Worth the detour. It is as much a museum as a place of sale of Vitra products. Do not hesitate to come with children.
The sales exhibition and the shop are great. The building alone is worth a visit. The exhibitions we did not find so spectacular now.
Super. You can definitely go there. For art and furniture enthusiasts top class, but also for selfie-addicted interesting. Be sure to inform about the changing exhibitions beforehand!
For those who love architecture, this place is pure enjoyment! Very rich and enjoyable, it has shop / bookshop attached where you can buy anything and everything.
Very interesting, the tour is an absolute must, when visiting the site!
You like design? The beauty of things? Vitra Design Museum is THE spot to get inspired. Wonderful museum! Don't miss the furniture exhibition right next to it. It is just a beautiful design island with many ideas. Really enjoyed being there.
What a great place. You can feel and touch everything
It is a design museum, but the interior of the furniture is good!
It was so nice to see it.
I was also doing a Victor Papanek design exhibition and I was personally pleased (adult 11 / student 9 )
Very nice and worth seeing here you must have been.
Incredibly good museum with really great exhibitions ... and the architecture is the perfect backdrop for taking pictures
Free entry. Always new to discover. Fun in the shop to browse, very good information about architects and designers on displays on all floors. The attached cafe on the ground floor with selected treats. The exterior of the Vitra Design Museum offers photographers exciting subjects at any time of the day.
In the middle of the countryside (I suggest taking the 55 bus from Claraplatz which leads very close, tram 8 leaves a 15 min walk) into buildings designed by contemporary architects. A museum that collects objects that have made the history of design and a center where these objects are contextualized to furnish rooms where you can enter, sit, touch ... A beautiful shop where you can buy objects or miniatures. And then exhibitions ...
For people with a sensus for design an absolute highlight
Learned so much on the walking tour with Man Ling! So inspired after visiting this place and it completely reshaped how I view architecture. The most well known building here is probably Zaha Hadid's fire station, which was also her first ever building! There are also work by other equally pioneering architects. The museum is also super easy to get to from Zurich.
I took a 90-minute guided English tour.
They will carefully guide you through each building of the facility.
Surprisingly nice destination. Factory closed to museums but you don't really feel left out.
Interesting design museum. But things are very expensive. I did not like that it's worth taking something in my hands to see, just a note from the staff that would put in place and were careful.
The museum, production and presentation rooms of Vitra are worth a visit.
A chair is a chair? Hardly likely. Even simple chairs show the great art of perfect design here. Just go there and test. Admission to Vitra is free.
The museum is nice for architecture or design enthusiasts. I really enjoyed visiting Zaha Hadid's fire station - I think it's her first built work and definitely a canonical one. Also Alvaro Siza's building is beautiful. The Frank Gehry building is cute, a tiny miniature Gehry piece, quite subtle because of it's size. I disliked Tadao Ando's building, but that's only my personal taste (I do like some of his work, but he's not one of my favorite architects).
Can't rate the H&dM piece, since it wasn't built yet when I visited. There are nice Oldenburg objects for those who like his work. The 100 chairs collection is great, but I would have liked it much better if it was possible to really observe them closely, which isn't the situation right now. There's also a Jean Prouve prefabricated structure - very interesting.
In conclusion - not the best architectural experience I've had, but definitely a positive one. If you have time and architecture is your highest priority it's a must. But if you're schedule is tight and you're also interested in other sites, such as art museums, or city monuments, then perhaps it's better to visit H&dM's buildings in Basel itself (there are quite many), and maybe add a Botta or a Richard Meier to that if they're your taste.
Very nice chairs. But not very cheap. A chair costs about 500 Sfr.
This is an amazing and very interesting place to visit. You need plenty of time there as there's so much to see! The guided tour is a must, it takes nearly 2 hours but is very informative. We ate at the smaller cafe as the main one was full, and we all enjoyed our lunch.
Very nice place to visit for who is interested in design
An absolute must for every design lover. Top Museum.
