Based on my personal experience, Unidine s values mirror the values of the Ritz CARLTON hotel company. This values are representation of good stewardship to their employees, residents, and clients alike. I love the commitments to fresh food and the never ending strive for excellence.
-executive chef, Unidine
Been a pleasure working for such a professional company.
Having Chef Experience as well as experience with caring for Seniors has made this an amazing job.
Representing Excellence for Unidine.
First, let me say thank you to you and the staff or the outstanding family picnic you have to us on Sunday. I can t remember the last time I had so much fun and such delicious food. Frank and Jay did such an unbelievable job, I don t know how they will surpass the party next year! And all the workers spread all around were so helpful and polite as usual! I was truly amazed.
Been with Unidne for a little over 9 months. I have never in my career have had more support and more fundamental grounding with any other company before. The values that they instill in the team (Communication, Commitment, Attention to Detail, Respect, Sense of Urgency and Effort) will stick with me as I move throughout my career. I was promoted within 6 months, and let me tell you, it was the best career choice I have ever made! I will remain Unidine Proud for a long time!
Attended a tradeshow in DC with all types of vendors. Unidine clearly stood out among the rest! Not only was the presentation spectacular, but the quality and flavor of the food was exceptional. The staff clearly takes a lot of pride in what they do and it really shows!
Honestly, a ZERO star rating is much more appropriate for rating this company as an employer. Unidine completely lacks ethical standards and avoids transparency in any communication, could almost be considered deceptive and entirely dishonest. Instead of progressing in terms of innovation and expecting employees to employ best practice within their appropriate job scope, the company prefers employee retention which ultimately leads to patient safety issues and compromised professionalism and ethics. The hiring of employees could be determined as a warm body filling a required position versus hiring employees to perform their actual job with 100% effort in order to meet standards and expectations. If on-site management/leadership provides guidelines and recommendations for best practice and policy compliance and their subordinates disagree or do not adhere to their manager s instructions and coaching, these employees can simply make verbal complaints to corporate leadership and will ultimately be instructed to completely disregard anything the on-site manager has coached their employees to implement. Overall, leadership (corporate) is absolutely clueless. Company/account decisions are based on assumptions from occasional on-site visits from corporate management (based out of Boston) without thorough and lengthy observations and investigations. Please adhere to the recommendation to avoid ever applying to or being employed by this company. In short, this company is unethical, unappreciative, greedy, and absent minded.
The food is often times inedible; always sparse in quanity. No more fresh produce and local sourcing. Everything comes in a can from GFS which is horrible for a low-sodium diet. They use powdered eggs unless an over-easy egg is ordered. There have been at least four different chefs in the 2 years they have had the contract at Clark. You can tell they are working on an extremely limited budget. Absolutely the worst management decision ever made at Clark.
I'm very excited to be a part of the Unidine family. After visiting a few of our company kitchens, it's evident that we practice what we preach. The staff is engaged. The food is cooked from scratch. The clients can't wait to give you great feedback.
Im a nurse so the diets of my patients is very important to me and to their overall recovery, Unidine is the first food service company to really understand the connection between fresh ingredients and healing of the body. Great company and great fresh food.
I have had the opportunity to work for Unidine the last three years, visited numerous locations and sampled some delectable culinary artistry! I have found the business approach to be one size fits one, where solutions are customized to meet the evolving needs of clients, communities and guests.
For over eighteen months, I have been working for a company that has allowed me to grow from within. The moment I was hired, I realized I was going to be working for a company who values their employees. I knew
that because I applied for a Sous Chef position, but was given a higher role as a Chef Manager. Currently, I am supporting a hospital and am very proud to say we produce nothing but fresh plates of food for our patients.
Unidine took over the food at my work cafe and the quality is so much better!! They have a real chef who makes all the soups and salad dressings from scratch! They also roast all their meats, nothing is frozen or coming out of a can!
Unidine took over our food service at our independent living community in Missouri about 4 mos ago. It has been a miserable experience. Not only are the food choices pitiful, the quality and consistency makes the most of there offerings inedible. The portions could be considered child size. Senior Communities that use this service should be ashamed for subjecting their residents to this service. We have all given up our homes to make this our final living arrangement, unfortunately financially we can't just pick up and move. We don't know whose more responsible, the community for hiring Unidine or Unidine itself for the product and service they are subjecting senior citizens to.
The nursing home I currently work at has adapted this company and I would like to say that that was the worst decision the administrators have ever made. They don't seem to have any knowledge of serving food in a nursing home. Their food is gross. Also, these elderly folks have NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE EATING. Their so called "Fresh Food" is tasteless, dry, and too complicated for these folks. Worst. Company. EVER.
So proud to work for this organization. Senior living residents are finally able to eat healthy and delicious food, that is freshly prepared. Great friendships have been formed here too with my coworkers. Highly recommend.
