Expensive and small. The train ride was a joke. When I commented about the price the woman said "well the San Diego zoo is more," I love zoos but this was a disappointment. Miss my Houston Zoo.
We love the Hogle Zoo. The staff are friendly and informative. The animals are active and every time we see something that we haven't seen before. This is a great place for a family day or a date. Ypu should check it out.
Always a good time at Hotel Zoo and the new Polar Bears are great.
The food is great the animals are well taken care of. Imiss the old play ground though
Other comparable cities to SLC have zoos that dwarf the Hogle Zoo. Let's keep increasing the funding at the Hogle Zoo appropriately to reflect SLCs growth.
Wonderful experience with children, the zoo is always fresh, because there are water jets, the food they sell is fresh, the animals are well cared for and everything is clean
Definitely recommend trying to go when the weather is a bit cooler. Animals are much more active when it's early and cool.
Pretty good. Perhaps could use more animal exhibits.
We love this place. We got to see the 1month old baby gorilla!
I went to the zoo on Tuesday in the afternoon and tried to take my family into the small animal building. The boy out front told us that we weren t allowed inside without masks on. I m sorry if y all eat up that fake news, but I m not gonna put a mask on my and my kids just for a nasty cough. The fact that this zoo requires us to put on masks just to see animals that we paid too see is not fair, and we won t be returning anytime soon!
We went on a snowy day in January. Not alot of people. The polar bears seemed for active at this time. The exhibit areas are big and spacious but you can see everything easily from the vantage points.
Zoo lights are a must see. Always well maintained and atmospheric.
Zoo Brew was amazing. It was delightful to wander around the zoo with an open can of beer. I also really enjoyed seeing the park without children. Worth coat of the admission and the extra cost on beers.
The zoo is a fun full day or half day adventure, there is not much competition besides the aquarium and the aviary. Animals enclosures seem nice and large. The train and the carousel are always fun for the kids.
Good place for family hang-out. We went in 2019 in the month of September. However little disappointed to see how elephants are managed. Don't miss the train ride :)
Such a fun place for kids. The carousel and indoor birds and mammals exhibits are so great.
Make sure you get to the carousel a half hour before they close or you will not ride. I found a kind of officiousness to most all of the people I inteacted with while I, my wife, and two little boys visited. They didn't seem to want us there.
It is an ok zoo. The best in Utah. Needs more funding.
We had a great time at the Zoo over the weekend. It was cold since it was the beginning of February. But it was nice because not many people were there and it seemed like the animals were more active (the ones that were out anyways) Not all animals were out but the Zebras were running around the lions were walking around and the bears were very active which us different from what we see during the summer of all the animals lying around. It was a great family day even if it was a little chilly!
This zoo is AZA accredited and all the administrative executives I've had the privilege of meeting very seriously believe in and directly support the zoo's mission of education and conservation of all species of animals. The animals at this park receive the best medical care and facilities appropriate for each species. All the caregivers I've had the privilege to talk with are passionate about the highest quality of care for the animals in their charge.
This zoo is much more than just a park to go and look at caged animals. Paying money to this zoo means you are supporting their efforts for conservation and education of all species of animals and to improve conditions and rehabilitation for vulnerable and endangered species all over this planet.
Absolutely love this zoo. My favorite animal is the snow leopard and it never fails to always be asleep in the same spot every time I go. But I love it all the same. Plenty of things to do and fun attractions.
All the animals weren't out so that was disappointing but it had some cool animals out and about
Thought I was going for zoo fights, ends up I misread zoo lights...
The Hogle Zoo is very well maintained, cleanliness is great and the overall atmosphere is welcoming and so fun!! Great staff who are there to answer any questions and who interact with the animals and guests!! We really enjoyed feeding the Giraffes! Highly recommend! Thanks for a fun, memory filled day!
Consistently a positive experience for my girlfriend and I.
We love the zoo! My kids always have fun there. If you have more than one kid I highly recommend a membership so worth it!
Love this place. Love their work towards conservation. It's fun, family friendly, lots of personable staff to answer questions, lots of shade. The prices for food and souvenirs are pricey but that's not unexpected. Love the water play area too!
Amazing! Easy to maneuver, staff was Super knowledgeable and it was SOOOO clean. I even heard one staff member ask a couple to please put on their mask. Too bad people can't understand signs that show 6 feet, but that's not the zoo's fault. It was REALLY great!
Went on a Tuesday, and the experience was completely different than on a weekend. They've been updating a lot of the areas, and the kids had a good time.
My daughter begs to go here weekly. With the updated enclosures, the animals seem much happier. The zoo has improved greatly since my youth!
The last time I was there I was with my best friend from High School, and she was meowing at the tiger, well luckily she was behind the observatory glass case because it tried to get her with it's spray! It was so funny.
Not a great experience whatsoever. Called one day prior to make sure my emotional support animal that takes up one foot of space for a mental disorder would be able to accompany myself into the zoo and was Informed of course just make sure to bring your paperwork with you which I did so and when I get to the counter I m told they can t allow her in for mental concerns and needs to be physical... how can you make the decision on what s what s more important of a service to a human, or a service at all? And why would I travel 4 hours after being told she d be allowed into the zoo only to find out she wouldn t. Just believe that careless people are answering these phone calls. I am NOT this person to go parade around my issues with an establishment but this set me over the edge to have a careless supervisor just say a simple no
I work In the service industry and know just how people can be, and I understand limitations and rules but to decide on someone s mental or physical issues whether they are allowed an emotional support animal is beyond me, and should be beyond any employee at this zoo. I also completely understand the protection of their animals at the zoo that might not do well around dogs, then tell me which areas to avoid?
