WakeMed needs to work on the waiting time. In my 10 month son had fever I waited more then 4 hours until the Dr showed up. Didn't do anything, just told me to checked on him and waited. What a waste of time. I also agree that the billing is extremely high!

After a terrible motorcycle accident leaving me in...
After a terrible motorcycle accident leaving me in the ICU and hospitalized for over a week, it was clear to me that while the nurses did everything they could, the doctors were extremely unreliable and unprofessional. There was constant miscommunication between the various doctors who I was a patient to, they consistently lost documentation of the CT scans and x-rays I underwent that week which forced me to have to get them done again many times. Pain management was of no concern to these people, with three internal organs sustaining grade IV lacerations, fractured ribs, and various other injuries I was given little to ease the pain. I was lucky if I got an hour of sleep every night due to the excruciating pain from such injuries, with no help from the doctors on that front. I had a resident doctor tell me "the only way you won't be in pain is if you're dead or in a coma" which I felt was extremely rude and inconsiderate to my condition at the time, unable to move, hardly able to consume light foods and liquids, and barely able to speak through my pain and injuries for over a week. I do not recommend this hospital to anyone.

If I could rate this zero I would. STAY AWAY. I would Never ever go back to this hospital. I didn't have a choice this time, because I was in an Auto accident on Oct 10, 2011 and it was trauma. I broke my ankle in 4 place had to have immediate surgery. I was trained for 15 min on a walker nothing else. Pain management STUNK. My husband and I felt I was NOT ready to go home, and they said I had to any way. I was promised by a case manager that I would have home health care, and that did not happen. My discharge note, did not say anything about how to take care of myself, keeping the leg elevated, bathing, pain medication nothing. It was blank. I felt like I was a number with the so called nurses. I have been to Rex hospital for both knees being replaced and feel I am pretty knowlageble about physical therapy and case management. Rex I would rate 10 ( Lake Boone trail). So I have a comparison. I agree with D. that if your Dr. only practices at Wake Med. Then PLEASE get another Dr. I didn't have a choice, because I had an accident and considered trauma and Rex is not a trauma center. I wanted to get transfered so badly but couldn't because of the extent of my injury.

I was admitted to wake med on Sunday morning, had my appendectomy that morning and came out around 7. By 11 they were trying to discharge me. I hadn't had a bowel movement since Thursday and could not even sit up. The ER nurse was awesome so no offence to her but as for the nurses after the surgery and the doctor I only seen once even though I was in unbearable pain..you really need to step up your care and overall bedside manner. My sister helped me to go pee with the container and I had to sit there in pain again and again waiting for someone to respond to the button call. I was discharged Monday still in a lot of pain with no bowel movement or someone to monitor my pain. I will not... repeat not..go there again. This place has really gone down since the birth of my son in which I felt completely took an care of but not this time.

I think it says a lot that I'm giving this hospital 5 stars when we had to leave there without three of our children- one stillborn at term. Quality bereavement care plays a significant role in a parent's adjustment, grieving, and healing. The care we received at WakeMed was exceptional, and I have continued to derive comfort from it over the years. The nurses we had showed us God's love in the darkest moments of our life, and they were there to celebrate with us when we welcomed our son several years later. I remember the way they held our hands, cried with us, and cared for our deceased son and made us feel comfortable enough to savor the time we had to create memories. Sometimes the greatest love comes from simply bearing witness to someone's experience. I also know that if there was any way he could have survived we were at the best possible hospital for NICU services. In addition to this care we had positive experiences with our daughter's broken arm requiring surgery, a stay for jaundice, and several adult surgeries. WakeMed constantly strives for better patient experiences through their training sessions and listening to patient feedback. Thank you!

Don't try to stay with your loved one to make the nurses jobs easier. They act like you are in their way and complain when a sick spouse has to keep food and drinks with them. Due to being diabetic and a heart patient. But they can't help a seriously injuried patient on the bedpan in a timely manner. So you are afraid to keave. They may be a level 1 truama center but they suck at compassion.

Although their medical staff is good their billing practices are awful Although I have been paying them consistently and have a payment arrangement with the they have still turned me over to collections which is now affecting my credit. Before you use ANY Wake Med doctor or service be sure you get the bill out of the way first. They also overcharge when they can. The practice I was seeing was purchased by Wake Med. When I would have labs done before the purchase my cost was $100 to $150. After the change I now get billed for hospital services. The same service cost $800.

