The walker-museum is not your stereotypical art museum but that's what I loved about it. So many interesting pieces to check out, I especially loved the 9 TV's, that was my favourite. There are many floors still closed off so I'm looking forward to those! And teenagers below 18 are free :)

Over priced. Lame art. Didn't understand why other patrons gave me crabby looks while I was talking to my daughter about the art. Didn't see any signs indicating no talking. Also felt ripped off for paying full price when there was only one exhibit open and the rest were not set up yet. $15 should have been half price if only half the galleries we're open. I suggest you check out The Russian Museum of Art at 35W and Diamond Lake Road instead.
While the location and building itself are beautiful, the "art" on display (at least for now) appears for the most part to be junk from someones garage that was stapled to a board and called "art".
Maybe I don't "get" moden art, but I fail to see how bananas stapled to a board, a single string of Christmas lights, or a four minute tape of someone playing with hand lotion is art. For a place with such a nice atmosphere and restaurant, I ended up leaving it rather disappointed.
If you want something consistently pleasing to the eye, the sculpture garden is right next door across a small street, and is also free!
Quality, big city art museum. Very manageable. Easy parking, super kid friendly. Fun ten hole mini golf, great for kids or those on a date. Nice, but pricey (the jewelry especially for what was on offer) museum store. Combine with visit to outdoor park and sculpture garden makes for an excellent day.
Trendy, stylish Art Museum. We visited this place for the first time during the Stomping Ground event, and it was a very fun experience: on the sculpture garden just in front of the museum, a mix of circus artists, giant soap bubbles, and other activities created a magical pop art atmosphere. Inside the well curated exhibits are dedicated to contemporary art with artist using all kind of media. Highly recommended.
A totally disjointed art museum and experience. Compared to the Mia Institute of Art just a few miles, it is such a low-energy experience. Don't waste your time at Walker, and go to the Mia.
A superb collection of worldwide art and artifacts. Whether your into modern art, landscape paintings, ancient sculptures or architectural interior gems this excellent museum has you covered. And due to generous sponsors their is no admission fee. Bring family and friends for a fine outing.
I only visited the sculpture garden so my experience was limited to that, nevertheless I can say it's a nice walk among modern sculptures and eye-catching pieces of modern art. Enjoyable especially during a warm and sunny spring day as the one I was lucky to have!
Clean, well organized and so much to do. Nice that you can walk outside, take photos and all for free! Inside has a rooftop mini gold which was uber fun with spectacular views of the city skylines!
Went here with my school and I can see why people like it but it wasn't for me. If your into modern art, this place is for you. But if you are into this kind of art, I would stray away.
Always outstanding, love the gift shop as well! Rotating special exhibits with great collection of local, national, and international art plus the incredible sculpture garden. Not to be missed. Watch website for special events, Arrow awards are a family tradition. Restaurants are good, ADA access is easy with elevators and mostly wide broad passageways and smooth floors, although there is some brick flooring. Ramp and street parking. Uptown coffee and dessert pre or post visit.
Stopped in to play a little Skyline Mini Golf but before that adventure we needed to try out Esker Grove for a pre-game snack. Definitely worth it and enjoyed it very much. Would highly recommend its great food and service.
Great place for all ages. This is one of the rare outdoor places (Minneapolis Sculpture Garden) in Minnesota that's fun to visit in any of the four seasons - and it's a new experience each time.
I love it, the images and sculptures are quite attractive, besides the climate is ideal inside, I also love the atmosphere of this place, although sometimes there are many people is still very quiet.
Forgive me, but I went for free (thankfully), and I know now that this so-called "modern art" is not for me. If videos of weird things in dark rooms or hd pics of hipsters smoking floats your boat, then this place is for you. Consider me a traditionalist, but I will never go back.
On the other hand, I understand that my bias is highly influencing my perception of such artwork. Opinion on these things is highly subjective. I give it 3 stars because I did not enjoy it. Every additional floor I explored or video watched only furthered my agitation with the notion of "modern art." Take me to the MIA. Otherwise, the building was nice, and there was a gift shop.
As always, I have a great time at the (free) sculpture garden. Great, inexpensive way to entertain your family while on vacation. Always good to get away from the commercialism of other tourist areas. Fantastic art and a nice walk.
Our first trip to the Walker was great. We really enjoyed the Hippie Modernism exhibit. Admission price was fair considering what a large collection the museum houses. We enjoyed our visit here ... looking forward to checking it out in the summer so that we can see the sculpture gardens next time.
Odd to review a museum on a one off basis as the actual content rotates fairly often, so the below will be modified on occasion accordingly.
Five Ways In, currently showing, provides a wonderful opportunity to spend time with a diverse selection of works from the Walker's Permanent collection.
That said, the breadth can be exhausting if taken all in one dose, so I suggest reserving your tee time for put put on the roof to break it up.
Taking in one or both of Elizabeth Price's witty and subversive video installations when the feet get sore is a must prior to leaving (the bumpy rumpy music will keep you aloft).
Exit through the gift shop? Well, no you must make a special trip to the rear of the museum to visit that. Doing so will give you one of the Twin Citiess best kept secrets for tourists and locals alike seeking conceptual inspiration for your contemporaries (or just go bonkers on yourself).
Always love the Walker. It s not huge but it has a great collection and even better programming! Really fantastic different artists come in for performances and talks and Rock the Garden is my favorite concert of the year