As a Dietitian, I was drawn to Unidine due to their fresh food always approach in all clinical and resident settings. The food has been absolutely delicious in all of the accounts I've visited thus far. And being able to work for the organization and their desire to train and grow their team members was just an added bonus. In 2 years I went from an hourly position, to a full time position in sales.
I work in the department of labor and eat lunch downstairs in the cafeteria who is through unidine. The manager Carla is always rude and speaks to the customers as well as staff in a demanding tone. I ve even heard her curse at her employees the food is ok but not worth the terrible service.
Overall, their service, utmost care, and professionalism is thoroughly impressive. From our leadership and employees to residents and guests,
we are thrilled with Unidine. They regularly ask for feedback and willingly incorporate new ideas to exceed expectations consistently. We think they are fine examples of team players and recommend them wholeheartedly. They are great partners for any organization seeking the ultimate dining experience in senior living.
Unidine is all about innovation across the continuum of care creating memorable experiences for seniors. It is amazing to be part of an organization that help people live and age healthier!
This company is obsessed with portraying itself as excellent, and that's the job of any well-marketed organization of course. No doubt many employees work hard and do great things. The problem, however, is with the executives and leadership. There is no excellence there, only brutal cost cutting tactics and obscuring the truth about their business model. Many of their managed locations operate in near sweatshop conditions. They are purveyors of human misery.
Their purchasing methods are unethical at best. Fresh produce is what they flash during the sales pitch but what about the protiens? Much if it is frozen, likely fresh to frozen because of impending expiration. And of course, the food cost includes a kickback straight to Unidine from the purveyor- which you'll never know about. This drastically limits variety and quality. It also inflates the plate cost. It's not actually cost of food, its cost of food plus Unidine kickback.
And always remember, if you're running a nonprofit, you are taxing all of your workers and residents/guests and opening a for profit whole in your business that doesnt adhere to the same guidelines.
Buyer beware with this company. Do your research! Google and contact me for a disclosure of what this company does before you sign a contract with them.
I am very disappointed in the service of this company. I don't believe they have ever served a nursing home before. Very hard to work with. They base what they serve on a computer program that is a very poor design.
The food served is inedible! It also causes digestive issues. The other day, the afternoon snack was a plate of cubed meat - that appeared to be peppered turkey and some sort of salami or fake ham. It was almost as if they noticed it about to expire and someone said "eh, let's give it to the old folks who have no advocates or ability to complain"! Nobody ate an afternoon snack that day! I hope when their contract runs out they will be replaced with a better food service provider.
Absolutely worst food service ever. The one in avon, oh at the Rose seinor living is a bad example for food service across the globe. I reccomend nobody works for this company. They treat employees bad, the chef thinks he runs the show and the boss is never there. Just bad from top to bottom, if your going there to work and go to school, don't expect the boss to works with your schedule, they have 20min meeting before lunch & dinner and the residents complain about not being served on time. Overall don't work for unidine. I've seen friends of mine speak out on issue's with the company and they have been fired, oh yes they do play favoritism. Don't work for this company mark my words!
In fact, all scores in the latest Press Ganey
report showed improvement from last
year a true testament to a high quality food
service program can positively impact patient
satisfaction scores. Unidine s impact on the
food quality
I recently had to move my mother into a memory care unit as she is struggling with dementia. She is also having difficulty swallowing and I was really nervous about how she would be cared for and what she would eat. I came to find out that Unidine does a puree program where they mold the puree food to look like actual meals, it made me cry it was so nice. This company is so thoughtful and really has made a difference in how my mothers care is handled.
I am proud to work for Unidine. The level of culinary expertise and quality of the food put out in all the communities I have visited has blown me away. Talking with chefs in all of our locations, there is an evident pride in the food they deliver directly related to our Fresh Food Pledge. The commitment to scratch cooking, ability to be innovative with menus, and desire to educate residents and guests through culinary theater is inspiring.
Just like all faceless corporations. They suck. Food is inedible.
This was served to Village North Retirement Community as a Baked Ziti. The noodles were elbow macaroni that were cooked to the consistency of mush. The sauce could have been nothing more than can diced tomatoes, what little there was of it. Also it would be nice to have had a garlic bread or even a bread stick, bur not offered. We were however offered french fries. This type of food is not at all what your website is advertising.
Terrible food, they waste SO much food because the patients aren t eating the slops they call a meal . I worked in the kitchen at the hosptial and the back breaking dedication you have to have is ridiculous and horrifying. There s not one moment to think, you are literally slapping food on plates as orders are shouted out to you. You re running around to gather food for special orders , etc. just horrifying! Not to mention the pay is a joke, NEVER again!
