatens to catapult a Maraschino onto the Basilica of Saint Mary and a Paul Bunyon's Great Ultramarine Cock. The meadows are filling in nicely and I'm excited to visit in more Clement weather. People stroll here, even on cold winter's days! Like really stroll! Good walk bridge to Loring park. Inside there's art, but they haven't bought too many local or emerging artist's works, which should be against their charter. Paul Klee's trough of blue powder would look good on the giant spoon and the Cherry could garnish the architectural picnic shelter where the glass fish used to swim. So there's also a shiny balloon dog and melted walls. I've also seen l'Arte inside that made me cry: moved by anger, grief, lament, sorrow, joy, and bleeding boredom. There's also a chef upstairs that amuses the bouche. I'm told.

My family enjoyed the Walker Art Center very much. Probably the highlight of our visit was a stroll around the sculpture garden outside the art center. It has the iconic cherry on the spoon sculpture as well as several other very interesting works of art. The exhibits inside were also very nice. We were a little surprised that there wasn t more on display inside the center.

A unique and interesting art museum with a free flowing layout. Includes a cafe at the roof level with a great view of the city and a featured art exhibit that doubles as a mini golf course.