My son had intense pain in his tailbone and we went to Duke Urgent Care in Morrisville as it was a Sunda. The doctor visited him and diagnosed it as a pilonidal abscess that needed to be removed. She tried to do it in the office but said it was deep and needed a surgery. She prescribed some antibiotics and said she will make an appointment with a surgeon and contact me afterwards. My son had 102 degrees fever and was in a lot of pain and ............
..........they did not contact us from Duke Urgent Care until Thursday!!!!!!!! And wanted to refer us to a surgeon after 3 days !!!!!!!
I had contacted our pediatrician after failing to get any response from them on Monday and set an appointment with Dr. George Wadi in the pediatrics surgery.
My son was visited on Tuesday and had the surgery on Wednesday!
We are extremely impressed by the level of service from the doctor and also the team at the center. Becky Wells, the nurse was very kind, sharp, resourceful and so were the rest of the team. I want to thank them all and say that we are blessed to have such people/ facility in our community. Thank you all.

I fell and broke my wrist in September, and received excellent care at WakeMed Raleigh ED. Dr. Williams and the ED staff and nurses were excellent. WakeOrthos' Ryan Hamlin, PA, did a great reduction in the ED, and I was able to see Dr. Jenkins there, as well. I proceeded to surgery the next week. I received excellent anesthesia care with block by Dr. Gupta, and surgery with plating by Dr. Jenkins. I was followed in clinic and these appts went smoothly. I received outstanding hand therapy by Deepali Worlikar, OT. I am happy to say, I've made an excellent recovery!!!
Thank you WakeMed!

I cannot even describe how bad I was treated at this hospital. They never cleaned my roadrash and other cuts and when I asked if they could the answer I was given was they could not do it.This left me with scars. I had a broken tibia on my right leg and a detached hamstring on the left leg.. I could not use both of my legs. Every morning they would try to get me to walk when I still could not use my legs. On the third day I asked the nurse to wrap my leg tight from above my knee to the top of my thigh so I can use the leg and get out of there. The happiest day to me was leaving this hospital. The only reason I believe they was trying to get rid of me was because they had me as UNINSURED on the Bill's they send me and keep sending me when the HR Lady from where i work gave another lady from the hospital all my insurance paperwork through workman comp and i personally saw this happen. I was called a month later to rate the service I recieved. I've seen prisoners in Iraq being treated much better than I was( I would have done the same) and after the survey I was told I would get a call. SMH. By the wa, I am not giving this place a 5 star. I edited this because after I submitted it it says I gave it a 5 star.

Today at around 830AM, I park my car and start walking up the hill to the emergency section of the hospital to visit my mother in law. As I was crossing, at the bottom of the hill, a man who had just been let go from the hospital was attempting to cross the street to get to his bus stop that was on the hospital property. I had to help the man across the street because his swollen foot was so bad that he could barely walk. This was made worse by the fact that once I got back up to the emergency area, I saw 3 police officers just standing in front of the entrance as if nothing was going on. I asked them why they didn t help and they stated they did not see the man, they couldnt make the man stay, and that the hospital did not give away wheelchairs...as if I thought the hospital was prison or a wheelchair store. I told them that their actions were shameful and that they should have wheeled the man to his bus stop just a 100-150 feet away. My mother in law s visit has been good and she has been well cared for, but that was an incredible display of incompetency on behalf of those who are paid to be a servant to those around them.

Honestly, it's hit or miss with the staffing.... sometimes you have a great night others you have people who don't actually wanna work.
They did great with my husband's back surgery.... but a trip for me because I was suffering from anemia and they couldn't be bothered to put my discharge in for over and hour, with no other reason to wait. Absolutely ridiculous.
Also, Physical therapy there is bs.

I had my girl delivered here. It was fantastic experience for me . Starting from nurse, midwives, doctors all are very helpful and responsive. I had admitted on Thanksgiving day and delivered my baby on next day. so that was very memorable to me and my partner. My special thanks to Doctor Diana McCarthy and nurses.

The CICU staff has been amazing during this difficult time. With all the family members of a patient refusing to leave their bed side. They brought us a snack basket with water, juice, fruits and other snacks. Giving us the time we needed and the privacy. They were so accommodating and respectful. Even the people at the desk in the critical care waiting area. Offering blankets and pillows for those of us who napped. Thank you so much wake med keep up the amazing job.

