The theater is very beautiful and sumptuously decorated, but unfortunately in a slightly worse condition.
I have now seen the play 'The Merchant of Venice' and I can only recommend it. The actors are very good and the prices are very cheap compared to other cultural institutions in Vienna.

Location: nice, if a bit in need of renovation!

Piece: Defense of Democracy
Great staging and very interesting, in times like these, where our democracy is constantly endangered, a very important piece! For those who are convinced Democrats, a must, for all non-democrats all the more, because they could learn something! Theater that takes a clear stance and promotes the values of the Enlightenment. BRAVO!

Vienna is known for its great theaters. Among them is Volkstheater with its beautiful architecture that can be seen from several hundreds meter away. Sometimes, the theater is also host to great events like TEDxVienna. Try its bar, when you are there (Rote Bar).

A wonderful setting for any performance. The introductions to the pieces immediately before the performances in the red / white salon are also very fine. The seating could be better and more comfortable.

Very nice and comfortable theater with very nice and helpful staff. The play "The Merchant of Venice" was interpreted interestingly, but a bit too modern for my taste for a play by Shakespear.
Another plus is that the ticket in Vienna is also considered a ticket.

Little opera in Vienna by dear. We can have places for less than 40 euros seated and well placed. Only negative point, there are no leaflets in English available for translations. In addition, provide 2 euros for changing rooms because not included in the ticket price (unlike the national opera)

Excellent theater, I'm at the Volkstheater at least once a year. Of course, it always depends on the staging and tastes are known to be different but no matter whether local or tourist. The Volkstheater is a must.

New management lets us think about whether we do not cover our subscription. Going to the theater for a long time (also to the Volkstheater) but to exchange an outstanding ensemble completely was new! And the many empty seats, as well as play-free days speak for themselves. The paying public should be considered when creating the game plan !!! The most gratifying thing is that the director is leaving in the foreseeable future. That gives hope that the audience will no longer be educated on their view of theater and culture . Maybe there will not be a hostile program anymore. The play-free days and the pretty empty auditorium (and empty cash registers) may have even attracted the attention of operators and politicians .
3. 7. 2019 Finally one has reacted and the director says goodbye (unapologetic until last). One should never give up the hope and maybe someone comes who also has a feeling for the wishes of the audience and is not only a self-promoter and would like to have his theater full

I grew up in Austria ... but moved to Turkey 10 years ago. After 10 years I came back to Vienna to visit my dear friends and to see you. Back then I couldn't travel to this city because of starting a family, so I missed a lot. This time I did what I couldn't do 10 years ago and I am very happy about it. Fortunately, even though it was still winter time, the weather was nice and I enjoyed it. I have recorded many memories and events .. If I should come back one day, I would like to get married from Vienna My advice is 5 out of 10 *

The Volkstheater (formerly Deutsches Volkstheater) is a theater built in 1889 to designs by Hermann Helmer and Ferdinand Fellner in the 7th district of Neubau in Neustiftgasse 1, since 2017: Arthur-Schnitzler-Platz 1. It is located opposite the Natural History Museum in the neighborhood of the MuseumsQuartiers and the Spittelberg and is one of the largest theaters in the German-speaking area.

love going to this place and seeing plays here. the price of getting your clothes put away at the cloakroom is included in the tickets, which makes things a lot easier and somewhat cheaper. tickets for students are really cheap and you can always get some cheap tickets for great seats right before the plays start, so works great if you're more of the spontaneous sort. i frankly enjoy the atmosphere that the theatre lends to its production; in a way plays feel more active/personal than elsewhere. really love this theatre!

Incredible theatre! Worth to visit at least once even if not a big fan of theatres! Before a spectacle, the visitor is amazed by the decoration and the lights. I will come back if I have the opportunity. They offer also spectacles with subtitles, very open minded for tourists and foreigners - bravo!

One of the older theaters in Vienna. It was renovated some time ago and the seats were placed in such a way that you can see clearly from everywhere. Unfortunately there is no elevator. Parking spaces are in short supply, but there is a chargeable garage nearby.