Nice exhibition. Good for collecting ideas for your own home
The sign outside says no extras for service... the prices of drinks are double...
Great history of culture through chair design. It's beautiful to watch how taste and technology has changed in the last couple of centuries and, at the same time, view the best chair design in the world! I'd love to come back again.
Very stylish ... good food ... well worth a visit with children
Worth seeing, especially those who are interested in architecture and design is right here.
When you apply for the architecture tour of Bitra Museum, you can see the experimental buildings designed by the best architects in one place. It is recommended that you can see the inside of the campus with a friendly explanation of the guide.
Constantly changing and excellently curated exhibitions with international standards.
If you are fond of design, do it absolutely. Good restaurant although prices a little above average.
Impressive architecture in a beautiful landscape. The building with curves and corners looks like a sculpture. Furniture and elements of interior design are shown above all. There are also numerous special exhibitions, so that a multiple visit can be worthwhile.
Love this place! Food is delicious, very qualitative and for a very good price!
A great place and an interesting museum. In which one can be amazed and look. With the necessary change you can of course buy the absolutely creative designer furniture here.
Very impressive exhibitions. A really successful mix of showroom and museum. Very interesting side exhibitions. I absolutely have to go there again.
Gerry's deconstructionist architecture among his first productions, now home to several temporary exhibitions since the chair museum has been moved to another building. It is really worth visiting to understand the interplay of volumes between inside and outside.
Very beautiful exhibitions, especially the temporary to B. Dashi, an Indian architect, is recommended! The food is good, price performance relatively balanced. Was sketching there with my friends, great motives!
In the middle of the design parts factory of Design, a space full of International Architecture !!!
I visit regularly and often like the exhibition in the "main house" (which incidentally is free). Really great the alternating themes and many details to discover! My children are always excited and happy! I can also recommend the food. Thank you VITRA!
A good place to be! Impressive architecture, great terrain! Even without money, you can see a lot of sights. The entry for the current exhibition "Night Fever" but absolutely save! Totally overpriced and only slightly interesting. After 15 minutes you are disappointed. 11 entrance is totally covered! The main building, the shop, the grounds .... great!
Inserted in an almost rural context, the Vitra Design Museum is an institution for fans of the sector.
Several famous architects have been called to contribute to the creation of this campus which offers the public a fabulous cultural experience within the production site of one of the world's best-known design brands.
nice exhibition and overview of the design history of Vitra. The Vitra-Haus is only enough to watch. Those interested should also visit the museum and the collection.
Very nice batiment! Happy with my new elephant 'and my girlfriend happy with her new bull . Vitra !!
A must for everyone who likes design and architecture
The Vitra design museum is a space of inspiration. The art or design exhibitions are thought provoking. The interiors show a detail for love and history. A lot is offered for free. Of course it can get a little crowded, but I still enjoy coming back every time. The variety of trinkets and books in the giftshop are a great resource for souvenirs and presents.
Worth the slight detour to see some design classics.
Super cool! If you are in the vicinity, be sure to visit!
Perfect for design and architecture lovers. Do lool for some free guided tours of the buildings available sometimes.
Wonderful facility for architecture and design lovers. Definitely book a guided tour to dive deeper into the matter.
Great museum with a super exciting exhibition on cutting-edge topics. Impressive architecture (Frank Gehry building 1989).
Totally crazy experience that I have made here, but with me rather the "deli" hang like the rest of the environment ... ;-)
So close to my home...and very nice place if you read the book "1000 chairs". Ordered three nice famous chairs from this campus..... Really and stro gly recommand you to visit.... Focus on each edge of design and the background of Artist....
Was there for the second time. Both the museum, the depot with seating from what feels like the last 100 years and the main building with Vitra products are worth a visit. The newly created natural garden invites you to linger. The icing on the cake is of course the path to the Beyerler Foundation.
There is no choice for vegan on the menu.