There's much I like about WakeMed, the facilities are really nice, wonderful rooms (particularly love the actual ROOMS in the ERs vs. curtained off spaces), great staff, I found the nursing staff in particular compared very well to other hospitals I've stayed at in response time, courtesy, etc. Unfortunately there's one area that is so low it just makes the stay there pretty much intolerable for me, and that's the food. Absolutely the worst food I've experienced in the hospitals in this area. I never once got a meal that was warm, let alone actually hot, and the quality of the food was likewise really bad, everything was overcooked and dry, with very little taste. Often plated with complete disregard for making it look appetizing (included in this review is a photo of the stuffed shells meal I was brought that looked like it was thrown onto the plate, one shell being completely devoid of ANY filling). Having to take already dry overcooked tasteless food and warm it up in a microwave because it's cold does not make for something that is very edible. Having been at UNC Hospitals and experienced food that always came on hot plates, and of far better quality (and much wider range of choices), I *know* the food doesn't have to be anywhere near this bad. When you are not feeling well, and particularly when you really need nutrition in you to heal properly, having terrible food makes your stay so much more difficult. The lack of restaurants in the vicinity that visitors could bring in for you doesn't help either (and getting in and out of the hospital VERY difficult due to traffic as well). So I personally will try very hard to make sure I don't end up staying here for any length of time again.
I d give this hospital negative stars if I could! ...
I d give this hospital negative stars if I could! My family always comes to this hospital because of the childcare is arguably the best in the triangle. Anyway Earlier this week, my aunt dropped me off to see my sister who is very sick, and a security guard calls in for me, but they somehow couldn t find her in the system, and I told him I didn t have a ride, my aunt said she d be back to pick me up in a couple hours. So I go to the lobby closest to where she dropped me off to wait, and I started nodding off, only to be surrounded by officers. I told them the situation, and all I really wanted to do was just see my sister. I accidentally left my phone in my aunts car and I repeatedly asked if I could use a phone. Instead they search me, escort me to the front, take my picture, then ban me from the Hospital for a year!
And that s not even the worse part! On the copy of the report, they didn t even spell my sister s name right, and lied about telling me to leave a first time, after I told them I was waiting on my aunt! I had to walk for miles to get downtown because all the pay phones around were destroyed. I wasn t a patient that day, but it isn t right to treat people that way at all. And it hurts not being there when someone you love needs you most. But hey, money means more to you guys than one single life, I can t expect a big organization to understand that I feel the opposite. Really hoped you guys lived by your slogan

I worked for this company. I've worked for so many different companies, and by far wakemed is the best when it comes to employee morales. They are not perfect. No company is, but they are trying to be the best of the best not just for patients, but also for their employees. I vote for wakemed for employment.

I had been to the ER and waited for nearly 2 hours before a doctor saw me. Finally I was shocked to see a bill for Level 4 ER charges and I am not able to get a correct explanation from the customer service. Also I had to pay 4 times more for the ultrasound at wakemed which was not an ER.

Took our 3.5 year old in to the emergency at 11 p.m. due to a bad asthma attack. Probably waited 20 minutes to get back to a Dr and then were treated rapidly and well. They were patient with our son who was pretty freaked out. He's never been really sick before or in a hospital. It was a busy night for respiratory issues in pediatrics so we did wait in the treatment room in the ER for two hours until a room was ready on the PICU floor but we were being treated etc the entire time. Once admitted, the nurses in the PICU were AMAZING. Our son was particularly upset and combative and they helped me get through it and get his treatments done etc. We were there for two days and the Child Life Services Department saved my sanity. Being seven months pregnant and stuck in a room with a 3.5 year old who was on monitors, oxygen and confined to a bed was beyond stressful. They brought him games, books, puzzles, DVDs, ice cream. Its something I hope we never have to do again, but they made things so much better. The food is pretty crappy lol but it's a hospital not a five star restaurant. They had a few options for my son's food allergies too and were very careful with adhering to his restrictions.

I feel horrible that if there is ever another emergency in my household, this is going to have to be one of our first choices because of location. "Service" was quick for an ER, and areas where clean. To my surprise, for a broken nose "treatment", where nobody laid a finger on my daughter, no x-rays where taken, no real examination was done, we sat in 2 waiting rooms, no real exam area was provided ... we where billed THOUSANDS. The bill simply said "Treatment of a Broken Nose", "Doctor Visit" and "Emergency Room Services" . I didn't know the three where not related, maybe some people go to the ER for pleasure?
Had there been at the very least a REAL exam, I might not be so disappointed, but I feel robbed, and I feel that my faith in people doing the right thing, which is what doctors should do, was affected. Sad.
Will try to stay healthy, and will try NOT to EVER go there again.

