Let me begin by stating that if you require wireless high speed internet, as we do, then I strongly recommend Velocity Networks over the other provider(s). FAST AND RELIABLE SPEEDS, GREAT PRICE AND AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Here is my story. We have lived on our acreage since 1992, and we are now situated within the town boundary of Cochrane. When wireless internet first became available, it was provided by Platinum Communications. Even though no other option was available, we were still fairly happy with the service. Over the years, things changed at Platinum, and eventually, due to the re positioning of a tower or something like that, our internet became next to useless. A technician came out and finally stated that we were basically a hundred feet or so outside of their coverage area now, so nothing could be done. At this point, we switched over to the other provider in our area (Xplornet), and initially were quite happy with the new faster speeds. This lasted all of about 2 weeks, until we noticed that our speeds were usually even worse than before. When I called to find out why (and it took a long, long time to even talk to a human), I was informed that we were going over our daily data limits and were being throttled back. When I inquired about this, I was told that during "peak hours" our data usage was limited, and exceeding this resulted in throttling. OK I said, what are considered peak hours. Peak hours, I was told, were something like 7 AM to 2 AM (I don't remember exactly). We abruptly ended our trial period, and called up Velocity. Technician arrived the next day, and went out of his way to ensure we had the best signal/line of site to the tower possible. Immediately we had fantastic speeds, usually faster than promised, and NO DATA LIMITS. We have been with Velocity for several years now, and rarely have we experienced any technical issues. When we do, 1 call puts me in touch immediately with a live human being who is always able to resolve the issue. Obviously one cannot compare rural wireless internet with what is available in town, but for those of us that don't have that option, Velocity is your best choice, hands down. If you don't believe me, try your luck with the other guys. I've been there, done that, and was not impressed. In

We have been very pleased with the friendly, personal, informative, professional service we have received from Velocity. Including phone communication, site assessments, installation and follow-ups. Thank you Adam, Bob, & Christine (and all the others behind the scenes). If not for Velocity's expertise we would not be able to enjoy the convenience of home internet service. We appreciate the company's dedication to getting Internet to rural homes, when difficult terrain & environment made it extremely challenging.

It has only been two weeks but there has not been any connection issues at all. If any issues arise we are confident that Velocity will address the problems quickly and to our satisfaction. We highly recommend Velocity Networks.

I had a very difficult problem with data at a trailer park. It was really hard getting support at first but when Jason at Velocity got involved everything changed for the better.

I'm a retired IT specialist with over 32 years of IT experience. I have never had any provider recover from an unpleasant experience as well as Velocity.

I was not especially kind or friendly about my complaints but Jason was not about to get tangled up in my frustration.

He was professional in how he handled things and, in all my years of dealing with data providers all over the world I have never received better service as a means of recovery from a stubborn technical issue. Jason got involved and called me up and proposed a solution, which I gratefully accepted, that was so far above and beyond my best expectations that I had to come change my review.

I highly recommend this company as they really care about their customers. As you can see I changed my review after Jason commented below.

Even though we may not be going with them, as their service may not be available to us, their customer service is unparalleled to the point I'm writing this review.

We've dealt with nearly every rural provider in Alberta and none have come anywhere close to service we've received from Velocity, and we're not even customers! I would recommend Velocity to anyone looking for internet in rural southern Alberta in a heartbeat.

My outside internet cable failed on the Friday before the long weekend. Velocity sent a tech who arrived at 5:30 pm. He spent 2 hours finding and repairing the problem so that we were good to go for the long weekend. The service was above and beyond. I've been a customer for over 5 years and they have always provided great service and support.

This local company is nothing short of extraordinary! I have nothing but great praise for everything they do. Their support is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Their on site technical installers are professional and experienced. I had a deer rip my outdoor cable at minus 40C this winter and they sent a repair man as soon as the temperature hit minutes 30 and things were repaired to perfection.

I have been a client almost from day 1 and have seen them grow and expand their network and upgrade their equipment. I have actually recorded the fastest download ever over a wireless network and the second highest ever in my travels to 33 countries! Their towers never go down and even now during COVID work from home I am able to host zoom meeting with up to 20 people on five continents better than from my office in Calgary. I just recommended two friends to the service because I am so happy with it. Just so you know I am a Computer Engineer so have high expectations of technology but I m happy to say they have exceeded all of them. We also have an Airbnb in our home and none of our guests have ever complained about the Internet.

I am wanting to revise my review but can't seem to get it back on my CBDawn account. The service technician did arrive as per arrangement and assured us he knows what to do to get our internet up and running successfully. We have a few gamers in the home and needed a more personalized internet set up which Velocity tech guided us through. I informed my neighbors about our situation and would recommend this company.

I am amending my previous rating of 1 star to reflect the prompt attention that Jason (the owner) has paid to this issue. Unfortunately after a few calls and the same issues, it took a 1 star rating to bring this issue to the forefront, but Jason and Kevin have responded and have acknowledged the issues that have been happening over the last while.
Great response to my issues and the subsequent follow up to ensure that things are moving forward as we continue to work to resolve this.

Edit: Upgrades are complete so I am re-writing my review.

In short, Velocity internet is the best ISP I have been able to find in the area, but they are not perfect.

During times of day when others are not on you will get at least the speeds you pay for, if not more (I get around 15MBPS more than I pay for during these times). However, during high traffic hours (5-11PM for me) speeds go down quite a bit. For example, I pay for 30MBPS down, but during high traffic times I get approximately 10-25MBPS down. While this isn't great, the internet is still usable, which is much better than any other ISP I have found in the area (except for satellite, but then you get massive ping issues).

My only real word of warning is the rate at which they do their upgrades. My family pays over $200 a month for MBPS down, but during the two months it took them to upgrade their equipment were lucky to get 5MBPS between 5 and 11 PM. During the final two or three days of the upgrades I experienced multiple disconnections resulting in me not having internet for most of Christmas. However, these issues are now resolved. Just be cautious as it may happen again.

My experience with Velocity has been better than w...

My experience with Velocity has been better than with xplornet - however there's still lots of work to be done to improve the quality of service, price, and speed.

I don't usually write reviews however my service is partially down so I figured maybe someone out there may want to read an honest review about what it means to be a velocit customer. At present moment i font havw much to watch as there is Netflix outage across the velocity network - or at least thats what the tecnician i just spoke to told me. Velocity hopes to have the Netflix issue resolved with in a couple days... yes you read that right folks... a couple days (argggg) This after losing service all together for several hours just this past Saturday.

Overall the service works okay when it's running properly , however I do find myself resetting the modem ad power supply to the receiver dish every few days when it randomly drops out. I've reported this issue to Velocity on a number of occasions however I have yet to be offered a solution. Most times Velocity suggests it's a router issue however resetting the router alone rarely resolves the isue.

The cost for this limited service is quite high compared to what the large providers in Town offer... a family member of mine living in Cochrane gets 3 times the download speed for 1/2 the price from Shaw. Plus her service rarely goes down.

If you don't have another choice velocity is better than nothing... just be prepared to have a fair amount of random service drop outs and pay a premium for it.