All in all, worst experience I ve ever had with an establishment.
We enjoyed our time here. Some of the spaces do seem a little inadequate for the animals housed there. Overall though, the zoo was clean and we got to hang out with some cool birds!
Great Lights and Fun! The Polar Bear was out and about it was Awesome!
The experience was good however I recognize that it is very overrated and expensive, when I was inside they want to charge you extra for feeding giraffes seriously (?) There are several shows that are interesting, the place is wide, there is much to see, but I feel it is not worth it.
The price is cheap, the garden design is warm, the environment is clean, there are many animal species and valuable. The space for each animal is relatively ample, allowing people to feel the garden s love for animals and sincerity for travelers.
Great fun for a family. Even better with older kids. :)
Our Covid-19 trip to the zoo was probably our best experience even though it was cold (December) You buy your tickets for a specific time and they limit the number of people in the zoo. We weren't fighting crowds to see the exhibits and it was easier to keep track of the kids.
If you've never seen the bird show, it's a definite must! Sitting in the amphitheater with flocks of birds flying overhead was a great experience.
It's a nice place, it is true that a lot exhibits are empty but there is still a lot to see. I have been to other zoos a lot bigger than the hogle zoo but I absolutely enjoyed this zoo as well.
Didn't have much fun it was boring the line to the small animal exhibit was really long. The most exciting thing I saw was an elephant taking a dump. Other than that the animals seemed depressed and where just laying down like me when I feel like a failure.
Great zoo! Much larger and nicer than expected for, well worth a visit. Lots of green, shade, nice exhibits, play areas for kids.
Zoo lights was so fun. We loved seeing the zoo in a different light and time of year!
We got here right when they opened and we got to see all of the animals and feed the giraffe! It is a clean place and the staff is friendly and helpful!
Great place to take the kids. Take a couple rides on the train and the carousel. Make sure you catch the bird show and check out the new Asian cats exhibit. Corporate events are fantastic here as well. You get a catered dinner, and the zoo to yourself in the evening as the animals are becoming really active.
Enjoyed the animals fun to watch. Great family outing
Love the play ground and the mist throughout the zoo
Mask policy are ridiculous. Expensive for lack of animals. We didn't see but a few animals. We got tickets to see baby gorilla, but could barely see because they have you as far away from thinck protection glass. I didnt understand why they kept saying that was for our protection. Is the glass wall not strong enough? Some staff were a bit snotty especially given we choose to go during high risk time slot because my niece has disabilities. They have a ton of updated to make to be a quality zoo. The train was only a couple mins long and does a small loop.
If you live in the area I would.really suggest helping the zoo to raise money to help make it more! The kids did seem to enjoy other then all the parents were yelling at shitlins not to touch anything.
Loved visiting the zoo as a kid, still love it as an adult. Plenty of nostalgic things (train ride, reptile house, lion drinking fountain), and plenty of new improvements too (bird show, Rocky Shores, Asian Highlands). Great place for all ages.
Nice day. Got there early enough to watch the animals get fed.
Hogle Zoo isn t a large zoo, but the the closeness of the exhibits and the range of cool animals makes its more of an enjoyable experience than the larger zoos. Figure out ways to go in groups or get discounts and plan to spend several hours there as individual tickets are relatively expensive.
Always has nice staff and animals look well taken care of
We actually had a blast here! They have a lot of cool animals here! Ones I would never expect to see in a zoo in Utah. Ever! Easy to spend hours here! We got to feed the giraffes which was very fun! But they were so strict! We bought one lettuce to feed the giraffe and they almost wouldn t let me in there to take a picture of my wife feeding it. And wouldn t let us split it to both fees the giraffe. We re paying you to do your job for you, let us feed them lettuce!
I love what they have done for all the animals but I will say take a cooler with you... Don't try to order ANYTHING from there.... We Waited 45 minutes for 5 ice cream cones and 1 pretzel... Very frustrating!!!
Pro Tips:
- Come before 11:00 for no lines
- Use Salt Lake Connect Pass for free entrance
Interesting Facts:
- Several of the oldest animals of their species lived here.
- Guided tours and train rides are available for families
Great place, my kids enjoyed the animals all being out side today and got wet at the playground. Next time I'll bring a swim suit
It's really nice so far! I'm about to try some of the food~!!
I've been going to the Hogle Zoo for 55 years! I was amazed how much it's changed for the better! Natural habitats for each species. I did miss the hippos, but the trip with my 2 year old granddaughter was amazing!
Should be a 5 star but the ticket booth was a disaster. You guys should go to kiosks and get away from grumpy cashiers!
We love Hogle zoo with all their new improvements, had family passes for years now.
Not bad. A few areas got congested because it bottlenecks, but that's to be expected it places like this. A few animals weren't there, or out, then go sickness or the chilly spring weather. Overall it was a fine experience.
The walk is very pleasant, the children have fun with all the animals,
Great to see the various animals and the various bugs that are on display.
We love the Zoo! We have a membership and because of the membership, we are able to enjoy the zoo all year round, and it makes the trip worth it for us.
However, the food is really pricey and not the portions are not worth the price you do pay, even with the 10% off membership discount.
So bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenery and the animals :)
Fun zoo, but for the price I didn't see as many animals as we would have liked. A bit of a let down for Salt Lake City, but still a good time.
Always have a great time at the zoo. The cooler months are always better for seeing more active animals but there is always plenty to see.