We had a really great experience at least as well as you can have in the ER. Seen quickly and got admitted in decent time. The nursing staff was attentive and helpful. I hope the billing isn t as crazy high as other posts say, but time will tell.

Had a terrible experience when my newborn was transferred here, like so many others have posted. This place will ignore your rights and circumvent them, and subject your child to unnecessary procedures and treatments, and refuse to discharge or even transfer them without cause.
If you search, you will see this hospital has been fined every year for all kinds of violations. Medicare fraud, HIPAA violations, kickbacks, you name it.
Avoid going here at all costs, but if you absolutely have to, bring a lawyer and record everything.

My grandfather was in E3-24 for over a week after having a heart attack then he started having other health issues and unfortunately passed away here. All the staff we say daily were very friendly and helpful, the nurses my grandfather had most of the time he was there were Kendall, Kirsten and Julia these nurses went above and beyond for my grandfather and his family and we just want to say thank you again to these wonderful ladies. We will never forget the care you gave to all of us. Please make sure these ladies get recognized for the outstanding job that they do daily for their patients and families. Thank you for the great service we received..

My baby was born at WakeMed several weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier about our experience there. Every nurse was friendly and helpful, and we felt very cared for and supported. The nurse who was with us through most of labor was particularly excellent. We enjoyed the time we had with her and felt that she was invested in the process. I appreciated the hospital's approach to newborn care- the way they encourage rooming in and allow skin to skin immediately following birth. The first hour I got to spend with my son was such a gift! In so many details the hospital went above and beyond to make our experience a good one. 5 stars!!
Wakemed contracts outside companies for onsite ser...
Wakemed contracts outside companies for onsite services (example: an er visit at Wakemed that turns out to need surgery) that are factually known for billing negligence and poor business practices. Highly recommend driving to the next hospital unless your a medical billing lawyer or small claims wiz.
Your coverage will not apply because they contract outside companies for internal operations. Even if your covered out of network (which they are out of network for most with the questionable departments) they will not send the claim to insurance, and they will lie about it.
Then they will send you to collections. What should have been a fully covered operation will turn into $1000s in costs from just the anesthesiology, plus getting your credit scored knocked down a few hundred points, usually irreparably. If you are buying a car or house that could easily add up to $10000s to $100000s (WELL OVER $100000 ON A 30 YEAR MORTGAGE IN INCREASED INTEREST). That is assuming only 1 bill goes to collections. You can expect to receive a minimum of 2 bills for pretty much anything, although Wakemed did write off any internal bills.
UPDATE: After 1 year and 1 month of stressful non-liable debt collection attempts from a third party for a third party as a result of the wakemed er visit, WE finally beat the debt collector...almost. the debt has been removed, we had an authoritative figure deny our liability in front of us and the biller, assured us our legal standing , and is trying to work to process the insurance for the biller. Hopefully biller does not come back to us again, as that appears to be illegal and disputable if reported experian.
It makes me so sad to think about how many people have their coverage stolen from them and made to pay out of pocket!!!!!!!
To Wakemed: As long as you have contractors working with er related admissions, these problems will never go away because of the complexity of medical billing, insurance, and ultimately automation which doesnt care about possible scenarios and is the root problem of all medical disputes. Its the status quo to blame, but more effort needs to be taken to address problems with automation if it is going to be utilized on people.. I have seen you wrote off the entire wakemed portion instead of dealing with insurance, kudos for that. But your contractors do not work with insurance and do not write it off, so your efforts are only halfway there.

This place.... My mom was placed in 623a with high co2 and ammonia levels. She had stage 4 pancreas cancer with metastisis to the lungs. For whatever reason 6 days afyer admission a cna decided it was time to weigh mom. Instead of weighing her in the bed, which would weigh patients, she asked my mom to stand on scales. After trying to tell her she couldn't stand she was made to stand and fell. In the process she broke her leg. I emailed and called admin with no response, apology, nothing. I found out what happened from my mom. Not staff, doctors, etc. After she had not eaten for several days the nurse asked her what she wanted and it didn't matter what shed get it. She asked for pepperoni pizza, which they have on their menu. Instead, they brought her the diet tray. Then I was told oh she can't have pizza. Needles to say I got her pizza. Who cares what she eats as long as she eats. Shes dying!!! Absolute disregard for people their. So thankful for transitions hospice. They got her out of their. Within 7 days of her leg being broken, she passed....