When thinking of a dining program I think of two specific area's: the quality of food and overall experience as the two most important factors. Unidine has a full commitment to scratch made cooking (even the soups and salad dressings are made from scratch) which makes my taste buds go wild and wanting more. They customize their onsite menus to fit the specific demographic profiles and requests of the onsite partner. The teams within Unidine have all been trained around the "Ritz Carlton" model and their internal program and employees within locations make the dining experience spectacular. If you're looking to partner with a Contract Food Management Company I would highly recommend Unidine as your "Best Overall Solution and Dining Services Partner"
Unidine is an excellent food service management company, with the freshest ingredients. Even their grab and go selections (salads, sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, cut fruit, etc.) are prepared in house. I particularly enjoy the in house roasted deli turkey! Most outsourced food management companies buy pre-cooked/pre-breaded products, but Unidine takes the extra time to prepare ingredients in house from scratch. Highly recommended!!!
This is the up most nastiest food I have ever seen why in the hell anyone would let residents eat this I would never feed this to my dog the Deserve no star at all the residents hate it even had one cover it and said I don t want it to dry out even more then it already is what a joke this company needs closed down
I was lucky enough to dine at their corporate location inside of New Balance's corporate headquarters in Boston. The lunch was OUTSTANDING! Clean environment, friendly staff members, and fresh food made to order. I had the turkey burger made in front of me with bacon, the greenest avocado and lettuce, and tomato on a brioche bun. Fantastic experience all around!
Great company to work for and wonderful view on food and freshness!!!!
What is the definition of leadership?
I have my meaning.
Leaders are those who mentor and lift up others. Leaders lift up others by leading by example. One of Unidine Values is give team members more responsibilities and empower them to grow. Another one is We make commitments we can live up to and do what we say we will. I joined Unidine 5 years ago. I joined because of its values that I strongly believe in. To this day I still believe in them and am a ambassador of Unidine. I will continue to live the Unidine Way. Those patches you see on the side of my Jacket are patches I strongly believe in and worked very hard to achieve. They say wear your heart on your sleeve. Well I do. Graduating from Johnson & Wales was a achievement in its self for me being from a neighborhood where Men like me don t make it out. American Culinary Federation a great Culinary organization to be apart of and finally Unidine a Great company to work for.

Dined at Frisbie hospital for a holiday brunch which was outstanding and very creatively set up. Recently went back to visit a patient and the food was just as great, very happy they were taking such good care of us!
Unidine has been a great company to work for. Their fresh food pledge gives our seniors more farm to table produce than any other senior living corporation I've ever worked for. Unidine respects their team members and gives them empowerment to grow
this company throws out more food then the average family eats in a year. Im sure the homeless shelters in the area or the local animal shelters would appreciate the leftovers
They throw away so much food every day instead of feed the staff and to me that's just ignorant.
Stay away from this company.Director of dining service useless and unprofessional with the worst attitude i ever seen.Understaffed always these guys do NOT have a clue to what they are doing.Consider this and stay away working from this horrible place to work.Plus they dont care about the costumers either. If I could put 0 STARS i would.
I never thought that I (or anyone) would ever write my compliments to the chef for hospital food. But I could not wait to send this most sincere thank you to everyone in the kitchen and dietary departments.
Working with Unidine for the past two years is unlike anything we ve experienced before. It s more than your average client/vendor relationship. It s a true partnership. As a mission-based organization, we provide seniors in need with the highest quality services. It is our goal to help them to live a full, active, inspired, and independent life. Unidine Lifestyles allows us to integrate that same level of quality into our dining program. From the onsite dining team to the regional management to their corporate support, everyone has made our success their priority. As we planned the expansion of our dining venues, Unidine played an integral role in the design. The renovations include a new bar and lounge where residents can socialize with friends and family and enjoy alfresco dining. By leveraging Unidine s extensive experience and knowledge, we are well-positioned to serve future generations of seniors and their families.
Exceptional company to work, and grow, provides you all tools need it for our success....planning to stay many years and keep growing to my next goal.
by the way I got the opportunity to meet the CEO Richard Schenkel in a chef and managers training and he knows all his clients and accounts and talks about them with entuiasm. I'M PROUD TO BE PART OF UNIDINE CORP.
No stars. I am an independent living resident of an upscale retirement facility Too bad can t give a negative rating. Absolutely the worst food I have ever been subjected too. Alway unappetizing in appearance. Frequently inedible. Certainly not fresh and prepared fro scratch. These people are liars. Their major concern is their bottom line. Their staff sports huge chiefs hats which they must buy on line because they can r Cook. They treat their employees terribly. Many of out best have left. The quality of the raw ingredients is poor. There are not enough negative adjectives to express my opinion. Avoid Unidine at all costs. They will make you sorry you ever heard of them
On a scale of five stars with five being great and excellent for Chefs or
Cafeteria Managers, Marcus Houston is 12 or 15 stars. He sets the
standard high for chefs and Cafeteria Managers.
Excellent food and customer service! My expectations were exceeded.