My half sister Tisha L. Reade have been snooping in my medical records & found out that I gave a baby up for adoption. And then she told some of our family members & my friends about my adoption. The fact is that I do not talk nor deal with her. She lives in Orange Park, Florida & works in the medical field. But I don't know which part. I have never been nor lived in Orange Park, Florida. Come to find out that she have been keeping tabs on me through my medical records since August 2015. Not only I feel like I am being stalked, creeped out, and livid. That is a violation of my privacy. I don't know If somebody she knows at WakeMed was giving her my records or she got access to them on her own. But If I don't find out How & Why she did this. I WILL BE TALKING TO MY LAWYER!
Edit: Since I did not receive no type of response back I let my lawyer handle this. I will never come back to WakeMed.

Picked up my mother from the hospital today, who was discharged from having COVID and pneumonia. She needs to be home on oxygen, and the tank they gave us was maybe at 25-30% on our 40-50 minute drive home. Her tank ran out of battery before we got home, and we had to walk her in quickly to any plug, so she could breathe. The fact they didn't give her a fully charged tank is inexcusable. They almost had her coming back if not dying.

As far as medical care Wake Med is great however after dealing with billing/insurance for my husband and two adults sons we will go elsewhere. My husband was between insurances so we payed for his hospitialization outright. My grown son's are fully insured it took months for them to bill my oldest son's insurance. My younger son was there in December and they have yet to bill his insurance but are quick to turn over to collections by their incompetence. At both ER visits the insurance information was provided after my older son had so many billing issues we even provided the clerk his name as well so we did not go through the same nonsense. It seems they would rather lose money and screw up one's credit rating instead of processing claims.

Will over charge you, add extra bills and run all sorts of lab that is irrelevant to your care or what you came there for just for money. I would never go back there again or ever refer anyone there. This place should be investigated for their fraudulent billing practices.

Beware they have a metal detector when you walk in. Security guards in an overcrowded emergency department. I was in the hospital 21 days ago, paid my co-pay and received a call from a collection agency today. What are they going to report on my credit? Current? They are turning fresh accounts over to collection to increase their cash flow. It was only 500 dollars. For anyone who needs serious care and may need payment arrangements, you had better avoid this place for this reason alone. Aside from this, the facilities, equipment and amenities were the worst I've seen. Staff were very nice quality people. All mentioned working so frantically that they were sweating and apologizing for their lateness and inattentiveness. Update: They reply "We want to learn more..." when they don't. I had already emailed them because the same weak reply is posted to all negative reviews. Why don't they answer two questions on this forum to quickly clear it up. 1) Do you use a collection agency called Optimum Outcomes? 2) Do you forward balances less than 30 days aged to this collection agency? Update: I had to wrestle my bill out of the Optimum Outcomes folks who used many different gates and challenges hoping I'd give up. When I finally received it, I realized why. It shows the bill is from WakeMed Emergency Physicians and comically says it is a collection agency collecting a debt. It shows the date of service and the zero balance yet it STILL hadn't been 30 days. It is a smoking gun. By the way, WakeMed whom quickly posts responses on Google Maps Bete that they'd "like to learn more" are equally insincere as they do not reply to emails on that address.

Wake Med is amazing. I live in Fayetteville and Cape Fear Valley is horrible. They sent me home with a horrible life threatening kidney infection and I couldn t see the urologist until 2 months later. I took it upon my myself to go to Wake Med and they immediately admitted me and had a stent put in my kidney to drain the infection. PA Kelly Gill is not only one the most beautiful people I ve ever seen but she is so nice and understanding. I was told I would of have gone into sepsis if I haven t come here. I would recommend Wake Med to anyone!!

7Yrs ago I received the ultimate best care for my baby and myself. The staff was so hands on and in tune to my entire pregnancy, every question answered and they helped control all my fears. Not to mention ,I always had the same doctor each visit .Today I have a healthy 7yro son I'm completely head over hills in love with .

Our 6 year old son had to go last night after figuring he would try some super glue. We have 2 year old twins and my husband took him. As a mother I am use to being right there with my children. After reading some reviews, I was unsettled to say the least. Our oldest is 20 and not much freaks me out. So,not being there I called the staff was very nice. They let me speak to the doctor that was taking care of our son. I did not want to take much of her time, she had already covered all of the bases and through a brief report I knew she was on top of it. The fact that the doctor actually spoke with me was above and beyond. I cannot recall her name but I would like to thank her for that. Thank you all in the children s ER for taking good care of our son!

My son had surgery, nurses and doctors were great. As a nervous wreck I felt they helped keeping the room calm. We have never been here before and I was reading these reviews on the way to the hospital and was a little ehh about seeing the negative reviews and ratings. But what it looked like is everyone is complaining about the er and how much time they have to wait. Overall all good people, good atmosphere.

I went to the er because I have a history of an ectopic pregnancy. I went due to me having some bleeding I waited in the waiting room for 2 hours before being triaged. After that I was sent back to the waiting room where three more hours past. With those 3 hours i had a junkie and his pill popping team sitting near me plotting the rong leader tells his buddies don't let them know you faking. Mind you these junkies came two and half hours after me the were taking to the back on my 3rd hour after being triaged . I left because my pain was getting worst. I went to rrex and was treated in 5 hours. This is a place for if you dont have a real emergency avoid this hospital because with the ignorance they practice you will die in there in waiting room

Their financial dept/billing in Charlotte was the absolutely worst hospital billing I've ever had the displeasure of doing business with. They will hang up on you if they feel justified in doing so. You have to call back repeated times over a simple issue. I've never ever done business with a hospital or medical facility that I feel is so incompetent.
The supervisor called me "sweetie" and I asked her to please call me Mrs. So and So. She refused, saying "I can't pronounce your last name so I'll call you Miss Nancy"!!! It was beyond lack of professionalism.
How does the CEO not know what is going on and why does he allow his business/hospital to do business like this??

The doctor said that my mom had kidney stones in her gall bladder that's when they did the ultrasound. They were based on the ultrasound what it reads which it was she had a big stone and a lot of small ones. My mom was telling them where it hurts which it was her lower abdominal but they didn't listen on what she was telling them. So they decided to do the surgery anyway. But when she was in surgery they didn't found anything, no stones. But now my mom is in worse pain. That was a wrongful surgery.

Hospital staff everywhere in Wakemed has been kind and helpful. I have no complaints, and when your loved one is being treated that is really important!
Hi Everyone,
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to take a moment to relay our experience about our visit to your hospital. You probably get a lot of haters but this is not the case.
My daughter began complaining about stomach pain on the 25th of January. We visited our pediatrician on the 26th and were sent home. We returned to the pediatrician on the 28th and she recommended that we go to the emergency room and request an ultrasound.
Courtney is not a crier. She plays paintball and is really pretty tough. So on our arrival she walked on her own dry eyed. To myself and probably to the attending nurses it was not apparent the level of her discomfort. So when she was asked and she said it was a 8 on a scale from one to ten, I could have understood for there to be serious doubt. I know I felt it. Courtney was upright and clearly speaking. However the nursing staff did not blink an eye. They took her very seriously. They treated her with compassion and respect. Never accusing her of exaggeration allowing her to maintain her dignity. They even offered her something for the pain, which she refused.
We were seen quickly and an ultrasound was performed. A cyst of 4cm was viewed on her right ovary. Again and again she was asked where the pain was and she steadfastly repeated that it was not on the right but all of the way across the front of her abdomen. The Dr. on call, I do not know his name, felt we should stay the night because with that level of pain it was probably going to rupture during the night. Even he took Courtney at her word that it was a level 8. Courtney did not want to wait in the hospital so we took her home.
Over the next week nothing changed so on the 5th she insisted on going back to school. It was spirit week after all.
At 1:00 PM I received a call from Courtney. She told me she needed to go to the hospital. I immediately went to get her from school. When I picked her up she was calm and a bit depressed. I know she did not want to return to the hospital but the pain had increased. Upon arrival we found the ER very busy. It took a long time to be seen however the nursing staff offered her something to help with the pain during her wait. Again she refused.
After a time we were brought in for another ultrasound. The cyst had increased in size but we were not sure that it was the cause of the pain. She still insisted that the pain was across the front of her abdomen not just on one side. At this point we were admitted. We had many visits from doctors and nurses alike. Courtney received an abundant amount of attention. They gave us a room and we waited to find out what the surgical staff wanted to do next.
On February 6th Courtney had laparoscopic surgery performed by Dr. Wadie and his staff. Upon completion his thoughts were confirmed. Courtney had a ruptured cyst but not the one viewed on the ultrasound. This cyst had ruptured probably back on January 25th but the blood had not been reabsorbed into the body like usual. So here my strong baby had been really walking around with that kind of pain for almost 2 weeks! I would never have known. She was calm but insistent. The staff had never treated her as if they doubted what she said. They always seemed to take her at face value. True professionals in my opinion!
Now I do not know if you have ever had a ruptured cyst. I have and I have to say that the pain is truly exquisite.
Because Courtney is apparently tough as nails I had no idea what she was truly going through. However the staff at your hospital always treated her with respect and kindness. Never did they doubt what she was going through. At least they never showed doubt in word or action. They allowed her to retain her dignity. I am so very grateful for the staff at your hospital. I cannot adequately voice my gratitude!
Thank you!
Cyndi

Worst hospital I ve ever had the displeasure of being serviced at, 4 hours to be placed in a room, then 30 minutes to actually see a physician just to be prescribed ibuprofen that I can purchase otc. Somebody died the night I came, and the family members were horrified, screaming and crying, nobody batted an eye even the staff didn t care. People that come here with excruciating pain should go somewhere else.

My wife was in pain and constantly vomiting from what we found out later was an infected kidney stone. We were out of town at the time, so we took her to the local ER for pain management and diagnosis. They gave her pain meds and told her the stone would pass. Two days later we took her to a urologist in New Bern, NC and he said she would pass the stone and that she would have to wait 6 weeks before they would consider operating. After a week of her vomiting every morning and night as well as in constant pain, I decided to Google specialists for kidney stones. I found Wake Med Kidney Stone Center and called. They saw my wife the next morning and by the afternoon, she was in surgery for a stint placement. Dr. Ian Udell was amazing, warm, and very knowledgeable! He found she had an infection and wouldn't have passed the stone on her own even though it was only 3mm. I've never seen my wife in so much pain before Dr. Udell put in that stint. If you suspect you have a kidney stone, don't mess around with local doctors. I highly recommend Dr. Udell at Wake Med Kidney Stone Center!! Fyi they also provide nutritional counseling, xrays every year to monitor for any signs of future stones and an ultrasound after surgery to ensure no further problems! All from Dr. Udell yall! Some things are worth the drive time and money.

The staff here is amazing! I had to stay 4 nights in the hospital, and everyone from the nurses to the doctors to the transport personnel to the dieticians to the EVS to the medical records personnel, was just the most amazing people. I had such a pleasant experience. I don t have one person out of the numerous of people I had seen to not speak highly of. This hospital and staff is amazing!

I took my daughter (1yr old) to see an ENT Dr. Flieschm and she was AMAZING from start to finish. They checked her ears and hearing after we were referred for MANY ear infections. She was so good with her and put me at complete ease before and after the tube surgery (that's saying a lot because I'm an uptight self admitted helicopter mom). As soon as she was finished with the surgery she came out and spoke to me personally to let me know all went as planned. A few weeks later we went back to make sure she was all healed and they looked perfect. This is the first time my kid has gone even a month without an ear infection and now we are at three months!!!! I'll wont go to anyone but this doctor even if I have to cross state lines again to do it. She's an awesome doctor WITH bedside manner.

honestly, wakemed service is a hit or miss and i m always skeptical of going there but last night my team was amazing for the most part. let me start off by saying i got there at 5:51 and was seen at 7:11 and that s honestly not bad at all for wakemed. in the past, i waited several hours just to get seen one time. moving forward, my nurse (christi innoncent) was phenomenal! she was so patient, sweet, and caring. i was in SO much pain but conversations with her kept me distracted from it, honestly. she is truly a super human! at some point, i was supposed to get a morphine drip to ease my pain (i had kidney stones) but i think they kept forgetting to give me some because i had to ask several times in a matter of thirty minutes. but it was an incredibly busy night for them and they had some sort of code red due to capacity so it was somewhat understandable. the only problem i did have was with one of the nurses, i had asked her for some water and she told me she had to check with my nurse and i politely asked her to find out as soon as possible because i had been throwing up all day was incredibly dehydrated. she responded by saying and? with an attitude and walked off. which i felt was VERY rude and uncalled for. aside from that, all my nurses were as sweet as can be and they made my little stay very comfortable and i appreciate them all!
